This place came highly recommended by a few people I know who live in the area. I love going out for breakfast--it's my favorite meal. I was really looking forward to eating here after hearing such amazing things about their breakfast. The ambiance was fine. It's outdated, which I usually find kinda charming, but here it was dark and a little stuffy. There was a really great view of the pond from where we were sitting though, which was quite cool. Decor aside, it was the food that was so disappointing. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, my all time favorite dish, and what I received did not look appetizing at all. There was a glob of home fries on one side and a glob of poaches eggs on the other. The eggs looked more like eggs over easy, then poached (the white part was really spread out, and not wrapped around the egg yoke). Not to mention that one of the eggs had already popped and the yoke was running before it even got to the table. The English muffins the eggs rested on were cold and chewy. The hollandaise sauce was alright. The home fries were cold and on the generic side. I usually love going to places like these because usually they have the most fantastic breakfast foods. I've stopped in a few times for breakfast when I've been in the area, mainly because I know there will never be a wait (poor reason to eat anywhere, I know). I've had the pancakes which are ok when they're cooked thoroughly, the waffles are hockey pucks, the home fries are half edible (50% ok 50% charred pebble), and this last time I got an omelet which came served in a puddle of undercooked egg and butter. But I didn't expect great food, so whatever. This review was inspired by the rudeness and inattentiveness of the hosts/waitstaff. I arrived with my family and was seated quickly. Great! The waitress got our drinks. Great! She took our order. Great! She disappeared in the mostly empty restaurant, and about 15 minutes later someone else brought our food...ok? My coffee was empty... My wife's coffee was empty... No waitress... No waitress... Look! There she is! Make eye contact...signal...she looks at us...and she disappears. What? Will she reappear? Eventually, but much later. Eventually I give up on the waitress and ask the two (why two?) hostesses if we can get more coffee. They are visibly irritated by this customer's interruption of their conversation and seemingly make no effort to hide that. But they acknowledge my request and a scant five minutes later a waitress who is not our waitress brings more coffee. Yay! I think that waiting tables is probably difficult. You've got to put in a smile and pretend to care, but everybody has a bad day and sometimes you just can't fake it, and that's cool. Nobody should expect servers to always be fluffy clouds backlit with warm glowing sunshine, but everybody should be able to expect a basic level of courtesy and attentiveness. I just paid $25 for the advertised N.E. Lobster roll. It was absolutely pathetic. Anyone seen grey lobster? I did. Covid or not if you've lost that much enthusiasm for putting out a decent product close it , sell it , burn it but don' t embarrass yourself. I have been here 6 or 7 times for dinner at about 7 and while the service has always been slow and the dining room empty, the food was always good. I have almost always gotten the supreme chicken as I love their supreme sauce. However my latest visit is my last. I ordered the supreme chicken as I usually do and my wife had a cheeseburger. The cheeseburger was pretty good per my wife, but she had really just ordered something to pick at as the reason we were eating out was mostly about me being hungry and that we had just picked up our Christmas tree and wanted to have a nice quiet dinner out. My supreme chicken was inedibly salty, as were my mashed potatoes. Also the fat in the sauce had separated out. What should have been a nice creamy sauce was chunky and pocked. When I brought this to the attention of the waitress she said that someone had sent something back last Wednesday for being too salty, so it must be someone in the kitchen. Happy to see that apparently sending food back is normal for Wednesdays. So normal that an apology was not in order. Well I assume this of course, as no apology or anything resembling it were on offer. Sure the offending chicken was comped but as it was the reason we were there the burger felt like a tax. It was only ordered because we chose to go to this restaurant for the chicken supreme. Maybe your experience will be better, but were I you I would not risk it. We have enjoyed Stephen Anthonys Restaurant many times now with my family. We always have a good time there and it's always relaxed and casual. My go to is the corkscrew pasta with ham and Alfredo, it's prepared fresh and very delicious! When I'm not there with my family i usually order to go and have really come to enjoy the common sandwich, what makes this sandwich is the excellent bacon and perfectly cooked and seasoned home fries! read more

Great place, increasingly subpar service. Nobody says "hello" to welcome you (even though multiple staff are milking around the entrance). Then, waiting 10 mins to place order. If I could give 0 stars I would. Our food came out after an hour and a half of waiting at our table for breakfast food that takes less than 10 minutes to make. When the food did come out there were wrong orders and it was so cold also the eggs were under cooked. One meal took significantly longer than the others to come out and came out with 3 + hairs in the meal. They thought it was so thoughtful to take off the meal that came out with multiple hairs on it as it should've been a given they were not going to pay for that meal. We love the breakfast food here! In addition to their regular menus the specials are incredibly creative and their homemade sausages are yummy! My fave is definitely the sausage sampler: eggs, 3 different sausages, home fries and toast. The staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is nice, it's located right next to a pond that has lots of ducks, geese and swans. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is due to the fact that more often than not the food tends to take quite a while to arrive once you've ordered. read more

