I am a little obsessed with the BBQ Chicken Pizza sans the chicken. The pizza is fabulous and the staff is wonderful. The thin crust pizza is baked to perfection. The bbq sauce is tangy and not over done. The best part is their willingness to accommodate your toppings. 5 stars for the nostalgic experience. The pizza parlor took me back into the 80s and the pizza didn't disappoint. Toppings were generous and there was a definite cheese pull when I took a bite out of my hot slice pizza. I ordered The Works with a side of fries and I can say the pizza was solid with crispy crust and the fries were nicely flavored. I would drive the distance to revisit this place again. People at this location were the sweetest and hard working that I've seen. They're happy to serve you and always provide a nice yum treat. The vibe is a usual traditional pizza place. Photos of pop culture, history, cool images. It's somewhat small but can happily fit a good amount of groups and parties in there. Th food was very fresh and hot coming from the kitchen. I could smell the flavour of tomato on the spaghetti, the bread sticks and wings were nice. It's was okay. We stopped for lunch on a Sunday. Wasn't very busy at all. Cold in the restaurant. We shared a pizza. Not much special to report. It was okay at best. Crispy on top, the sausage was very strong flavor. Service was ok. They drop your pizza off when it's done. There were some okay decorations around. Only 1 tv on. Game room wasn't on. I've been coming to Straw Hat Pizza for years and love the fact that we have one nearby. They're know n for their classic light California crust and fresh ingredients. Not a lot of choices for pizza delivery in HMB so when I ran across this place, I was pleasantly surprised. The pizza always show up early and super hot. My favorite is the CA veggie with this yummy white sauce and lots of fresh veggies! Price is decent too and the drivers are always friendly. Unless you want to spend an exorbitant amount of money for a mezza mezza pizza that arrives cold and late I would highly recommend going somewhere else. We are locals and will never go here again. I was hoping to find a local pizza delivery that was halfway decent. Sadly this did not hit any expectations. The pizza wasn't great and it cost over $32 for a large with just a couple of toppings. If this was a specialty pizza with quality ingredients, not a chain restaurant, I could understand spending that much on one pizza but this was not that place. i may be biased because this place gives me nostalgia but i love this pizza location! i come here every time i visit half moon bay and they never disappoint. this time around we ordered a hawaiian pizza and got the free garlic twists for the check in. the 6 free garlic twists is such a steal!!! it's so much food as a complimentary item for a check in! not only that, they tasted so good! super cheesy and the bread was fresh and soft. the pizza itself is nothing spectacular, but nothing to be mad about. pretty average pizza but i can say i've never been disappointed coming here and i will continue to come here every time i visit HMB read more

Being italian & growing up with my parents owning 2 pizzerias, the pizza here is not bad... its fairly decent, just not amazing. But MAN! The owners of this place are very very stingy, and do as much as possible to save pennies, even thought it will probably lose them more than pennies in the long run since it feels almost insulting and will shy people from returning. We ordered a medium pizza for pickup... they dont like giving plates, or EVEN CHEESE & PEPPERS or anything!! When we asked for cheese & peppers the lady just said "ITS IN THE BOX" .... I was like ok.... didnt bother to check. I got home, opened the box... and ONE small cheese packet & ONE small pepper packet is tucked behind one of the flaps of the box..... SERIOUSLY??? for a WHOLE pizza?? (SEE PIC) I know times may be tough and there are bills to pay.... but having the face to ask for a few cents for a side of sauce, or knowing one cheese packet isnt enough but giving it to you anyways... will only kill you in the long run.... Generosity may cost you a bit more, but bring you more clientele and people will have better things to say. So what is supposed to be regular crust or California crust? I don't want a pan or deep dish crust but the regular crust pizza that I grew up with. You know the one with the crust around the edge? That's what I was asking for when I asked for the regular crust pizzas. Didn't get that. Got the skinny New York style crust with now side. Disappointing indeed! The taste as good though. Would have preferred a bit more tomato sauce on mine. The one with the white sauce as garlicky and yum. The price as reasonable. I got the two large combo using the coupon and I was happy with it. We were in a close run for a quick bite at Half Moon bay as we were driving up along the coast from Santa Cruz. Straw Hat pizza was a savior, with great reviews and a long history of serving great pizzas, we thought about trying it out. It wasn't crowded the time we were there but the place had really nice ambience. We ordered one of the Master Pizzas - Chicken Bacon Ranch - highly recommend it! Also ofcourse we love Ranch. The pizza was thin crust and very cheesy, absolutely delightful. We also ordered 6 hot chicken wings - though they were freshly prepared, I won't really recommend it as it was soft and not very crispy as I would like. It was served with a cup of Ranch. If you love wings but don't want it crispy, I would suggest to go for it, otherwise just avoid it. It is also a nice place to get salads and burgers, pretty popular. Not really crowded, courteous cashier and you can expect a waiting time of 15 minutes as everything is freshly prepared. You can get flyers for various local events and activities here too as you wait for the order. Nice ambience and seating arrangement. I recommend the place, if you are in a mood for pizza. read more

