We ordered takeout, so I can't speak on the service or ambiance, but the vibes look cool and I definitely want to dine in at some point! My favorites were the bourbon brown butter burger, which had a nice sweetness to cut through the salty bacon, and the fennel cheese curds, though the fennel seasoning and accompanying sauce would probably be just as good on fries or tots. I also really liked how light the batter on the cheese curds was! We also got the green marvel burger, which I really enjoyed; the rooster burger, which was solid but not flavors I usually go for and also a bit messier than everything else (a lot of napkins are a must); and the togarashi tots. The tots themselves were good, but the togarashi seasoning didn't add as much as the fennel seasoning on the cheese curds did, and the accompanying sauce was very horseradish/wasabi-forward (not my vibe). The prices are definitely on the higher end; if you're not as picky about how rare your burger is, the sliders are a good option ($7 each vs. around $17 for a full burger). Plus, you can get two (which I feel like is about equal to if not more food than one regular burger) and have some variety. read more

Landed on this place after searching Yelp for "burger." Came here on a Tuesday night and it was packed because they were hosting a beer tasting night. I believe happy hour is 2/3 to 6 which is $2 off appetizers and certain drinks. Wontons- these are stuffed with bacon and cream cheese. Honestly did not taste any bacon. They came out looking like fried eggrolls, which was interesting. The sauce wasn't back. It's a sweet sauce that's super liquidity which was also the first for me. Overall it's ok but I've had better. 2/5 The Junk burger - honestly the best description so I got it. It comes with fries but you if you specialty fries like Parmesan then it's $3 extra, which is a little extra for just adding some cheese. Not worth it in my opinion. The burger is presentable. It was decent. 3/5 This place is pretty average. The burger is presentable but nothing too special like some other burger joints I've been to. If you just want a mellow place to hang out with friends for some beers apps this isn't a bad place. But if you really want a good burger probably not this place. Our waiter was very attentive and fun, our reservation got us a booth right by the front window. The menu is very creative: half vegan, half non-vegan and they try to make most of the things the same like vegan Cubano and very meaty Cubano. Let me just say they got a seating outside! We were biking around Minneapolis and found ourselves here. We of course sat outside because it was such a beautiful day. They actually have a lot of seating, inside and out. What stands out to me about stray dog is their menu. I expected your typical bar food but they have quite a variety of options. You can vegan just about any one of their sandwiches and burgers which is awesome. If you are getting a salad, their champ vinaigrette is a must. This is also a good spot for brunch on the weekends. I had trouble with their menu though because it was so repetitive. Like they had vegan options listed in multiple places but it was same dish. It was odd. Their drinks were also meh. The mules werent the best. This is more of a good beer place. Anyway, their prices are average and we always enjoy the service here. read more

We then realized that we were sent tater tots instead of cheese curds. The waiter apologized and said he would get us cheese curds. We continue eating and are on our last bite when the cheese curds finally came out. The waiter then realizes that we got normal cheese curds and not truffle and says "ah sorry". We get the check and I was surprised to see the cheese curds were still on the bill, even though we never received the actual item we ordered. Not sure if this was a kitchen issue or a waiter issue or both. Moral of the story, don't order an appetizer here. read more

We've walked by this restaurant several times in the charming NE neighborhood. In the summer, there's always people out on the patio. Yesterday we went there for the very first time to have dinner. Super fun, funky bar atmosphere with a zillion great paintings of dogs on the historic brick walls. Service was quick and good. Loved that the menu had a regular side and on the reverse side an identical vegetarian version. I had the Cobb salad and my husband had the black bean burger. I wasn't crazy about the turkey on my Cobb salad because it seemed more like processed turkey although I don't think it was. Very, very thin sliced and cut in strips. If it was fresh roasted it would have been perfect. The balsamic dressing was great. My husband enjoyed his black bean burger, a bit sloppy to hold, but good. The fries were excellent. As a vegetarian, I definitely appreciate the separate menu and multitude of options-- but no amount of veg food or craft beer can wash away the bad taste this place left in my mouth. This would be the bourbon brown butter burger at Stray Dog in Minneapolis. I realized after the fact that the actual burger patty is totally hidden here in the picture by the white cheddar cheese. Oops! Well, it's not a trendy smashed burger, but it's still great! Personally, I like a bit of acid flavor on my burger through pickles or some kind of tangy sauce. I don't think it would mesh well with the rest of the flavors here though, and as such, it didn't have any acid. It was delicious in its own right though. I'd wager if you are NOT a pickle or acid kind of a person, this burger could be one of your top favorites. read more

