I recently dined at Succotash Prime for my first time, as I'd already been to their National Harbor location, and I wanted to see the difference, location wise. My experience was so-so and I'm not sure if I'll be back to give them another try. I came in, specifically, to try their Pimento Cheese Burger and saw on their website that it was also on the Happy Hour Menu. I didn't see anything in the Happy Hour Menu area on the website that said it was for bar patrons only. So, I was up for it, since I thought I would be able to dine in the main dining room. I'm not really a drinker and I've personally had multiple poor service experiences in the past while ordering food with no drinks from a bar. However, when I arrived there and requested a table for one, the host asked if I was coming in for Happy Hour, and informed me that I would have to dine at the bar. I was hesitant, but went ahead with it since I was already there, and the bar wasn't too packed. I did see, after the fact, that Happy Hour "at the bar" was placed under the Hours of Operation area instead of the Menu area on their website. The main dining room had a nice ambiance to it. I loved the painted nature scenes on the walls. It almost made it feel like you were outdoors a bit, especially with all the natural light that seemed to fill the space. The bartender seemed friendly and he was pretty quick with greeting and taking my order. The Pimento Cheese Burger was pretty good. Good amount of the Pimento Cheese on top with the Bacon Jam. Pickles were fresh. Gochujang Ketchup added a slight kick. Fries were fresh, not frozen. I'd overall give the Burger and Fries an 8.5 out of 10. Nothing crazy but it was definitely delicious. However, what I did not like was the bartender coming over to the area right in front of me, while I was attempting to enjoy my meal, and slamming down his glasses into the metal grate in front of me. It was a fairly large bar and he only seemed to do it right in front of me, only when my food came out. I was nervous that one of the glasses would shatter, that's how bad it was. It was so loud and this is one of the many reasons why I don't like dining at a bar. I understand that it is the proprietor's or head manager's choice on whether the whole restaurant can partake in "Happy Hour" or only the bar area. They have ever right to make that decision. I just personally don't enjoy restaurants who do choose that option for their patrons. I feel that everyone should be able to have an "Happy Hour" after their long day of work or whatever it may be, with a nice discount on the food or drink. And I fully recognize that this is more of a personal preference than anything else. Like I said above, not sure if I'll be back, but to each their own.

We walked in for some drinks and their cornbread which was basically our post-dinner dessert. The cornbread is moist and buttery although very crumbly. We sat at the bar and the bartender was having a rough time because he was spilling all over the countertop and pouring drinks messily so it felt rather chaotic but whatever lol

Visited on a Sunday for brunch with a friend. We opted for the family style brunch option for $31/person. This was a good option as it was our first time and wanted to try multiple things. I wasn't a huge fan of the deviled egg. The shrimp and grits as well as the kimchi greens were my favorite of the dishes that we tried. We enjoyed great service, the waitress was very attentive and the restaurant gives a cute Sunday brunch vibe. I would recommend for a cute brunch date with friends or date.

Hands-down, my favorite meal in DC, and it was very reasonably priced for lunch. Got a salad which was very delicious. Also got the lunch meal which included hush puppies, chicken, and waffles, and banana pudding dessert. The hush puppies had amazing flavor, and were in a spicy sauce with pimento cheese. I saved the rest of that sauce for the main course, which was half a Belgian waffle with two large pieces of fried chicken. The chicken was juicy yet crispy on the outside. The banana pudding was a little too sweet for me, but still delicious. Service was wonderful. Our waitress came by at just the right times, and our food came out pretty quick. The restaurant itself was mostly packed, but we were able to snag last-minute lunch reservations on a Saturday. Since the restaurant has two floors of seating, it was a bit noisy, but not so much that I couldn't hear anyone talking at my table.

