This place has been the talk of the Chinese/Taiwanese circles in Torrance/PV. It definitely lived up to the hype. Spicy beef noodle soup - was good, lighter than Dai Ho, but tasty in it's own right. Spicy tofu and fish - fillets of white fish with silken tofu in soup of spicy Szechuan peppercorn. I like the numb-tingling feeling the peppercorn imbues. My friends have been raving about how good this place was. I was excited to go because it is a hole-in-the-wall chinese restaurant, which I normally love! This place definitely shows you the true definition of a "hole in the wall" restaurant. It is really small and the furniture isn't nice at all. However, in any place you eat, it's really all about the food! We ordered the Beef Noodle Soup, Dan Dan noodles, Dumplings, and side dishes of tendons, and other veggies. The price for each was pretty cheap, which is always good. However, the reason for the 3 star is because everything we ordered was all really really oily and greasy than the norm. Even my friends who normally come here said that all the food was too oily compared to the other days. Due to the oiliness, we just couldn't finish any of the dishes. The Dan Dan noodles by far was a fail. I really only liked the dumplings here.. but.. due to all the raving reviews, my assumption is that it was only bad that day. This place is a hidden gem! I went here the other weekend with 3 other friends around 11:30AM and at first was like ... wow this is a total hole in the wall. It was a small plain looking little place in a small strip mall with maybe 6 or 7 small tables. However, upon seeing and smelling the food I really didn't care at all. We ordered the Ja Jiang Mien and the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. Both were great because they make their noodles fresh, and the meat was soft and flavorful. We also ordered their spicy dumplings which where delicious. We also ordered a lot of their side dishes which turned out to be AWESOME! The pig ears have a really great spicy flavor and were thinly sliced. The seaweed was very flavorful and tasty. The stomach also was tasty, spicy and soft. All in all it was a great place. Next time I want to try their chinese pancakes since those also looked amazing!! The only reason it isn't a 5 star is because it is small so you can't meet a lot of people there, and also by the time we left (which was prime lunch time) it had started to get a sizable line outside. read more

Been coming here for many years and nothing has changed. The prices are still as cheap as ever and the quality is as good as always. For $7 you get some pretty bomb beef stew noodle soup with a sizable portion. The broth is a little oily but the flavor is amazing. I personally like getting the fat noodles when possible since it tastes much more flavorful and substantial. The beef and tendon are generally quite tender. In other words, if you haven't inferred yet, I like Sue's Kitchen's beef stew noodle soup. Other noteworthy food stuffs are their side dishes, beef roll (it's labeled as beef burrito on the menu lulz), and whatever else you point at on the menu. What I love is how generous they are in portion and prices. It's a hole in the wall place with very limited parking and seating but you should have no problem parking or finding a seat, these guys work fast so you can park, eat and leave in less than 30 minutes if you wanted. read more

Good stuff - this is a total whole in the wall, but if you're looking for some pretty authentic Chinese food, this is great! Parking can be tough sometimes. And it certainly helps to know Chinese, but it's not completely necessary as I witnessed a waiter speaking Japanese to another table =P Chinese burritos here are good too! Was introduced to this place by a dinner friend.. and it is the closest to SGV Taiwanese Food you can find in 310! We had the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup: Big chunks of beef and a decent amount of vegetable along with Noodle in a spicy but bearable beef broth. I felt the broth could've been tastier but instead it seem a bit oily. But for 310, it was fine. For SGV, it would've been 1 star. We also had 1. Beef Roll, be prepared to be saturated with Cilantro and Beef..I think its a-ok, but it could be tastier and meatier. 2. Cold Sides (Pig Ears, Seaweed & Cucumbers): The Pig Ears & Seaweed were decent..however I really liked the cucumbers, it tasted so refreshing!! we got two beef noodle soups today. usually they are really good but i dont know what happened. it was such a waste of money. the noodles were just awful. it was a mix between: the noodles were frozen and they thawed them out just by leaving it outside OR they severely overcooked them and then just left them out for it to clump together after they became cold. because trying to eat these noodles was like eating flour mush. it tasted of soggy flour. it was mushy the moment you take a bite like mashing ultra soft noodles together the way people mash potatoes. it was so disgusting i threw out the last 2/3 portion of the noodles. this was sorely disappointing as noodles are basically 2/3 of the meal. i had to settle for drinking a little of the soup while just eating the beef. i dont think i will come back here again in a long time. read more

