This place is fantastic! I've been going here maybe every 2 months, for about 3 years now. One of the staff members and her significant other has recently taken it over and you can absolutely tell the difference in the food. The food has always been very good, but now it has been great!! I ordered a burger last week and it came out a perfect medium rare, and had to have been at least 1/2 a pound.

I was invited her for my cousin's birthday dinner. I was skeptical considering the reviews, but figured I'd keep my order super simple to avoid disappointment. * * SNEAKY DRAGON - Super duper sweet, even for me...and I have a major sweet tooth. Even the melted ice didn't help. BACON MOZZARELLA CHICKEN SANDWICH w/CAESAR SALAD (instead of French fries... look at me, being all healthy and what-not!) - The sandwich was just OK. The salad was good, just waaaay too much dressing (I forgot to ask for dressing on the side.) Would order again. OLD BAY WINGS - My cousin shared a couple of wings. Very lightly seasoned, but good. Would order again. We were part of a large party and were seated in a private area away from the other diners in the restaurant. The service was friendly and given with a smile. Thankfully everyone enjoyed their orders. Apparently, the chocolate lava cake was a hit. (It looked good, but I didn't try any...) __ I eat. @f.hux I thrift. @DCthriftish

Very SMALL $42 crab cake sandwich with small serving of coleslaw. Very good, but extremely overpriced.

I feel really badly about making this review because I use to love this place and ate here often when I lived in Maryland. However, I was disgusted with the fact that they charged me $42 for a very small crab cake sandwich with a little tiny serving of coleslaw. The crab cake taste good, but it was REALLY small and definitely NOT worth $42!

Came here while visiting family over the Thanksgiving holiday and I was in search of crab legs. The place is in a busy strip mall and the decor is dark and outdated, but the bar area seemed to be filled with regulars having a good time and it was a large place with ample seating. We were seated quickly and the service was great. To start off, We had a mixed drink that was very tasty (the sneaky dragon) and the fried rockfish bites which we enjoyed. The seafood platter was delicious! Hot and fresh. The crab ball was so good, loved the shrimp, too. But the Old Bay fries were amazinggggg I could have eaten a million of them. The only thing on the platter that we didn't like as much was the fried scallop. The breading fell off because it was wet and it was very chewy/rubbery. The snow crab was amazing and I finally got my steamed crab leg fix on this trip!

Three appetizers, two drinks, two beers, two pieces of Keylime pie and the check was $160. Where do you think you are? Tysons Corner or Loudoun County? You are in the wrong area to be charging that much for the portions size. Now I see why the place is empty on oyster day.

My wife ordered the fried shrimp basket, and I had the soft-shell crab dinner. We also ordered a cup of cream of crab soup. The soup looked great when it came out, with a good amount of crab meat on top, and it was very good. I would definitely order it again. Our dinners looked excellent when they arrived. I was disappointed, though, that the fried shrimp were frozen, breaded shrimp. I expected fresh, battered and fried shrimp, especially at a seafood restaurant. My soft-shell crabs, on the other hand, were lightly battered and fried and were excellent. The homemade potato salad was also one of the best I've ever had. They also had homemade bread pudding for dessert, which was a nice touch. Overall, we were a little disappointed with the shrimp, but there were definitely some things we really enjoyed. The restaurant itself is an older place and could use a little cleaning and updating. I think if they brought in some fresh seafood dishes and new specials, while keeping the homemade sides they already offer, this place could really do some business. I remember growing up when the restaurants here in Benedict were packed all the time and known for excellent food. I'd love to see Ray's Pier bring some of that excitement back. Fresh seafood, some new specials, and getting the word out could really make a difference.

There is parking conveniently located near the restaurant, so you don't have to worry about finding street parking. The restaurant was very clean and offered indoor and outdoor seating, along with an indoor bar area. There is also an ATM on-site. I looked at the menu ahead of time and already knew I wanted the Ultimate Seafood Platter, mainly because it included a crab cake. We also ordered oysters as an appetizer, and they were absolutely delicious and incredibly fresh. Hands down, this was some of the best seafood I've had from a restaurant in a long time. The scallops were plump and juicy, and the fish portion was very generous. I'm usually nervous when a crab cake is included as part of a platter because I expect something small or previously frozen. That was definitely not the case here. The crab cake was a great size and tasted fresh. They offer a traditional version and an "angry" version. I ordered the angry crab cake, and it was seasoned to perfection. The other person with me ordered the seafood pasta, and it was just as impressive. The Alfredo sauce was delicious, with plump scallops, juicy shrimp, and a generous portion of pasta. It also came with amazing rustic, buttery toasted bread. The waitstaff was great, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the waterfront view made the experience even better. We were happily greeted in and seated. They weren't too busy on this Sunday evening. For apps we decided on the crab guacamole, peel and eat shrimp, and the fried trio- Oysters/Calamari/Shrimp that came with marinara and a roumalade. I noticed a Chipotle sauce that came with another shrimp dish and asked for that instead. The chips were fresh and tasty. Guac was also good the crab sat on top the guac. Peel and eat shrimp well seasoned with old bay. The fried trio was amazing as well. Everything perfectly fried and the Chipotle sauce delicious! For mains we went with the Chilean sea bass and lobster special. Fish and lobster was well prepared in a creamy sauce on top of mashed potatoes. Delicious and the potatoes were plentiful. We also tried the Chef's Ocean Elegance - Seared scallops and crab stuffed shrimp on top of garlic mashed potatoes topped with green onion and mushrooms in a lemon caper sauce. We were unfortunately served the branzino topped with only the Chilean garlic sauce and not the lemon caper sauce at all. The server wasn't seeming to know what to do with our dissatisfied reaction, so we decided to salvage the fish and ordered the lemon caper on the side, it tasted bland at best. Fish was fine, but unfortunately there was nothing worth mentioning positively about it for its $37 price point. *Neither sauce was worth ordering and unfortunately neither tasted how they were described, more like plain aioli. In our ignorance, we didn't realize branzino meant the whole fish would be served versus a filet. It would have been nice to have been able to read that fact on the menu prior to ordering. We ordered the truffle fries, which had probably zero amounts of truffle on them. Overcooked. We ordered the tropical mojito mocktail, and it was either poorly made or the recipe could use a complete reset. The crab stuffed mushrooms and sauce, amazing. Server, kind. We were asking quite a few questions of him, trying to decide between the Chilean with lobster or the branzino, which showed our ignorance in the fish choices, I believe. A good server would have picked up on this, and went into a much more detailed explanation of both dishes to educate and inform us on making the right decision. So I think it's pretty accurate to say that a good majority of the problems we had could have been salvaged had he been a little more seasoned at reading the individual needs of his customers. Although, with ordering either of these entrees or the truffle fries, we would have been disappointed as the flavor was just not there. Being out of towners used to seafood from California, we were excited to try a new place on the east coast. I read multiple positive reviews from other customers, and unfortunately we are leaving disappointed in the $80 spent. We joked that perhaps the usual chef called in sick and the bus boy took his place. Underwhelming. Overcooked. Bland. But, they had pretty tables.
