Every cupcake I've had from Sugar Ray's is so moist and delicious. The photo is from a couple of months ago, but I just tried the Peaches & Cream and Bourbon Pecan from this month's menu and they were sooooooo good. Sometimes when things are called peach flavor, you get very little peach and it's all just cinnamon, but the Peaches & Cream cupcake was full of peaches! I'm a huge fan of the cupcakes here.

Yummy cupcakes! I love that they rotate the flavors and there's so many different ones to choose from. The cupcakes are so moist and the flavors are all pretty good. They even stay moist and delicious in the fridge for the next day too. It's a cute little shop inside and it's very easy to buy and take out. There's a few small tables and chairs outside if you want to eat there but most people just take out to go.

I was really WOWED by this bakery! I wanted to get a cool cake for my husband's birthday and Sugar Ray's exceeded my expectations in both the successful execution of the design and the taste of the cake. I placed an inquiry on their website for a cake and I included a few pictures for reference. I was looking for a stylized cartoon cake. In addition to the photos (inspo from Pinterest) I also wrote a brief description of what I wanted. Shortly thereafter, someone from the bakery called to follow up and confirm that the cake could be made. I was quoted a price and asked for a credit card number to hold it. I placed the order on Wednesday for pick up on Friday afternoon. There were many cake fillings to choose from and I chose red velvet. When I picked up the cake, the girl at the counter was super-nice. She brought out the cake and I was able to view it before it was boxed. It looked so good! I was really thrilled with how awesome the cake looked- they really nailed the vision! Before I left, I noticed some cupcakes in their bakery case. They were really unique flavors, so I just had to try them, so I also got a peach cobbler and Snickers Cupcake. Boy, was I glad I did. They were so good! The buttercream frosting was divine, and the cake was moist and not overly sweet. I especially loved the peach cobbler cupcake. It had a delicate slice of peach on the top that somehow was really moist, and to my delight, it also had some peach chunks in the cupcake itself which were really good. When the cake was unveiled at the party, it was a huge hit! Everyone loved it and even better, I got so many complements on how great the cake was! It was a red velvet filling, and it was perfection! No doubt I will come here next time I need a cake or get a craving for cupcakes. Sugar Ray's makes great quality baked goods and based on how great the cake and cupcakes were, i am looking forward to trying other cake/ cupcake flavors. What a gem of a place!

I've been meaning to try this place for a while now but every time I remembered, it was too late and they were closed. I finally made it and it didn't disappoint. Strawberry cupcake - it reminds me of boxed strawberry cake. Same taste and smell but for me this isn't a bad thing. I liked it. Frosting was way too sweet for me but if you love frosting, this may be your jam. I would get it again. It was fluffy goodness. Brownie - So good and best of all, no nuts. My only regret was not having a glass of milk. Will definitely get one again. Chocolate chip cookies - Too sweet for my liking. I didn't realize it was filled with chocolate in the middle when I purchased it. It also seems to have perhaps cinnamon or nutmeg in it. I'm more of a crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, type but this one is all soft. It's good, I just prefer less sweet and some crunch. All a matter for personal preference. I'd skip this one next time but happy I tried it. Can't wait to stop by to try a new cupcake flavor. Prices are reasonable and service is great.

Inedible. everyone at our gathering threw it away including the kids. Ingredients were definitely missing and it only tasted like butter.

Cake was completely inedible, tasted like eating a stick of butter. Even the kids wouldn't eat it and we ended up throwing it out. It's as if they were in a hurry making it and forgot ingredients, also haphazardly adding way too much frosting. The bread was extremely dense. Wasted $85.

The shade of pink wasn't what I wanted, but the flavor was excellent!