Finally I have found my go-to place for Chinese comfort food w/o having to hit 4 freeways! My dining companions and I shared: 2 bowls of the beef noodle soup- I love the spicy kick the broth had. Noodles were standard, good portions of beef and tendon. I think it was $5.95 each and the bowls were big! The beef "burrito"- I really enjoyed Sue's Kitchen's version. Crispy and filled with tender beef. Scallion pancake- Chewy and not too oniony. $2.30 I think. Thousand layer cake- Flaky and tender. This was fun to eat. $2.30 as well. The water dumplings- Don't order this if you're expecting a meaty filling. These are filled with a variety of greens. I didn't mind this dish but I don't exactly crave it either. 3 different kinds of cold appetizers (spicy peanuts, bean curd, and seaweed)- $1.85 for 1 or $3.50 for 3. There's about 8 kinds I think...can't wait to try them all! This was all for under $30 before tip, and fed 4 people very well. Fantastic food, very cheap prices for the area, and great service. Stopped in to get some beef noodle soup; it was cash only and for take out. Took em only about 5 mins from order to packed and in my hands. By the time I got home the noodles were very sticky but got better after a little microwave action. Everything was packed really well and portions were really big (i had 2.5 meals out of it). Been eating food from Sue's Kitchen for years now, and I am surprised that I never wrote a review for the place! Well, now's the time and space for that. :) I never dined inside the restaurant, ever. The place is not spacious enough to accommodate a lot of people- probably 8 to 10 tables tops and that's it. It's more of a take-out place than anything else. Hence, my family always orders ahead and gets the food to-go. Love the small dishes, especially the pig ears (crispy and chewy at the same time). As for the "main dish," I either choose between beef noodle soup (sometimes I get it spicy, sometimes not at all) and the chicken or fried fish rice plate, bento-style. The beef noodle soup is a hit or a miss at times, particularly when it comes to the beef: I've had super tender pieces (awesome), but I've also had really tough and dry ones (not so cool). As for the chicken or fried fish rice plate, I would prefer the fish just because it's fried and crispy and delicious. Not to say that the chicken version isn't tasty, but I just happen to prefer the fish more. Both plates come with heaping amounts of rice, a boiled egg soaked in mapo tofu-like sauce, and either seaweed or julienned potatoes. Good quality, satisfies your stomach in the end. read more

We recognized the menu when we came in, so we asked. Apparently their sister store is the Szechuan Garden restaurant in Artesia, and we frequent that location on the regular. Food was good, very much as homemade as it comes. Service is fast and friendly. If you can get over the fact that everyone stares at you intently when you come in, you may also have a pleasant dining experience. The floor was kinda dirty, but nothing unexpected. YUMMY food at GREAT prices. My (Caucasian) husband craves this place!!! You can't go wrong with Sue's Kitchen because everything is authentic and tasty. They have a lot of variety on their menu (soup noodles, rice dishes, dumplings, small cold plates, and more). We generally get soup noodles, several cold dishes from the counter, and maybe the beef wrap/burrito depending on how hungry we are. The employees don't speak much English but are friendly and you'll see patrons of all ethnicities eating here because people come for the FOOD. It's a very tiny restaurant but the dishes come out quick so the wait is never too long (5-10min maybe). Bonus: They take credit card! NOTE: When the menu says spicy...it really IS spicy. Ahhh.. the great battle between food quality and customer service. Without a doubt, Sue's kitchen exudes a family owned restraunt vibe serving up quality food. The side dishes that you can ask on demand are fresh and to the point which is the highlight of this establishment. Noodles are slightly under flavored, but other wise, strait to the point. The chinese burrito is my favorite. In terms of service, this place is another story. There is only one person who takes orders who can remotely speak english, and he has the worst case of 'my mom makes me work here' type of attitude. We asked another staff (who couldn't speak the local language) for a small soup, and what we got was a large soup. I insisted that I asked for a small and the mama's boy responds, "you didnt tell him small!" as if to say I couldn't order correctly when clearly they have a problem taking them. I wouldn't necessarily call it the best beef noodle soup ever, but it's pretty good, especially if you like it with beef tendon (or half and half, beef + beef tendon). First time I came here was in the mid-80's. I moved away from the South Bay and recently had a chances to come back and try it for the nostalgia. The food is much worse then I remember. The beef noodle tasted like instant noodles - doused in chili sauce and soy sauce, but with not much beef flavor. A&J is much better. This place used to at least have a homey, friendly, diner feel - now it just feels lonely and decrepit. Would not come back. No longer the same owners. The current owners are just trading on the name. For anybody that grew up in Torrance, just know that this is not the Sue's Kitchen of yore. read more

