Creamy great ice cream, very unique to any other ice cream. I'd say you must try to understand, it's not like regular store bought ice cream that's glutinous or chain stores. Excellent service, nice and efficient, clean inside and nice layout of the interior. My girl and I got the special of the day Mocha and butterfinger , was delicious!

Came here to get ice cream here for the 1st time earlier today, after a hot day at the beach. I've order the Reese's twister and it was delicious. It was better than the McFlurry at McDonalds. The man working in there was sweet and friendly. They legit have an old school soft serve machine, which is rare to see nowadays. I need to come here again soon.

Stopped by on Feb 25 during Strickland's 90 Years celebration (90¢ small cone for every $9 spend). Flavors of the day were Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Honeydew. The cookie dough was creamy and delicious, just wish there were more cookie dough chunks. The Dubai Chocolate Hot Fudge Brownie with vanilla ice cream was my favorite. The brownie was warm, soft, and melted in my mouth, and the pistachio added the perfect crunch. Made fresh daily and always hits the spot! Huge thanks to Neil for making the best ice cream!

Great ice cream shop in Costa Mesa. Even though they only have 4 flavors to choose from daily, I still had a hard time picking a flavor. I ended up wort the Mesa Sundae because I love me some hot fudge. Staff very attentive and gives details on how they make their ice cream and help me make my decision. Super creamy and delicious ice cream/custard We tried the Red Velvet Chip as well as the Dubai sundae. Both were great and I am so excited to try different flavors. So so happy Strickland's is back! Chatted with the owner about how thrilled we were for their return, he was super friendly! They have speciality daily flavors that can be found on their monthly calendar online and previous flavors can be bought in pints. There's a reward card for the pints. You can really taste the freshness and tell that it's made daily!

This ice cream shop is located in a large plaza in Costa Mesa and faces out toward 19th Street. There was plenty of parking on the weekday afternoon when I visited. I'd recently seen a lot of positive reviews for it on Yelp so decided to give them a try. They offer two flavors every day - chocolate and vanilla - and also rotating flavors that change every day (two on weekdays and three on weekends). I recommend you go to their website and see what flavors they are offering on their flavor calendar or you can subscribe to it. I wish I had checked before I visited (and will do so in the future). I was greeted upon arrival, and I checked their board to see their two additional flavors: chocolate chip and maple nut. I knew immediately I wanted chocolate chip but which to choose for a second scoop? I've never liked nuts in my ice cream but decided to also give maple nut a try too. I got my flavors in a cup, which was presented with the ice cream standing tall, reaching for the sky. [[HIGHLIGHT]]No seating inside but they do have benches in front of the shop.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The ice cream was piled high. Both scoops were extremely creamy and soft. I loved the texture, such a smooth and silky mouth-feel. I thought the chocolate chip could have used more chips but I still liked it a lot. The maple nut had plenty of candied nuts, I think pecans although I'm not certain. I was surprised that I actually didn't mind the nuts in my ice cream; in fact, I liked them. But I thought the maple flavor of the ice cream was weak. I'll be back (and watching the calendar) for different flavors in the future. For now, 3.5 rounded up!

I told myself just a few bites... and the next thing I know I'm scooping up the last bite. Having daily rotating flavors is so fun and a great marketing tool by Strickland's. When I stopped by on Sunday, the flavors were banana, matcha, and mint chocolate chip. They offer the classic flavors, such as vanilla and chocolate, every day, along with 2-3 new flavors daily. I was set on ordering a cookies and cream milkshake but I changed my mind after sampling the matcha. The flavor isn't super strong but it had earthy notes that I knew would make a perfect base. I ordered the matcha arctic twister with oreo topping and it was incredible. They blended the oreo into small bits for the ice cream and added a generous crumble of oreo chunks at the top. The consistency was stretchy, creamy, and thick in a good way. I also sampled some of the strawberry milkshake, which was delicious, and the strawberry shortcake sundae. The sundae was definitely on the sweeter side but it makes for a great dessert for two people or one if you have a strong sweet tooth. I believe we were helped by Neil, the owner, who was very kind and recommended that we try the sundaes, since they are some of the more decorative items they offer. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's some seats inside and outside if you're looking to eat in. We went around 8pm on Sunday and it wasn't busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I love soft serve so I was excited to try Strickland's frozen custard! I had just had a frustrating experience at the DMV nearby and sought comfort in some ice cream. This Costa Mesa location is the only one outside of Ohio. There was a previous shop in Irvine, which was much loved, but it closed several years ago. Neil, the owner of the Costa Mesa store, was one of those fans and decided to open another one. They have a fairly limited menu of flavors - with chocolate and vanilla being the two constants. There are at least two other flavors that change daily. They have some interesting flavors like Amaretto Crunch, Thai Tea, Sweet Red Bean and Strawberry Oreo. I tried a small mocha. The serving size was decent for $4.95. It was nice and creamy and helped wash away those DMV blues. Would love to return and try more flavors! Plenty of parking in the lot.

