Never go wrong here. Food just the way I want and service is also not over cooked or under cooked. So high way 92 and CA1 is both dead stop and CHP is saying it will take 3 hours to get normal. My friend and I had dinner here last night and the food was really bad. We ordered their "supreme" style pizza, chicken wings, and potato wedges. The pizza was dry and the ingredients were FAR from fresh. The chicken wings were pretty bad also, they were mostly fat with not much meat and they were slimy. The potato wedges were ok. First off I ordered personal pepperoni and olive pizza and was informed that the order needed to be $20 minimum for delivery. So i added to the order and got everything but the original pizza i wanted. When i called back to complain. The staff told me she never heard me say i wanted that pizza. She only knew of the rest. If i want my pizza i can order another one. No I want my order. I was charged 23.95 and didn't get what i wanted. Next the delivery guy asked me how much change. What the hell? Give me my change and let me tip; that's just proper etiquette. On top of all that the delivery guy didn't give me the proper change i asked for. He kept 10 dollars and gave me five. When i meant for him to keep five. I will never eat here and never recommend it to anybody all because of horrible service. Especially since the lady who answers the phone was rude and hung up on me. We got Takeout!!! The pizza here was great! We got the California veggies. It was my first time trying broccoli as a topping so good!! We also got garlic twists which were good and zucchini fries something like that lol which was also good! We wanted to get some potatoe wedges but they didnt have none anymore. :( .... Oh yeah and we went on a Tuesday and it turned out that it's Half Off on any pizza!! Great deal! The decorations inside are pretty cool lots of different stuff. I haven't seen a Straw Hat Pizza in years so I was eager to try it again when I happened to drive past one while visiting family. I was impressed with my whole experience. The pizza was worth coming back. The amount of toppings was very good, the sauce was the right amount and flavorful. We used to order delivery from Straw Hat about once a week for the last three years. Consistently hot, fresh, and reasonably fast. Last night we ordered two pizzas. They came about a half hour late and were very dry. We should have called about the issue right then, Sally the manager told us the next night. Yes, Sally, but how do you make what did not happen last night right? "Stuff happens" she said. I asked what she thought the business should do to restore our damaged experience. She offered a medium pizza at that moment. This Straw Hat is good at making pizza most of the time, but have a ways to go in terms of authentically listening to customers and proactively responding when a customer raises an issue. Unethical. I have gotten their delivery for awhile and I always thought my bill was a lot more than it should be- but I always let it go. This time I ask specifically and there is a delivery charge (thats ok- but its not advertised) and then they "round up" after tax. Still crazy that its $22 for a medium pizza. I will go somewhere else. When I asked why they round up- they said "next time ask for your total when you place your order". I guess then you have a chance not to be robbed. My fault clearly. OK I know it is just Straw Hat, but, I went there last night with my daughter's softball team and felt like it deserved a review. This place is just fine for that type of event. The best thing about it and the reason for 3 stars is that on Tuesdays all pizza's are half price!! So that is just a great deal when you are feeding lots of kids. The pizza is thin crust and was actually quite edible, large frosty mugs of Sierra Pale Ale on tap and the staff was friendly. I'm just not sure about this place. First, I didn't realize this is a chain, but once I found that out it explained a lot to me about why it kind of sucks. I've been here a couple times for their lunch specials and every time I have walked in I'm smacked in the face with an ammonia smell. Awesome, the place is clean. Now try using a less kill-inducing cleaner. Next is the service. I'm always "helped" by a sour employee who looks like she'd rather run than help one more person. I certainly don't envy her job, but, well, it is what she's there to do so being a bit nicer would be cool. The best part of this place is the salad bar. It is always stocked, clean and has variety. I go crazy there, because it comes with the lunch. The pizza is beyond "meh" and more like "blah", so I would never think of ordering a full pizza here for dinner or parties or anything. But if you have kids I would suppose this would be fun for them. For adults though you might as well order a frozen pizza and heat it up. That's about what you get here. There are certainly better pizza joints in town for lunch. Especially lately when we've seen a rise in pizza places opening up. These people are just plain rude. I ordered over the phone. We got the couples combo, with medium pizza two drinks and three groovy sticks. When I ordered she said oh dine in only special, I said oh I was looking at your menu online it doesn't say it's a special or dine in only. She says that's okay I'll do it for you. Nice I thought, someone had given me a gift certificate for $10 so my order will be like $12. then when I arrive and give her my gift certificate she says nope can't combine offers. 3 of us ordered a medium pie for watching a game. Not one of us finished a slice. (we filled up on pretzels and beer). One of the girls put the leftovers in the refrigerator, saying she "hates to waste food. Maybe Josh will eat it" The next morning my step brother took two pieces, warmed them, and ate half of one. I am working here from out of town so me and some coworkes decided to have a pizza delivered to our Hotel. The front desk suggested Straw Hat. The girl who took the order sounded like she was more in a hurry to leave than take our order. I repeted Diet Coke as a drink order more than twice. And we ordered a large pep/saus. The pizza itself had the taste and consistency of its cardboard delivery box and they sent regular coke. I told the delivery guy we ordered diet coke and he showed us a ticket and in broken english says "no, no..it say coke" I then in formed him that the "D" probably meant Diet. And that we needed diet since one of the guys was diabetic and did not want regular coke.....the dude turned his back and left. I gave him a $5.00 tip...I should have chased him down and took it back. We will never eat again there and we have told everyone in our company to not patronize this place as well. read more