We've wanted to try this place since we saw Edward Lee on culinary class wars...when we arrived, the restaurant was full. We were seated in the main level towards the back. If you have read some of my past reviews, I have an issue with crowded restaurants and loud patrons which end up dampening the experience for me. I am happy to report that although the restaurant was bustling, I had no issues carrying conversations with everyone at our table of six. We shared many different appetizers and each had a main dish then shared desserts. This was an interesting mixture of southern style cuisine and Korean touches here and there. Flavors were all good. Think my favorite dish was the pork belly ssam. I love that there was such a Korean dish in a primarily southern cuisine restaurant.

Another kick ass brunch at succotash! They were offering a $25 three course option that was a great deal. I had three pimento hush puppies, trout over dirty rice, and banana pudding and all was delicious. My friend loved the cornbread, the crab hash, the mint julep ice cream, and her drink, Coffee and Cigarettes. Great and friendly service. Beautiful space.

I celebrated my 21st birthday here! The service was amazing and the restaurant is just so beautiful. The food was very tasty and they kindly gave me a small dessert with a candle for the celebration. This is a place that is good for a nice lunch or dinner; really good for pics too!

An overall 3.75 star review for Succotash Prime. Located in DC, you already know parking is a challenge and there is no street parking. Reservations are recommended, but depending on the day and time of your visit and number of persons in your party, you may get lucky and be accommodated. We made reservations to avoid any crappy seating or prolonged waiting. Although, we decided around lunchtime to go after work, it wasn't difficult to secure a reservation. Not a lot of diners when we arrived on a Friday afternoon at 3:30pm. Seated quickly, Rio was our server. I don't know what they did to him prior to our arrival but he was giving "I don't want to be here" vibes in his speech and body language. He was efficient and checked on us appropriately but had to hand us off to another server who was coming on shift. I wish we had started with her as she had an upbeat outlook and was energetic. There are seasonal cocktails and I went with the Cherry Pick in honor of the blooming of the cherry blossoms in Washington, DC. It was flavorful and I enjoyed it. The menu provided had small variations in what they serve in comparison to their sister location Succotash in National Harbor. An express option at $31 (skirt steak or salmon) with salad, French fries and dessert is a welcome source of variety. I had the catfish sandwich that comes with french fries. I think I got the catfish that was on Ozempic because that was the thinnest fillet of catfish I've seen. Normally catfish is flakier and meatier. The sandwich was good and reheated well since I was only able to eat half during the visit. The interior was very spacious and has an upper level. There is a bar and sometimes they run out of featured cocktails but it gives the opportunity to go with your backup choice. If in the area, I would frequent here again.

Just amazing from the interior to the music to the food. What a treat. Loved everything about it. Our meal & the options made it challenging to choose one dish. Also gives reasons to return. Being from Kentucky we highly recommend the Hot Brown. You won't be disappointed. We finish our meal with the pecan sticky rolls. So be certain to save room for that treat. We will return out and we highly recommend it. Our server was good, but I can't say great. He definitely knew the menu and made multiple recommendations.

I am just going to jump into it, and I will say the service at the national harbor location is so much better. You ever get that vibe from people and see their facial reactions so much that it is obvious that they are just over it. Well, that was the reaction we saw between the hostess and our waiter on the afternoon of March 26th at 1545. The hostess took us to our table, and she pointed to our table while speaking to our future waiter and you can just see his eyes roll and his head go back. Almost like, "Come on another table?" There was a back and forth for a minute and he eventually came over with great enthusiasm to make us feel welcome. That was all sarcasm. My spouse and I picked up on it, and we knew what we were in for as we watched the interaction between him and the hostess. He did not want to be there or at least he did not want to serve us, and it was more than clear. We were already there and had decided to try Succotash Prime after great service and food at the National Harbor location. We still ordered but the vibe was completely off and remained the same. It was at a point where do not bother to come over if it is going to be like this. The food was not bad, and the mint julep ice cream was the highlight of the meal. We started off with hot oysters that were ok. I went with the "Express" which was the skirt steak or the catch of the day, salad, fries, and the already mentioned mint julep ice cream. The skirt steak was ehh. Not very flavorful but not bad. Spouse and I were betting that the mint julep ice cream would not come out and we should have put it in on the prediction markets because it was completely forgotten. I reminded him as I am sure he did not want to hear anything from us and he was ready to go. Well at this point so were we. Overall, I cannot recommend this place and will not. This could have been a one off and many have said the great experience here and even said it is a favorite place to go. This was not my experience, and the biggest disappointment was that thinking this would be a great place that my spouse would enjoy and it was just dissatisfaction all the way around. Not how I imagined a break after work going where it should have been a pick me up after a long down was just a let down. Mentioning this to anyone just seemed pointless. The hostess had her bag, changed shoes and left. I got tired of waiting around. Thank goodness for InKind to pay the bill without any more interaction. It was just one of the situations where attitude and give a care starts from the top down and seeing the interaction at the start showed me there are some deeper problems with the front staff. One and done. Far from a "Prime" experience.

