Sugar Bliss is located right in the heart of The Loop, a truly prime spot. When we walked in on a Saturday afternoon, the display case was nearly empty with only 1.5 shelves out of 4 stocked. I only wanted a small treat so I asked for two minis at $1.75 a piece. Apparently they only come in boxes of 4 or 6, so I bumped my order up to 4. I was a little annoyed, because if SB is only going to sell these minis in larger quantities, the menu should reflect this instead of stating individual prices. 4 cupcakes ended up costing me $7.50, which is pretty steep. When I questioned the lady about what the flavors of the minis were she dryly said "they're the same as the big cupcakes...." Super snippy, especially considering that there were different mini cupcakes then big cupcakes. In my box I got: -Chocolate on Chocolate: My personal fave. Moist cake and a fudgy frosting in a cute floral shape; no complaints here! -Red Velvet: The cake was so DRY and completely flavorless! Great cream cheese frosting though. -Banana Peanut Butter: Again, so DRY! Rich peanut butter frosting on top. -Chocolate Toffee: Why did it have Peppermint Frosting? I'm wondering if the frosting for the Peppermint Chocolate mini was mixed up with the plain chocolate frosting for the Chocolate Toffee mini? Moist cake, but the only Toffee was the sprinkling on top... and it didn't go well with peppermint frosting. Overall, not my favorite cupcake shop in the city. A little too expensive and not everything was executed flawlessly, including their choice of service. read more

I arrived at this location because of my sons 10th birthday and he loves sweets. Being that it's his 10th, I was trying to move in another direction as far as cakes. I also work directly across the street so this was a win-win for me. After passing this location plenty of times I decided to go in. I decided on the Red Velvet cupcake for me and the Double Chocolate cupcake for him. They were both $3.95 each which wasn't bad for the size. These cupcakes were delicious, moist, and flavorful. I actually paused for 2 minutes after eating my Red Velvet cupcake. It was perfect, and wasn't messy at all considering the cream cheese frosting. My son enjoyed his cupcake so much that it was gone in less than 2 minutes. The real reason to visit this place is the customer service though. The 2 young ladies that helped me decide on a cupcake and how to store them were awesome. They were down to earth and even wrapped my sons cupcake box for $1 when I told them it was for his birthday. I work at the building right across the street from this place and I've always wanted to try it. The decor is just so inviting. It's pink and feels warm and comfortable. I came here after work one day and believe it or not, there was a small line to get in. The street entrance was blocked so I had to enter through the Palmer House, which was convenient. They have a variety of pastries ranging from cookies, brownies, cake pops and my favorite things in the world, macarons! They have a huge variety of macaron flavors, and I'm hoping to try them all one day, but for 2.50$ a piece, maybe I'll take it day by day. I also noticed that they sell coffee (hot and cold drinks), make breakfast platters and even serve sweet or savory crepes. You don't expect breakfast at a pastry shop, but I'm really tempted to try it. I was in the mood for a cookie that day, so I decided to go for that. Every flavor was tempting, but I played it safe and went with the chocolate chip cookie since this was my first time at this place and I'm really glad I did. This cookie is out of this world. I placed a order for 50 cake pops way over priced at 189.00 but, i needed them so i went ahead with the order. I asked for 25 with pink strawberry cake in the inside dipped in pink with pink and white sprinkles the other half vanilla cake (white ) dipped in pink with white and pink sprinkles. I get there now it's 195.00 I was charged for every customization. The owner was in and was eating a pastry she hears me asking about the high up charges . I was told 189.00 got there and it had went up to 195.00. So she comes up to the register and it explains why it was where it is. So the event comes I'm watching people eat the cake pops and there's no pink strawberry cake pops. I asked for pink in the inside so many times and even when the owner was at the register i told her the same thing. I called this morning and talked to a manager that didn't care at all. Told me that he's the store manager and there's no one else for me to speak to about the matter that him or the other associate remembers me stating this. Mind you she was new and was having a hard time. He's the manager and i definitely confirmed my order with him. So conversation gos on he said sorry for the issue that's it he said it in a tone that showed he didn't care at all. Would give this zero stars if possible. I stopped by on a Friday afternoon,around 3:00PM. There was a sign on the door saying "be back in 5 minutes". I figured I would wait. A lady inside with tattoos saw me as I stood there; I figured she may be on lunch or something (totally understandable). 15 minutes went by, she looked at me still waiting outside just to turn her back on me. I will start off by saying I was very impressed with the customer service upon placing a specialty order for work but it went downhill fast when it came time to pick up the order. I placed an order for 18 regular sized cupcakes. They were to be each put in an individual brown box with an edible "thank you" put on top of the icing and ribbon around the box. Total $97.50. I placed my order with Carla, who was the manager. She was friendly and helpful and accommodating. I did order 1 Gluten Free cupcake which was labeled with a "GF" on the box. I was to pick up my order in 2 days. When I came to pick up my order, I wasn't happy. She failed to tell me that they ran out of the "thank you" for 2 of the cupcakes. They had to use instead a "thinking of you" which didn't fit the work theme we ordered the cupcakes for. I also had to wait for those to be put on the cupcakes. Why wasn't I contacted by phone about this? The cupcakes we ordered were a variety of 7 different cupcakes - none of them were labeled on the outside of the box so employees could choose which cupcake they'd like to have. That makes no sense - so essentially, a person was given a box, didn't know what kind of cupcake it was, opened the box for the possibility of getting a cupcake flavor they don't want or like. This could of been planned better I feel. If I order from them again, I will have to give specific instructions so this doesn't happen again but in all honesty, with this type of order, I don't feel I should have to. read more