Went back for Mother's Day breakfast. I ordered the waffles with apple crisp, not realizing that this meant an actual slice of apple crisp on top! OMG. Had to say a few Our Fathers and Hail Marys afterwards, but the light, crisp waffle with the warm delicious dessert on top was worth it! My boy gobbled down a slice of french toast, bacon, some sausage and his fruit cup, barely looking up from his plate until it was empty. Nice. Service was good despite the massive holiday crowd. Wow. What an interesting place. The drive there was worth it and it was a beautiful fall day. Very kid friendly. Very good food. The girls had pancakes and mini waffles which they gobbled up. I had the apple crisp waffle that was very tasty (loved the apple, but the topping wasn't crunchy like I'm used to). My husband had the venison and sausage. Never having tasted it before, he was happy with it (though the onions weren't really 'carmelized'. They also offer homemade sausage that seemed interesting. We'll have to try it next time. The prices were very affordable. Coffee was OK. A plus was that afterwards, we walked to the gazebo and watched the geese, swans and ducks swim around the pond. This was my second trip to this restaurant both have been for breakfast. I got the Sausage Sampler breakfast on this trip. Stephen Anthony's makes their own sausage and they have three varieties.Tomato Basil, Turkey, and Maple. All were pretty good although the maple is the best with breakfast. When you wake up on a Saturday/Sunday morning and just want good food without the headache of fine dining, this is the place to be. Stephen Anthony's makes solid breakfast (only been there for it) at a good price point. From their Western Omelet to Steak and Eggs, the meal is very good. Portion sizes are definitely brunch worthy, and most options come with toast and homefries. Given that the meal options come in at about $9-13/head, the prices are not bad at all. The quality of food is very good too. They have homemade maple sausage that is solid. The food is not very greasy, and the kitchen cranks out at a pretty good clip. Situated on the Marlborough/Framingham boarder, it pulls in a very good crowd on the weekends but waits never are longer than 20 minutes. Definitely the best breakfast option in the area. read more

This place has sentimental memories for since since my future husband and I had our first day here 3.5 years ago. Simce then we go for anniversary dinners and the occasional weekend breakfast. We found the food always good. Since COVID we have bee here a lot more. I am a firm believer in 3 strikes your out. The last visit a couple weeks ago the food was so bad. We even said what's going on. The steak tips ordered medium rare we well done. We didn't even eat them. They never delivered our bacon and the over easy eggs were over hard. We said the last time is wasn't good either. We gave them another chance today and other than the coffee I was left wanting. The hollandaise sauce is always broken and not creamy. The poached eggs were over done, the biscuit was not grilled and had no flavor. We have agreed to keep the nice memories but if your looking for a good breakfast maybe try somewhere else. read more

One of my favorite movies growing up was Back to the Future. Unfortunately, I do not have a quirky Doc that I am friends with nor do I own a DeLorean but Stephen Anthony's is a nice alternative. The place seems like a relic of a bygone era with its walls adorned with historical advertisements, pictures, and newspapers. It really feels like the folks on Rte. 20 could have just as easily have dined here over an open hearth 100 years ago. It's homey and cozy - so if that's ideal for you, you will appreciate the restaurant. Urban and hip it is not. I have only been here for brunch but the menu is large, the specials are always delicious and mouth watering, and the price is right. I've had various entrees here over the last year or so from stuffed french toast (excellent) to hash and eggs (also good). We've has the occasional blip of subpar food but overall you know what you're going to get. A definite step above the chain restaurants like IHOP or dare I even usher the name Denny's. I suggest trying some of the specials or the Johnny Cakes - which aren't available everywhere but are quintessential New England. Prices are more than reasonable. Also - get there early or be prepared to wait (Brunch). read more

We love this place so much. I have been hesitant to rave about them, because I love that you can call on a Friday night for take out and only have a 25 minute wait versus over an hour at other places.... But with the recent closing of Halfway and Acapulco's on route 20 I have to give them a shout out. We order here at least once a month for take out dinner. Always a short wait, always delicious. Staff are friendly, order is always right. So many yummy menu items for everyone. My kids love the maple chicken wings. We love fried scallop roll, French onion soup, clam chowder, Johnny cakes, filet with crab cake... pretty much everything is awesome. I know this place is super busy for breakfast/brunch (which is also amazing- maple sausage is to die for and you can get it to go frozen to cook at home!!! Also the hash browns, mmmmmm!). They just don't get enough credit for their dinner menu. Also the owner is almost always there to answer questions or check in which is nice...although I have never had a complaint. Stopped by because my daughters friend got a job here. The view is pretty if you able to get a seat by the windows. The breakfast we had was nothing special, just your average breakfast food. I visit Stephen Anthony's on multiple occasions. The waiter / waitress service is great, but I feel their manager(s) are making them rush their customers through their meal to get more people in the door. The worst days to go for breakfast are Sunday's. The wait at the door is unbearable. The estimated wait time at the door was 10 to 15 minutes when in reality my family and I waited 40 minutes. It seems that people that arrived after me were sat before me which I didn't understand. The manager, who I believe is Anthony (given the name of the restaurant), is ALWAYS poorly dressed. You'd think he rolled out of bed, rolled through the mud, and came to work. On Sunday's in particular, it seems they bring in more tables than the facility can actually accommodate. Just a week ago, I went and they had some atrocious wall put up in the middle of the restaurant that you'd may think they had cubicles setup on the other side. Not only did it ruin the atmosphere but you also could not see the windows making it feel very dismal. This leads me to my next complaint that I was under the impression that you could not make reservations on the weekends. When asking our wait staff about this fabulous wall, they mentioned that it was for a party that would be showing up later. It seems sometimes when we go (mostly weekends) our food comes out right away in probably under 10 minutes. However, other times we've had to wait for over 40 minutes for our food. We have yet to complain because we understand they are busy, but being that most breakfast orders are very quickly made that waiting over 30 minutes is absolutely unacceptable to any restaurant. The only time I expect this wait is when I'm visiting a 7 course meal restaurant. Not a hole in the wall breakfast place. Overall, the wait staff is always happy and fantastic, the "chefs" could use a lesson in getting orders to eagerly waiting customers, and the manager(s) need to dress the part. read more