Great ice cream experience! In all honesty, that might be the best soft serve I've ever had. Came by for a Yelp event. We met the owner, who was very friendly and taught us about the history of Strickland's. Fun to learn about the Ohio origins and how this is the only one outside of the Midwest. Random, but lucky for us! We tried the Reese's cup ice cream and it was delicious - so creamy and smooth. Great flavor and chunks. I wish there were more flavors on site, but I also feel like because of the limited options each day, it makes me want to come more often to try other flavors. I used to frequent the UCI location back in the day and decided to try the new location out. We ordered their flavors of the day and they served us basically half melted ice cream. The ice cream couldn't even make it back in the car which was a few feet away. Their ice cream consistency is way off and I would not come back. Although flavoring is on point, ice cream is not ice cream if it's melted. Very disappointed to say the least. Photo attached is taken within thirty seconds of receiving the ice cream. We have fond memories of Stricklands from when they were across from UCI. The fresh, daily-made ice cream and ice cream pies were really good. My wife and I often visited after studying or on our dates. But our visits to the new location have been disappointing. The ice cream melts too quickly, and the flavors are a bit too mellow. Despite the same ice cream machines, the quality just isn't the same. read more

I've lived in Orange County my whole life, and I have never heard of this place until I saw videos on Instagram showing it was reopening. I'm a huge mint chocolate chip fan and I have yet to find a really good mint chocolate chip in Orange County. Since their flavors change every day I took a look at their calendar, (which you can find either on Instagram or their website) and went the day that they had mint chocolate chip. They have chocolate and vanilla every day and then two new flavors each day. We tried both the strawberry and the mint chocolate chip and to my delight the mint chocolate chip was incredible! The strawberry was also very, very good. The ice cream was so smooth and creamy and somehow light at the same time. The owner explained it's a custard consistency but they make it without eggs. Safe to say this place is my new obsession. It just sucks that I have to wait a whole month to get my favorite flavor. This place is hard to find though! When you use the address that's on yelp and navigate you to the grocery store in the complex. And they don't have a phone number to call unfortunately. The store is located next to Coffee Bean but on the side of 17th so you can't see it when you're driving within the complex. I will make sure to purchase a pint the next time they have mint chocolate chip. read more

This place was really really great ice cream was almost fluffy creamy not too sweet and we ended up meeting the owner and he was really nice. We got the try all the flavors they had for at the time banana chocolate, vanilla, and Thai tea. I ended up getting Thai tea. It was really good. Recommendcoming here the only downfall is that there's no sign showing where it was so it was hard to find the place in the beginning but well worth it read more

THRILLED THAT STRICKLANDS IS BACK!! I used to go to the Irvine location but sadly they had been closed for a while. But they are back with a new location & new owners that I met just recently. It's super nice & clean and the owners are very invested in making sure Stricklands is back to stay. I bought a pint of the cookie dough, with it wonderful creamy consistency & vanilla flavor ( that only Stricklands is known for) to hold me over until Taro is here later in the month. I, like many others, remember Stricklands from its time in Irvine. Thank the ice cream gods for the return. The banana flavor is so good. I missed getting the twisters here. Good amount of toppings. As they continue to get things right, I guarantee you'll enjoy just about anything from their menu. No chairs or tables inside but take your order to go and enjoy a stroll around the block. There are quite a few ice cream shops in the area, but I find myself coming back to Strickland's when I'm craving ice cream. They usually have limited flavors per day since they're made fresh with vanilla and chocolate always on the menu. I've had their raspberry chunk and cherry vanilla which were both so delicious and not too overly sweet. Definitely recommend checking out their flavor calendar before you visit so you know what flavors to expect. read more

My family and I were in town and popped in because this place came up in ice cream suggestions. I usually suffer from a 'fallacy of choice' when it comes to too many choices but I was told by the employee that I couldn't go wrong with any flavor and boy was he right! My wife, kids, and I enjoyed every thing and swapped cones between the four of us because they were that good. And great proportions! The store was clean, the restrooms were functional, and the air conditioning was a nice retreat from the heat. Can't wait to come back in town (we have family here) and visit again. read more