Located in the Palmer House Hotel, Sugar Bliss is a small shoppe with very friendly employees, but a very limited selection. I came in looking for a breakfast pastry but there were none available, so instead I had a couple of cookies and a trail mix bar. The Sea Salt Chocolate Chip cookie was very large, thick, and yummy; the sea salt chocolate chip chunks were bold and gave the soft cookie a crunch coated with just enough salt to add a bright bite to it. I had to try the Snickerdoodle cookie and was blown away by its sugary cinnamony richness! I heated mine up and it added a dimension of warmth that made me smile from ear to ear. Outside of the usual style of pastries, Sugar Bliss also makes really filling granola bars. I bought one and it was so full of flavor, I think it's my favorite item here, and I will buy one when I'm near by and have a long day ahead of me. I was looking for dessert in the area and found this place on yelp. I ordered the nutella crepe. We took a seat at a table and patiently waited for our crepe. Since it took about 5 minutes or so, I thought it was a good sign that the crepe would be hot and fresh. Our crepe was brought to our tablet and it sure did look good. After one bite, I quickly realized that crepe was a bit dry and also barely warm. There was A LOT of nutella in it, but unfortunately it wasn't even warmed through. I came across this bakery while walking downtown and thought it looked adorable so I decided to try a variety of their sweets. Everything was pretty good with some items better than other. The cupcakes were very aesthetically pleasing as you can see in the picture. I like the way they applied the icing in flower patterns and added small touches to make them look even more delicious. Some of them tasted better than others though. My favorite was the raspberry lemonade. The flavors mixed perfectly together and were very fresh and tangy. The champagne cupcake on the other hand was horrible. It tasted like soap and was inedible. The red velvet cupcake was okay, the cake itself was quite dry compared to the other cupcakes but the icing was delicious. The macaroons again were a mixed bag. The strawberry was my personal favorite and it was soft and sweet while the fruity pebble flavor was my least favorite. The fruity pebble one was very chewy and stale while it had an artificial flavor to it. The Rice Krispie was another highlight as it was fresh, soft, and chewy, as well as very festive. The one we ordered was full of cheese and veggies. We also ordered a chocolate croissant. The croissant was a bit small, but very tasty. The cafe is pretty small, but it is bright and clean. This new storefront caught my eye so I came in and was spoiled with a selection of very high quality pastries. It's been about four months since my last trip to Paris but the macaroons and tarts satisfied my cravings as the pastries are as good as anything I've eaten in Paris. In chatting with the staff, it was mentioned that the owner actually studied how to make it all in Paris so it's easy to see why everything tastes delicious and is to a high standard. The macaroons were soft and light as they should be with a mix of Americanized flavors like oatmeal raisin which I loved. Just as great were the tarts and I took home half the flavors today and will return again to try the rest. There's a lot of goodies of various sizes but as a personal preference, I'm also glad that the pastries are baked with a focus on quality not just quantity as the portion is just as it should be and not too big. My friend and I came in here about a month ago, and we were enjoying looking at all the various pastries and macaroons. My friend mentioned that he felt like a coffee. Lovely shop next to the Palmer House hotel. I LOVE macarons especially lemon or passion fruit. They had both of those flavors as well as a large selection of other flavors. I bought one lemon and one passion fruit macaron and unfortunately they were subpar for my taste. The lemon macaron was beautifully crispy and then chewy but the inside filling was too sweet for me without that hit of lemony tang that I expect from a macaron. Unfortunately the passion fruit macaron was dry and crumbly when I bit into it. However the passion fruit filling was tasty. Had the macaron been executed better, it would've been a hit. There are now more patisseries/bakeries that offer delicious macarons. One on Division and Paulina is my favorite hands down as they have amazing flavor and are executed well.! :-) read more

This place is so cute and the treats I had were delicious. It really is just the cherry on top that this is a female owned patisserie! I had the macarons. Cookies and cream, so good!! The person I was with and cheese had the gluten free brownie which she said was also super delicious. Plus it's always exciting to find a place with good gluten free brownie! (Per the tag) the buttery oat base is flavorful and chewy. The hint of coffee is lost on me, as is the captain crunch. I enjoyed it with an iced americano. Coffee was strong and smooth. While I was here I saw a wide range of people stopping in for treats. The staff is friendly and provide great customer service. The cookies would bring me back! read more
