We've been using Stor-it Self Storage in Marina del Rey for over ten years. The building is always clean and well cared for and there is easy access off of Del Rey. This is my first time using a storage unit as I've never needed one. I called a few places, all pretty standard. And then I called Stor-It and spoke with Preston, who runs the place with his wife Kim who they call "Purple." I was honestly blown away by how something as boring and generic as.. storage could feel like a place I wanted to be a part of. I use the unit for storage for my clothing company and have to come in and out quite often. If I see Preston or Kim on my way in/out, I am greeted by name. Customer service is key and while I didn't think I needed it from a storage unit, I am so delighted by these people. I could not recommend more. TOP NOTCH PLACE!! I searched and searched around the Venice/Marina Del Rey area for a good place to store my things for up to 5 months and this place by far exceeded all the rest. DO NOT RENT STORAGE FROM HERE. I have rented storage space several times. Enough times to know that many places will offer you a free month's rent. I found a place close to my home that offered a free months rent and where I was able to sign up for this online for the convenience (Marina Stor It Self Storage). They happily agreed to this as I paid them my first months rent and had the movers move me into the space... and low and behold a month and a half later I have a pre lien notice for not paying rent. When asked, they laughed it off and said that they don't really give free month's rent out! Yep. It's absolutely disguising that people do business like this. I must say that I am satisfied with this self storage. I have been been to other self storage and this one is different than the rest. I was created and felt warm welcomed which was a great feeling to have during the stressful time of the year. I was treated and taken care of 100% and they made sure that all my needs were met and that I understood every detail that was being explained to me. Ah Rats! Well it was nice until we discovered rat shit and urine in must of our boxes. They seemed to have had a great time going from one box to the next, chewing on plastic, wax candles, my expensive wool coat :-( and shoes, we didn't store food items. We had a couch they liked a lot, seemed to be a nesting area for them, they seem to have a ball in just living in the boxes and chewing on things that don't seem very tasty, and shitting, and shitting and shitting on and in everything. It has been a very gross clean up process, rat urine smells so disgusting and it's heartbreaking (and expensive) at some of the things we lost. read more

Two significant price increases only 6 months apart. I pay my bill 6 months ahead and despite this they wanted me to pay the new rate before it actually went into effect when I was paying the next 6 months ahead. I found the exact same storage size: only a block away for $200 less a month. I really don't like moving but I don't have a choice. This place is ok if you lock in for 6 months and you're only staying a short time. Expect big increases if you stay longer time as other people have experienced and wrote here. there was also water damage on the bottom of many of the boxes I stored and I had to re box them before moving. read more

Stay away from this lying place!!! This is my first negative review on yelp, that's how compelled I feel to write one. I have never experienced anything like this...I moved in 3 month ago, have -$46 off every month on my contract (with no expiration date), and they just charged my card a higher amount without notice after the 2nd month. I called and I emailed Corporate, and no one is calling me back...the people that rented me the unit are conveniently "no longer with the company", and the office keeps telling me that "it was a 2 month discount"...my husband was there with me,and I have a contract...where does it say that?..people in the office are changing every other day...what kind of company is that...?. I now think they just change all their staff every few months, make them lie to customers to sign up, and then fire then...and raise people's rent right after... Well, I'm going to file with BBB tomorrow,and go to small claims court...if any of you would like to join my suit, please contact me ASAP read more

I agree with others Wendy and her husband are very friendly and helpful. If you have a short term need you will like them. But for me wanting to have a long term storage unit the increasing fee feels too much like bait and switch. To my fault, I've not call to see the offered price if you had the same unit and moved in, So it's not fare of me to say that's what has occurred. The fact is I like to prepay a year at a time. I'm no longer going to pay a year rather month by month. I've been here 2 years and they have raised me 2 or 3 times. I have to look at my contract. The rate has gone up over 25% for a small unit. I' rather have a long term relationship with a company, where they see a value to keeping good customer. read more

This place is amature hour. We reserved a storage unit and a truck for our big move. When we got there first thing in the morning, the manager said she reserved the truck for someone else... AFTER we already met with her and reserved it a few days before. We had to scramble to find a replacement truck... and yes, a more professional storage facility. We knew we couldn't trust this place when they said rent increases are "random". The guy working there said this place isn't climate controlled. Also, they don't use cylinder locks which can increase the risk of a break in. The female manager is clueless and this place is a dump. They probably did us a favor because we're in a much better facility. read more

I rented here for about 16 months and had several negative experiences. The management and staff clearly do not care about customer service and I think this stems from the poor upkeep and overall lack of security at the facility. It seems no one cares at all and they are letting everything deteriorate. The units have flimsy plywood doors, held only by a lock, there is no elevator, only a freight lift that is manually operated, and the carts owned by the facility are rickety and in poor condition. The gate access times to the unit are very limited as well. The pricing is low to start but within a few months they had increased my rent by $10, then a year later an additional $30 per month!! I wrote to them and called to talk about gradually increasing since this is a huge jump (and I didn't want to have to move out, even though I knew it was a crappy facility) and no one got back to me. So I decided to move out and on that day, a large intoxicated homeless man was loitering in the supposedly secure storage unit area, walking around the hall with a stick and mumbling to himself. I felt very uncomfortable as it was clear he was not a customer and should not have gotten through the gate. I could go on and on but bottom line-- don't even bother because you are not getting a good deal and the facility is not very secure!! read more

