Do not come to this restaurant for brunch!! The service is bad, the food is mediocre, and the portions are small for most dishes. The chicken and waffles are good, but is just one waffle and one piece of chicken. The eggs Benedict is terrible, as not only are the portions small, but the eggs were hard boiled and there was a lot of yellow/wilted arugula with it. Wait time was long, the waiter didn't even pick up the menus after ordering, and the water tastes like soap water. It is also hard to flag the waiters. There is also a train right by the restaurant, so it is loud. The recent change in management and the chef may be the reason why this restaurant still has 4 stars, but this is a terrible place for food. read more

It's not what it used to be. The menu has changed and I was super hopeful to have a lamb burger like it used to be, but I wasn't that lucky. The onion rings and burger were under seasoned/ not seasoned at all. They also changed the menu and now serve onion rings with the burger I'm sure you can sub fries but I didn't realize until I got my food (my fault) the beer selection is great but the food is just meh. The space and vibe are 5 stars. The staff was great, very friendly and accommodating. The drinks were also really good, and i appreciate the large number of taps. The food unfortunately was a miss. We had mostly appetizers and they were all borderline bad. We had the pretzel which is more of bread and the nachos which were really poor. The nachos presentation was excellent, but the overall flavors were a miss, i post this review with hopes that they'll revisit the dish and make improvements. We also had the shrimp tacos which was a mixed bag, i actually thought my taco was good but dining guest found the shrimp to be fishy and overall didnt finish theirs. We'll give Stone and Rail another shot and try some other dishes next go as we ultimately want to like the restaurant due to promising venue space and staff. read more

Really cute gastropub next to train station. Nice exposed brick walls. Above the bar there are lit signs from various train stations in Bergen County. There are also TVs. We sat at the bar and both Tevin and Brianna were our bartenders. Very attentive and had great suggestions. Large selection of beer. My husband enjoyed his IPA. I had a jalapeño margarita which had the perfect amount of spice. We shared a hot pretzel that was large enough for four to five people. Piping hot and cooked perfectly. We came for brunch on Mothers Day with a 12:30pm reservation. We were supposed to receive complimentary mimosas as part of our meal but only half of the drinks came, no bread or water for the table. We waited an hour for them to take our food order and then another hour before we were told it would be difficult for them to get the food out to us as they were short staffed and the kitchen was backed up. We waited another 30 mins and left with no food after 2.5 hours. We found out 75% of people didnt get their food and left. The ones who did get food waited hours and were not impressed with what came out. To make matters worse my mother who is 80 and in a wheel chair was really excited because she rarely gets to get out. She got all dressed up and makeup done only to have her mothers completely ruined. I would imagine atleast 20 other mothers had their day ruined too. The manager sent out 1 crying waitress and 1 pregnant waitress to do his job and apologize to everyone. We all felt really bad for them as your could tell they really felt bad. He only came once to us and apologized but if I am being honest it felt rushed and insincere. Nothing was offered in the slighest to make ammends for what was easily all of our worst restaurant experiences. No food, no beer, no offer in the future to make it right. Nothing. Friendly and cheerful staff are not enough to make up for a weak kitchen. Perhaps the menu is too large for them. In two visits we've not found anything to eat that was better than just ok. Nachos are a misbegotten mess. Badly thought out and delivered as a saucy mess of quickly soggy chips. The pulled beef topping is good but needs to be extracted from the morass of weird cheese sauce. Nobody in our party could figure out why the dish was done that way. I wouldn't order it again unless they start using real cheese. Shrimp Po Boy is fine. Probably the best thing we ate. But it's nothing special and flavors are a far cry from anything even remotely influenced by New Orleans Po Boy tradition. Beer list is lopsided. Good breweries but not a great selection of specific beers from those. I couldn't find anything I really wanted. The kitchen should cut the menu in half and then get a copy of The NY Times cookbook and stick to it. Stopped in yesterday (Sunday) and were the first ones in. Our bartender, whose name I forgot, was super friendly. She was very informative about all the beers we asked about. The beer selection was solid. I can see this being a draw for fans of craft in the area. We didn't do much eating. The pretzel with the Guinness cheese sauce was pretty good. The wings were meaty and flavorful. The one downside was the celery was not fresh at all. It was on the limp side and the tips were discolored. Also, no carrots. Found this place on TikTok so my friend and I went to check out