We celebrated our anniversary here and it was our first time and WOW!!!! First, the ambiance was amazing. Secondly, Roderick was an absolutely awesome waiter. He was very familiar with everything and made excellent suggestions for everything from appetizers to the main course and then dessert. The steak egg rolls were very tasty and the crab cake wasn't bad we just wished it had more lump crab instead of being shredded. My coffee crusted steak was cooked a perfect medium and my wife enjoyed the halibut that was the special of the day. I went to Stoney River for a work dinner and it was delicious! We got the Tuna Stack and Spinach Dip for starters and enjoyed both (Even if you are not a tuna fan, the tuna stack was delicious)! Half of our table got the Filet Mignon and the other half ordered the Rib-eye and we all loved our steaks. They also sent us home with the biggest piece of carrot cake that I've ever seen. Nice restaurant nestled in the new Saddle creek area. I had opted for the Legendary filet medium as it is a special 12oz cut along with a loaded baked potato. A very nice atmosphere nestled in the corner of the glamorous Saddle Creek shops. This place perfectly fits the sophisticated and refined essence of East Memphis/Germantown. The staff was extremely heplful and concerned with my total experience. The food was really good. The steak was cooked perfectly--paired with delicious delicate biscuits were a match made in heaven. We arrived at 6:05 for our 6:15 reservation and was told it would be closer to 6:15. No biggie. A few minutes later were shown to our table, in the bar area. It's Friday, the bar is packed and it is LOUD. I politely ask to be seated elsewhere. After the not so friendly hostess flashes me a frown, she returns and says it would be at least 20 minutes until another table would be ready. We chose to stay, but shouldn't the bar area be for spill over, or those without a reservation? Just as a note, we aren't drinkers. The waitress asked if we would like a drink and we all asked for water. She arrived with 3 six ounce glasses with water and carafe of water. I don't think we are at Huey's. I then asked her for a bigger glass, more shade my way. My wife and I ordered the lobster bisque and yes, both were cold. We sent them back. They brought hot soup out for my wife, I chose to pass. The food arrived promptly. I ordered the salmon Szechuan style and it was delicious. As was the spinach that accompanied it. My wife ordered the bone in ribeye and garlic mashed potatoes. She thoroughly enjoyed it. My son had the strip. While it was properly prepared, he said there was too much seasoning. As he said, I can't really taste the steak, just the peppery seasoning. So, bottom line, if the service had been as good as the food, the rating would be higher. read more

I was skeptical because it's a chain. Gave it a try tonight. Service was 'ok'. Biscuits were cold and hard. House salad was ok but the ranch dressing was not. The tomato and mozz salad was good (thus the two stars instead of one). Wife had the coffee-marinated steak. It was overcooked and dry. I had the sea bass which was of good quality but not seasoned and a very small portion. The spinach flotilla atop which the sea bass sat was ok. I had a side of asparagus which was undercooked and cold. $116 with tip. They're trying really hard, but fall WAY short of hitting the mark of reasonable expectations for an upscale restaurant. read more

I am so irritated and angered with YELP and Stoney Rivers management. I made a reservation a week ago through yelp for today, the Saturday before Mother's Day. This was supposed to be a fun and relaxing lunch for myself and 5 other mothers. Last night, I get an email from open table confirming my reservation for today but to my surprise it's to the company that owns Stoney river and not Stoney river (Redlands grill j Alexander). I go on yelp to see how this could've happened, when you click on make a reservation through this yelp page, it goes to the redland grill website and open table links to j Alexander instead of Stoney river. I call Stoney river and speak to someone named Amber what happened several times. The first time the answer was "oh we are booked up, I'm sorry that happened but the only way to make a reservation is over the phone or through open table." So I explain that it's a legit button on yelp to make a reservation, she puts me on hold and comes back and says the same thing. I tell her AGAIN what happened, she puts me on hold again and then someone else picks up the phone. I'm assuming she's management and asks what's the issue. At this point, I'm ready to throw my phone out the window. She basically says the same thing that Amber says with an added, "well we will let management know about the issue with reservations through yelp." We were ALL looking forward to eating at Stoney River today and have been talking about it all week. If we wanted j Alexander's, I would've went on their yelp page and made a reservation. I'm annoyed at the staff at Stoney river because they should've attempted to offer some type of resolve to the situation but I got a dry apology and excuses. read more

