So a few months back, I discovered that they still had a couple of Straw Hat Pizzas in the LAish area. Next time I was out in LA, I was going to hit one up. This weekend I did! Quick Backstory first.............. Straw Hat was THE spot for pizza parties when we were growing up. We would go to the one on Sepulveda in Manhattan Beach. So many good times were had, there. Really good childhood memories from baseball, soccer, birthday parties etc. Anyways......I came down to this one in Cerritos this weekend. I ordered my pizza online. I went with a pepperoni/garlic. They had a 2 topping large for $21.99. After tax and tip it was like $28.00. How was it? Pretty good. Not as good as I had remembered, but still solid pizza. Its "CA Style" pizza, similar to Round Table (I like Round Table a bit better, honestly). Thin dough/crust, sauce/toppings all the way to the edge. I requested it "well done" in the comments on the online order, but I don't think it was. I would have preferred it a bit more charred. Still, it scratched and itch and brought back all those good memories. Glad to see that Straw Hat is still around! read more

My new series of eating my way thru MY City of Cerritos Ca. I for the first time came to StrawHat Pizza in Cerritos off of South Street. I was pleasantly surprised at how big it is inside with big screen TVs, a play area for the kids and plenty of tables with chairs and booths. I ordered an individual pepperoni pizza for lunch and had an ice cold beer. They have about 13 beers on tap. The service was quick and very friendly, and the pizza was delicious I can definitely see families spending time here, but also couples, girls lunch, and definitely orders to go! I came here with my mom on a Tuesday as she said she liked this place with her friends. They said they enjoyed their "Classic Veggie" pizza. For us, we got their "The Works" pizza in a large ($18) and it was great! The dough wasn't overly thick or burnt. The pizza had a good amount of tomato sauce and all its toppings. Even re-heating it in the microwave tasted great compared to take out pizza places like Little Caesar's. Pizza tasted fresh and piping hot. On Tuesday's, they give 40% off on their pizzas which was cool. We got takeout but the service was welcoming and friendly. My siblings and I were in the area and decided to try out Straw Hat pizza. We came in on a Monday afternoon, but after looking over the special, the best day to come is definitely Tuesday because there are a lot of specials on that day! The inside has an old school Shakey's/Pizza Hut vibe to it that made me nostalgic. The customer service was great, too. Other than the girl who took our order, everyone was very friendly and helpful. We ordered pizza, an appetizer sampler and a sandwich. The pizza is by far the best part of this place. The wings were really tasty, but kind of small. This was next to another place I came to try that happened to be closed. So I came here instead. The pizza is nice and cheesy with a perfect thinnest to the crust. Only thing I didn't really like was the crust was slightly chewy but still really good. Just got basic pepperoni and it was great. Theres a lot of indoor seating to choose from, but there was a lot of kids running around, which we didn't really expect, so it was sort of loud and lively. I saw this place when I was taking a walk waiting for an appointment and had to try it. I wasn't that hungry but I had heard that they have very thin pizzas and fresh toppings. The place has many arcade machines and game machines to use while waiting or if you have kids to entertain them if you are dining in. Very Cool!! Great ambiance and quick service. I got an individual pizza with ham mushrooms and bacon. They had lunch specials including salad and a drink for the same as I paid for just the individual...however they never recommended that so I just got the pizza and a side of ranch. Pretty good pizza with classic pizzeria ambiance. The fact that a kids soccer team was celebrating the end of their season there really played that up lol. It was like a movie. Found an open booth in back to enjoy a medium pineapple pizza with my son. The booth upholstery has clearly seen some things. If this restaurant were a movie set, they would win an Oscar for the details. The pizza came out hot and fairly quickly after paying. I appreciate that you can see them roll the dough and make your pizza from the open kitchen next to the register. One gripe is that since the pandemic pizzerias have been less generous with peppers and Parmesan. The service was really bad. The workers didn't even greet you when you walked in. They definitely need better utensils. The plates are not cutting it. Better plates. Once we got our food, the worker just seemed like they didnt want to work there at all. Kind of threw our pizzas on the table and didn't even say "enjoy your food" or anything. The ambience was horrible. They didn't even check up on us asking if everything was ok. We asked them for 3 boxes for our X Large pizzas and sides leftovers and they said "we can only give you 2" and they gave us small boxes that didn't fit most of the food. Nice place kinds reminds me of another place pizza place I favor. It had families inside with big screen going and a family ambiance. I went to the counter and told the employee of the time frame Grub hub had put. He looked and whats the see my order was read a 1/2 hour earlier then Grub hub pick up time.