This has to be my new favorite ice cream place! I believe they only have four flavors a day because they make it fresh everyday so make sure to check their schedule before coming if you're looking for a specific flavor. I was able to try their matcha Oreo flavor and maple nut and they were amazing and so flavorful!! The matcha Oreo was the perfect sweetness for me. You can still taste the earthiness of the matcha along with the sweetness of the Oreo. The maple nut tastes exactly like those maple cookies from Canada. I brought my little cousins and they're usually pretty picky with ice cream but they really like this place as well. The texture wasn't like the traditional ice cream texture that you would get from a tub. It was more of a gelato/froyo consistency but didn't melt too fast. They do sell pints of flavors in a small fridge on the side of the store so you can find different flavors that aren't the four flavors of the day. The place is located on the side of the building (facing the street) so I did have a little trouble finding it because I wasn't familiar with the area and my maps took me to the wrong section of the plaza. It's extremely clean inside but there's not a lot of room to sit and eat so we just sat outside the store. The man working there was super nice and explained everything very well. He gave us some suggestions on what the kids might like since they didn't have strawberry that day. Overall, I will 100% be coming back. My sister and I are so intrigued by their special flavors that we plan on coming back just to try their red bean ice cream. The price is slightly more than what we're used to paying but totally worth it in my opinion. The quality is unlike any other ice cream places I've tried and honestly, it's pretty rare to see a place make ice cream fresh daily. read more

It's Strickland's. That's all. Same creaminess, same familiar flavors, and most importantly, the same wonderful, friendly service. If you were lucky enough to experience the OG Strickland's across from UCI, this is like putting on your favorite warm comfy coat. I couldn't stop myself from breaking into a huge grin as I rounded the corner and saw their sign. A few small differences: no dole whip, no seating, and the punch cards are for pints only. But who's not gonna get many, many pints in the future? I know I am. It's a tough location, tucked away at the far end of a shopping center without much foot traffic, but worth the effort to find the reincarnated Strickland's storefront. read more

Gave this place a try now that's it's open. To be honest I was expecting more for $7.25. The McDonald's down the street has a comparable sundae for less. Was originally going to leave 2 stars but the ice cream is fresh, the candied nuts were a good addition so 3 stars it is. To the manager I would highly encourage upping your portions especially being the new spot on the block and competing with afters, salt and straw, handels and hans you want to stand out and have your customers get what they pay for. read more

Very happy to taste delicious Stricklands frozen custard again! I checked on Sunday for any updates on their opening and was delighted to see they soft opened on Friday. I made the trip and within hours of the discovery I was eating my favorite dish from years ago: a medium cup with vanilla and chocolate. I also got a few quarts to go. The one true king of Southern California ice cream has returned! In the years since the Irvine Company shut down Stricklands, a lot has happened in the ice cream scene around here. It was already starting to explode even before they closed, but now there are truly so many quality shops. But even today in 2024, nothing holds a candle to the GOAT. It's so good I was even considering taking a trip to Ohio just to get a chance to try to it again in the years after they closed. Why is it the best? The texture (the soft style -- think ice cream with the texture of soft serve), and the amazing nuance in the flavor. Great service and a creative menu that has great variety and is posted promptly ahead of time to allow customers to plan their visits according to flavors they're interested in. If you had the old Stricklands near UCI, know that this is the same quality as the old one. And if you never tried it before, I am jealous of your first time experiencing it! read more

Terrible staff. One guy said they ran out of the flavor but the girl said they have one scoop. Both of them had an attitude and 0 manners. First time trying Stricklands and had high hopes. The ice cream itself is good. However, I received irregular serving sizes. The older gentleman seems like the possible owner showed good customer skills. However, the other employee seemed like she didn't want to be there and served us the irregular portion sizes. I was so excited to see this new location open up in Newport Beach next to coffee bean in a shopping center with ample parking. It brings back happy memories from when it was in Irvine! We appreciated the kind service and enjoyed our delicious, smooth, extra creamy ice cream. I love the simple traditional flavors- vanilla, chocolate, banana, and mud pie today. My friend and I were the third customer during their first soft open day. It was not luck or happenstance. I've been waiting years for a Stricklands to reopen after the Irvine Company doomed the UCI Stricklands. I scoured the internet religiously, searching for a hint of a reopening. Finally, the wait is over. I can only attempt to explain what compelled me to relentlessly will Stricklands back into existence in Orange County. They call it frozen custard; a compelling description on its own. Though, and I could be mistaken, I believe most ice cream is technically frozen custard, this is on another level. I would argue that it's another substance entirely. This frozen custard, ice cream, otherworldly substance, whatever, is rich and light simultaneously. It's thick and creamy at first bite, then collapses shortly after. You can eat a pint and not feel sick, and It's subtly sweet, allowing the taste of the cream to come through on many flavors, especially vanilla. Just stop reading reviews and try it for yourself. read more

Hands down best ice cream around! They always have chocolate and vanilla and then rotate new flavors everyday so make sure you check out the calendar on their website. My favorite is banana!! It sounds so weird but it tastes so good. I've had MANY other flavors here like Nutella, jackfruit, pandan, red raspberry, coffee toffee and the list goes on and on. This place never disappoints, the ice cream is so smooth and delicious but eat fast bc it melts quick! Also the cones are so good and the service is impeccable. read more

Established in 1936.

