Don't sit at the bar. Previous times I've eaten here the food was amazing. Just bad service this time

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US!! We tried to get into this restaurant by walking in last year. They only take reservations so we were stoked to try this place and celebrate our 24th anniversary. Our server, Zee, was just spectacular. She was very attentive, gave us suggestions and made our evening very special. All of the staff made it a point to stop by and wish us a happy anniversary. Enough of that, let's get down to the drinks and food. I started with a Winter is Coming (diehard GoT fan so why not?!) and the love of my life had the Lemon Drop Mojito. For entrees I had filet medallions topped with jumbo shrimp with a side of roasted multi-colored beets. The hubby had Bistro Chicken with risotto and spinach. The atmosphere was great for our large party of ten. We were seated at one of the large round tables which made conversation easy. Everyone's selections were well prepared and all the special requests were accommodated. Service was good especially considering we were a large group. read more

Horrible service and food. It's like being in an over priced club as loud as it is in there. I had to send a medium well steak back 2 times, then it came back burnt. The manager doesn't not know how to speak she just smiles. It's so loud in there and people making out at the bar. It's like a club. To pay that kind of money and not even be able to have a nice conversation is insane. It took 2hours to just have a regular meal in there and we had a because the service is horrible now. It used to not be that bad. I also had a special request for a quiet table because we were celebrating my husband birthday yesterday and Nope the manager put us right in the bar area and just smiled when I asked! Looking for a date night or family outing for steak. You should consider trying them out. Friendly door service and table service. The food is excellent. After having this much lauded Louisville steakhouse on my to do list for Awhile, I finally Made a reservation tonight at Stoney river steakhouse today for my oldest daughters 13th birthday. The elegant steakhouse is located in the east end of Louisville and situated right in front of popular shopping outlets known as the Paddocks. We nabbed a reservation at 5pm today and walked in as the only ones at the establishment about ten minutes before our reservations. They sat us almost immediately. Shortly after five the place started filling up. So it was cool to have the place to ourselves for a few moments. Made my daughter feel like royalty on her birthday. The inside is very elegant and has the traditional dim lit atmosphere that other high end steak houses in the area have. We started with two appetizers. We got the deviled eggs and the jumbo cocktail shrimp. Both we're very good. The deviled eggs actually had lots of substance to them and were very filling. The shrimp was very large and the cocktail sauce had a great flavor and kick to it. About the same time as the apps came out the complimentary bread had arrived and it was also very good. A different take on them as they were the size of donut holes. They had a great flavor and a fritter taste to them. My daughter states they tasted like fair/carnival donuts and she was thrilled. For our main course I got the ribeye cooked medium with a side of smoked Gouda Mac and cheese. My wife and daughter both got the New York strip and the wife got the one pound baked potatoes and my daughter the Mac and cheese as her side. The steaks were fabulous. Very tender and flavorful. Easily a top 5-10 steak in the city. My daughter said her Mac and cheese was the best Mac and cheese she has ever had. I did like the smoked Gouda factor but for me personally it had too many onions. But it was still good. My wife said the baked potatoes was very good. So we were very happy with the apps, entrees and sides. To make my daughters day even more special they brought her out a complimentary birthday cake and it was wonderful. Very smooth and creamy and flavorful. Rich but not overbearing rich. So a good combo. Overall we had a great experience. I see why this establishment is such a lauded and highly reputable steak house in the Louisville area. My 13 year old I believe had a memorable birthday here. She was very excited and on cloud nine with the food, service and experience. It made her feel like a rockstar. read more