I had never had anything from Sugar Ray's before ordering my birthday cake from them. I found them through IG and yelp and saw a couple of their cake designs that I really liked. I called to place the order and sent them the screenshot of the cake I wanted. I asked for it with a black background and was told that I couldn't get that because of how the icing would turn everyone's tongues black. I didn't mind that but agreed since they were adamant. I changed my color preferences saying "light pink with FUCHSIA, black, and gold leaf in the design." When I picked up my cake, what I got was definitely not fuchsia in the mix, but rather a kind of mauvey-reddish hue. I was quite displeased, but my party was in a few hours so I didn't have a choice. The staff tried to be accommodating by adding more gold leaf and apologized for my dissatisfaction. I still paid the full amount and took my cake to the party. They also put my faux flowers on the cake, which helped with the presentation but I was still disappointed as the color of pink (fuchsia) in the picture I showed them from their IG page was the actual color I wanted and I didn't think I needed to explain that to them. Fuchsia is fuchsia. Google it. Fast forward to my party when we had the cake... I got a lot of compliments on the cake and I tried to hide my dissatisfaction with its appearance not being exactly how I wanted. However, once we cut the cake and tasted it, I was EXTREMELY PLEASED with the flavor of the cake! I ordered the chocolate fudge brownie, even though I was a bit unsure of how it would taste. It tasted exactly like I hoped and exceeded my expectations! Everyone at the party loved the cake, even those who swear they hate chocolate cake! Moral of this story: my note to self is that when ordering a cake, even though you have a picture, it's probably best to go in person to place the order and show directly what you mean. Similarly, it may be best not to deviate from the colors of the picture. The original cake image from their IG page was really cute and I would've been pleased with it as depicted, but the colors just weren't exactly in alignment from my party theme. Considering all of this, I actually would go back and do business with Sugar Ray's again, but will take heed of the notes above.

Overall my experience with them wasn't the best but obviously people love them. Communication was so so and pick up day left me very anxious and frustrated when what we had thoroughly discussed wasn't done. We salvaged the situation and the cake presented well but it was not exact and the reaction I got from the owner wasn't great imho. Frosting was very very heavy and tasted better the next day or so. Still it was heavy and much of it got tossed. I would possibly not try them again in the future but I don't doubt others may enjoy their cakes and more.

would give 0 stars if I could. I put a request a couple weeks back with a photo and talked to some people to place the order and put in final requests. picked up the cake today and they forgot to write "happy birthday" had to tell them. and it looks nothing like the reference photo. they wouldn't help me or refund at all so now i'm stuck with an awful cake. I had really high hopes for this business i'm really hurt. this is unbelievable $310 for this. !!!!

Delicious cupcakes! This place is my brother's favorite cupcake spot and I can see why. I love their story & how they came to be. Their cupcakes are made fresh daily which is great. I haven't had a single bad cupcake from this shop. It was my brother's birthday recently so I had to stop by to pick up some cupcakes (pictured below). Every cupcake tasted as they were described with our favorite being the cookie butter. The Funfetti could've been a tad bit more moist but besides that, every cupcake I got was delicious. I'm sure her custom cakes are even better from the pictures I've seen online. If you're in the area & love cupcakes, look no further. This is your spot.

Great little place! Their cupcakes actually taste GOOD! Unlike other cupcake places that only care about presentation and how much icing they can pile on, the cupcakes here speak for themselves. The cupcake ATM is almost inedible compared to this place. They have seven different flavors available each day and a complete list of rotating flavors online. They have one table outside if you want to sit and eat, other than that it is standing room only inside. Individually cupcakes are $3. They look small, but once you start one you'll realize that they are just the right size. read more

Three words: Moist, fresh, and flavorful. These aren't your typical cupcakes and they are far from the grocery store variety. I tried the strawberry cupcake and was surprised by the fresh strawberries mixed into the frosting. Very pleasant surprise. This bake shop does not disappoint. read more

The cupcakes definitely taste good so no complaints there. We ordered vanilla, strawberry and chocolate flavors. They can work on their ordering process. I had to follow up multiple times regarding my order and in the end I was missing a dozen mini cupcakes. A total bummer. If they could work on this process they'd be golden. read more

These amazing bakers saved the day for a cake fiasco from a different bakery!! My mom had ordered a cake from a DIFFERENT restaurant/bakery for my BIG (60th) bday and when we arrived to pick it up this place had NOT decorated it at all as she had requested! It was basic white with baby blue frosting - something that could have been done at home and looked like a baby's cake!!! (Their cake decorator had left moments before we arrived, so they would do nothing to help us. And, I knew my friend had put together what I knew was going to be a beautiful evening with a dozen girlfriends and this cake was horrible!!!) So, we frantically began calling around to see who might embellish this cake to try and help make it look better, as the party was just a couple of hours away!! At 4:15 we reached, Maleena & Gigi at Sugar Rays!! Although closing at 5pm, they said 'bring it to us and we will help you'!!! They took the cake, scraped off all the frosting and made it absolutely stunning!!! We can't thank Sugar Rays enough!!! They really saved my birthday!! No girl likes seeing the calendar flip to 6-0!! And, if it's happening, then friends and a pretty cake are a must!!! read more