If you come here, I'd only vaguely recommend two items: the cold appetizer peanuts, and perhaps the beef noodle soup although I have had much better. On recent trips here I have had the dan dan noodles, the peanut noodles, and mi-fun. All of those were not well-prepared. If I overcooked noodles and then put peanut butter on it with nothing else, I'd get the same effect as what they served me - the peanut noodles were so dry that you could barely untangle the noodles from each other, and the entire bowl of noodles would lift up as one clump. The mi-fun was clearly not pan fried but rather steamed with an entire egg-omlette(?) hidden underneath without explanation. Service is you having to go up to the counter to ask for refills on tea and water, which I suppose isn't a big deal since this place is tiny and overpacked with tables. Really just didn't enjoy the food here, or the lack of service. It's unfortunate because I know this establishment has been around for decades, but really they can do a lot better. read more

This is a Chinese cuisine, Taiwanese Food. Small sitting area, circulation of air is not that great. Can be be very Hot and congested if the place is full with customers. Just like the food, HOT & Spicy in many of their menu. But, if you like spicy food, the foods are great. I recommend to try the Taiwanese Beef Noodle, Pork, and some of the sides; Tofu, Marinated Cucumbers, Sea Weed.... they are all not bad. Most of the time, I buy them to go. Most of the foods here may not appeal to the American palate (my family and some friends didn't like it), but in my opinion this is some of the best Chinese food you'll find in the South Bay. The beef noodle soup tastes just as great as the ones I had in China/Taiwan. The texture, the broth, the aroma, the flavor... it's hard to find anywhere else. The cold dishes are delish too... Ok, I'm a little annoyed. I'm currently on the phone with Sue's Kitchen to place an order for dinner. Lady picks up the phone and I order "Two Beef Noodle Soups. One with glass noodles and one with 'regular' noodles. I say 'regular' because I don't really know if they are egg noodles or not. The lady can't understand me, yet she repeats the 'glass noodle' order to someone in the kitchen in Mandarin. A man comes on the phone and I repeat my order. He pauses for a long time, and repeats only the 'glass noodle' order. He then puts the phone down and DOESN'T COME BACK ON. It's been 5 minutes of me listening to air and/or them talking to patrons in Mandarin. I keep saying 'HELLO??' over the phone. Minutes pass, and they finally hung up on me. Now I'm mad. read more

