My review probably would have been four stars, had I not ordered food here. So, let's start with that. There was a very small menu and I decided to order the grilled cheese. You won't realize how monumental a decision that was for me - but at that point I had been low carb for a year and this was my FIRST time having bread in all that time. When on vacation, and all that. I had seen some at other tables and it just looked too good to pass up. Well. Both of our sandwiches were so burned, that was all you could taste. No wonderful bread or delicious cheese or fresh tomato. Burny burned burn. Otherwise, it was a nice place to relax after a long day. We were visiting from Colorado & exploring breweries looking for great beer (which they have) but were blown away by the food. Taco Tuesday was mind-blowing and everything we ordered was incredible. Nice little place in a very quiet area. We stopped here in our way into Burlington. The gentleman who waited on us was very friendly. We later found out from another bar tender at switchback that he was the manger at SC and had once worked right in town! He was very pleasant. Beer was OK I'd say a 3.5/5 overall, but the tacos were GREAT. I'm not a red meat person but devised to go for the BBQ pork tacos. They were awesome! The taco itself was great, seemed to be a homemade corn tortilla. Very cheap and delicious. Great little Place to stop on our way into town, helps to break up the last leg up the drive. read more

I am totally updating this review from a few years ago. I've been back here a few times recently and I have to say that Stone Corral has upped their game and I am SO thankful! The food is better, service has been consistently great these past few visits and the wait time is reasonable for service and food. It is nice to have a reliable local place, I hope that they keep it up!! Old review no longer applies at this time :) I am sitting here right now. After at least a half an hour of waiting we still don't have the 2 paninis we ordered. There are 3 other people here. No one else ordered food. I love the beer, the place is nice, but I have NEVER had a good experience here service wise. The 3 stars is only because the beer is okay and there is one lady that dirks here that is awesome. They keep advertising that they have lunch, why would they allow such awful service??? read more

I am always delighted when a restaurant delivers more than I expected. I used yelp to find this spot and it was better than I had expected. I visited Saturday night. There was great music - and the food and beer was spot on. I had the flyte of beer and the corn tacos. The flavor of the tacos was exceptional- I am not a huge fan of corn taco's but these were different. The flavor of the food balances the corn perfectly. My husband and I decided to try the Stone Corral with a friend of ours on a Saturday night. We ordered a flight to sample some beers I ordered a burger and my husband ordered the mac and cheese we opted for a pretzel for our appetizer. The beers were excellent ranging from sours to Stouts to ipas so there was a good mix for everybody. The beers were very good the food was not. For the cost of $5 we got an extremely over-salted small pretzel. When I say over-salted I really mean you can't see the pretzel underneath the salt. The pretzel came with our meal instead of ahead of it. As for my burger there was too much bun to Burger. For the cost of $15 I was expecting a burger I could really sink my teeth into. Side salad is standard side for burgers you have to pay extra for fries ( was not asked which I would like) My husband's mac and cheese was tasty though it was not anything special. If you go in with low expectations you may enjoy yourself. I've given this place six chances in the past year. I acknowledge the pandemic has thrown everything for a loop and staffing shortages are for real (I work at another restaurant). But the delays and inattentive service are just inexcusable after a while. Several times back, we sat down for lunch to be told that they only had bar snacks available during the lunch hour. Fine -- but tell us before we sit down and order drinks. Last time I dined in person, I was seated at the bar and got a glimpse into the kitchen -- saw runners bussing dirty plates and immediately grabbing food off the line to drop at tables. What about thorough hand-washing protocol that's totally standard in restaurants, pandemic or no pandemic? More recently, I ordered take-out. We had three orders of the kale salad and they arrived as pictured. If a place is out of 1 ingredient in a 4 ingredient dish, they really ought to let their patrons know when ordering. I called and they very graciously removed these rather pitiful salads from the bill. Sweet potato fries were (as usual) outstanding. Tacos good, nachos good. But none of these six experiences makes me ever want to go there again. Just not worth it, unless I figure out a way to drop my expectations from reasonably high to meh. read more

Stopped in on the recommendation of another beer lover, Bill B, that we met in Montpelier,VT. Bill suggested we would really like Stone Corral taproom and he was not wrong. First person we met was 'Burton' and he was knowledgeable about what was on tap and queried Russ about his taste in beer. Russ styled on Black Beer, a Schwarzbier (6.8%) German inspired lager. Simple, tasty food. Excellent beers. Thursday burger night is a great deal. Mellow, family friendly vibe with games, blueberry soda, and Rookies root beer. The flip side of the complaints about the service is that you order what you want, when you want it. There's no rush to decide what you want before a waitron comes back again, ordering everything at once, etc. It's not a standard, highly attentive restaurant service model, but it works if you know exactly what you want or want to sample your way through food and beer choices as you hang out. read more

