Perilla LA serves a nice fresh lunch- the food tastes clean and almost homemade. The beautiful kimbap comes with a mustard sauce, which delivers a nice horseradish-y kick. The cod dosirak is a tasty meal set, with the deeply flavorful doenjang cod and assorted fresh banchan.

Inside is a very small entrance so be sure to come here when it's not too hot. They have a gorgeous space for you to eat outside, which is next to a bakery too! The variety of pickling with various vegetables and the oh-so pretty egg roll made this a well rounded meal I had fun while eating! You have to swing by here. Don't forget to get their yuzu soda!!

Delicious and healthy Korean food that gives off a home-cooked vibe! I visited this tucked away shop for brunch on a Saturday morning and my experience here was great! This small shop is hidden in a small plaza shared with a couple of other businesses. I got the Cod Dosirak and it was delicious! The cod was nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly. It was moist and soft. I also enjoyed the other components of the lunchbox such as the assorted banchan. They were all fresh and delicious. I liked the broccolini the best which wasn't overcooked and was crisp. I also liked the creamy potato salad which had crispy chunks of sweet apple. This lunchbox was $21 and on the smaller side, but I'd say it's worth it considering the ingredients and preparation. It seems like the dish was made using fresh whole foods, so it tasted healthy and refreshing. My friend also mentioned it was like eating food from a family's home which I agreed with. Ordering was pretty easy, you just go in the shop, select what you want, and they will bring it out to you. There's also a big variety of prepared banchan (Korean side dishes) to also take-home to-go. I also liked the outside seating area shared with other businesses. Many of the tables were shaded which was nice. There's also public bathrooms. For parking, it's street parking and I found parking quite easily since I went earlier. Overall, a great experience here and I would recommend to anyone looking for a well-rounded healthy option. This food makes you feel good.

    * The Gimbap was an amazing symphony of flavors that all worked well together - the mustard-like sauce they provide gave each piece a refreshing bite * The Garlic Eggplant was very savory with a ton of garlic - definitely lives up to its name * The Cod Dosirak was comprised of a ton of tasty components - a soft rolled egg with a hint of sweetness, a scoop of creamy potato salad, an array of pickled spicy vegetables, a generous amount of rice, and nicely charred and incredibly soft piece of cod * Overall, even though the shop is small, this cute spot offers a wide variety of delicious food that only elevates its already distinct charm

Came back to Perilla for a second time and had the dosirak cod again - delicious! No bones this time. The banchan was a perfect accompaniment. My friends and I ate behind Cassell's hamburgers in the courtyard. Another Bistro doesn't open til the eve. Bakers Bench (pastries) is adjacent to Cassell's. Cozy outdoor ambience with a fountain and arches. Pleasant area to sit, chill, eat and enjoy the outdoors. We'll be back!

Really Quaint location. Hidden inside a somewhat residential looking building space with different businesses that operate there. There is a small location with only seating outside. you order at the front. They have a wide array of banchan for sale. I went with the chicken doshirak. Plenty of banchan, fluffy rice and the chicken is skin on with a plump amount of meat that is marinated in a soy bean paste and grilled to perfection! wow! Very authentic and a refreshing place to visit.

The cod dosirak was delicious and the banchan that came with it! The house made cucumber yuzu soda was also so good! A bit pricey for the small portions but everything was so tasty, I would go get it again! There's outdoor seating. We went on a Saturday around 12:30pm and there were plenty of seats but I could tell it gets busier later in the afternoon.

I was just looking for a healthy lunch option and didn't think much when I stopped by, but Perilla completely blew me away. Ambiance: Small takeout spot with a simple setup, but the outdoor seating is really nice, with umbrellas for shade. Food: Incredible Korean food that instantly reminded me of home. I got the dosirak, and I loved everything. We also ordered a few extra banchan, and everything tasted fresh, balanced, and made with care. Maybe I'm biased because it reminded me of my mom's cooking, but she's an amazing cook, so I'd say that speaks for itself. You can also grab banchan to go, which is a huge plus if you want to stock up on quality sides for home.