Had a 32 dollar filet and lobster. The filet mignon was flat terrible grade and a disappointment. The lobster stuffing was cold. My favorite meals is breakfast. Eggs benedict is my favorite meal for breakfast. Here's my experience ordering and eating said meal at this restaurant. I arrived with my husband and put our name in. They took two groups of the same size who put their name in after us. When we were seated, no one came by even to offer us coffee or water. Once we flagged down a waitress we had some service - our waitress was very nice and apologetic she had forgotten us. Our food came out relatively quickly but we both were disappointed in our meals. I used to really enjoy this place, especially on a saturday or sunday morning. However, the last few times I came to grab some brunch I began to dislike the place more and more. I came with my friend a few weeks back and we both decided to order outside of the box and get an omelette stuffew with pulled pork, something I had never seen on a menu before. The pulled pork was actually good and even though it was weird to have in an omelette I enjoyed it. However, the egg itself was pretty bad and the service was highly lacking. Was there yesterday mid day for late lunch. Only two other customers there. Waitress was impartial to us, service slow, food mediocre (was told no bread for mussel dish ordered). The clincher was a mouse running around 10 feet from my table. Pointed this out to the waitress, she stated that "it was that time of year". No manager came over to speak with me. Needless to say my appetite was ruined. Mice freak me out, espeyin a good establishment! Might try again for breakfast, but doubt it. Staff was slow, uncaring, and definitely not busy attending to their customers, busy gossiping in kitchen. Oh yeas, it was turnover time of day for staff, so waitress did not know specials (soup of day) etc. Bill high for mediocre quality. Can have nicer meal and service elsewhere for less $. read more

First time here as it was recommended, however I probably would not recommend it. I ordered a pepper and onion omelette with white toast. It came with wheat - no biggie I'll just ask for the white toast I had asked for. That didn't bother me. The toast was nice and toasted but zero butter came on the side or on it so I asked for a side of butter. The butter given to me was interesting consistency with little flavor. I could probably overlook that too but my omelette is where it sealed the deal for me. There was barely any, and I mean ANY cheese inside the omelette. Extremely bland. Not hot either, cool. The egg, peppers and onions had no flavor especially with out cheese. I found a hair on the side of the plate so, not sure where it came from. My friend got brought the wrong order, but that also was not our servers fault because someone ran it for them. The home fries are the only thing I can definitely say were rather good. It's interesting, reading most of the other reviews, it seems that Stephen Anthony's is a favorite breakfast joint--hadn't been aware of that! We've been twice now, both times for an early dinner. We were all very impressed with the food at both visits. On our first visit, we ordered the calamari appetizer, and it was exquisitely cooked -- so crisp and light and tender! We tend to use calamari as a quality check for "is this a good restaurant?" so it was a promising start! Dinners are served with a free bread basket and whipped butter. The rolls are definitely homemade, really crisp on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. For the actual entree, I've had both the salmon with rice pilaf, and a plain old cheeseburger (they let you substitute other sides instead of fries no charge -- woot!). Both were great! Salmon was nice and juicy, the burger likewise. My husband raved about his maple-sausage stuffed chicken and seriously grieved when he accidentally dropped his leftover box on the way up the steps when we got home -- no awesome lunch for him the next day. :( Oh, that's the other thing I should mention, their portions are quite sizeable! So overall, I recommend them for the homey kid-friendly atmosphere and good food. All you breakfast people, try visiting for dinner sometime...and maybe we'll have to visit sometime for breakfast to see what that's all about! read more

Best thing: Homefries. They were crunchy and tasty. I didn't like tiny cups for the coffee. I need a lot of coffee to get me going on Clock Change Day. The maple sausages were pretty yummy, but I can get better. But if you go, do try them. If you order them as a side, be warned that you get two, and that's pretty much a meal, right there. The hostess is too young and very inefficient and slow, the table clearers our old Mexican ladies who are also very slow, I'm talking four minutes to set up a table for two people. The waitstaff and cooks are OK. The food is basic, uninspired, and my order was not quite correct, but certainly edible. Sad fact is they are probably the second or third best in town.