I went to Succotash and tried the "Taste the South." The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and the overall vibe is great. Service was fine, nothing standout but no real issues there. The biggest problem was the food. It took a long time to come out, and when it finally did, it was honestly pretty underwhelming. For something that's supposed to highlight Southern cooking, it really lacked flavor across the board. Nothing was bad, but nothing was memorable either. If you've never had Southern food before, you might enjoy it just for the experience and setting. But if you have any baseline for what good Southern food should taste like, this doesn't really hit. Overall, it just felt very average and not something I'd go back for.

So far so good!!! Greeted by lovely and friendly staff. Thank you Chris and Haden and Sheria!!! So much on the menu, so little time!!! Everyone can find something delicious on the menu, fish, steak, pork and poultry! This the place you plan to attend when there is a variety of different appetites. The place is airy and open!!!

Succotash might officially be the start of a love story... and honestly, what a place to begin. I came here for a first date, and everything--from the ambiance to the food--set the tone perfectly. It's warm, inviting, and just the right mix of lively and intimate. We started with the fried green tomato salad and the cauliflower. The salad was fresh, flavorful, and a standout for me. The cauliflower had a bit too much sauce for my taste, but the texture was excellent--crispy and well-executed. For mains, I had the catfish and my date ordered the smoked wings--both were delicious and full of flavor. But beyond the food, the experience really made the night. Great conversation, a kind and thoughtful date, and a setting that made it all feel a little special. We've already gone on a second date... so who knows--this might just be the place we look back on and say, "this is where it all started." Wish us luck

    Is it open again?

Hi Ben, This location will reopen August 31st. We look forward to welcoming you back!

Is there valet parking? If not where is the closed parking garage and how long in the walk?

I didn't notice any valet parking. However, there are several parking garages in the area. Not too far of a walk. Download the spot hero app and put in succotash as your destination

    Are kids allowed?

    Yes!

    Is there a dress code?

I would say no sneakers or basketball shorts. Business casual . Usually people after work are there or the touristy people

I Believe so. They have elevators to access the 2nd floor

Do they have a brunch option that includes bottomless drinks?

    Pretty sure that yes

I actually arrived about an hour after everyone else, and I really appreciated that the staff still accommodated me and allowed me to enjoy the full two-hour brunch experience instead of rushing me. That flexibility meant a lot and let me celebrate with my friends without feeling like I had missed out. The buffet itself had plenty to choose from, including fried catfish, made-to-order waffles, macaroni and cheese, fresh fruit, and desserts. I decided to upgrade with the seafood option, which was absolutely worth it. I enjoyed oysters, crab legs, shrimp cocktail, and prime rib, making brunch feel like a true special occasion. My only disappointment was the prime rib. I love mine rare, but each serving I received was more well done than I prefer. It tasted like it had spent a little too much time under the heat lamps before being served. Service was friendly, but it definitely felt like the restaurant was stretched thin. Our server was attentive and kind, but drinks and premium brunch items occasionally went to the wrong table, and there were moments when it seemed difficult to keep track of who had ordered what. To me, this felt less like a service issue and more like a staffing issue. It's a large, beautifully designed restaurant, and it seemed like there simply weren't enough servers for the number of guests. I understand that restaurants are trying to balance staffing and costs, especially with the challenges many businesses in DC are facing right now, but it does affect the guest experience. One of my favorite moments was when the team brought out a birthday cake with a candle and sang to our birthday guest. It was a thoughtful gesture that made the celebration feel even more special. Despite a few hiccups, we left full, happy, and grateful to spend time together. Now that I know what to expect, I'd absolutely come back for another brunch.

