Mall food? Really? Me? Yes. For what ever reason, this anti-mall person found herself at an actual mall. (I know, right??) It was around lunch, and Yelp did me right again. A quick Yelp search directed me here. This food court seems pretty modern. It reminded me of a mall in Vancouver, BC that I visited a few years back. (I digress) Anyway, back to the food. Yes. My wife suggested ordering a sandwich from Stone Oven which was always a good choice in the past. With the Sandwich I was given a few sides to choose from and I decided that I'd go for the Caesar salad instead of chips. The sandwich was good but the salad not so much. The romaine lettuce looked like something from a Disney movie because of all the wilted leaves and various colors throughout. I would hope that whoever is the one cleaning and mixing the salads pay better attention to what's being served to their customers! read more

I didn't realize that I had been to a Stone Oven in Bonita CA until I went to write a review and it said, "update your review." That said, I'm shocked at myself that I ordered the exact same sandwiches from 2011....and I like to think that I like to try new things!!! So I didn't really have a problem with the sandwiches in Bonita and I was more ticked at the sales people who harass you there. This mall in Culver City, while not being known as a great mall, is leaps and bounds better than Bonita! Onto the food....it was hot tasty and the portion sizes are generous. Just had their food catered by my office for lunch today and I was so in love with the sandwich I ate I had to write a review. I ate some kind of turkey avocado cheese sandwich. The bread they use is absolutely amazing. I am salivating remembering it now. It's like flavored focaccia or something. It has seasoning on top and just the right sponginess and moistness. The sandwich contents played so well with each other, maybe each bite heavenly. It was flavorful and fresh and just the right amount of juiciness for a sandwich. I would want to go here when I'm back in the area just to try their other sandwiches. This business has refused to sell us the "Side order of Focaccia" more than 3 times now, even though it is on their menu and each time I have ordered it they had at least 5 ready visible for us. My child loves the Focaccia and I have tried to order the side various times over the past 2 months, they always have a different excuse: 1. We don't sell it after 7 pm (even though they had at least 4 ready) 2. We don't sell it alone (even though it is priced on the menu - alone -) 3. We don't sell it at the moment (even though they had visibly 4 ready when I ordered AND I even ordered another main course, because the last time that had told me that they cannot sell the side alone - so today I ordered a sandwich - which I didn't even want - in order to get the focaccia for my child who was so looking forward to it - and they refused to sell us 2, not even ONE as side with the sandwich - so we took our business and dollars elsewhere. This mall has a decent food court, with at least 15 different store fronts. I've always wanted to try Stone Oven, and today was the day. They had the longest line, which is usually a barometer for the best food, at least in a mall food court. I got the tuna salad sandwich, which did not disappoint. For starters, it was made using their freshly baked bread (hence Stone Oven), which resembles a cross between a pita, and a ciabatta. They then add a good portion of tuna, some lettuce, onions, and fresh tomatoes. It was good, but I must admit, the best part was the side salad. I picked the potato salad which was fantastic, it had hints of dill, and perfectly prepared slices of potato. For about $8.50 I found myself sufficiently stuffed. Because the oven requires extra time to bake the bread, and the high demand for their food (lines), it takes almost 10 minutes for your order to come up. To their credit, everyone was working hard, and doing their best to process the orders, so the wait is not attributed to a lack of effort, just that good things take some time. read more

I really didn't expect too much from Stone Oven, a decently made sandwich, a small side of potato salad. Instead I got something way way better and a pretty good sandwich. One of the best mall food locations I've been to. I came here on a lazy Sunday morning, so no long lines or anything. Best part about tis place is that they really do have a stone oven! Pretty cool, you can see it all fired up and baking their bread. Which apparently they bake every 15 minutes or so, as I didn't see a lot of bread lying round, that may be true. Bread was pretty tasty. So their menu has a nice selection of sandwiches and salads. Also has a make your own sandwich option. I decided to go with the garlic and basil chicken sandwich with a side of potato salad. 8 dollars for a big sandwich and an equally large portion of potato salad. The plate they gave me was prolly aout 10 inches in diameter...a lot of food! They make everything right in front of you, from sliding the bread into the oven where you can see right into the oven, to slicing up the bread and putting on the ingredients. They actually take the time to put half the sandwich onto a pan, stick it into an oven for it to melt, then complete the rest. I was quite impressed with everything I got. Well the potato salad was just okay. But the sandwich was pretty good. The bread went nicely with everything and it was a really big sandwich. I only ate half of it actually. I wish they toasted the bread though, that would've been nice. I didn't expect them to use chicken deli meat, which was okay. On their site it says chicken breast actually. Most of the flavor was coming from the cheese and from the avocados they smushed on there. Didn't really taste too much of anything else. The potato salad had dill and celery, way way too creamy. Stone Oven is definitely one of those new breed of food court restaurants that tries to bring something new and unique to the usuals that we usually see such as Sbarro. The main star here is the fresh baked bread. It's baked in a stone oven, like the name implies, and then used for all the sandwiches. I got the BBQ Chicken Sandwich, which came with chicken, cheddar cheese, mayo, smoked bacon, and onion crisp. Overall the sandwich was tasty. The chicken itself is shredded and it does have a nice BBQ sauce. I like how they add the onion crisp. The sandwich is not very big though and for sure was not full afterwards. I opted for the Caesar salad for my side. Just your typical Caesar with lettuce, cheese, and some croutons. Now, it's not cheap. Actually the Westfield foodcourt is not cheap in general, with my sandwich being close to $8-9. If you want something filling, Stone Oven is probably not the place to go as there are other spots that can fill you up for much cheaper. It is, however, something different! read more
