Tried this new restaurant recently and had a bit of a mixed experience. We were seated outside and unfortunately it took about 30 minutes before we were greeted or had any real service. Someone did drop off waters shortly after we sat down, but that was the only interaction for awhile. I actually had to walk back to the hostess stand to ask if someone would be coming to take care of our table, which already set a bit of a disappointing tone for the evening. Once things got going, we ordered our food, but our appetizers arrived before our drinks, which felt a little off in terms of timing and flow. Service overall didn't feel very attentive throughout the meal. That said, the food itself was actually good, flavorful and well-prepared. Overall, I wanted to like it more than I did. I'm still trying to put my finger on why Stereo41 felt so disorienting. The best way I can describe it is that it felt like a ChatGPT-generated restaurant brought to life. Visually polished, technically competent, but lacking soul. The positives first: - Beautiful space. I was immediately drawn in by the modern wooden door and high ceilings. The interior is spacious and well-suited for large groups. - Solid food execution. The lamb kabob was tender, and the trout sashimi tasted fresh. - Warm service. Staff was friendly and attentive. ---------- The less good: - Lack of focus. Stereo41 touts itself as "Japanese-Mediterranean fusion," but the menu feels scattered, jumping from sashimi starters to kabobs and mezze platters with no attempt to bridge the gap. The only dish that leaned "fusion" was the barramundi with Japanese curry and squash, but both the flavor and presentation lacked "wow" factor. The mushroom skewers (button mushrooms and scallions brushed with soy and sugar) were particularly underwhelming and felt like something I could easily make at home. The hummus tasted like 90% tahini with the dreams of a chickpea in the midst. - Cocktails that overpromise. The basil-lemongrass drink unfortunately tasted more like Theraflu than a balanced cocktail. - An identity crisis. The art was neither Japanese nor Mediterranean, a glittery disco ball hung from the ceiling, and there was a DJ spinning sets throughout the night. Is this a restaurant? A lounge? A club? Ultimately, the experience felt jarring -- not because anything was outright bad, but because the food, art, music, ambiance, and concept never quite came together. It reminded me of Ciaorigato in SF (another Japanese-fusion spot, this time with Italian cuisine), which raises the same question: are we going to da club or a restaurant? We have walked by seeing it get built since the beginning and tonight we are finally inside. Nice spot. It's amazing what you can do with an old PG&E building. I think back then if there was a bar on the premise more people would come in to pay their bill. I know I would and I don't even live here. We were the first to sit at the bar today but soon the bar was packed out. People stared coming in and filling tables. It does get full as the night goes on. For drinks my partner had the Sassanid Smash and a Stereo Martini. As a 1 trick pony I stayed with tried and true tequila and lime. For food we had the  Hamachi tostada, a dozen oysters and trout sashimi. All excellent. The Hamachi tostada was incredible. Two corn tortillas, umami mayo, chile and avocado. I think there was some kind of special secret sauce also cause I could eat that all day an night. Massive amount of Hamachi also. Nice artwork all around by one of the owners. Multiple turn tables in a permanent DJ set up playing vinyl. Sound was not overpowering so you could still have a conversation. There's an outside patio with heat lamps but tonight at 44 degrees, I don't think so. All was great but the clientle at the bar was a mix of very self important individuals ranging from espousing the ingredients for the very first martini to people talking about exotic recipes they were cooking and a few fine people making sure everyone overheard their nonsense. I initially was going with a 5 but after thinking about it going with a 4. Here's what needs to be fixed. 1. The menu is great, just not enough of a menu. We didn't try any of the bowls but nothing really here for a solid dinner. 2. Yelp description is Middle Eastern, lounges, Japanese. Great but no lounges. Pre opening buzz sounded like an awesome night life experience and I think even bringing a little bit of Vegas to the DubC, instead we have a very nice bar and seating at your mama's diner. Some booths along the wall. So I think keep some tables but transform the the area just past the check-in area with some low continuous couches and low cocktail tables. And dim the lights. This would be perfect with the DJ booth right there. I will go back for the Hamachi Tostada. read more

As soon as I walked in I knew I was going to love this place. We were a party of six. The service was welcoming with a beautiful smile on each employee who worked there. The owner was so attentive and definitely added to our enjoyable experience. Now let me get started with the food. OMG what a surprising, delicious and outstanding flavors in every dish. I ate there once i expected better for their steep prices! The food was decent but not great! I did like the tempura sweet potatoes fries appetizer with hirassa dressing. When I ate there I got a lot more then when I came a month later & ordered tempura sweet potatoes to go with tax came to over $20 & all i got was 7, you read it right 7 measly pieces, WTH!!! The rent is so high you need to skimp & price gauge on your customers, what a shame!!! Went on a Thursday night it was pretty busy the service was okay. The food was very very good definitely worth the wait. Hamachi tostada was out of this world. Bastilla was very unique it was both sweet and savory more on the savory side. Not a big fan of lamb but the Bastilla was bomb. Kabab was pretty straight forward very flavorful. Very disappointed. Tiny portions for outrageous prices--the "sharing" chicken for 3-4 people costs $150. Yes, a chicken dish for $150!!!! Cocktails were overpriced and served in tiny glasses. Staff was unfriendly. My boyfriend was offered a single large ice cube with his whiskey on the rocks; they brought regular cubes but still charged us $1 extra for the "big cube." Came for lunch and really enjoyed the service and superbly tasty food - very different to anywhere else in town. All the ingredients were fresh and vibrant and the tastes really complemented each other. The menu has a simple bowl / salad / wrap combination and while we had salad and bowl, the wraps on the next table looked amazing. Ambiance was good and clearly a DJ vibe but it was quiet at lunchtime, which was a shame - I'd love to see it busier, especially as they have a great side patio. Only taking a star off because it did take a long time to get the food out. We weren't in a hurry, but still felt long. Also there was just a little too much dressing in the salad, which can easily be fixed. Looking forward to going back. read more