This is such a gorgeous restaurant and the service and food proved to be just as amazing! All of the people who helped us were outrageously kind, especially our server. The drinks were unique and beautiful, and the food was some of the best I've had. I can't recommend the coffee steak enough. Everyone at my table ended up wishing they'd ordered it! Visited Stoney River last night for our anniversary. The service was excellent, Gustav was our server. Our food came out quickly and was always hot. The cocktail sauce for the shrimp cocktail sauce was the spiciest I have ever had so beware. We got the steak rolls which a previous review said tasted like beef stroganoff- I would have to agree. They were very tasty though! I had the steak au poivre and my husband had the salmon. He said the salmon was some of the best he has ever had. I added extra sides because I really wanted to try the creamed spinach which was very good. We got a complimentary piece of chocolate cake, but also ordered the crème brûlée. We went here for one of my sister's birthday. We have been here before several times and have loved it! Grant it. It's been a few years since we've been. We were looking forward to eating here again. It is a steakhouse, so the prices are a little steep. Expect to pay $18 for one crab cake. I remember them being a little pricey before, but with inflation, things have really spiked up. However, the price wasn't our issue. Our waiter William started out being nice and accommodating, then he gradually got worse. He started getting orders wrong, forgetting to bring out different things we ordered or requested. We asked for refills that came at the end of dinner, with a hint of an attitude. Even through that, we were calm and patient. Everything that we ordered was nasty. Not one of us liked our food, but we never told William because we didn't want to create a scene or appear as though we didn't want to pay for our food. It wasn't William's fault, after all. He didn't make the food. When it was time for us to get our checks, this is where things got a little escalated. He proceeds to say he can only check out 4 checks, not seven individual checks. I understand some establishments don't allow that, but it's something you know going in, or at least you should be made aware of this policy before you begin to order. I was going to share my check with my husband, but that left five people who could not split a check because of the ways they were paying. Side note: Not everyone has money to pay for two checks or have access to things like Zelle or Cash app, so I can totally understand from different perspectives. We asked for the manager. Even then, and while speaking to the manager, we remained calm. We never raised our voices, gotten an attitude or anything like that. We explained our situation to the manager. She told us the four ticket rule is enforced when they are busy (they were not that busy), but we told her we had no knowledge of that prior to trying to get our checks and it would've been helpful to know in advance. She understood, apologized, and said she would talk to William to get us squared away. He came back five minutes later without checks. I asked if the manager spoke with him. He said he hadn't seen her. I told him she said she would talk to him about our checks. He said okay and walked away. Another ten minutes later, he comes back with seven checks. We paid, and he's taking a while with our various forms of payment, talking about us with his colleagues. They kept looking at us and making faces at us in disgust. Meanwhile, we had done nothing to him, this restaurant, or them. We remained calm through this rude treatment, this disgusting food we paid too much for elementary school intimidation tactics. No, thank you, Stoney River. I will NOT be back! read more

The service was good, our waiter constantly checked on us and ensured our cups remained full - refills were automatic by both our server and staff walking around. The Spinach Dip was okay...there wasn't enough cheese when dipping into the dip with my chip - it was full bites of slimy spinach and faint tastings of cheese. Not their best but I think they're capable of better so I don't judge it. The Center Cut (Regular Cut) Filet Mignon was good but I asked for it to medium well and blackened. They season my filet HEAVILY to where it tasted like I was eating something very spicy. I'm used to light seasoning, nothing heavy so I had to take a break, my mouth was HOT. The Parmesan Fries were okay. I'm used to them being a bit crispier. They were soft and had a pretty full and fluffy texture but I, personally, like mine with a little crunch. Only problem i had and why i gave 4 stars is my sever was young and i told him specifically what i didnt want on my steak but he proceeded to do so anyway. I love this place. I've been here for dates and just a quick bite and the service is always great. I always snag the steak appetizer with the chimcurri. It's so delicious and usually fills me up. We had a party of 6 and a reservation at 4pm. We were seated on time and our waitress was super nice and knowledgeable. I got steak rolls as an appetizer and the ribeye cooked medium with broccoli. The steak rolls were delicious. My ribeye was cooked and seasoned very well. My sister had gotten a fillet cooked medium and it was overcooked. Our waitress was very understanding and accommodating as she took the fillet back and switched it to a ribeye. We shared a couple sides that included broccoli, garlic whipped potatoes, smoked Gouda Mac n Cheese, and Au Gratin Potatoes. You can't go wrong with any of these options. Went here for my sister's birthday, and not having been here before I wasn't sure what to expect. But its a fantastic place. The interior is very dark and sophisticated, the staff very pleasant and warm. We started off with the Steak Rolls (chimichurri, spicy ranch) - they were like a cheeseburger