sunday during lunch and had a great experience since I walked in. I got there 30 minutes before my reservation and they were able to accommodate me right away. Our server Cynthia was a joy and we enjoyed her service! We tried the brunch flight, the mimosa and Bellini were amazing however the sangrias were bitter. My friend and I both did not like them. We wanted to try everything on the menu! For appetizers we went for the calamari and the sauce was really good, they don't serve much so we had to ask for another one for our main meal we went for burgers! I built my own and it was good, the fries were very crispy. My friend got the jersey burger and she loved it . It was really big she was not able to finish it so she took it home. Dishes come out of the kitchen at a slow pace regardless of how busy the place is. The food could be so much better with just a few tweaks. Went last night for the first time, save yourself your time and money and look elsewhere. The hostess was lovely and we were seated quickly. Then it took forever for the server to arrive. We ordered boneless Buffalo wings, and the potato skins. First up the boneless wings, they looked like they came out of a Costco bag, crappy, over cooked and tasteless. VERY underwhelming! . I gave it three stars because it really does try, it just falls short. I want to preface with saying that I come here a lot with girlfriends. Their drinks are really good, as well as an occasional appetizer. However their food, which they try to come up with creative ideas, lacks flavor. It was different, but definitely needed salt and possibly a different sauce on top. The spicy pesto was great, but it was smaller than a dime on the plate, so it wasn't going to cover much. It has asparagus in it, but was over cooked and the "sushi" definitely needed a crisp asparagus. My friend had the squash gnocchi, which sounded like it was going to be good but had not flavor, the sauce was thin and really brought nothing to the dish. I had the prime rib sandwich which was Okay but not served with au jus and the horseradish sauce definitely didn't have enough horseradish to give it a kick. We did enjoy dessert, which was the cheesecake tacos. It had a nice crispy shell, fluffy whipped cream and the cheese cake was a good consistency. We held an event there last night where the manager/ bartender/ contractor/ general manager changed the room on us at the last minute, didn't give us a promised discount and was all around nasty to party members. His titles may be confusing, cause they were.. he kept changing his title and the reason for not giving us the room we reserved many times throughout the night. He refused to speak to us to talk about the a situation and instead acted irrationally and childlike. Poorest customer experience ever! Don't go here - we couldn't even get seated. We checked in at the hostess stand and it was a half hour wait - perfectly acceptable on a Saturday night. While we were waiting, multiple parties came in and got seated. When we asked, we were told that online reservations got priority. I was curious so I went directly to the reservation option on THEIR site and made a reservation for 15 minutes from that time (we had already waited the half hour). When I checked in for my online reservations, I was told I would be put at the end of the waiting list, which was 40 minutes. This was despite a party of four walking in and being seated right before this. I came here after my bridal shower for a very last minute impromptu gathering with my close friends and family. They let us have the whole top room right away and were very accommodating!!! We did accidentally break a couple glasses and they were so nice about it and very nice to us overall. We also ordered food and they set up a table for us and the food was literally so good. BUT, I went with a group last weekend and the food was really good. Not just adequate, but it actually met the expectations I had when the place first opened and they bragged about the local celebrity chef. Appetizers (pretzel and chip nachos) were really good and prepared well and my hot honey chicken sandwich was one of the better chicken sandwiches I've had in a while. Coming here at 5:30pm was awful- at least the route that I took to get here. Keep in mind this place is right by a commuter train station so during those commuter hours, there will be traffic. I met a girlfriend here for dinner and I was very impressed by the decor and ambience of the place. I don't really know the history of the place before this, but the renovations must be an improvement; especially since it was pretty busy for a Wednesday evening. The place is extremely rustic with dark wood floors and tables. The high ceilings make the place look HUGE and your eyes definitely dart towards the large bar area. We were seated toward the back where there's second level as well as a large barn style door that closed off a separate sections for parties or larger groups. I wasn't that hungry so I opt for the buffalo wings with a side of their roasted cauliflower. My friend got a steak dish (sorry, forgot what it was called) which she swears by. Thinking back, I probably should've tried a piece because it looked juicy AF. Anyway, though my dish was pretty boring, it wasn't the typical 'bar' food