tl;dr -- 3.5/5, but bumping it to a 4/5 for the attentive service…read more Mallard's been on my friend and I's list for awhile, so we got dinner here for our catch-up meal this past Tuesday. The interior leans into a nostalgic Southern theme rooted in a different era, with warm red-brown tones, vintage frames lining the walls, and some duck-related decor. After placing our order, our server brought out a small serving of French onion soup for us to enjoy, compliments of the chef. The soup was incredibly creamy and smooth with a nice acidity. The bits of fried onion on top gave it a sweeter flavor that had us wanting more. SEA ISLAND PEA DIP - 9 Duck Fat Saltines, Benne Seeds The house-made saltines were a nice touch, with a wheat-y and nutty texture and flavor that's missing in the store-bought ones. I love the pea dip, which was mixed with benne seeds, for a smooth, yet gritty flavor. My friend thought it tasted a bit too heavy of a "fennel" flavor, but I personally enjoyed it. FOIE GRAS & WAFFLES - 23 This was easily our favorite dish of the night. The combination of flavors and textures was outstanding: silky, umami-rich foie gras balanced by tart pickled apples, grounded by the familiar comfort of waffle, and brought together with a savory onion sauce and apple butter. The foie gras maple syrup was quite delicious, definitely a unique pairing. PENNSYLVANIA PEKIN DUCK - 46 Given that there would be Peking-style duck breast, with sauce reminiscent of hoisin on the side, we thought there would have been some sort of bun to pair with it. Despite that, the duck breast was so juicy and perfectly prepared. The collard greens were delicious. The fried chicken leg was great with the meat falling off the bone easily. The batter was not overdone either. Definitely a standout dish, with the duck breast being the highlight. GRIDDLED WILD BLUE CATFISH - 31 The dish featured a small slab of lightly battered catfish with a generous pour of the she-crab chowder, which read more like a sauce given how reduced and salty it was on its own. Since we family-styled everything, we only had a couple bites of the catfish each. We enjoyed the peanut potato, but left majority of the bacon and chowder since it was too salty. A few pieces of toast would've gone a long way in balancing the dish, which was a shame, as the chowder itself was quite seafood-forward and savory. "COFFEE & CIGARETTES" - 15 Lastly, we ended our night with our dessert featured on an ashtray. A generous scoop of espresso ice cream topped with chocolate mousse, topped with tobacco caramel and olive oil. There were also espresso morsels on the side, with its bitterness cutting through the overall sweetness of the dessert just a bit. This was good, but a bit too rich and sweet for my taste. While there were a couple standouts, my friend and I both agreed that Mallard is fine, but not great (echoing a couple other reviews). We're glad we tried it, but it's hard to say when we'd be back.

We were at their lunch dining so salads were also ordered and tasted amazing. Finished the mean off with a Key Lime Pie and coffee. Reservations are highly recommended given its popularity. They also asked that all attendees in your party are present so remember that to be seated. Situated near the White House, and directly across the street from The Department of Treasury, it's an ideal spot for a meal before or after site seeing. What's clear about Old Ebbitt Grill is its longstanding appeal. President McKinley was such a fan he reportedly lived there during his Congressional days. Presidents Grant, Johnson, Cleveland, and Roosevelt all stopped in, basically making it a hot spot in Washington. If it's President approved you should go also!

