If I were rating atmosphere alone- 3 stars would be generous…read more I am rating product and service because adding "ambiance", would do those who work here and their product a disservice. It takes a while to get your order because of low staffing. That said, when you get it of course it's beautiful and tastes great. Sitting just around the corner from Bourbon St. and the hustle and bustle energy that you walk thorough to get here- walking in was disappointing. It's a large open space with seating- and it's QUIET. No background music. It gives late night diner vibes and honestly, that's too bad. Adding music, upbeat- doesn't have to sound like a club but music and having more energy between staff and customers would greatly improve the experience and I believe, increase business. If there were some Fats Domino or 90s R&B flowing out of speakers and staff were smiling, upbeat, dancing etc. it would give more "legendary" experience verses midnight diner vibe. That alone made me not want to come back. Not everyone wants to drink alcohol so stopping to sit for a well made artistic milkshake is a great option. The energy brings down the vibe and experience. Match the ambiance, service and vibe to your menu and 5 stars all day.

We found Lucy Boone online, and hopped over since the reviews and photos looked good. Well, don't believe everything that you see online! The ice cream here really isn't very good, and our main complaint about it is that it's just not creamy. It has more of the consistency of a watery/diluted supermarket brand, and the flavors themselves aren't impressive either. Not trying to be mean--just being honest! Two of us shared their sampler, and we do have to say that we appreciated that as an option! The king cake was pure cinnamon, but the peanut butter nuddy buddy was really good--we'd say that was the best one of them all. The salted butter caramel was ho hum and the fourth flavor was so ho hum that we can't even remember what it was. Maybe nutella brownie?? Our daughter had the caramel in a cone and she said it was very small :( Oh, almost forgot to mention that on a holiday weekend, they had ONE person working, who was very sweet and clearly trying to do all the things. Needless to say, the place was pretty dirty and the (fake) marble tables weren't clean. The space is also kind of small and it doesn't seem like they've made the best use of it. While this place may look and advertise itself like an upscale hipster ice cream, it just does not deliver. We personally wouldn't recommend Lucy Boone, but it's not like you'll have a "bad" experience. It's just not worth it.

This unassuming spot in a strip mall was gorgeous inside. And it serves coffee, pastries, ice cream plus y'know candy. AND they roast their own nuts, spices and I guess coffee beans. There were definitely folks hanging out and enjoying a Turkish style coffee... I guess either the caffeine doesn't hit them the way it does me or they had no plans to sleep. The candy isn't labeled 100% correctly but you kind of know that gummy worms are not gummy strawberries. I tried an assortment bag of gummies and some of chocolates and the price was by the pound. Re got some freshly roasted unsalted cashews and they were delicious! Parking is easy in the strip mall lot. And as you step in you definitely leave Louisiana and step into another country.

They also carry some gummy and chocolate varieties, some spices, some boxed coffee, some Middle Eastern pastries. Only some things were labeled with either what it was or the price of it, so that was a little disorienting. I was surprised to find a cafe and gelato bar inside. The gelato flavors were incredible. I settled on popcorn caramel and baklava in a waffle bowl. An employee said that everything was made in-house. The price was standard considering that all was made there. The service was weird. I kept getting served after people who'd gotten there after me. My ice cream scoops were significantly smaller than my boyfriend's. Returning isn't high on my list of priorities, but I'm glad I tried them.

Fast forward a few years, I am browsing an ice cream blog (theicecreaminformant.com), and come across a brand of ice cream called New Orleans Ice Cream Company. I had never heard of them before but their flavors seemed unique and I start craving a few of them. I was lucky enough to get my hands on some of it (Thank you, Adrian!) and started making my way through their flavors. New Orleans Ice Cream Company makes between16-20 different flavors of ice cream at any given time (They have some seasonal flavors). They stay local and make distinct New Orleans inspred flavors. Some of their flavors include, Cafe Au Lait & Beignets (Fantastic btw!), Coffee & Chicory, Creole Cream Cheese (Their most popular flavor), Ponchatoula Strawberry, Mardi Gras Pie, Praline Crunch etc. These ice cream pints are super premium ice creams which contain tons of flavor, great texture and the freshest ingredients they can get their hands on. It's not available in stores out here in AZ, yet, but if you want to get your hands on some of it, you can pick it up at icecreamsource.com. If you are an ice cream lover, you owe it to yourself to get a couple of pints. If you need a few suggestions, I would highly recommend the Cafe Au Lait & Beignets (Great coffee flavor, chewy donut pieces) , the Praline Crunch (Butter pecan tasting ice cream with candied pralines throughout) and the Baked Alaska (The owners favorite flavor which is packed with these crunchy meringue bits that are out of this world!). Any pint you choose, should be good. These guys are cranking out some of the best ice cream out there! I can't wait to make my way through the other pints that are sitting in my freezer. I have been extremely impressed so far and every pint I have tried, has been flat out delicious!

This brand can be a bit of a challenge to find and so far I have only seen it at local groceries like Rouse's, Zara's, Langenstein's, Dorignac's, Breaux Mart, Fresh Market, Winn-Dixie and Whole Foods. Their Po Boy Ice Cream sandwich is probably the finest ice cream sandwich I have ever had and I believe Parkway Bakery offers those also. I first tried their ice cream at a Yelp event and I have been a fan ever since. This stuff has to be really good to occasionally break me away from my normal Creole Creamery and Angelo Brocato's addiction.

We went in pretty late (around 8pm) and were pretty disappointed. Half of the flavors that we were excited to get (Cheesecake, strawberry, cookies and cream, tart, etc) were all slightly runny :/. Some toppings were clumpy, so we couldn't add it properly in our bowl. The bathroom is disgusting, where water was running from under the toilet, causing the floor to be wet. Line for toppings was slow going but that's to be expected when you have kids making decisions. I went for a little squeeze of this yogurt and that yogurt. I ended up with coconut, pineapple, banana, mango and pomegranate. No toppings. I love that the price is by weight, because that felt fair. I think mine was around $6. The cashier was rocking it by herself, getting everyone through without looking stressed. The store itself needed to be cleaned: tables were dirty, the toppings were everywhere and the yogurt catch trays needed cleaning - even the garbage outside needed to be dumped and the outside tables had trash around them. I went because my cousin wanted to go, but I didn't feel comfortable with the sanitation. I'll try it again sometime during a weekday to see if it's any better.
