After seeing this place over and over again on Instagram, I decided to go ahead and give it a try. I kept seeing all of these amazing pastries on their Instagram page through promotions and I just kept thinking "man!!I gotta try them out!" WELL THE TIME FINALLY CAME!!! Finding the place was a bit tricky as it's right on Madison! Not off to the side, not on the corner, but right on Madison. And the store front doesn't stick out for the other establishments next to it. The parking isn't the best either but I made it work. Walking into the bakery, I will be honest, it wasn't what I was expecting. Because it says bakery but it's more like a cafe. I haven't been to too many bakeries that offer drinks, and meals. It's also very....Seattle. Out of the ordinary, something you wouldn't expect, but something that makes sense for Seattle. Now when I go to bakeries I like to purchase multiple options for myself and family to try. They do have a lot of options but you also need to get there at a certain time as some items do sell out. I wasn't able to get the cinnamon roll but that's okay. I'll get it next time. Ordered 2 snickerdoodles 1 lemon cookie 1 lavender cookie 1 red velvet cupcake 1 almond croissant The service was kind and fast, she packaged my items and I was on my way. The cupcake was delicious! I hate shops that give a small amount of frosting for cupcakes. This place has it down! The frosting was nice, thick, and plentiful, the cupcake itself was quite dense and so the two pair well together. My partner ate it very fast and asked for another lol The snickerdoodles were perfect! Soft and delicious. My brother said the lemon cookie was good as well with an exception of the large sugar crystals. I felt the lavender cookie was too small, but it was good nonetheless. Now....that almond croissant...it is the best croissant I've ever had. Double baked, topped with almond slices and powdered sugar. Stuffed with the almond filling, omg. It is a airy, crispy, soft, and delicious all at the same time. I would literally come here just for the croissant!! BUT CAUTION!!! The croissant is only available on Tuesday and Thursdays. But so worth the wait in between! I highly recommend them! I took 1 star off because again, I feel the lavender cookie is small, and the cookies in general are pretty standard in taste. I stopped in here because I was going to miss my ferry and needed to study and they have free wifi and open until 8. The place was nice and warm on a cold rainy night! I wanted a cheesecake bite but they were out and I'm so glad they were because I got the scone with jelly and it was literally the BESSSST jelly I've ever had in my entire life!? Amazing. And the girl working there was so sweet. I just would've liked some brighter lighting and a wall plug to charge my computer but I couldn't find one. Block away from Virginia Mason hospital makes it a definite choice and option on my walk home from my appointments. I never can stop here when I am in my car. I think there is a parking lot behind the building but it might be for the hospital. Located on market st has to be difficult for them because of the construction going on for the last two years (city is replacing pipes because they are too small and old dating them back to 1906). Looking at the customers there, I believe they receive a ton of foot traffic from the neighborhood. Several at that time were residents from the various hospitals close by the bakery. The food is great. Staff friendly, professional and efficient. They also offer frequent buyer programs through square which I hadn't known they used. Seven purchases for a reward. I can definitely participate and will give me incentive to make the effort to return. Not that I need help as this literally has to be one of the best bakeries I have experienced. I've been to Sugar Bakery a few times now and have been impressed with their quality and variety! For my recent birthday, I ordered the creme brulee cake since I love caramel. I placed an order for the 8 in ($66) online on Saturday night and it was ready for pickup on Monday morning. They texted me to notify when it was ready, which I appreciated. The cake was sooo thick and really delicious with the cake having a toasted sugar flavor on the bottom, topping with caramel, and a delicious cream filling. Multiple people asked where the cake was from and I noticed their slices were finished even though the cake was quite large. The cake itself was dry in some parts but it for the most part, it wasn't noticeable while eating it with the filling. I also picked up a vegan muffin for my friend and he enjoyed it. I've enjoyed their almond croissant in the past and it is of similar quality to Le Panier by Pike's. Overall, I'm excited to try more of their offerings although it can be pricy. I wanted to have some cake slices for my birthday in January 2022, and I decided on this place. I tried their confetti birthday cake, pink champagne cake, and crème brûlée cake. I remember the cakes being a bit dry and bland. I usually like my cakes really dense and moist so maybe it was just my expectations or my preferences for cakes that disappointed me. An example is that I was hyped up for their crème brûlée cake. I know the burnt sugar on the outside was the whole point, but it just came off as straight up bitter in some bites. But yeah I didn't really enjoy the cake slices. Or, at least, they didn't leave any impression on me. And they were on the more expensive side, given the portion. They're even willing to answer questions over the phone about what they have in store for the day which is super nice since I'm from out of town and was looking to buy some specific pastries. They had a sign to allow only few customers inside at a time and the customers needs to wait outside for their order to be brought out to them. No inside dining when I visited last week. There were limited seating outside for people to sit and wait. Thankfully, it was a sunny day. Service was typical average and it was a busy time when I dropped by. The croissant and the Danish were light, flaky, crispy yet chewy. Exactly how I like my croissants. Definitely will go again when I am in the neighborhood or when I get a craving for croissant. So far, one of few places I like their croissants in seattle. The rating is based on the delightful food, covid rule adherence and enforcement, and fast enough polite service. In summer of 2019, my sister and her family were on an Alaskan cruise, having a great family vacation when my brother-in-law suddenly crashed and was airlifted to Seattle. I flew out to help as the kids were only 6 & 9. We were staying at the Baroness Hotel, owned by the hospital Virginia Mason fir family members of out of town patients. Sugar Bakery is at the end of the parking lot behind The Baroness. The 6 year old and I made our visits to Sugar Bakery for my coffee and her cookie as a respite. The sweet environment, friendly staff, delicious sweets and great coffee gave us so much comfort and some lovely moments during a very difficult time. The Staff went out of their way to deliver to Swedish Hospital, because their 3rd party vendor doesn't work with the Hospitals yet. The original delivery driver spent time trying to translate then headed down the wrong path for engaging with people...Something that never needed to happen. I appreciated that the Bakers/Restauranteurs who answered the phone (Sean?) offered options to fit with their policies/procedures. We found a different solution of dropping the items by with the hospital volunteers. Also, I felt like they would have offered a cancellation in a positive way. Bonus: They didn't put down the person who attempted delivery. Even if that person's path wasn't the best at that moment...Language, Seattle, Hospitals...it's all hard. Nice place in lower Queen Anne, near climate pledge arena. I always get the pecan cookie and a hot vanilla latte. Lots of seating , nice bathrooms, and not as friendly here anymore, but order is always right. That's what counts for me. My son took me to this place today, I had a cup of Latte, my son had a Chai Latte. Both drinks were so amazingly delicious! It was so good so I forgot to take a picture of it. Although my latte was so good but I noticed only one barista working for everything from taking order to create drinks, restocking items and such. He looked super busy but so kind to us so I started worry about him. I used the bathroom on the way we left the shop. The bathroom was relatively clean but I noticed dirty paper towels were around the trash bin I usually don't do this but since he was only one person working for the entire shop and he was so busy so I just wanted help. I picked up the trash by the bin and placed them inside. I don't think one barista is enough for the entire operation of the shop, I hope there were more ppl in the counter so I could enjoy my drink w/o worry about super busy barista.
