I love this place! I make it a point to stop by whenever I'm in the neighborhood, and it consistently delivers. The people who work here are some of the nicest ever, really. I can't speak for the coffee, but their cheese bagel is otherworldly. Simple, yet scrumptious. I should probably try something else on the menu, but I can't pass up the opportunity to have my bagel. I do plan to try one or two of their cakes at some point, though. This is a really cute little bakery, I enjoyed eating there. The waitstaff are friendly and helpful. They got my order wrong at first, which wasn't really their fault, they had forgotten to put a sign on the thing I wanted to I ended up pointing and they mistook what I was pointing at was all, but they were very nice about it and quickly switched out for what I had wanted. The warmed brie-proscuttio sandwich had that chewy bread that really pulls on your teeth, and was rich in flavor without being over the top. The Vietnamese coffee is like this little party happening in your teacup, and was rich and smooth. Last time I visited Sugar Bakery and Cafe was after I was poked, prodded, and squished at one of the nearby First Hill medical facilities. I still remember the beautiful Eiffel Tower sugar cookie I bought to cheer myself up. This spontaneous visit was after visiting the nearby Frye Art Museum and scored a parking spot across the street. Pro tip: jaywalking is a death wish on Madison despite being close to many hospitals, use either of the proximate crosswalks instead! I enjoy indie flying under the radar bake shops. Lovely pastry case, pleasant counter person, and open air pastry station where one can see all the baking action. I ended up buying treats for The Homie, a cinnamon brioche and a giant Red Velvet cupcake. I also bought an assortment of cookies, one included a chocolate chip bacon. Sweet and savory combo that actually worked. Definitely worth a stop if you find yourself in Seattle's First Hill neighborhood and business district. read more

We were ready for some dinner but I saw Sugars advertisement on our walk from the hotel! Ive not walked into a bakery in years and figured it was time to at least smell that sweet ambrosia once more, and give the kiddos a little treat. Forgive me, I forgot the name of the young lady who served on us, but she was awesome, explained and looked up ingredients that were friendly for my lifestyle, I cannot consume a lot of grain based foods and she helped me narrow down some items I could try! The lemon polenta cake was fantastic! I split half for eating the next day, was moist, a bit crumbly, but the fun is getting the crumbs in my opinion. Both kiddos got a frosted sugar cookie that looked like the galaxy with star sprinkles, super cute and they enjoyed them, like, not shoved it down their throats as quick as possible, but took their time to taste and admire the colors. This place saved my ass a few months ago. I needed a birthday cake last minute and found this hidden gem while calling around to bakeries. I was able to order a cake online and pick it up in just two hours. The location has this little alley parking area, and the line moves quickly. The chocolate cake was so rich and decadent!!! It also held really well for a few days after and made the best midnight snack. Thank you for the best cake experience and we will be back for more cakes. Service os horrible. As a DD and Uber they don't acknowledge you when your there orders are never ready. They want toy to wait in back of line for orders sitting there. No one smiles most of the employees are rude. One lady can't even under stand her English good. I'll decline all future orders from this place after today. Worst of all the restaurants I pick up from. We don't wait in line you say show me name and give us the order so we can be in our way we are not ordering shyt. I came into Sugar on my way to an intimate dinner party at a friends home in Seattle unsure of what I would be leaving with. I was in town on business and didn't know the cake scene well so referred to Yelp for help. The full cake choices were limited but the Carrot cake they had on display looked delectably moist with the perfect ratio of cream cheese frosting to cake. I inquired with the cake-man behind the counter who said the carrot was supposedly a crowd favorite. Upon further questioning I found that he said that about all the cakes. Nonetheless, the carrot cake had already caught my admiring eye and I would be leaving with it and it only. I was overcome with excitement as I got into my car and drove to the dinner party, the cake sitting in the passenger seat beside me like a well behaved passenger. Upon arrival and realization that there would be an entire dinner course I would have to wait through my conversations with other guests were overshadowed by the lingering longing for the carrot cake that was patiently waiting on the counter unsuspecting to the other guests. After what seemed like endless conversations and delicious courses of appetizers and a main meal it was time for the cake to be brought out! My eyes widened as our hostess opened the box to reveal a beautiful but simple carrot cake. We cut into the cake and passed pieces around as the room fell silent, only the clicking of forks on plates as the guests dug into their cakes. Within minutes the entire cake was gone and I found myself picking up any remaining crumbs I could find with my hands. It was a crowd favorite. As I write this review 3 days later, I have thought about that cake every day since. Quite easily the best carrot cake I've ever had. read more

We were walking past the bakery on the way back from dinner. I was drawn in by the smell and the visual from the window. We had no idea what time it was. The girl at the counter told us she was just closing up. I looked at my phone and saw it was 8:01pm. They close at 8pm. We said we just wanted some cookies.