Omg these cupcakes give Sprinkles a run for their money. I came in 5 minutes before close and orders a half dozen. I bit into the Apple Carmel and they were super fresh, moist and flavorful. I like the fact that they aren't too sweet. Now the icing is light, flavored and add a nice sense of comfort. read more

The cupcakes are fantastic. In my book, they are better than any competition in town, including Sprinkles, etc. However, this appears to be a bit of a dilettante business because it is often closed during regular hours, and they are often sold out hours before closing. Like not once or twice or thrice...often. A good bakery becomes part of one's circle of services, in order to celebrate milestones, recognize special days, etc. When you depend on a business to provide a service and it is consistently closed (and I'm not talking about major holidays), you begin to look elsewhere for dependability. So that is a shame, and I hope the business grows in a way that values customers' time and patronage. Again, the baked goods are the goods. read more

I have finally found the cupcakes I've been looking for! These cupcakes are so moist and the icing isn't too sweet and the texture is so perfect. It doesn't taste like your biting into sugar. Grabbed a few cupcakes on a last minute whim for a birthday party this past week and they were outstanding. Not too sweet, perfectly moist, great selection of flavors, and I got a free one for being a veteran. I've only been to a few places like local bakeries, Sprinkles, etc.. over the past couple of years, but these are the best I've had in DFW. The Butterfinger was my favorite, but they have a plethora of other flavors to try next time, like tomorrow, and the day after, and all the other days I'll go. read more

The cupcakes here are delicious, but customer service is completely AWFUL! I had a a rare day off from work and made a special trip over, it was 3pm on a Wednesday and the doors were locked. Cupcakes still on the counter, the girl inside saw me and ignored me. I thought the hours were until 5? Hmm... then wanted to order special cupcakes for daughters birthday. My mom emailed asking if the date was available and they said yes, when my mom specified that we only needed 18 cupcakes suddenly they were completely booked. Best wedding cake I've ever eaten hands down! I decided I wanted cupcakes for my wedding and not a full tiered cake. I've been to quite a few weddings and used to work them, and none of the cake has ever been rave worthy. Sugar Rays is rave worthy. These cupcakes are phenomenal, and she has so many flavors to choose from! We did so many tastings because we just couldn't decide, and not once did she ever seem annoyed with me. I felt like I asked her for a million things including to remove the cream cheese from the frosting, and she always exceeded my expectations. I will say that the flavors I thought I would love were not my favorite, but a lot of the ones I never would have chosen were amazing. These cupcakes are a very decent size, and they're literally probably the best cupcakes I've ever eaten. Do yourself a favor and go try one. read more

Sugar Ray's is the BEST! I needed an order (last minute) of logo'd cupcakes for a client and NO ONE I called would help me! I found Sugar Ray's on Yelp and made the call. She asked me to send my company logo and emailed right back to say not a problem! I picked up the cupcakes and they were beautiful and tasted amazing! I love cupcakes-I was in the area, searched "bakeries" and I am glad I did...again, went in for a cupcake but saw beautiful macaroons and a giant coconut-chocolate chip cookies and ordered those instead! The vanilla bean macaroons were awesome, light, slightly crisp with an amazing filling-loved them. The coconut-chocolate chip cookie was probably the best cookie I have ever had. You could almost taste each ingredient...the coconut and chocolate of course but also vanilla, salt, brown sugar-cookie was fabulous. I will go back very soon and try a cupcake-and buy more cookies as well! read more

Sugar Ray's is the best of the best. The cupcakes are large, amazing flavors, and the frosting is perfect. Not the sickly sweet kind of frosting, just a very nice and generous portion of good stuff. This is my go-to place for family birthdays and when I want to take treats in to the office. Recently we had a large retirement party, and Rachel delivered several dozen cupcakes for us. They were beautiful and we received so many compliments on how great the cupcakes were. My favorite is Snickerdoodle, but every flavor we've had has been over the top. read more

