My 2 y/o daughter loves the cream cheese and mini muffins. The restaurant doesn't look big until you come in. There's takeout section for to-go orders. I've seen this place for years now. I'm no New Yorker-- I'm an Angeleno--and grew up with the iconic Canter's Deli as a family favorite. We've tried other delis n the area and have been let down. Even though it was breakfast time, my daughter and I ordered Reubens with fries and macaroni salad. We got in just before the morning rush. Our waitress was so kind despite the increasing traffic. Watching all of the staff work together, quickly and efficiently, was a marvel. When I first sat down, I thought our table was a bit sticky. Our waitress took the time to wipe it off, and explained with kindness that it was the finish. She was right. So, if you go there, they are constantly wiping things down. Now, onto the star of the show. The Reuben. I can't even believe I'm going to write this. When we go to visit Los Angeles again, I seriously doubt we'll stop by Canter's. In fact, we'll bring out-of-town guests here. The corned beef was cooked to absolute mouthwatering perfection. This is one of the better (best) delis in this area and maybe even in the county. They serve breakfast for lunch as well. It's not cheap but portions are huge and I don't ever remember ever coming here without taking some leftovers home. Comp to the table is a bowl with both half sour pickles (my faves) and garlicky filled ones (the hubby) plus red pickled peppers (say that three times!), pickled tomatoes and sauerkraut! We came for lunch today. I had their half sandwich and cup of soup. Chose their mushroom barley -- a small bowl, it was very thick with pieces of celery and carrots -- but I could have used a few more mushrooms. It comes with saltines.Took half of that home. For my sandwich part I had their turkey pastrami on rye. I've never had that there before so think I was expecting a fake pastrami made from turkey. Instead it was turkey made in the style of pastrami! I liked it -- in fact for those that don't eat beef this is a good alternative . The half sandwich was so big, I took half the meat off of it. Their rue bread is wonderfully fresh -- crusty outside; soft center. True rye. It also came with a mound of macaroni salad which was very very good. You can also choose coleslaw or another side if u prefer. My husband had a tuna salad platter -- a scoop of tuna on a bed of lettuce with black olives, red and green pepper slices, tomato slices, cuke slices, a huge scallion, pepperoncini and pickled carrots and a side of coleslaw or macaroni plus his choice of an everything bagel. The plate was huge! He had half of it later for dinner... The only disappointment for him? They were out of dr browns celray ;( Service was fast and professional -- these servers have been around quite a while. Came here today to have lunch with family, had nothing that we wanted. They were out of potato knishes, no quiche, and the portions of food that were given were small despite the price. My daughter and wife ordered quiche and knishes which are on the menu, then were told they were out of knishes. My wife was fine with that. A few minutes later they were told that they were also out of quiche. My daughter ended up not ordering or eating because of this. They're the first I know of with low fat veggie cream cheese, loaded with fresh veggies and delicious, as is the everything cream cheese. I really hate to be that guy, and I really wanted to like this place because the food is good, but it's customer service 101: if there's something non-food that ends up in your mouth that the kitchen prepared, it's courtesy to comp, if not at least discount the guest's meal. I was having a great breakfast, but as I was chewing into my awesome corn beef, I felt this strand in my mouth: my first instinct was that hair ended up in my food. As I pulled it out of my mouth, it did have a hair-like quality to it, but the server, who was apologetic, clarified that it was fiber from their towels. While it wasn't hair, it was from a towel (whether if it was a clean towel or a used towel is the question), but it didn't make me feel any better nor did it return my appetite. Our server, Cindy, offered us Christmas cookies which I suspect was going to be trashed anyway, as a way to show remorse. And when I get the bill, not even a courtesy discount? Seriously? This is very disappointing. I paid the bill in full, and ensures that Cindy received a great tip, because, despite the kitchen's failing and restaurant management being inept to such a failure, Cindy made this holiday-breakfast-with-the-family-turned-sour (pun intended) into a wonderful experience. She was apologetic and empathetic, and truly exemplified hospitality. Please do better by your guests, your standards, and ensure your service mirrors that of Cindy's. read more