Stricklands Frozen Custard was founded in 1936 by Bill and Florence Strickland. Bill developed his own rich recipe of cream, eggs, sugar and other ingredients. With his formula perfected, Bill turned his attention to developing an ice cream machine (called a "batch freezer") that would quickly freeze the ice cream, while limiting the air whipped into the product. The result is Stricklands' award-winning ice cream. Bill and Florence built the first Stricklands Frozen Custard stand on Triplett Avenue in Akron, Ohio, and the Stricklands' legend was born. The original ice cream store is still in operation today (and so are the original batch freezers!) In 2002, Strickland’s Marketing Corp. was formed to duplicate the success of the original Stricklands by granting franchises in select markets in the U.S. After reverse-engineering our proprietary ice cream machines to produce the same great taste as the originals, the Stricklands Ice Cream franchise opportunity was launched.

Place is easy to find right off 17th Street. You really can't miss it with that big sign. And the building is definitely unique as well so you shouldn't have any problem finding it Inside you can either choose to go digital and and skip talking to a real person. I'm old school, I actually like engaging with people. So I went to the counter. I ordered the rib sandwich without looking, and was a little shocked by the total. The sandwich itself is 15 bucks, I ordered a small fry which was $4.50, and a small drink which was $4. With a 15% tip my total came out to $28. Definitely a little shell-shocked by that. Now let's talk about the sandwich. It came to the table and at first glance it looked very small. When I picked it up there was a very generous portion of rib meat inside like a big chunk of rib meat. Huge pickles and a lot of sauce. It was a great sandwich. Do not get me wrong, what I ordered again? Maybe. They don't really have a meal deal that includes fries and a drink so it's sort of all a la carte. Now let's talk about the taste. The fries were perfectly cooked, and the sandwich itself was a solid 10. That being said, I would definitely feel more comfortable paying $12 for this sandwich, as I think 15 is a little exuberant. And you don't really get that many fries for $4.50. I can't imagine what the meal deal would have been, but I'm sure people would absolutely balk at that price. I would have given it a five-star review, but that is way too much for that sandwich. As delicious as it was, I just don't feel right spending that much for a sandwich. If it could be reworked, and the price dropped down I would be all in in a heartbeat. Bottom line? If you've been wanting to try it, I say go ahead. Just be warned that you could be unpleasantly surprised unless you know what the prices are you're getting into.

I got the honey matcha latte as is. I liked that the honey part was drinkable, but the matcha was not coming through much. All of us felt the drinks were watery. Probably just needed more matcha/espresso? Luxurious ?vinyl green booths line the walls, with light wood and bright interior. The greenery was a lovely touch. Seems like a pretty place to work or study. Cat shirt merch was very cute. I probably would get the green shirt if it had a small design on the front left and maybe bigger design on back rather than a large design with words om the front. Hopefully, the drinks will improve as they are open longer. Hope to come back and try again!

It's also small and cozy- a nice chitchat spot! The staff is also friendly and outgoing. Service is quick as well. My friend got the double matcha, while I had gotten the ube matcha. The ube matcha was good. It was very creamy and had a prominent ube flavor. My friend said her double matcha was good, but a bit pricey! With the substitution of oat milk, her total came out to $9! We concluded that if we're in the area and arent sure what cafe to hit up, we'd probably visit this spot again for some matcha!

The matcha was incredibly smooth, earthy, and had the perfect milk-to-matcha ratio. It actually tasted like matcha instead of being diluted by a giant cup of ice. I tried both the regular iced matcha with blueberry and the special iced matcha with matcha cold foam, and both were absolutely delicious. The only downside is that the parking lot is a bit small, but that's a minor issue. This location is located behind the Wahoo's Fish Taco Overall, I really loved this place and will definitely be coming back to try their other drinks

I visited with my family recently and their team was very friendly, helpful and quick with their service. The location may be tricky for some to find, so just look immediately to the right of Coffee Bean and you'll get there. We were excited with their rotating ice cream flavors, which is nice since it added novelty to the visit, and my son had a milkshake which he really enjoyed. The store has a family/local vibe and the owner Neil was there who is nice and answered all of our questions. This was some of the best ice cream I've ever tasted, and is creamy/fresh and stands out from the other types out there that I'm used to (Yogurtland/Handel's etc). One word: Delicious! The vanilla is so creamy and tastes like homemade! And don't even get me started on the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup (not a flavor they have all the time)...my absolute favorite.