What an incredible find driving through Vermont. Totally random discovery but the signs coming off the exit ramp led me to the most delightful find. Amazing fresh brewed beers with plenty of sours to choose from along with a creative menu. Bee and Buffalo sandwich was mind blowing and the Ole School burrito was even tastier the next day. We contemplated leaving, but after 15 mins the bar tender finally took our order. He also gave us the menu right before ordering so I kind of had to rush and pick. Really nice beer. The Stampede 2xIPA was flavorful with a strong malt backbone up to the task of balancing out the hops. The smoked wings were divine. The cheese plate was mostly a hit, and if they replaced the Cabot Pepper Jack with something I can't get for $2.50 a block on sale at the Richmond Market I'd deem it a winner as well. The atmosphere is great. A giant pastoral horse mural dominates the wall over the bar. Rough-hewn wooden tables, draped Navajo rugs and bits of equestrian bric-a-brac complete the theme. There are games to play like backgammon if you feel like lingering over a few pints and a stage that brings local bluegrass musicians by from time to time. All that said, the service needs some work. The bar was full early Saturday afternoon when we came in with our party of three so we chose a table instead. The bartender acknowledged our entrance. We perused the the beer and food options. And waited. Finally I got up and asked the bartender if we should order from the bar. With barely a glance she said "yes you should" in an unapologetic monotone and went back to what she was doing. She went ahead and made sure everyone at the bar had a refill on their beers while we stood there. For close to fifteen minutes. If there isn't table service, fine, but put out a sign indicating it as such, or, you know, tell people when they walk in so they're not sitting there confused (we noticed other tables awkwardly waiting too by the way). And if you're going to make someone wait for fifteen minutes a little eye contact and a little notice go a LONG way. There are tons of breweries in Vermont and the majority of them pump out good beer (including Stone Corral). But service is paramount and what keeps folks coming back. We got rubbed the wrong way on this visit. We'll definitely give it another shot or two as we're local, but we're hoping for improvement. read more

We stopped here to get dinner and drinks with a friend on a Friday night. The vibe was great, it was busy but not packed. Halfway through dinner they had live music which was great. They also had bored games like Scrabble and Jenga at all of the tables to play with which was nice! The build your own flights were 4 beers for $4. Such a good deal! The burgers and cheese plate were delicious and full of flavor. The cheese plate had apples and nuts and honey as well as cheese. This place was relaxing and welcoming and very affordable. It was a little awkward to get to from Stowe because you had to get off 89 and then back track, but that was my only complaint! read more

The range that Stone Corral shows is truly impressive. These guys do not cater to the "my IPA is bigger than yours" crowd. In fact, they didn't even have an IPA on tap when I visited. Maltier or milder beers are the focus here. I didn't really like the Scotch Ale, but those aren't typically my style anyway. What did surprise me was how much I enjoyed Latigo, a Scottish Export, which again is not a style I usually go for The Chocolate Maple Porter sounded terrible ( I don't like sweet beers), but this is honestly one of the best Porters I've ever had. There is a noticeable maple flavor, but the beer isn't that sweet. I really liked the ranch vibe they have going on in the taproom, it's not like any of the other breweries in the area. read more

We enjoyed our Sunday evening at stone corral. All of the beers in our flight were interesting to the pallet and drinkable. The food is solid for a place that is primarily a brewery, our Apple/Brie panini was good,(meaning the apples were sliced thin and the cheese & bread were fresh). As you might guess interior is a western theme and they have some comfy couches and comfy bar seats. Though the kids working there clearly don't have much experience or training in service, they were friendly and congenial enough. My only nitpick is that the 'sour' we ordered really wasn't sour at all. I'd happily go back here and likely will for some live music on their stage. read more

Stone Corral is my favorite local bar. The variety this small brewery offers is outstanding, and I haven't been disappointed with any selections so far. The Latigo is my favorite to date. The place itself is a little kitschy, but it's charming. I do wish there were more outdoor/pet-friendly seating, but there's usually a spot on the front porch available. read more

Not so bad if you sit at the bar but if you sit at a table, you have to go up and order your drinks, then go back and order your food, then go back up and order more drinks. On each of these trips to order you will find yourself in line behind people stopping in to have growlers filled etc. They have someone coming out of the kitchen to deliver the food and the dining room is small so they could easily have a person spend half their time rounding on the tables to take orders but instead one person from your group has to break from the conversation and go stand in line to place your order for each round. While the food was decent, the service was ok. We were given a lengthy excuse as to why we could not eat outside on a gorgeous day, even though there was a table. Then we were told that they were out of all IPAs on tap, and could not even purchase 4-pack of IPA that was for sale because they wanted to save it for someone who might want to purchase to go. Kids were disappointed with only iced tea (and milk, not even chocolate) for non carbonated beverage. Came from a wonderful hike at Camel's Hump down the road and was so looking forward to grabbing a beer and food here after. We were put off that the hostess scoffed at us for not having made a reservation online. Totally understand if that's the system (though I've never encountered such requirements at a brewery) but there were plenty of empty tables. She told us she had nothing, with no offer of a waiting list or even a feigned "sorry." To make matters worse, after we left dismayed, we looked online and saw there were several available reservations within 30 minutes of getting turned away. I get that it's a tremendously difficult time to work in the service industry, but there was no reason for such rude treatment when we were being nothing but kind, patient, and excited to be there. It put a real damper on an otherwise lovely day. read more

Stone Corral was part of our annual VT brewery trip this year. Service was good. Bartender was friendly and helpful. But very disappointed in the beer here. Wasn't anything memorable or special, just average craft beer at best. Only thing Stone Corral provided wss a little comic relief as we kept calling it "Golden Corral" the whole weekend. I ordered the salad with roasted squash. It was a giant plate of lettuce. I'm recommending a better ratio of squash to lettuce. The chicken was perfect for a taco but wasn't too appealing as an addition for the salad. Consider changing up the chicken so it looks more palatable for salads. Staff was friendly and efficient.