Ok , my first time here. It's just around the corner. It was about 12:30 when we arrived the place was crowded. All in all the wait wasn't so bad. About 20 minutes like the lovely hostess said it would be. After seating, we were greeted by our waitress. She had it tough with 5 tables with 4 people each and the 2 of us all at the same time. Our coffee was brought but they had a tough time getting us flatware. So we were brought plastic. I ordered a Greek salad which came super quick. Sadly the way the cucumbers and tomato's came chopped super fine. I figure about 2 tablespoons of cucumber and 1tablespoon of tomato. There were plenty of Kalamata Olive with pits and lots of romaine 2 grape leaves stuffed and 2 pepperchini peppers not enough feta cheese for the description of their Greek salad ...my dressing never came. Underwhelming at $15.50. My wife ordered 2 eggs over medium ( over easy at best)and a pint of grits lol. She got a bialy perfectly toasted. It was served with butter and cream cheese. We ordered two coffees with cream which came in a juice cup. The coffee was so so at a higher price range than Starbucks. $8.70. My best guess was that the back of the house couldn't wash dishes quick enough for the amount of customers they had. The kitchen didn't have any major issues with our order. For the above described order the bill was over $40.00 with tax and tip. So so. Not going back. read more

To day was St Patrick's Day. I ordered to take out a corned beef on rye with mustard on the side and a side of potato salad. The sandwich was approximately $14. The meat was inedibl- 1/2 lb of grizzle and fat served on wet rye with Russian dressing. disappointment was an understatement. I truly felt like the people who made the sandwich could give a rat's ass about what they served the public. As I walk into the front door, I wait around 5 minutes to be greeted by a very nice hostess that says the servers told her to NOT seat us for 5 minutes because she's busy. Okay, time goes by, we sit down and after an additional 5 minutes of waiting the server comes to the table and says, "It's going to be some time until I'm not busy." So since I have to wait another 5 minutes after waiting 15, I notice there's only 15 tables and 5 servers... When we tell the OWNER that this nonsense is going on in her establishment, she walks away blurting one sentence, "I'll take care of it. " Okay, so we get our food in the Togo line nstead, all I ordered was BEC...there was no cheese. So make sure u check ur Togo orders before u leave . As a paying customer for 10 years, coming back after being gone for 5 years, they have lost me, my family, and all of my friends and every single person I talk to will never go to Strathmore. Poor customer service from the servers AND OWNER...will be taking my business to Brooklyn Water Bagel from now on. At least they teach the owners how to treat guests properly . read more

Well, make sure you bring a healthy appetite when you come here! My friend & I stopped here before shopping for some omelets! I forgot to plug in my phone the night before, so I apologize for not taking pictures!! The omelets are huge, they fill the plate. We each were only able to finish half. You get a choice of side, fresh sliced tomato, grits, oatmeal, or home fries. You also get a bagel or toast! Everything was delicious. I got the tomato which was very fresh & my friend got the home fries, which were large chunks of potatoes cooked golden brown! The toasted bagels were also perfect! To drink I ordered an unsweetened ice tea with extra lemon. The cup was huge & the server brought me three huge slices of lemon. I had enough left over to take a to go cup shopping! I waited a full week before posting this review. I sent 2 notes to the Strathmore Bagels sharing my negative experience, but they never responded. Suggested to friends to have a brunch last Sunday morning. We have been enjoying the spot for years. So my friend and I ordered a fish platter for 2 which looked wonderful on the menu. Although it was expensive $47 for the platter we were in the mood for lox, white fish and bagels. What came out was a huge platter of vegetables with enough lox for 1 person and enough white fish for 1 person. We were sure the nice waitress made a mistake or the kitchen had to have made an error. We questioned her and she said, " it's weighed out " and that's what you get. What a rip off ! The fact that I took the time to write twice to voice my poor experience and received no response is shocking and shows me the owner just doesn't care anymore. We live in a new community on Lyons road and most of the talk in the pool is about places to eat and our health issues. What a shame, we will never return and I will make sure to share my poor experience with my friends and neighbors. read more

