Since 1889, wow that is a tradition! If you're disenchanted with the flashy steak places that can start to seem all same with the same loud crowd and their flashy cars and yearn for a steakhouse experience that is authentic traditional and nostalgic, then Stockyards is your place. A little out of the way in a somewhat surprising location, Stockyards is a breath of fresh air. It isn't pretentious but is comforting with tables and comfortable banquettes and attentive and courteous staff. I love that the basket of warm bread is biscuits and cornbread, since I cannot have gluten I was so happy to tuck into the cornbread. I really like the house salad, it fresh crisp simple and just what I want a house salad to be. I will definitely be back and I recommend Stockyards to all my friends!! read more

For this price you're much better off going to a higher end steakhouse. The decor hasn't changed in quite some time and is not quite old enough and definitely not modern enough. It just missed the mark on all fronts. I got the special steak cut ($70) and it was quite a bad cut of meat. The flavor was fine but the cut ruined it. Stringy and chewy. Not good. Baked potato was good but it's a potato. Salad was slightly above average. Desert was really good. The only high point of the meal was the staff. Everyone, from the front desk to the waiters were amazing! They're doing something right with the staff as they were engaging and quite frankly exceptional. read more

This is your old school, upscale steakhouse. Pleasantly decorated in dark wood tones and formal wares. Nice menu with plenty of options for everyone. Dinner came with house made biscuits and cornbread accompanied with honey butter. These melted in my mouth. We tried the steak soup , tenderloin chili and smoked chicken and rice soups. Every one of them was hearty and flavorful. My favorite was the steak soup. For our main course we all got the filet cooked medium - which was perfect! The Parmesan potatoes were sliced thin and loaded with fresh Parmesan slices. They couldn't have been better. For dessert the chocolate mousse was rich and velvety. Cheesecake smooth and creamy. Here on a mini getaway with my boyfriend and we wanted to try a steak house before we fly back to Cali! I got the rib eye and he the filet mignon, the meat was amazing we loved it so much! House salad was good and mashed potatoes were amazing, sadly the baked potato and unsweetened tea were not for us, we sent that back. We had dinner on a Wednesday night. We were in downtown Phoenix on a staycation and were told this was a good place to eat. We got there at 6 PM and the place was busy. We were seated right away and we were surprised at how nice it was. We had anticipated it being rustic and it was really nice in the seating area. We were immediately given a bread service and although we didn't try it, it looked quite good. After a couple drinks, we ordered. I had the prime rib stockyard style and my wife had the filet. I had garlic mashed potatoes and my wife had parmesan gratin. Both of our potatoes were absolutely wonderful. Dinners there come with a choice of salad or soup as well as a potato choice. Stockyards style steaks are reverse seared. For prime rib, that's my favorite ways of having it. Both our steaks were tender and done to our request. We had leftovers for sure. What an incredible place. I have been eating here for years. When we first moved here from Los Angeles, this was one of the first places we ate at, and I have continued eating here since then. Their meats are beyond compare. The prime rib is my all time favorite. But they have so many other great items, I could easily eat here 7 days a week, and try something different each day. Here's the rundown: Relish Dish: A good assortment of veggies and ranch dip upon seating Cornbread and Biscuit: Served in a basket upon seating as well: warm and sweet, with a great maple whipped butter on the side House Salad: Not the sad salads I eat in my apartment for lunch! Nicely mixed and I am a sucker for the fresh ground pepper served at the table. Ribeye: I got mine ordered Medium Rare and it was indeed pink in the center when cut. A well-seasoned cut of beef that looked and smelled the part of a good steak and it follows through upon first taste. Steak Fries: So fluffy, I haven't had Steak Fries cooked this good besides the local Peruvian chicken joint by my place. Mushroom: Pure umami and spiced well! The side was clearly meant for sharing but it was just me so I smothered my entire steak with 'shrooms and took the rest home. That's how good these were. My mom and brother where in town and we did have dinner plans, but about 2 hours before we were to go my brother decided he wanted steak and potatoes and nothing fancy (his words) and then my mom was like yea me too, so I suggested Stockyards, neither of them had been and it fit the description of what my brother wanted. Both were pleased when I told them that Stockyards is among the oldest steakhouses in the valley. Even without a reservation on a Thursday night we got into a table at 6pm, out server was friendly and had great suggestions when my brother had questions . After checking out the menu I went with the 5 oz Filet Mignon. All dinners include a choice of salad or soup, a baked potato or garlic whipped potatoes, parmesan potatoes, seasoned veggies, rice pilaf or fries. The atmosphere reminds me of something from maybe the 60s or 70s. Can't explain it but I guess you call it "rustic". Maybe it's the curved vinyl booths at the tables. The dress was casual. I sat at the bar. Well stocked with an extensive whiskey/ bourbon menu. The menu had various beef and seafood options. 12 oz ribeye ran $48. With bigger options available. Includes a starch side and soup or salad. Normally I go salad but tonight was seafood chowder which was real good. The other side I went Parmesan potato stack which was like au gratin. Pre meal was biscuits with butter and vegetables which included jicama root. The meal was well prepared and not over seasoned. There was a side of garlic butter to add if wanted. Delicious dinner straight off the plane in Phoenix. Stockyards is an old-school steakhouse that has stayed true to its roots. Very nice decor and ambiance. Started with the steak soup. Creamy, savory soup with veggies and chunks of prime rib. Very enjoyable. For the main course, had the 16oz ribeye with a peppercorn Demi glaze and seasonal vegetables. Steak was a perfect medium rare and very tender. Demiglaze was delicious and a perfect compliment. Very good steak dinner! If you are a carnivore, you will love this restaurant. There are lots of steaks and lots of sizes-ribeye, filet, etc. in sizes from 7 ounces to 18 ounces! I had a filet and it was just delicious. Can't beat it. Comes with whipped potatoes and mixed vegetables. It all tastes great. The service at this restaurant is quite good, just what you would expect. Our food came out in a reasonable time and the waiter was quite attentive. I felt very safe going to the Stockyards. Tables are socially distance and everyone wears a mask except well eating. There is sanitizer and all in all I wasn't worried at all. The only reason I gave this restaurant four stars instead of five is that it was so cold. We had vents blowing right on us all the time and it was not too comfortable. I do recommend this restaurant. read more