We were seated at our reservation time and had great service all evening-our server answered our questions, asked about dietary restrictions, explained each dish, and even provided complementary champagne and a delicious layered dessert to celebrate our anniversary. The manager on duty also came by at the beginning and end of our meal to ask about our experience and to answer questions. The food came out in a well-timed manner, with courses spaced out appropriately. A huge shout-out to all the Marcus DC staff for above and beyond customer service! Marcus DC's ambiance is nice-understated and elegant. Due to recent weather in DC, the restaurant was warmer and stuffier than normal; however, Marcus DC sent me an e-mail earlier in the day explaining the situation and how they were remedying the air quality, which I appreciated. My wife and I ordered a la carte (I would recommend), and shared the following dishes: Blue Cornbread: The star dish of the evening and one of the five best dishes I have had at any restaurant this year. I loved the unique blue corn flour, providing an excellent color. The cornbread was not sweet, which was great, and had an unexpected and delightful small kick. The Yassa butter with honey was perfectly creamy and spreadable, and provided an excellent complement to the warm, soft cornbread (topped with the right amount of salt). Two pieces come with each order and I would advise ordering enough to make sure everyone in your party gets at least one piece-it's that good. Snapper Crudo: While I wish we had gotten a little more fish, the citrus and sauce provided excellent acidity, the avocado great creaminess, and the sunflower seeds great crunch. A great dish. Seared Faroe Island Salmon: The salmon was perfectly cooked medium-rare with great crispy skin. The sauce was the perfect accompaniment to the salmon, providing lots of good flavor. Charred Heirloom Tomato: A nicely grilled tomato with good umami from the mushrooms and smokiness from the onions. Crispy Potato: The potatoes were perfectly baked, with a nice crispy skin. I wish there had been more creme fraiche, roe, and dill but Confit Heirloom Carrots: The only disappointing dish of the night. The carrots were significantly undercooked and the salsa verde was way too salty. In addition to our complementary dessert, we split the corn cremeux and the praline cake. The corn got lost in the berries, custard, and ice cream, and the praline cake was a bit cloying, although the apricot ginger sorbet was fantastic. I would highly recommend Marcus DC for your next special occasion!

We come here all the time for the bread pudding but this time we brought a group. Always pleasant and lively, Puddin reminds me of southern hospitality at its finest. The bread pudding is served warm and rich with chunks of bread and browned butter and bourbon flavors throughout. Add the creamy homemade vanilla pudding on top and we never leave without it. We also got to sample a new alcoholic beverage that was heavenly. Cannot remember the name but if you go to the front counter they will give you a sample of the mixer. Trust me, you will want to order it. The gumbo was a crowd favorite. One sample and the flavor made you want to double back. My guests walked the area and came back specifically to get some to take home. They boxed it up separately for easy transport. Now that is service. Quick and easy stop right before it rained. Puddin is a complete takeout spot but the vibes while you order and wait make it a counter worth visiting again and again. The hospitality, the comfort food, and the inviting staff make it unforgettable.

They have a decent size location located in the market and of course there's a line to stand in but it's not bad. Let me tell you, I got one small order and went back for a big order. Overall it was good and I would visit this location again.

They make for a great appetizer to share with a group of 2-4 people or a perfect small meal if you're not looking for something heavy. Highly recommend giving them a try. Espresso Express - This is an interesting and creative take on an espresso martini. Instead of vodka, they use reposado tequila, which adds a richer and more complex flavor profile. The result is an outstanding cocktail and probably one of the top five espresso-based drinks I've ever had. Without question, this was the highlight of the meal for me. Busy - We arrived around 6:00 PM on a Saturday night during the summer and were pleasantly surprised to walk in and find seating for our group of eight. The restaurant was bustling with people coming and going throughout the evening, but the space is much larger than it appears from the outside, allowing it to handle the crowd well. Pro Tip: If you're on a date or hoping for an easier conversation, ask for seating in the side dining area. It is noticeably quieter than the main dining room and outdoor seating areas. Pro Tip: Don't judge the size of the restaurant from the exterior. The inside is surprisingly spacious and can accommodate larger groups better than you might expect.