This place was pretty good. The service started of a bit piss poor though. We entered with my husband asking for the key to the bathroom and she asked if we were customers. Ummm yeah if you give us a moment to check out your menu. Anyway got pass that. Order or food and set outside. It was tasty. Customer service still wasn't so friendly but began to warm up as we stayed and ate. I think the compliments on the food soften the mood. I would definitely go back. Great little dive! My husband hadn't been to a Straw Hat Pizza since he was a kid and as we were driving by he spotted it and shouted for me to stop. We ordered a pitcher of beer and we definitely got what we asked for! None of those ever shrinking tiny pitchers here - you get a full size pitcher, 80's style! The pizza was exactly as we remembered it, perfect consistency after 20 years! We tried the garlic twists too, great to eat while drinking your beer! When all was said and done, two full-grown men finished off a large pizza and three of the six garlic twists, oh and don't forget that whole giant pitcher of beer! Being a HMB resident, not a lot of places deliver in this town, so when you are at home and you don't feel like cooking and you don't want to go out, your options are limited, so Pizza it is! Straw Hat has always been our go to delivery place when we are in need. Well it's our only go to pizza place in HMB. But now that I think of it, we have never actually been inside the actual Straw Hat pizza place in HMB, we have always ordered delivery. So this Yelp review would be for delivery only, lol. Depending on our mood and hunger level, we always order pizza, bread sticks, and maybe some hot wings. Either way, everything makes great left overs especially when you reheat them in the toaster oven. Our food has always come just the way we have ordered it, hot, and in the time they told us. We have never had any issues giving our order over the phone and the delivery guy has always been friendly even when my little dog always tackles (I mean greets) him at the door. We never hesitant when ordering pizza and look forward to the treat when we are breaking away from our diet! read more

Three bad experiences here.... 1) we ordered a simple pepperoni pizza once for lunch. Upon my husbands surprise arrival to join us, he went to the counter and asked for a small cup of jalepenos as a side. Not only did they seem put out, but they then proceeded to charge him 50 cents for it. I don't really know how toppings work, cause I don't order a whole bunch of toppings but I think it was a tad rude to demand we go rummaging thru our purse for 50 cents. 2) as a teacher for the school district, I was rewarding a group of children for their community service effort with a surprise pizza party. I called this place and asked if they do any deals for the schools since I would be ordering several pizzas. Um, ..... NOPE. 3) me & a coworker met here for lunch and since afterwards we were headed our separate ways we asked for two to-go boxes for our one pizza. We were charged 30 cents for the extra to-go box. Seriously???? I know times are tough and money is tight, but customer service goes a long way. Now, not only have you permanently lost my business but now I yelp about it and tell all the children, teachers and families that Straw Hat is not the place to go. read more

The pizza was ok - topping good but crust soggy. The primary reason for the poor review was the customer service. We used (presented and were refused) a Restaurant.Com coupon purchased a couple years ago -- the coupon does not expire. The restaurant apparently now has coupons but with different requirements than the ones we bought. However, we were able to print out our original coupon with original requirements -- the manager flatly refused to honor the coupon. Tells us to contact Restaurant.com for our coupon purchase price return. We are not in the business of restaurant or advertising -- the few dollars difference between the purchase we made (which was all we needed for two people) was minimal. The animosity gained by the restaurant by refusing to hone something we purchased in good faith - was/is major. A stupid "manager" can cause a lot of problems -- she did. read more

We were visiting Half Moon Bay and staying at a wonderful little local inn a few miles away. We had enjoyed a late lunch when we came into town that day and were not hungry at the normal dinner time. However, just before 10pm, after a few glasses of wine, we decided to have a pizza delivered to the inn (no drinking and driving!). Little did we know that Half Moon Bay is a sleepy little town and things close down early, even on a Saturday night. The first few pizza places we called said it was too late for delivery. Round Table said they didn't deliver. We called Straw Hat. They said they were closing and didn't deliver but asked where we were. The person said no problem, he'd deliver a pizza on his way home! The pizza arrived before 10:30 and was fresh and hot and very tasty. The person delivering (Mr is the one who called and who answered the door.. he said it was probably the owner who took the call and brought the pizza to us) was also thoughtful enough to pack a bag with paper plates, napkins, and packages of Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes. Half Moon Bay might be a sleepy little coastal town but it sure knows how to treat it's visitors. Thank you Straw Hat! Next time we're in town, we will make sure you get our business! read more

Stayed at a hotel in HMB last night and the husband and kids were very hungry. Going through the guide that the hotel provided the only place that said the delivered was Straw Hat. We were shocked and presently surprised that the menu was large. There were a lot of options. The staff were friendly and told us that our order would arrive is 30 minutes. To our surprise, 15 minutes later there was a knock on our hotel door. The food was hot. The pizza was correct, extra pepperoni and very light cheese. Safe to say, next time we are in HMB we will eat at Straw Hat! read more

My daughter' s been here twice and both times it was a really good experience for her. So I just wanted to thank the owner for a great work. Delicious food, fresh and tasty ingredients in the Salad Bar, pizza is amazing here (BBQ one and Buffalo Chicken one are the best!), they are making deliveries (which is highly appreciated in Half Moon Bay) and their delivery men are pretty quick and friendly :) Can't complain - highly recommend! read more

Getting your pizza to go? Thee is an extra "to go" charge. Need plates to go? Nope you can't have them. Need cheese and pepper packages? You get one of each for a large pizza. And the pizza is not that great. The only great thing about this place is 1/2 price Tuesdays. Avoid this place.