This has been our go-to weekend breakfast joint since we recently moved to the area. I think I've eaten more everything bagels from here in the last 9 months than I've eaten in my whole life. They have the seasoning on both sides of the bagel which is important to me, lol. The dining room side many times does have a wait time because it's popular. However, the service is extremely quick on the dining room side, even when they are slammed! I've never gotten impatient about the wait time after ordering. The portions are massive! My husband always orders the omelette and ends up having to pack up half of it for a snack later on. There's nothing bad on the menu. The deli/to-go side of the restaurant is a bit hectic. So my family and I have been coming to Strathmore Bagels for a few years now. We've never had a bad meal yet. The service, on the other hand, hasn't always been the greatest. Sometimes they seem a little grumpy but sometimes they are super nice. They are open everyday for breakfast and lunch, no dinner. Many times we have to wait for a table but it's never too long. The food, like I said, has always been fantastic. My favorites are the Chicken Soup with a Matzoh Ball or, as I got today, the Classic Corner Nova with an Everything Bagel double toasted. I also ask for capers because it doesn't come with it. Oh, and let me not forget about the coffee! I'm not sure what kind of coffee they brew but I love it! Place serves a decent breakfast and that was my intention today, but upon seeing the Rueben I decided otherwise. I ordered the Rueben. It comes out in all its glory and I'm excited! It's a nice looking sandwich with tons of fries and coke slaw. Ok, yeah! Lets chow! I'm hungry! I bite into it and the corned beef is dry! It's plentiful but dry. Bummer. Rye well toasted. Sauerkraut wonderful. Not enough thousand islands dressing. Even though I was somewhat disappointed in the corn beef, I thought the meal was good bang for the buck! First time to Strathmore Bagels. Bagels were good. Bialy too doughy. Fruit cup was fresh and generous. Fried eggs ordered as medium-well came out liquid. A vegetable omelette was sad. (They cook a giant sheet of eggs and throw gray tasteless boiled peppers and onions on top before they fold it.) The complimentary mini muffin on each plate was a nice touch, but it was dry and nobody wanted more than a bite. Looking at other tables, the portions were big and the wait staff congenial. Found out about this place through our neighbors, (who are Jewish), had a holiday, and invited us to break fast with them. They had these amazing bagels, and lox, and capers, and veggie cheese, and plain cheese, and, and, and. It was all amazing!! Naturally, I wanted to try it for myself in the restaurant. So..... here goes. The restaurants' decor was very nice and warm. They have a deli, and little store which was a nice surprise. They have tables outside, but don't serve outside. So, if you really wanted to dine "al fresco" you could just take it to go, and sit there. However, when I went on a weekend the place was crazy, and the tables were all taken by people waiting for inside seating. The wait was about 25 minutes to half hour, which wasn't surprising considering the amount of people. When we finally got a table, they took our drink orders right away and out came The most amazing cup of coffee ever!! What is this sweet nectar that's been absent my entire life?? I will be back for just the coffee alone!! The food, it wasn't like what I was expecting. I ordered a whitefish classic corner that comes with a bagel tomatoes cucumber onions and plain cheese. I think I ordered wrong, because I guess I was expecting it to be like all assembled either in a open faced "sandwich" or a whitefish salad. Instead what I got were components to let me build my own sandwich, and a slab of fish. So, now I had to do the work. I guess I ordered wrong, but the more I looked around, it seemed all was being served deconstructed. I guess if that's what you're used to, that's fine, but it's not what I'm used to. My husband had a nova lox Benedict on bagel, and he said he preferred Toojays. I would have to second his emotion. I don't want to have to touch onions by separating rings, and bring out fish from skin etc. I left with smelly hands despite washing them. This place is my favorite for their bagels and ranbow Italian cookies. I'm from New York and these are the closest to NY bagels I've found in FL! Four and a half stars for the food and two stars for the service. We stopped by early on a Saturday morning and the hostess wasn't at the stand, no problem. So we waited. And waited. A waitress walked up just as three men walked in behind us. I'm assuming they were regulars and the waitress greeted them and asked them, (not us, the men behind us), where they wanted to sit. They said in her section. She finally looked at us and said, "you guys, sit over there," as she pointed to an empty booth, not even bothering to hand us menus. Ok. As we were sitting down, she led the three men to their seat, and gave them menus. Ok. We waited maybe five more minutes for menus. Our waitress did a little better in the middle, but as they got busier at the end, it took forever to pay the check. Our food did come out in a timely fashion, and they gave us a carafe, so we didn't have to wait for coffee refills. The food. The bagels were fantastic. I had a bagel sandwich with sausage and cheese, and my husband had a bacon, egg, and cheese. Both were great. The eggs were real, yay, and everything was fresh. My son had a toasted garlic bagel with cream cheese, again, awesome. Some of the best bagels I have ever had. I found nothing special about the coffee, but nothing terrible, either.