I was expecting. Everything was really flavorful, ESPECIALLY this s'mores dessert we shared. The melted chocolate and marshmallow alone was good enough for me. Great spot overall. Came for lunch and food was awesome, but since it's a bar, I feel it would definitely be a better vibe at night. Food was classic American, but to be honest, nothing really special for me. It was definitely good, but just nothing over the top, which is why I only gave four stars. Another cool thing is their POS system is Toast and they have the upgrade where you can order everything on your phone! Since we came for lunch, that feature is kinda useless because our waiter is able to be so attentive, but if it were busy and our waiter is slammed, that's an awesome little perk. What really is awesome though are the prices! Cocktails were less than $10 and all entrees were reasonably priced. Calamari was great, especially the sauce it comes on top of. Cauliflower burger was filling, despite being a vegetarian dish. Trio burgers were good, but the cheeseburger in particular was a little dry for me. The tuna came out medium, which is fine for me, but just be aware that it's not fully cooked by default. Prime rib sandwich was probably my favorite though! Nice and juicy with a great sauce. My only complaint is that the sandwich is huge, but the fries didn't match in proportion, which kinda sucks, but I'm assuming it's just a little mistake on their part because the trio came with a lot of fries. The pretzel was incredibly burnt and dry, and the beer cheese cold. Worst of all, for three shrimp tacos, I was given SIX pieces of small shrimp. For $18, that is absolutely disgraceful. If this was listed as an appetizer I would understand, but there's no justification for charging $18 for a an entree meal this small and underwhelming. Enjoyed a couple of cocktails here with a friend and definitely enjoyed the ambiance and beverages! I've passed Stone & Rail a few times driving home and was always interested. The outside facade is really updated and appealing so it definitely draws you in. Inside, they've done a great job with the decor and even have the NJ Transit train line stations that run through Glen Rock and the different stations light up as the train would pass through the stations. I came to the Stone and Rail on a Wednesday evening and they were pretty busy. My friend and I sat at the bar. We were greeted by the bartender, she wasn't very friendly. But I think she was having a bad day so I'll just leave it at that. The place is cute. They don't have a cocktail menu but they do have 20 beers on tap, including some craft beers, as well as some bottled. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay that I actually didn't really like, and I got a Yuengling after. It was like $7. I think all the beers are $7. My friend and I ordered Calamari as an appetizer. I wasn't too fond of it. It was too salty, and it's because of whatever seasoning they put on top to garnish it. I think it would have been totally fine without that. So if you order calamari, get it without the extra seasoning they add. Pulled pork sandwich I ordered was pretty good, and my friend had one of the burgers and she enjoyed it. I'll probably be back because it's so close to my neighborhood, but it's nothing to die for. Also, someone suggested I try the pulled pork poutine so I'll get that next time. read more

The prices are really awesome here too. Today i went for their brunch menu, and i was so impressed! We ordered the Chicken and Waffles which was absolutely incredible! They were some of the best I've ever had. Not too sweet and whatever buttery light sauce on the chicken was delicious! Enjoyed a nice Valentine's Prixe Fixe dinner tonight. Three courses with various choices from their normal menu for $32 per person. Dishes chosen were the Panzanella salad, avocado toast, shrimp tacos, and molten chocolate cake with ice cream. All were very tasty, only complaint would be the taco tortillas fell apart and I had to fork and knife it. Two thumbs down on that, It was cold and had no flavor, and was super chewy. The shoe string fries were terrible. Cold and tasted like stale potato chips. Super waste of $25. My friend, who order the steak too, said it was just ok. Maybe ours were just sitting out. Side note: chairs in the back area, standard height wood ones (not bar stools), are uncomfortable. The drinks -- Their craft beers are pretty standard so don't expect to discover anything new, however that said, there's a drink for anyone in your party to enjoy whether it's the cocktails or the beer menu. The food-- this is where this place is embarrassing. Their menu sounds incredible and is very nicely put together, but the execution is awful. The food is consistently cold, off-putting, and just completely lacking in flavor. I've tried near everything on the menu and never once been impressed. I came here with a party of 8, we all ordered different things, not ONE of us enjoyed anything other than the fries. I've had better meals from TV dinners. It's clear that their kitchen staff has zero clue what they're doing and enjoys using their microwave. The vibes-- decent. It's convenient if your local, but if not I'm not sure that there's ever a reason to come here instead of somewhere else.