My last review the owners responded stating I must be mistaken them for another storage place. I AM NOT MISTAKEN. THIS IS THE CORRECT PLACE. Yes there were cockroaches. They state they spray prior to moving in. SO WHAT. Cockroaches come in from other peoples stuff and they got into my storage unit. They also say they cannot idenify me. My billing and how it was paid is different than my actual location. If they knew my location they would probably retaliate. AGAIN THEY WERE DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH. PRICING WAS DIFFERENT, AND THEIR BILLING IS VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO TREAT PEOPLE. COCKROACHES! I moved to a different storage place. read more

This place is fine if you don't mind rate increases or you're certain you will be out in less than 3 months.... However, if you think the rate they give you will last for a year, think again. Read the fine print and be prepared for increased rates above and beyond the ones they discuss with you. In other words, you might know about a 3 month discount and plan for the rate going up in 3 months. But plan for it to go up again 2 months after the increase you were aware of. Raised rent 3 times, rude manager, and completely unsympathetic customer relations. They even locked my unit with their lock claiming I was late (which I wasn't and could prove it to them) and I barley got an apology. I wanted to complain to the owner/manager and there's nothing but a 800 number. I called and of course there was no response to my inquiry with them. AVOID THESE INSINCERE CREEPS. They want your money - and could care less about anything else. Also, it is worth noting that upon moving out I discovered rodent feces in the unit. They denied it of course. It's probably lint, was the response. Right... sticky little black cylinders of lint along the wall. And I thought the only rats there were the ones behind the desk. read more

After downsizing from a three bedroom house into a one bedroom condo, I stored the excess stuff at Stor-It and have been slowly selling the contents on Craigslist. The site is very conveniently located on a quiet side-street next to Lincoln Blvd. Loading/unloading is convenient and they have good gate and office hours. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. The downside is that the units are a bit pricier because we're in Marina del Rey. I pay $378/ month for a 10x15 with full width roll-up door. They do offer move-in specials. read more

My move to LA from Chicago was stressful and had so many disappointments but surprisingly the one silver lining was working with friendly and accommodating people at the Stor-It Self Storage in Marine Del Rey. I had never rented a unit before, and especially not from out of state. From the first time I called and spoke with the young lady to inquire about the units from the time that I started moving items in, the entire experience was very low stress because of the team of people who worked at this Stor-it Self Storage. During my initial call, the young lady on the phone was very helpful and friendly when explaining the options and helped me to reserve a storage unit. I believe this is a family operated storage place. Once I arrived in LA, the husband and wife team were very gracious, patient and helpful. Everything was explained to me and I had a easy time going back and forth to the unit to drop off items and move out items as I had not yet found a permanent home yet. The units are as clean as you would expect for a storage unit, but the people who work here really made the difference. I appreciate their patience and genuine care during that stressful time. read more

This is really hands down the best storage experience ever! I've had all my possessions in storage here for the past 1 1/2 years. So why is this place so great? 1) It's family owned so you know you are not paying some BIG evil corporation in some other state. 2) They are EXTREMELY friendly! Its surreal! 3) The facilities are well-organized & CLEAN! The reasons they don't get 5 stars are: 1) I wish they had longer gate hours especially on weekends. In the past I've had to turn around after getting there 20-30 minutes after gate hours which is I think 6pm on Sundays. 2) I wish they would do partial month rent like other places do.I contacted them to see if they would accept partial rent for the month since I'll be moving out half way in but they don't do that. Oh well! Not a big issue but I think its important for Customer Service. 3) I wish they would offer a free truck for move out too just like they do for move in. :) read more

I shopped around for a storage place in Venice and Santa Monica and was very impressed by these guys. They had great prices (a really good deal) but more importantly they were the type of people you want to do business with. They run it like it's family owned. Very nice when I spoke to them on the phone, emailed me quotes and followed up with great service in person. They also have a truck on the property that you can use for moving (at a fee smaller than U-haul and the other guys. I have already recommended to friends. I can't say enough good things about this company. I was able to move in and out with ease, the front desk staff was friendly, easy to work with, went out of their way to be helpful. I've had to go back and forth several times to add additional items to my storage unit and each time it's been easy and efficient. I would say two things to take note of: #1. this is not a 24hr facility, and therefore you cannot access your stuff after 7pm. #2. If you have a LOT of stuff, and you have a second floor storage unit, the move in could be a bit more challenging. The elevator is a bit archaic and slow. read more