Had such a great first experience at Perilla! My friends and I (3 of us) shared the gimbap, chicken dosirak, and cold soy garlic noodles. Everything was so fresh, flavorful, and absolutely hit the spot. The chicken was my personal favorite, perfectly seasoned and really balanced with the banchan. The owner and her team were so kind and welcoming, and it's clear they all truly love what they're doing. Rocco is so cool, too! It's a quaint spot and super close to the Los Feliz Flea, so you can totally make a whole day/afternoon out of it. Such a great find. Can't wait to come back!

Awesome place for banchan and other Korean snacks. The owner/chef started selling banchan from her home in Koreatown during the pandemic, and now she's opened her first brick 'n mortar place on the edge of Chinatown. It's a tiny place, room for only a few people to order their food. The items are all in to-go plastic containers. There are no indoor seats. You can eat in the patio in front of Perilla, which is shared by other good food spots in this complex (Bakers Bench and Cassell's Hamburgers for now). There are always several banchan to choose from unless they sell out. I've had some great sesame green beans, garlic eggplant, Meiji tofu with gochujang meat sauce, fermented cucumber & melon, and fermented cabbage with perilla leaf. The kimchi of napa cabbage is excellent. Perilla also usually offers a lunch box combo featuring chicken or fish, a banchan combo, and gimbap, among their non-banchan choices. The avocado with nentaiko rice and trout roe was delicious, as was the lunch box with marinated cod. The cold soy garlic noodles are great on a hot day. Their address is on Alpine St, but the actual entrance to Perilla and the patio is on Centennial St next to Heavy Water Coffee. It's around the corner from Eastside Italian Deli. It's usually not a problem to find street parking in the area although I try to avoid the main lunch rush at Eastside. The chef has been recognized by the LA Times and the James Beard Foundation for her excellence. It's an extraordinary place for banchan and other dishes.

Serving Korean homestyle dishes, Perilla LA is a cute cozy restaurant in a small plaza that has the best home cooked meals hands down. They have various Korean banchan and originally I was here for Umma's book launch, but this is such a hidden gem! Wish more people knew about this place from the quality, consistency, and love poured into each meal.

    Daniel T.

If you're not careful it's easy to miss this hidden gem tucked away -- literally, it's hidden behind another building on a super quiet street. This tiny shop gives very casual chic vibes with a small menu of items you can order and a selection of banchan that made my eyes light up. I picked up a few of their more unique banchan and so far am loving the mushroom bokkeum and garlic eggplant. Also got the cod dosirak that came with various banchan, white rice, and a cute gyeranmaki that ended up being one of the best lunches I've had in awhile. Prices are a bit on the higher side ($6 banchan life adds up fast), but the quality is excellent and we support small businesses in this house. Everything tasted clean, balanced, and homemade, I'll definitely be back!

A fun small Korean bistro/ cafe that focuses on banchan. The rest of the menu as well as the setting here is light and bright. Perfect for a light, healthy lunch. I came in and ordered the dosirak with cod. It was deliciously marinated cod served on perfectly steamed rice. This was also accompanied by some seasonal banchan. I ordered some additional banchan - the garlic eggplant to go along with my meal and some of their cucumber yuzu soda to wash everything down. Such a unique atmosphere. It feels like a few houses that were converted into restaurants that all kind of share the same courtyard. I would almost describe it as a culinary compound, lol. Also helps that the folks here were just so friendly. Definitely want to come back and try some of their other assorted and delicious looking banchan.

They're located in a very busy area of Koreatown, so street parking is very difficult to find. If you aren't finding any spot after circling around endlessly, just do valet parking, which was cheap and easy. The Spicy Seafood and Chicken Kalguksu were so good and comforting! Both soups were tasty and I was very satisfied with all the ingredients included in the Kalguksu. As a noodle lover, the noodles also hit the spot definitely hit the spot. The Spicy Seafood Kalguksu also wasn't terribly spicy, so I would definitely recommend it if you can indulge in some spice. We also ordered the Medium Bossam and that really completed the meal. The pork belly was very tender and delicious and is so good wrapped with the napa cabbage, radish kimchi, and garlic. There is also some dipping sauces for it. I definitely recommend also ordering the Bossam! Overall, I enjoyed everything we had here! The portions were perfect for our party of four and we were fully satisfied after our meal.