inside an eggroll! So delicious! For my entree I got the Filet oscar (Petite cut with lump crab, béarnaise and asparagus) and I got creamed spinach as the side. It was so rich I was barely able to finish the meat, the spinach was great but was left largely untouched. Then they gave her a piece of an amazing chocolate cake - and a card! What a nice touch. I'm not really sure what Stoney River is trying to accomplish. Are here for dinner and was thoroughly disappointed especially for how much it costs. The ambience was nice. The service was bad. Ordered an iced tea. Had to ask for refills. Even though I left my glass on the end of the table with a couple of dishes. Several Stoney River employees (including our waitress) walked by without taking them or saying anything. Finally someone that wasnt our waitress came to take the plates and I had to Inquire for a refill. At a place that seems to want to be a nice restaurant I don't believe I should have to ask. Got the chefs special. The steak was bleh. For $50 you can get an extremely good filet at a place like le moo. At Stoney River you get a meh filet medallion with not much taste. I haven't been to the Louisville J Alexander's but it's the same company and the one in Cool Springs is a 1000x better and it's cheaper. read more

First, the dining company was amazing and second, the food was incredible. The waiter was good; but considering the price point, being sat in a storage area/closet was not inviting. When Mosimo asked us at the beginning how things were, we informed him of the seating area. He seemed uninterested and did nothing to resolve the seating area. At the end of the meal, Paige, the Service Manager apologized but raised her voice and told us she would update our account for future dinning experiences. She also said people pay $1,000 to $4,000 for this particular room. This is not the way to resolve the issue. Both people seemed as if we were the problem and did not want to resolve the dinning area. Simply put, this appears as if it's a overflow area and/or storage. It had been awhile since I visited Stoney River, so I was looking forward to taking my team for our Holiday dinner to try it again. They definitely did not disappoint. For starters; A good selection of specialty cocktails as well as an extensive wine list. We chose Meiomi (one of my favorite pinots). On to the entrees...we all decided on the trio of filets which were cooked to perfection. Let's talk service. The staff is very attentive. Our glasses were always full, we had everything we needed at all times. Oh, and the carrot cake, oh my goodness! It's definitely enough to share. This is my first visit, and I could not have been happier. Our server was Christian and he was phenomenal. We started with the steak eggrolls I totally recommend. My wife had the prime rib and mac & cheese. It was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth the auju was on spot. The ribeye I ordered was seasoned and cooked to perfection. 10/10. The mushroom gravy was good but will pass on it next time as the steak would have gained nothing from it. The scalloped potatoes and Mac and cheese definitely a reorder for next time. We took home a piece of the carrot cake and will be eating on it for a few days. It was huge, moist and the best I have ever had. We got there about 45 minutes a head of our reservation time, got the only place left at the bar to have a drink. The bar was packed! With the two bartenders working the bar, you'd never know you weren't the only person there, their service was amazing, but especially for the amount of crowd they had here. I decided to go out to dinner for my Birthday and I selected Stoney River Steakhouse. When I arrived and was seated, I was sitting across from a fireplace and it was extremely hot. Not warm, but hot. The heat was unbearable, so I requested another table. Yes it was 72 degrees today. Once I was reseated, I ordered a bourbon drink (Draper), New York Strip (Pittsburgh seared) with Aug Gratin Potatoes. My entree arrived in a more than reasonable time frame and the food was hot. While the steak was delicious, the Aug Gratin Potatoes did not meet my expectations so I asked my server to replace them with the Whipped Potatoes. I LOVE brunch and I have been to quite a few in the city. A friend of mine mentioned that Stony River has brunch on the weekends. I am not sure if it is on Saturday and Sunday ( I didn't really see it advertised anywhere) but I know for sure brunch is on Sunday. The restaurant opens at 11a.m. And my friend and I had reservations. The brunch menu is pretty small with 7 items but you are able to order from the lunch menu also. They have a full service bar and can make breakfast cocktails like mimosas and bloody Mary's. There was not a mention of beverages on the brunch menu. I ordered the waffles with cherries with a side of scrambled eggs (no bacon). I was impressed with the size of the waffles. You get two thick Belgian waffles with creme and cherry sauce. It was good and I was definitely full from one waffle and took the other to go. My friend ordered the steak and biscuits with Parmesan fries. It all tasted very good. Stopped into Stoney River steakhouse