The waitress comes with out dessert to go. What the heck? We were eating as fast as you were servimg. So so ridiculous for an expensive meal. The flavor profile of the menu is uniquely vibrant, a modern middle eastern feast that doesn't make you feel too heavy. The music was cool and the perfect backdrop for this dining experience, I definitely shazamed a few tracks. We came for Mother's Day Brunch. The brunch menu is pretty limited. The service was great, but the food took a while once we ordered. I enjoyed the cold brew/coffee bar they had going. I am deeply disappointed by the service--or lack thereof--I received at Stereo41. While I had a confirmed reservation, the experience at the host stand was insulting and felt pointedly discriminatory. Upon arrival, I informed the host that I had a reservation but my friend was running a few minutes late. Rather than being greeted professionally, I was met with suspicion. The host acted shifty and told me I was not allowed to be seated until my entire party arrived. I wasn't even offered a glass of water while I waited. The most upsetting part was what happened next: Double Standards: A group arrived shortly after me, also with an incomplete party. The host was incredibly polite to them and sat them immediately. Lack of Consistency: Other guests without reservations were allowed to walk around the interior freely, yet I was treated as if I didn't belong there. It is rare that I feel so clearly profiled and unwelcome in a place of business. To be treated as "suspicious" for simply showing up for a reservation is inexcusable. If the "full party" rule only applies to certain people and not others, it isn't a rule--it's a choice. read more

Took the wife here last night, had heard some good things, and we wanted to celebrate our Anniversary. Here's how it unfolded: 1) Res at 6:45, arrived 6:45, and seated immediately 2) Table was a 2 top, right next to the bar stools in front of the bar. Table was extremely unbalanced, which I knew would be a problem once we started dining 3) I've worked in restaurants for years, and balancing tables is a necessity which no one front of house here seemed to understand or be able to do.... so please stop putting soft napkins under one side of the table. Not how it is done Asked the bartender for a box of matches which is pretty go-to for these situations... which they had none. 4) 15 min goes by, no help from the front to move tables, no one trying to fix table situation. I leave the restaurant phone in hand trying to get a res elsewhere 5) At 7:05 wife comes outside and says they are moving us to a booth 6) Waitress takes cocktail orders which also take a very long time 7) They serve my G&T in a hi ball glass... expecting rocks or Copa glass. I'm a serious Gin drinker, and if I'm ordering top shelf, I expect a rocks or Copa glass. Not a big deal -- just get it swapped. Waitress is obviously very busy, so I walk over to the bar and ask the hostess for a rocks glass. I'm already figuring out there is a front of house service problem at this restaurant, so I'm trying as discreetly as possible to take care of the situation without being a Karen and simply enjoying a nice evening out with my wife. She nods confirms and says right away - it never came. 8) At this point I just explain to the bartender that I was served top shelf in a high ball and would like a rocks glass so I can sip and enjoy it. He looks at me, rolls his eyes, hands me a tiny rocks glass that was entirely filled with a huge single artisan cube and walks away. Thanks dude for awesome service. 9) Ordering - I order the grilled trout on the menu. It does not say rainbow or steelhead, ocean or river. When I see that on a menu I always assume white flakey river trout. 10) Food takes forever - and when it arrives, I see a piece of grilled pink salmon that is nothing like what I was expecting. Salmon is ok but I'm not a huge fan. I took one bite and it had all the bearing of a salmon flavor profile. Not eating this... I send it back and waitress is very apologetic and offers something else. I felt so bad about the mixup I wanted to see if I misunderstood and screwed up, so I look at the menu and it just says Grilled Trout. Ordered the Steak Skewers which take another 25 minutes to show up. Ordered another G&T for the wait, which doesn't show up until AFTER the steak finally shows. 11) The owner Helmy comes to my table - I am always happy to chat with a manager or owner. I did not request it - I figured he was touring the dining room and meeting the guests - which is a show of great hospitality. But that isn't why he comes over to my table. He walks over to tell us that the fish that showed up 45 minutes earlier REALLY is trout and can prove it to us. He then blamed everything on his waitress and called it a training issue. Our server could not have been nicer or more apologetic. I have to stop here. Really dude? It was then and there I figured out this dining experience is a reflection of the owner. He pissed me off so much, and did not acknowledged any of the other mess ups over the evening. I showed him the pic of the menu with an inaccurate description of the fish, and asked him why he was making this an issue and interrupting my meal with this nonsense. It's over and you're not making this better. Go away. 12) Bill comes with fish still on it. Waitress removes it. We leave at 9 PM. It took this restaurant over two hours to seat us a table that wasn't wobbly, drink three cocktails, and eat an app and our mains. No dessert. Dropped all in $200. We ordered drinks - the Stereo Martini and Dubai Alexander were simply divine. The Mezze platter was supreme! We also enjoyed the meatballs and the Lamb Mergeuz were super delicious. We really enjoyed the ambience at Stereo 41 it's a great vibe, and the drinks were actually really good once they arrived. That said, the service was pretty disappointing. It took a very long time to get our drinks, and our server forgot a majority of the food we ordered. Even the items that did come out took quite a while. What made it more noticeable was that the restaurant wasn't crowded at all; there were plenty of empty tables around us. I'm not sure if this is because it's a newer restaurant and they're still working out the kinks. I'd probably give it another try because I didn't dislike the food or drinks themselves it was really just the service that fell short. read more