I normally bake my own cakes and cupcakes from scratch but today is my husband's birthday and I have a shoulder injury and cannot imagine trying to bake his favorite, red velvet, one-handed. So I gave Sugar Ray's a try. Oh my deliciousness!!!! I make a good red velvet but Sugar Ray's does it even better! Moist, flavorful cake, smooth, creamy frosting. Everything tastes fresh and completely from scratch. Next time I need awesome baked goods this place will be my very first choice. read more

Moving to Dallas the only cupcake place I knew about was Sprinkles. One day my brother came home raging about these bite sized cupcakes. Knowing that my brother does not have a sweet tooth my train of thought was, "you don't know what you are talking about". However, to my surprise, my brother brought home a variety of cupcakes (7 to be exact). Sugar Ray cupcakes are now my all time favorite! I'm not a big fan of icing, but oh my goodness... The icing on every cupcake was unique and so delicious. I'm a big fan of red velvet, but after trying the coconut cupcake my life has forever been changed. read more

Their cupcakes are ok, but the real star is their macarons. they have the most delicious macarons ever, and I'm a long standing fan of LaDuree in Paris, so I know my macarons. They should really focus on those instead of the cupcakes since ever bakery in the metroplex has cupcakes. But the real issue is their service. They have very short inconvenient hours and even when you go during their normal business hours they are often closed. You have to order at least a week in advance even for a very small order. They are so inflexible and they are far from accomodating. read more

Oh my goodness, I have never had a better cupcake in my entire life. I am really picky with my food, and if I'm going to eat sweets I want it to be worthwhile. This was it and more. My husband and I just moved to Plano and my birthday was today so we were trying to find something awesome. We stumbled in with 10 minutes to spare before closing and the lady was just so nice and helpful. She even gave us a few restaurant suggestions. The prices are pretty good as well, but even if it was $10 per cupcake it'd be worth it! We had some macaroons too (which neither of us are usually fond of) but we both just loved them. This is the type of place that is worth driving a few hours for. We will definitely be back! read more

I took 2 dozen to a bridal shower with 15 women and had none left over :). We had vanilla bean, milk chocolate, iced lemon, and snickerdoodle. The central conversation of the shower was a debate over which flavor was the best. We never did reach consensus. Everyone was splitting them so they could taste the different flavors, and the decorative chocolate hearts on top were just darling. Everyone keeps asking where they came from. I have been blessed with not one but 32 sweet teeth and all were delighted with my experience with Sugar Ray's. From the extremely courteous young lady who answered the phone and put up with one thousand questions to the ridiculously good cupcakes it was a great experience. I have tried Sprinkles cupcakes before and they are dirty, stagnant pond water compared to these moist, delicious kisses from an angel. read more

I work across the street from Sugar Ray's and I am obsessed!! I would literally walk over and grab a cupcake any chance I got but then I realized if I kept going at that rate I would become diabetic haha! They are always fresh, and Rachel the owner constantly surprises me with new flavors, all of which are amazing! I am especially in love the coconut cream pie and red velvet! Established in 2011.

Sugar Ray's Bake Shop began baking for customers a in 2011. After operating out of my house for a few years my business exponentially expanded and I opened up Sugar Ray's Bake Shop's first location in Lakeside Market in Plano November of 2013. I have created my own recipes and have over 50 different flavors of cupcakes that are rotated for sale at the shop!

With such a prime location, you'd think they'd play up the indoor/ outdoor seating areas, make it cozy, charming music, a place to chill with friends over a cupcake. Instead, the inside felt like a doctors waiting room and the outside was damaged run down patio furniture and occupied with the local homeless. Four bucks per cupcake isn't outrageous, when its worth it. Ours, sadly, tasted like they were thawing out, still partially frozen. The frosting was sweet but didn't deliver a strong delicious flavor, no zip. We normally start saying "mmmmm" when something is divine but this was more like "oh no!" For $4 a pop, you'd expect a little magic and forks. Instead they disappeared into the trash, poof, $8.00 gone! We would have given our feedback to anyone who would listen, but honestly no one cared enough to check on us. I would have asked for a refund ...and we regret the 10 minutes of our time to stop by.