for my birthday this year! We will start with the service! I had a party of 8 that got seated quickly and had a attentive waiter that did well taking our orders with a good attitude, so that gets a good start for me. The drink list had minimal options in my opinion and the wine list did not offer any type of red or white wine that was on the sweeter side. Also no moscato. This was disappointing as every steakhouse I've been too usually had these options. The steak, most important. We got the ribeye steak and au gratin potatoes. Fan freaking tastic. Potatoes were some of the best I've ever had in my life honestly and we will be back alone for those! Steak was cooked perfectly with a nice sized pat of butter atop the beef. I also appreciate the pricing not being sky rocket high and including a side is a win win for me! We also got the wedge salad to split and it was just "ok". I've had better wedge salads and did not come here for lettuce lol so it's all good. I will say salads are big enough to share! Got a free piece of decadent chocolate cake with a candle for my birthday so that made me feel special! Thanks for that! So my negative points for this experience would be limited drink list and they don't pack your left over food up for you like some nicer steakhouses ( could be covid-19 related so I get that ) Positive points include a killer steak and au gratin potato side, fair pricing, great portion sizes and a nicely put together restaurant that does not make you feel like you need to be over dressed! I met my dad here last night for apps and cocktails. We had a reservation so we only had a short wait to be seated (less than five minutes). It's somewhat dim in the restaurant and had kind of a romantic vibe. The complimentary bread with sweet (cinnamon?) butter was a nice touch. I enjoyed my cocktail (Angels revenge) and my vine ripened tomato salad. The steak rolls were my favorite thing that I tried! So much so that I got an order to go. Highly recommend. This was my first time visiting but I will definitely be back to explore more of the menu and try an entree. read more

Our server came around and went over the specials. I like restaurants that have specials- you can always get something new! My date has been here several times so I just asked that he order for us. Whatever they were, were tasty and I liked the sweet butter they were served with. But I wanted to save room for dinner. My next cocktail was the Draper. I don't like honey so I asked to omit that. It was delicious. For dinner, we shared the steakhouse burger w fries (yum) and the special, which was beef tenderloins and a crab cake w choice of side (sautéed mushrooms). Everything was delicious and cooked to the temperature we requested. We were so stuffed we had to take the majority of the burger home. I only took one bite of the burger just so I could taste it freshly made. The steak and crab cake we split in half but it was way too much food. For that reason, we opted against dessert. I was really surprised they did not serve me a scoop of ice cream with a candle for my birthday. They did not offer any birthday perk whatsoever. Strange. I guess in covid times restaurants are struggling so there is no free dessert? We didn't have any room for dessert but it seemed a little cheap that they didn't offer anything. I thought maybe the server forgot but when I spoke to some other people about it after dinner, they said they had the same experience there for their birthday. So I guess that's a Stoney River thing. This place is going to go down-hill FAST if they can't find some decent quality servers. I've been coming to Stoney river for YEARS & never have I ever experienced such off- the-wall rudeness here before. We came in on valentines night with a reservation we booked a month in advance. From the moment our server greeted us he was incredibly discourteous and irritated that we were even there. I get no one necessarily wants to work on valentines night but common that has nothing to do with us? He wasn't even somewhat nice up until he realized we were accidentally served potatoes instead of Mac & cheese, like we ordered (which also wasn't even a big deal to us). His attitude was SO abrasive, super off-putting/odd, and reallyyy set the tone for the night. We love Stoney river for the food & the bartenders have ALWAYS been so nice & welcoming every time we come in. Why is the diet coke sent from heaven ? I mean seriously, the have to have the perfect syrup to CO2 ratio. I tried the lobster bisque and was very happy with flavor which was not crazily fishy, but temperature was also perfect. I usually complain of it being too cold. I tried the steak and biscuits, I loved them but wish they came with a jam, glaze, or something else to help with the dryness the biscuits create in your mouth. My wife chose the ribeye at it came out perfectly rare, another win for the night. The butter and rolls that come out early make you shed tears for the rolls that have come before and failed. We've passed this place many times, glad to finally get in. Please make reservations for weekend, we did and had about a 35 min wait beyond. Really pleased overall with our dining experience.