We have eaten at Stockyards twice now, while visiting our son in Phoenix. The food was delicious! My husband thought that the prime rib was the best he's ever had, which is saying a lot for a 75 year old guy! I loved the cream spinach and wedge salad. But the really amazing thing was that on the last time we visited, I lost an earring. It was a really significant piece of jewelry that I had brought back from a recent trip to Nepal. We didn't have time to investigate fully, as we had to return home to San Francisco. A few days later, heartbroken, I called on the remote chance that someone had turned it in. They had! They were so kind, and put it in a padded envelope and sent it to me right away. I am so grateful! Thank you for everything Stockyards staff!! We'll be back! read more

Not so much - not enough cheese and the potatoes were not cooked enough. Dining room is like walking back in time which is fine for a restaurant that opened in 1947! I liked the historic pictures and memorabilia around the dining room - where else can you sit underneath a picture of Barry Goldwater for gods sake??? The dining room is not fancy but certainly well decorated. The decor encourages a very casual ambiance which is I appreciate. Service was quite good. Professional waiter. Knew his stuff and delivered every time. Bottom line - if you want a great steak without the fuss and expense of a trendy place, go to the Stockyards Restaurant. Came for lunch everything was lukewarm warm and we were the only two people in the restaurant. Service was fine waiter was apologetic. Then while BSing with the busboy while kidding around I said the food was not good and throw the plate at the chef with a laugh.Then the manager I believe Travis Moore comes to the table beet red voice shaking and then berated me in front my guest at my birthday celebration for making a joke with the busboy. I guess the chef is super sensitive. Bottom line is the food is supposed to come out hot no excuses. Maybe Travis should be more concerned with that. read more

We've been going to Stockyards for all our important celebrations and milestones. Tonight they ruined a birthday celebration. We were an inconvencience as they had several large tables coming in. We had to ask for our ticket which has never occurred in multiple visits. Due to our disappointment we asked to speak with the manager. Kathy listened but couldn't care less. All she said was I'm sorry, no offers of trying to make it right, nothing. Apparently, only cisgendered couples and families are welcome. We've been going for years, but we won't be back and recommend others avoid if they don't want to be discounted for groups and others deemed more important. The Stockyards restaurant had a good history, a fun atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious food. I got the butterfly shrimp, vegetable melody, twice-baked mashed potatoes, French onion soup, and a glass of Torresella Pinot Grigio, Veneto. It was all great! Kevin was our server. He did a great job! I was unsure which wine to get, and he suggested a trial of his favorites. It was so lovely. They also bring warm biscuits and cornbread to the table with honey butter. It's hard not to have one. They were delicious, too. I also tried my friend's grilled filet bites. Very delicious! I might get that next time. If you have read my past reviews, you will not find one steak house. There is a reason: I can make a steak just as good at home then any high end steak place. I may have change my mind. So I have to start with saying this has been my favorite restaurant in Phoenix since I can remember, and I am a native Arizonan. However last night, we were there for a 30th birthday with 6 people at our table. We made a reservation ahead of time. We must have sat and waited for water and bread, not even drinks, for 45 minutes. Drinks arrived, bread and appetizers. Then another 45 minutes for our entrees. The entrees for the price, were well below standard. My prime rib was gristly as well as fatty. Definitely not what I have come to expect from Stockyards. I'm so disappointed that my favorite restaurant has turned barely mediocre. Now for the check!! With everyone drinking and eating and appetizers I expected a high bill: With tip: $630.00. However, if the food had been what I had expected I wouldn't have a problem but this was Golden Corral level meat. I'm sorry Stockyards, I'm going to have to find a new go to favorite. read more

Meal was barely, I mean barely warm, so I asked to send it back, and the waitress nicely did so, but it came back two minutes later the same way. They tried their best to offer a substitution, and the waitress was very understanding, but the meal just wasn't worth what they were charging.
