Yikes. I was suckered in by the gulab jamun flavour but this was such an absolutely disappoint. It tasted so bland and whatever was supposed to be gulab jamun was this nasty, almost cardboard-like jamun. I could not taste any of the sugar syrup or rose (the gulab part of the gulab jamun). Definitely overhyped and boring. Better off going to Wanderlust or an actual South Asian small business that makes good South Asian flavoured ice cream. read more

This place is absolutely delicious and every flavor they offered was so unique and yummy. Located at the every edge of the LAB, it can be a bit hard to find, but the interior is incredibly charming and has 3 tables you can stand at to eat and chat! I personally got the banana Turon crunch, and as someone who personally does not like banana flavored items, I absolutely loved this since it's had no artificial flavor and the banana puree throughout made it more reminiscent of an actual Turon treat. It also had jackfruit, which I loved and the Caramelized egg wrapper was a nice crunch throughout. Service can be a bit slow, since one worker and the lines can get pretty long depending on the time and day you go. The staff member was very nice. Located in the Lab, parking can be annoying, especially on the weekends. Really unique flavors. Some are coconut based, the coconut flavor really lingers. I tried the ube toffee, pistachio and the s'mores(coconut based). Ube was definitely my favorite out of the three. I prefer the ice cream over the coconut flavors, but they are still good. I love you Stella Jean's Ice Cream. Baklava cheesecake is a must try. SO good. Stella Jean's lets to sample all their flavors, and their cheesecake flavor is love at first bite. Just enough cheesy taste, but not too overpowering. But it's the little chunks mixed into the ice cream that gives it a creamy, sweet & salty flavor. Genius! Just for my ice cream alone, I give Stella Jean's five stars. The place itself is cute and modern, but rather small. Wish they had more seatings but we were still able to enjoy our sweet treats. I love the ice cream flavors at Stella Jean because they're unique and not overly sweet. I usually expect something like s'mores-style flavors to be sickeningly sweet because of marshmallows, but that wasn't the case. We got a cup of the Ube + Pandesal Toffee and the S'mores. I noticed the texture was really interesting, almost like mochi or a springy marshmallow. It also didn't melt quickly. Mine barely started melting when I had about 15% left, which is impressive. This spot was my daughter and her friends choice for dessert. I am not lactose friendly but I make do with my dairy pills, but ice cream is typically something I do not gamble with even with a boat of pills. It hurts, and not in a good way lol. Small little spot with one or two high tops for standing around. It's in the Lab so there is sitting close by. I ended up getting a kids double scoop: one was mango sticky rice (oh my!). The mango flavor was spot on and the sticky rice had a coconut flavor that was so rich and so creamy and almost like not sweet, but it balanced out the mango incredibly! I was blown away. I also got their version of a mint chocolate chip (I am realizing my picture of the menu only included pints, so I cannot remember the exact name of this ), but the mint was super pepperminty and balanced perfectly with the small bits of chocolate. Other scoops pictured: Ube Pandesal Toffee/ Baklava Cheesecake, Double Chocolate in a cone, and Milk & Cookies in a cone. Everyone was very happy. Would be a cute date spot. I ordered a single scoop of the Mango Sticky Rice and I was a good amount of ice cream. It tastes exactly like the dessert meal, but it was just a bit too much of mango for my taste. Ugh, I want to like this place so bad but the flavors just don't do it for me. I've tried Stella Jean's a while back at the other Costa Mesa location, but it just didn't impress me. I got lured back here after seeing their new seasonal flavors (particularly the guava cream cheese) and decided to give it another chance. The girl helping us was very sweet and patient, allowing us to sample several of their flavors: Guava cream cheese: I was SO looking forward to this flavor (I am a guava fanatic) but it barely had any guava flavor at all! I was thinking maybe it was just the sample I got, but after peering into the tub of ice cream, it definitely looked like it was 90% cream cheese and 10% guava, lol. I had high expectations for this flavor, but was left sorely disappointed :( Yuzu + poppyseed cake: I love yuzu, but this flavor was just too sweet for me personally. If the yuzu was actually tartier, it would've balanced out this flavor much better, in my opinion Strawberry oat crumble: I love strawberry ice cream and this one had such a nice, light, natural strawberry flavor. Perfect for a hot summer's day or after a heavy meal :) Ube + pandesal toffee: This flavor was actually pretty good, and very ube forward Mango sticky rice: I remember being disappointed when I initially tried this flavor at Stella Jean's, but actually, it was much better than I remembered. There's a good balance between the mango and coconut, and overall, it is super refreshing. However, I do still think Wanderlust Creamery's version is slightly better While the flavors aren't to my tastes, I do think the ice cream here is really high quality and I do appreciate their unique flavor offerings. The inside of the store is pretty small, with 3 standing tables to the side if you decide to dine-in. However, this place is at The LAB in Costa Mesa, so do prepare yourself for the atrocious parking situation. Stella Jean has yummy vegan options. Mango Sticky Rice & Strawberry Oat Crumble seem to be their 'always on the menu' vegan options, but they also always have a seasonal vegan flavor too. I was so bummed to miss the Pistachio Pandan Halloween special, so hopefully another Pandan flavor arrives soon. There isn't seating inside Stella Jean but there is plenty of seating at the LAB. I am so glad that Stella jeans came to Orange County! I first tried it in San Diego and their vegan flavors are amazing. My favorite flavor is thankfully available year-round -- the strawberry oat crumble which is vegan and gluten-free. It is packed with flavor and I love the textures throughout. They also have two additional nondairy flavors that rotate seasonally. On my most recent visit, the flavors were maple banana bread and apple butter + crumble. Wow! Wow! WOW! What a great Valentines Day and its all thanks to the two guys working the counter at Stella jeans tonight. We got there around 7pm and the place was ABSOLUTELY PACKED with a line out the door and chaos everywhere. But the moment I got to the counter I was greeted by such a sweet and calm tall guy with curly brown hair who was super friendly and more than happy to let me try anything I wanted. He was so patient and was laughing and joking and just had a great energy. His co-worker was flying around, talking and laughing with guests too even though they were SO BUSY. And to top it all off the ice cream was to die for! I didn't mind the wait at all the moment I got my first sample cause it was so good.
