Sugar grits in right off Beale in downtown Memphis. I chose this place as it was close to my hotel. Upon entering I was impressed with their lighting and overall ambiance of the restaurant. The food menu is what you would expect and they offer a lot of grits plates served with fish and other proteins. The food was tasty! Their biscuits are huge! Only reason for three stars was very slow service and automatic gratuity was added. I always tip above 20 percent but not being told it was included already caught me off guard.

I would give this place negative stars if it was an option. The service is terrible not one server has any sense of urgency, we waited over 10 minutes to even be acknowledged, another 10 minutes to receive our drinks. The restaurant is disgusting your shoes stick to the floor when you're walking, I wouldn't feed the food to my dogs. The bacon was microwaved and near raw, the sausage was burnt, the grits were dry, the toast was served completely dry no butter and they don't bring any butter, jellies or jams for you. Hospital cafeteria food is better than what we were served not to mention the food we ordered did not match the menu. I wish I had went to the restroom before we ever sat down because I saw immediately 5 roaches in the floor. This restaurant needs to be shut down!!

Wound up here by accident but grateful for the change of plans. Several reviews mention the wait time and it may have been a little longer than one might like but the food was great, as was the service. We were hungry and over ordered. The biscuit board was a treat! The biscuits were delicious and seemed truly scratch made. Husband had the cinnamon roll stack AND French toast. It was a lot of food! He loved the cinnamon rolls and said French toast was good but rolls were better. We did leave with leftovers. I saw lots of grits being ordered and will try those next time. Worth a try. Be patient. The workers appear to be doing their bests.

Came to visit from Chicago and found this spot on Yelp! We arrived on Sunday morning about 10a and had no wait. Place looked ok and was clean. Ordered a few dishes and drinks. I only have it 3 stars because the food lacked flavor. The customer service was great! The male waiter was very nice and helpful. If I choose to go again I'll definitely make sure I order the cheese grits instead of the plain.

Biscuits and gravy. Waffle with blueberries.

Visited on a random Tuesday morning at 10 am. Disinterested waitress. Slow service. No ambiance when we got here. No music playing at first. Forgot part of our order. Food was basic. The biscuit was good. The waffle was limp. It looked like a slightly warmed up eggo waffle. Watered down soda.

Stopped in to grab a bite. We waited 10-15 minutes, along with 2 other groups, to be seated. It was not crowded, but there was only one server. We weren't in a hurry, so it wasn't enough to make us leave as we really wanted to try the food. Once seated, we waited another 10 minutes just to get water. Our server was really nice and showed no signs of frustration or being overwhelmed, so this was a plus. I actually felt sorry for him. I ordered catfish and fries, and it arrived hot. The fish was good but could have stood to be a little more seasoned (personal preference). The fries were good, but I didn't really eat them because I like ranch dressing with my fries. The ranch was very thin and watery and was not tasty. I asked the server why it was this way and he said it was a house dressing. It wasn't a terrible experience, and I would be willing to give them another chance and perhaps try another dish that doesn't require ranch dressing.

Everything was amazing. Started with the praline beignets. Then I got the Charleston cheddar (shrimp and grits). Amazing! My sister got the fish and grits which was also delicious. We both got the Just Peachy for our cocktails which was refreshing. Highly recommend!

Decided to stop by for an early Sunday breakfast. Was told it was a 20 min wait but got sat in about 10. Our server was new but she was really sweet. The menu had some good options. We decided to get the biscuits and gravy , omelette and chicken fried steak. Everything was good but we could've had more gravy on the biscuits and gravy and the chicken fried steak. The biscuits were reallly good. Very tasty and overall a good experience.

Bloody Mary was great. Breakfast bowl was mild in flavors. I usually think food is too salty but i had to add salt and pepper just to elevate the flavors. Overall good... next time will try something else on the menu.

Good breakfast spot in downtown Memphis with generous portions. The biscuits are massive--you can really only enjoy the top half of the biscuit with the toppings. The service was a bit slow, but it was a last-minute decision and we were just happy to grab a quick bite nearby. Overall, a solid choice for a filling breakfast!

    Proof we were here..

I took the advice, and I'm really glad I did. It was fantastic--stacked with pulled pork, smoked sausage, and beef brisket, all topped with slaw and BBQ sauce on a bun. I also tried a bite of the barbecue bologna, which is a thick-cut slice served on white bread, and that didn't disappoint either. Inside gets pretty smoky, so you'll probably prefer sitting outside. Sunrise Memphis did not disappoint. We stopped in around 12:30 p.m. on a Wednesday and didn't experience any crowds or much of a lunch rush. That being said, after eating here, I completely understand why people mention waiting hours on weekends. The ordering process is simple: walk up to the counter, place your order, grab a number, and seat yourself. I appreciated that they offer both breakfast and lunch all day because it meant we didn't have to choose between the two. I ordered the chicken tenders with tater tots and an Arnold Palmer. Everything was fresh, hot, and exactly the kind of comfort food you crave in the middle of a long road trip. Kyler ordered the Kitchen Sink, which came with eggs, bacon, hash browns, grits, and a biscuit. He asked if he could swap the cheesy grits and biscuit for biscuits and gravy, and they ended up bringing him everything anyway! It was a massive meal, but absolutely delicious. Beyond the food, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I also loved the fun, eclectic atmosphere. The colorful Memphis touches throughout the restaurant gave it so much personality, and there was even a bar area that made me think this would be an absolute blast for brunch with friends. Sunrise Memphis ended up being one of our favorite surprises of the entire drive. If you're passing through town, do yourself a favor and stop here.

I ordered the Juniper Benedict and my friend ordered the loaded biscuits and gravy. The bacon potatoes were cooked perfectly, soft and slightly crunchy with plenty of cheese and bacon. The eggs in my eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly and they used a regular house-made biscuit that soaked up the egg yolks perfectly. The restaurant was pretty big, but the ambiance felt like a small-town diner. The staff was super kind and attentive, too. The cost is par for the course for a nice diner in a big city. Later during the meal, he admits that Momma's is one of his spots, so that's saying a lot. It sort of looked like another bar/restaurant from the outside, but they have a nice outdoor patio overlooking an old decrepit building which is at least some scenery. Once inside, you'll quickly see it's highly decorated and has a claim to be one of the only trucker themed bars in the US. Inside is decked out to the ceilings with signs, neon, old mirrors, collectibles, and many other items. I swear it looks like it's been in business for 30+ years, but my client said only a couple of years. I looked over the basic menu and saw burgers, breakfast, salads, sandwiches, a famous pork chop, wings and a few other items. The client and my colleague quickly ordered devilled eggs, cheese curds, and chili cheese fries. The first two apps were really good, I didn't try the fries though. They had a burger of the day, and a food special of the day, but I settled on the wings. With those I chose the 10 pc, Buffalo with dry rub, smoked. Kind of a weird combination since most people usually order dry here apparently, but I like saucy wings. When they come out, they are huge and I knew I wouldn't be able to finish them. I think I could only eat 6-7. My colleague had a ribeye steak salad which was a protein bomb he loved, and my 2 clients ordered a big rig grilled cheese which he also loved and a fried chicken sandwich (firebird) which looked really good. Overall, I really liked this place and it's one of the best meals I've had in Memphis the handful of times I've visited.

The food however was honestly meh (in my opinion). I got a creole dish and to be fair my dish looked beautiful. The plating was 10/10 but the taste for me left something to be desired. After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish).