Legit Chinese food at absolutely unbelievably low prices. Beef noodle soup? That'll be $6.50 please. For a huge bowl of legit beef noodle soup. And no, you did not magically just time warp back to the 80s. How this place stays afloat is beyond me, but likely has to do with their work ethic: open 7 days a week, and yes, even on holidays (well, at least New Year's Day and New Year's Eve!). How's the food? Nothing fancy, not the best I've ever had but definitely legit. Think homemade green onion pancake, homemade dumplings, etc. They have a wide range of noodle soups, a la carte dishes, appetizers, and cold stewed plates. For a party of 4, we paid less than $40, and that was including tip. And we each had an entree plus some form of side dish. Where else can you find these prices?! I have had amazing Taiwanese breakfast in the 626 so this place does not live up to my standards but I enjoy a close Taiwanese breakfast place. I like how they don't use MSG, but the ingredients they used in the green onion pancake and the beef roll did not seem fresh. The beef roll didn't have any sauce of cilantro which was extremely off in the flavor. The green onion pancake did not really have any green onion so we were just chewing on stale fried dough. I really like A&J's spicy beef noodle soup but I think Sue's is bigger, better, and cheaper. In addition, you can request some cold appetizers from the counter while you wait. I really liked these refreshing small bites. They were simple, clean on the palate, and good. I highly recommend the peanuts as other reviewers have mentioned. While eating peanuts with chopsticks was something unorthodox to me, I must confess they were down right addicting. **Spicy Peanuts** --Pan fried in chili oil with sugar and a hint of BBQ seasonings and salt. Very good and very addicting. **Cold Tofu skin** Simple, refreshing, and light. I believe these are lightly marinated in sesame oil, salt, and vinegar. I love the texture. **Cold celery** Crisp cold celery tossed in what tasted like sesame oil, soy, and sugar. A nice palate cleansing dish. **Spicy Beef Noodle Soup** --Fat/wide noodles, rich spicy dark broth, and tender beef. The noodles are handmade and chewy. The broth is bold and flavorful. The beef is fall-apart-tender. I think this soup is as good as any I've had at A&J's. **Scallion Pancakes** --Nothing different than others I've had but good nonetheless. **xiao long bao dumplings** --I think I'll leave it to DTF for these. Get there early because this restaurant gets really busy.This is Authentic Chinese with dishes I've never seen before like the Chinese Burrito I ordered. This Burrito had a crispy outside with lots of flavor. The Inside of the Burrito was stuffed with lean Meat and Veggies. It was Fantastic and comes highly recommended. Sue's Kitchen also has delicious Noodle Bowls that are huge and is very popular with the customers. I will be back to try one one those for sure. Parking is limited but free. It's so good that it's better than most of the beef noodle soups I've had in Taiwan! Their fried rice and tsa sao fan is really good too, but if you're a first timer you have to try the beef noodle!! If you can take it, order it extra-spicy! Their only flaws.. six measly tables and CASH ONLY!! Sue's Kitchen is my jam! Let me tell you what to get. Of course, beef noodle soup; yes, everyone knows about their 牛肉麵. If it's your first time here, yes, get this. Bonus points to you for trying the tendon. You gotta get some cold dishes too, excellent taste to price ratio right there. You can't go wrong with any of them, but their smoked pork and spicy beef are both something special. When you come back again, try the fried fish plate for some of the lightest, crispiest fried fish you done ever had in a Chinese restaurant. And when you come back for a third time, try their Dan Dan Noodles and Wonton in Hot Chili Oil to get your spicy on. But that didn't ruin my appetite for good beef noodle soup (It's the first one on the menu) with "shao long pao (pork dumplings)." My first time here after reading good reviews on beef noodle soup/pancake, so I decided to give it a shot. Verdict: Not Good and NOT HONEST! (Read on, you will see why) Service: Not friendly. I was not greeted when I walked in and no acknowledgement when I walked out. Food: Mediocre and bland. Nothing more to say. Peter's Place next door has better rice platter/bento at about the same price. Honesty: I was charged $19 total and I gave a $20, expecting a dollar bill back. Instead, the cashier fumbled through the coin rack in the register and stacked up the change in a vertical manner with his fingers covering it so I can't see the coins as he dropped them into my hand. Not thinking much about it, I dropped the change into my pocket. It was not until I got home, and wanting to feed my piggy bank with the coins, that I saw 3 quarters and a nickel. They are all in silver so it's hard to tell them apart if you don't look. It is not the insignificant amount that bothered me, but it was their DISHONESTY in trying to trick their customers out of their money and their business integrity that bothered me.