I love noodles, so I knew I wanted to get their kalguksu or sujebi which is basically hand-torn kalguksu in ripped piece form. I love that the sujebi came with kabocha, potato, and some green veg. You literally don't have to order anything else besides the dish. The kalguksu looks like it's shared and recommended with 2+ parties. This place was filled with families, duos, and larger groups, so I think it must be more of a place to share. I came for a later lunch on a Friday, and just like the yelp revs said it was full and busy but not completely packed. I didn't have to wait for a single small table for one. The service is fast and the staff are so friendly and attentive. I'm glad I finally dined here, but would def only come back with a larger group.

The ambiance was lovely and perfect for a date night. The dining room felt dark, intimate, and cozy, and I especially loved the little candle on the table. It was a small touch, but it made the experience feel warm and special. We ordered the perilla oil noodle, scallop pancake, pork jowl, and hwaechae milk to share. The perilla oil noodle had a strong perilla aroma which I loved, but beyond that it didn't really taste like much. It wasn't bad but it's probably the one dish I'd skip next time. The scallop pancake was great. It was crispy, packed with scallops, and the dipping sauce complemented it really well. The pork jowl was easily our favorite dish of the night. It was tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with all of the accompanying condiments. Every bite felt balanced and well thought out. The hwaechae milk was also delicious and refreshing. It was a fun drink to share and a nice contrast to the richer dishes. While the food was good overall, the portions felt pretty small for the price point. Everything tasted good but it was hard not to notice how quickly the dishes disappeared given what we paid. Maybe it was just the specific dishes we ordered but considering Danbi is on the Michelin Guide, I was expecting bolder and more memorable flavors. Korean cuisine is known for being vibrant and packed with flavor so I left feeling a little underwhelmed. Nothing we had was bad but aside from the pork jowl there wasn't a dish that really wowed me. To end the meal, the staff brought us a yuzu popsicle topped with a birthday candle, which ended up being my favorite part of the entire night. The popsicle was perfectly tangy, refreshing, and honestly more memorable than any of the dishes we ordered. It made the celebration feel thoughtful without being over the top. Overall, we had a great experience. The atmosphere was beautiful, the service was attentive, and it was a lovely place to celebrate a special occasion even though it was a bit overhyped given the small portions, high prices, and flavors that didn't quite live up to my expectations. I'd still come back to try the steak tartare, uni bibimbap, and the zabuton!

The wait staff is also usually pretty nice and are able to do a good job to describe the menu / what you're getting. Most likely, you're here to get the banchan $35 set - an amazing value for the amount of food you get. Noting that this set doesn't include meat which you can order on the side along with some other dishes. In fact, we regularly brought visitors here. They raved about how good the spare ribs were and even insisted that their last meal before LA should be at Ham Ji Park.  Here's my belated review of what I consider the best spare ribs in LA. From the moment the Korean-style spare ribs arrived at the table, it was clear this was a dish worth savoring. Each rib bore a beautifully charred exterior--deeply caramelized without a hint of bitterness--offering that irresistible smoky aroma the moment it was placed before us. The glaze was nothing short of spectacular. A perfect balance of sweet and spicy, it clung to the meat with a glossy sheen that promised flavor in every bite. There was just enough heat to make your taste buds sit up and pay attention, but it never overwhelmed the deeper, richer notes of the sweet components. But what truly set these ribs apart was the texture. Beneath the charred surface lay meat so tender it practically fell off the bone with the gentlest tug of a fork. Each bite was juicy and succulent, the result of careful cooking and a respect for quality ingredients. Ham Ji Park, you will be missed. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for the food.

If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.
