Stella Jean's is such a find, especially if you or someone you are with is gluten free. My partner is gluten free and when she realized they had gluten free waffle cones she was so excited. She told me she didn't think she'd ever be able to have a waffle cone again. That alone made this place worth the visit. We both got split scoops. I went with cookies and cream and brown butter pecan. She got brown butter pecan and strawberry oat crumble. The brown butter pecan was the clear winner for both of us, absolutely delicious. The strawberry oat crumble was a hit for her though I personally found the strawberry flavor a little too punchy for my taste, but I'm just not a fruit in my dessert person so take that with a grain of salt. I also sampled the s'mores but the chewy marshmallow texture in ice cream isn't really my thing. The girl working was doing it all on her own, scooping and ringing people up, and she was incredibly attentive the whole time. Great work ethic. Not sure if I should admit this or not but I had never heard of Stella Jean's Ice Cream before last night so when my group of friends wanted to go after dinner I thought why not? We walked from a local brewery and were told we were lucky to walk into the ice cream shop with only 3 customers ahead of us. Sure enough, right after our group arrived and then for a solid 30+ minutes after, there was a steady line out the door! The flavors were some of the most unique I had experienced based on included ingredients, like caramelized egg roll wrappers. The best deal seemed to be the "Split Scoop". You'd think it would be the same size as a single scoop but just in two flavors but not at Stella Jean's! It's almost a double scoop and for less than a dollar more. I didn't know that until my friend after me ordered. I was disappointed at first but my ice cream flavor, Strawberry Oat Crumble, was quite sweet so I don't think I could have eaten more than my single scoop so I am happy I stuck with that decision! Located at the every edge of the LAB, it can be a bit hard to find, but the interior is incredibly charming and has 3 tables you can stand at to eat and chat! I personally got the banana Turon crunch, and as someone who personally does not like banana flavored items, I absolutely loved this since it's had no artificial flavor and the banana puree throughout made it more reminiscent of an actual Turon treat. It also had jackfruit, which I loved and the Caramelized egg wrapper was a nice crunch throughout. I saw an AD on instagram about mango sticky rice ice cream that happened to be vegan... and I couldn't be more excited! Luckily found a parking spot in their parking lot behind the ice cream shop. The staff were very kind and welcoming. They let us sample any flavor we wanted to which was great! The shop was clean and bright. I am kind of sad they ran out of earl Grey pistachio pie, but I ended up getting the mango sticky rice and ube + pandesal toffee and honestly, they were so good! I love you Stella Jean's Ice Cream. Baklava cheesecake is a must try. SO good. Stella Jean's lets to sample all their flavors, and their cheesecake flavor is love at first bite. Just enough cheesy taste, but not too overpowering. But it's the little chunks mixed into the ice cream that gives it a creamy, sweet & salty flavor. Genius! The mango flavor was spot on and the sticky rice had a coconut flavor that was so rich and so creamy and almost like not sweet, but it balanced out the mango incredibly! I was blown away. I also got their version of a mint chocolate chip (I am realizing my picture of the menu only included pints, so I cannot remember the exact name of this ), but the mint was super pepperminty and balanced perfectly with the small bits of chocolate. I was thinking maybe it was just the sample I got, but after peering into the tub of ice cream, it definitely looked like it was 90% cream cheese and 10% guava, lol. I had high expectations for this flavor, but was left sorely disappointed :( Yuzu + poppyseed cake: I love yuzu, but this flavor was just too sweet for me personally. If the yuzu was actually tartier, it would've balanced out this flavor much better, in my opinion Strawberry oat crumble: I love strawberry ice cream and this one had such a nice, light, natural strawberry flavor. Perfect for a hot summer's day or after a heavy meal :) Ube + pandesal toffee: This flavor was actually pretty good, and very ube forward Mango sticky rice: I remember being disappointed when I initially tried this flavor at Stella Jean's, but actually, it was much better than I remembered. There's a good balance between the mango and coconut, and overall, it is super refreshing. However, I do still think Wanderlust Creamery's version is slightly better While the flavors aren't to my tastes, I do think the ice cream here is really high quality and I do appreciate their unique flavor offerings. The inside of the store is pretty small, with 3 standing tables to the side if you decide to dine-in. However, this place is at The LAB in Costa Mesa, so do prepare yourself for the atrocious parking situation.