The stray dog is a funky little bar in North Minneapolis. As a vegetarian in a sea of meat eaters I was tasked with finding a restaurant for dinner. Having had my fair share of black bean burgers until I die and SO happy to see that Stray Dog had a huge selection of vegetarian options #thankyou. We stopped in on a Thursday around 8pm and the place was packed, we almost didn't get a table. Luckily we were seated and someone took our drink orders fairly quickly. Drinks were made in a timely fashion and waters were refilled without having to ask. The reason I took off a star was how long we waited for food- almost an hour. Our table became extremely hangry. I can't judge too harshly considering we are still in a pandemic. I ended up going with a vegetarian burger and I was super excited to see that they offer several other options. My regular fries and the garlic Parmesan fries I tried were delicious. With a full bar you can get any drink your heart could imagine. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who is going with vegetarian or vegan... But also if your meat eater. There are plenty of options for everyone to choose from here. Came here for a small birthday celebration on a Saturday night. It was BUSY! Great vibe and good menu selections. We had a reservation so we were sat right away.. however, we had requested a window booth and ended up on a high top table in the back of the bar. Being short, high top tables are really hard, so it wasn't very comfortable, but we took it as it was very busy and would have had to wait for anything else. We were sat before the end of happy hour, but weren't greeted for about 20 minutes so by then happy hour was over, but she did honor it which was nice. We ordered our drinks.. 1 of them came but the other 3 of us had to wait quite some time.. in fact our appetizer came before the rest of our drinks did. We could tell the server was a bit overwhelmed so we just rolled with it. We were sitting right by the service bar, so we could see the bartender was just really backed up. The food was really good though! We got the wontons for an appetizer, and they were super yummy.. but be ready for a LOT of cream cheese.. I loved it! I also got the pretzel burger.. the meat was tender and flavorful, the bun was soft. Everything I had hoped for. And the tots were amazing! Every one else seemed to be pretty happy with their selections as well, however, my friend ordered the steak salad and added the tuna.. it came with tuna but no steak. When the bill came we split the bill... 2 of us on one and 2 of us on the other. Literally the whole thing was wrong. Wrong meals and wrong drinks.. plus we got charged for the extra tuna.. (which is fine because obviously it was a kitchen screw up). We brought all of this to our server's attention and it took her 2 tries, but she got it all figured out and all was well. Even though our experience was a little rocky, I will definitely suggest this place for future visits.. the initial vibe was good and our server was friendly and the food was tasty. My family and I just got back from eating here, we had a reservation for 6pm we were sat immediately and nobody came to take our drinks order or anything for about 15-20 minutes but the table that sat in front of us came probably about 10 or so minutes later than us and the server Ellie went and took there drink order fast and then came to us, which wasn't a big deal at first but then she brought boxes to the table next to us and was chatting with them, and proceeded to go to this table with boxes already more than our table and the other table in front of us, we were running low on drink and were trying to get someone's attention (a food runner and our server Ellie) but both didn't hear us when we're asking for them to refill our drinks while they were at both tables near us, we eventually had to ask the host to get our server because she was pretty much MIA (except to the table she was clearly familiar with and the other table) and Ellie proceeded to go to the table she went to before and ask if they needed anything and then came to us when we asked for her specifically because she wasn't returning to our table, so then naturally we get upset and I said to the server that it's not okay to not check on your table in between the two tables she keeps checking on and she said it was because it was busy which is totally understandable except she repeatedly went the the tables surrounding us. After saying something to her and getting a refill on my drink there was something white on the tip of my straw which could have been just from a bumping something while she was bringing it back I'm not too sure but I'll insert a photo, after we paid and we're leaving we thanked the host for being helpful and friendly and she apologized but she was NOT the problem. Very unfortunate because we were excited to go celebrate a birthday but it was ruined by bad service. We decided to check this new Dog out on the recommendation of a friend, and we had a decent meal. But it did not blow us away and I would say the menu was promising but the execution was just OK. So it was a lovely night and we sat out on the patio. Our waitress was good. Efficient, good menu knowledge and prompt. We liked the beer list - a good variety of selections and something we were both happy with. We ordered big (why not?). We got the buffalo wings, which were hot and crispy, cooked well. They were coated in buffalo sauce and came with a side of the requisite white dressing. They were good but nothing extraordinary. Just straight wings. However, would order again. It would be nice if they had wet naps for your fingers. We also got the steak tartare appetizer, which again was decent and passable but not super execution. The steak bits were too big. The chunks of raw onion were both too big and too overwhelming. I was somewhat perturbed that we were not even halfway through our appetizers when our entrees came out. We wound up with four plates on the table at once and a struggle to enjoy them because we were trying to scarf everything down. I don't know whose fault that was - the waitresses or the kitchen's - but the timing was poor. For entrees, my husband picked a straight up cheddar bacon burger. Our waitress asked if he wanted pink or no pink (I don't love it when those are the only two options). Even though the burger seemed like a good idea I was somewhat surprised that the cheese on it wasn't really melted. I could see the separate pieces of cheddar cheese. I would have been disappointed if it was me. He subbed the fries for the brussel sprouts, which didn't look that hot. They looked overcooked and mushy. He only ate half of them. My biscuits and gravy was good. But again nothing remarkable. The biscuits were actually pretty good. The gravy was fine, the fried eggs on top would be better poached but were fine. We would definitely stop again if we were out in Northeast late night and needed a bite to eat and an extra beer. But as a dinner destination, probably not again. read more

First off I have to say I love the vegetarian options at Stray Dog, they actually have a whole menu with vegetarian apps and main dishes. We went for brunch on a Sunday and they had both indoor and outdoor seating option. It wasn't very busy so service was pretty fast. I had a vegetarian eggs Benedict and it was delicious. It came with a salad and these crispy hash brown type things that were great. There were lots of sweet and savory options for brunch and a huge selection of burgers. They also have a good selection of beer, mixed drinks and mocktails. Great spot for brunch, but i would love to come back and try lunch too. read more