I just love this place and every time I visit I love it more. We recently went for my birthday and it was even better than the other times I had before. I have had almost everything on the menu that is not pork related. You can't go wrong at this place. I always love the steak rolls for a starter, you can't go wrong with the Grouper, any steak, burger or salad. The only thing that needs a little work is the desserts. This is my go to spot for a drink with a friend. pre-COVID we could enjoy drinks and appetizers around the bar and have great convo because it's never too loud. Uninspiring. I WANT to love Stoney River, but after a few visits, I have to admit that it just doesn't compare to say, Southern Social (2 blocks away) or my other pricey Memphis Faves. The Meiomi Pinot Noir ($11) is a popular House Wine at several restaurants I've been to. This time I ordered the Famous Steak & Biscuits ($16) ~ Seared Tenderloin on Homemade Biscuits. There were a few muscle strings in the thinly-sliced meat, & the Biscuits were dry & bland. I substituted Mac 'n Cheese for the Fries. Smoky Gouda gave it a different flair. Interior is dark & expensive, reminds me of hundreds of Corporate Dinners at similar venues ~ maybe that's my problem. Service is efficient & perfunctory, but I wouldn't call it a "Fun" place. First - off: Service was excellent. Well done to our server - Kevin. Food was ok, but not what we'd anticipated. Everyone had steaks. All came out one level undercooked (medium rare was rare, medium was medium rare, etc.) my wife likes her steaks well done, and even suggested they butterfly it to ensure it was cooked properly. When it arrived, it was medium at best. She sent it back and 10 minutes later it came back "done". The rest of us muscled through ours, but you shouldn't need to muscle through a $40 steak. Suggest better QC on steak preparation. Noise was also an issue. It rose to the level of a Chili's. My son and daughter had to raise their voices to talk- sitting next to each other in a booth. There was one loud table across the restaurant that seemed to start the cycle, and each table talked louder to be heard over the other. Might consider some sound proofing and dampening. Again, at a Chili's or Buffalo Wild Wings you might expect the noise, but not at a finer dining establishment. Again, service (to include reservations and greeting) from beginning to end was excellent. On par with Ruth Chris or the Lookout. Went to dinner with a few girlfriends on a Monday night. The restaurant was not busy, so it wasn't too loud or chaotic. The Philly egg roll appetizer was delicious. The others also had the spinach dip and really enjoyed it. The bread "puppy's" is amazing! I don't know what they add for the touch of sweetness, but they were perfect little bread balls of heaven. Two of us (including me) ordered the Coffee cured filet, one had a salad with chicken, and the other had a NY Strip. I can't speak for the others, but in my opinion my steak was the best steak I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection (medium) and was the most flavorful steak. The coffee flavor wasn't overwhelming, but instead enhanced the natural flavor of the beef. I wish I was a food critic to describe it better, but I can say that I raved about this steak with every bite and I'm still thinking about it 2 weeks later. I will be back soon! read more

Went to celebrate an anniversary. The coffee based rub on their fillet mignon was outstanding. Three out of four of us ordered fillets and all were cook to the correct temp all the way to the last bite! Their potato gratin was wonderful! Thinly sliced potato's that were exceptionally tender table side! Their cheese to potato ratio was just perfect! The cheese was just sharp enough to say hello, but not overwhelming. Lastly, but ordered first was the appetizer, steak rolls. A spin on the Philly cheese steak sandwich. Basically a cheesesteak (very cheesy!) wrapped up in an egg roll! They had a dipping sauce to complement which had just a little bite to it! A big hit at the table! Overall great service, never an empty cup nor a dirty plate at the table! I write a lot of good reviews, because people normally only complain on YELP, however - we are not going back to Stoney River again. I don't mind overpaying for food at a restaurant, as long as I get the experience and food that I expect. Last night I took my family of 6 to dinner at Stoney River in Germantown, Tennessee. Three of us ate salads. Nobody ever looks at the bottom of a salad bowl, but with just a casual touch of the underside of the bowl we could ALL FEEL grime. Thick nasty grime...like the bottom was not ever cleaned from the previous person who ate off of it. I looked under the bowl and actually saw food hanging off the bottom. I will attach a picture if YELP allows the posting of pictures. We told the manager and he didn't seem to care. Not going back. Eating out is terribly expensive these days, and I expect clean dishes at the very least. read more

I love the service and atmosphere of Stoney a River. I've dined here a few times, but this review is based on my most recent visit. We arrived for lunch and did not have reservations, so there was about a ten minute wait. We ordered the steak rolls (highly recommend) as an appetizer. I ordered the steak salad and the other person in my party ordered the pecan trout, which was a massive portion! The steak salad was okay....probably due to the fact that my steak was actually over cooked. Ok is the best word that I can think to describe my lunch at Stoney River. I was really excited to be going for a special work anniversary lunch celebration. I ordered the Thai chicken salad and it was a big disappointment. I got the dressing on the side. The lettuce was very dry, brown and honestly looked like the bagged salad you get at Kroger. After I put dressing on the salad it was some what better but overall it was a big disappointment. The server while professional came across with no personality almost to the point of reminding me of being zombie. Just no personality, It's like they are trying way too hard. I gave a 3 star rating because the person celebrating work anniversary was happy with their meal. In the future I probably would pass on going to Stoney River. We got to come back! I like the Stoney River Legendary Filet and Au Gratin potatoes. I also really loved the Hashbrowns for Two but they've gotten rid of that, which made me sad. The waiter seemed to get everything mixed up this go around and forgot to bring things we asked for. The food was good so everyone was forgiving about it but it was a lot of mistakes, which is something I don't usually remark about. We didn't have this issue last time so I think this was just a one time fluke. Food was still amazing and we will definitely be back. Chocolate cake was still awesome and we appreciate that they cut a large piece up for us to split among our whole party since we come here for three celebrations all at once. read more
