The space is clean, stylish and comfortable. Staff members we interacted with were very friendly and efficient. The beer and wine list is impressive. We had an appetizer and a chicken alfredo pizza. Things were good, but could've been executed better. Our pizza looked fantastic, crispy crust with a medium done top. When I came up from my first bite, a huge spinach leaf and hot cheese followed. I would later fall prey to a thick slice of raw mushroom posing as a chicken strip. Again, pulled the whole darn thing off and on to my chin. I am accident prone, but these toppings were huge! Looks like a brand new store, very comfortable, with huge benches for seating. The pizza crust here reminded me of my favorite place back home and for that reason I think that this is the place to go in New Glarus for pizza. They have that kind of crust that is crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside, and it's a little bit sweet. They have outdoor seating and would be a great place for larger groups, and of course there is New Glarus beer to be had. read more

First of all, most importantly, the food was very, very good. However, even though we were the only table dining in on a rainy Monday night, the service was painfully slow. Then, the server misheard my order and brought us the wrong pizza. (Maybe having a Mac Daddy pizza and a Mac-N-Cheese pizza right next to each other on the menu was not a good idea?) They brought us out the right pizza very quickly after that (which begs the question why it took so long to get the order out the first time) and the server and owner were both super nice. Sugar River Pizza is such a wonderful place in so many ways. Delicious food, wonderful service, amazing location on a bike path. We live in Verona and prefer driving here vs downtown Madison. Gorgeous drive, creative menu. Also, they are wonderful with kids and brought lots of coloring pages, papers, etc. Did I mention the outdoor patio, covered porch, and great music? My 7 year old daughter says "it's set up very nicely, food is good, good kid stuff, they have a nice outdoor deck, it's a beautiful place, and the service is good." Check this place out! read more

Stopped here for our first night in New Glarus. We had a lovely bacon cheeseburger pizza that came with a plate of pickle slices which added a lot to each bite! Our server was extremely friendly and helped us pick out a beer we'd like from their long list of drinks. Definitely recommend! read more

Worse than last review. I've been there twice recently, hoping it had improved. No. Ordered a full dinner salad and barely had anything at all in it. Maybe an ounce of greens, a few tomatoes, and not even a third of a chicken breast. And the prices continue to go up. Not sure what is going on there but at this point a frozen pizza and a bag of salad from Roy's Supermarket is a better choice. Service is poor. Lots of mistakes. My friend asked three times for a soda and never got it but I kept getting iced tea and water. Six glasses on the table in front of me at point and she got nothing. We normally have a wonderful time here but this time not so much:( The food is good but had a very mouthy waitress and came to find out it was an owners kids. She was very unpleasant and rude!!! Never have I had someone treat me like an idiot because my beer was warm and blame me cause I was sitting by the fire. It was warm when she handed it to me not cause the fire!!! Excellent food and a large selection of beer (national and international)... they even offer a beer guarantee in case you pick one you don't like. I would rate this place higher BUT we had extremely poor service for a Thursday night (if Kelli is your waitress, ask to be reseated in another section). Although the menu prefers no special requests or substitutions, I've had servers make exceptions that they may overhear our family discuss. The service is normally quick and friendly. Weekends and football Sundays tend to be a busy time; expect some slight delays. The food is always cooked and presented well. The drink section, especially the beer list is impressive. With over 80+ beers to choose from, you'll likely find something to quench your thirst. With such a wide drink selection, it is helpful to have the beer scores listed right on the menu, and if you ask the owner he can point you in the right direction. The indoor seating is generous with pent of space for bigger groups at a single booth. Living 5 miles from New Glarus we normally have not had any issues getting pizza delivered to our home. And when they did deliver we made sure the tip covered the guys trip. The past few deliveries we have not received our entire order; and even had an order show up over an hour late, cold. When we called to speak to a manager they hung up on us. Tonight we ordered a delivery, 10 minutes later we receive a phone call that they cannot deliver to our home anymore and will only go as far as the intersection that is one mile from our house. You've got to be kidding me!! You're not worth it then. We will get better food at a better price in Monroe. If you don't want to do business with the locals then don't expect them to support you. read more

This place is FANTASTIC! Not only is the location perfect but the outdoor fire tables are the best way to eat here! The pizza is great (we're pizza snobs), the staff was really good. I noticed Kelly got a bad wrap, we had her twice and we loved her. The owner, Daryl, is a genuine, nice guy. They had probably close to, if not over, 100 beers on their menu. Poor customer service and food. Have tried several times will not return. You lost my business. First I called for a delivery and ordered a chicken parmesan sandwich which came with no marinara sauce on it like the menu says just some chicken strips and cheese on toast. Then we got an Asian Chicken salad which tasted moldy. So nasty. So I called and asked to speak to the manager which there was no manager in on a Friday night which seems funny because Friday and Saturday nights are restaurant's money making nights. Anyway a girl answers the phone and tells me she is the closest thing to a manager on that night. So I told her that my salad tasted moldy. All she has to say is sorry I will take your name and number and have a manager call you tomorrow morning. Yeah right considering no one called back. I just wanted the manager to know what had happened. Didn't even want a refund, but if they had good customer service they would have offered to at least replace my moldy tasting salad. I was trying to order and ask questions about the food and she was obviously impatient and kept walking away as I was ordering. The pizza isnt anything to rave about. I hear many employees say that they are treated horribly by the drunken owner who is also a piece of work. I had stopped in to grab an application for my boyfriend who had been stuck at work all day and he had worked at McDonald's at the time. Yeah, it's McDonald's, but he worked crazy hours even while going to school and had perfect attendance. He is an incredibly hard worker and worked there throughout high school and changed after graduation. Anyway, I told the owner this, and he denied me an application because he doesn't hire "low lifes" who probably don't "have the skill set greater than a monkey." Exact quote. He said that not just anyone can pick up phones and make pizzas... well, it's not rocket science, since my boyfriend makes pizzas elsewhere for a greater wage and still maintains perfect attendance and is an exemplary employee. I never was into their boring, bland food but after this, I just threw away all my coupons and deterred many people away from here. The only thing I like is the outside area, as the inside is ugly and boring. read more

food is good if you can get it. Service is slow as can be. We live in town, Have been there many times. If you order a beer hopefully they have more then 1 of that kind. They advertise all these different beers. They carry maybe 1-2 of each. Usually we have to go inside to get our own. As an order out, good luck!! On mothers day we called made an order to have it delivered while all our guest were here. 9 of us. Called 2 hours a head of time. They called back 5 minutes before it was suppose to be delivered to tell us they didnt have what we ordered. So we told them to just get us enough other foods to feed 9 people. They tell us no problem. Gonna do some lasagna and some other pasta and cheese breads garlic bread etc. So they show up about 45 minutes later and never even charged us a penny. I thought well that was really nice of them. We take the food in. There was 2 single serving lasagna dinners and 2 half orders of bread to feed 9 people. So that night was completely destroyed. Everyone ended up going to subway to eat. Called a week later to order a spaghetti dinner. They called back later to tell us they were out of the sauce. Well forget it not ordering. Now tonight call and sat on hold for 11 minutes to order a pizza. I hung up and waited 15 minutes to call back. They answer and ask me to hold again, I asked how long is the wait and they tell me really long. Come on its a wednesday at 7 pm. Get some help or something. My lord. Its really getting to be a joke and I am hearing it from many other people in this town. Owners are great people but you have to be able to hire and run the business. read more

Had my daughters rehearsal wedding dinner there. Rented the upstairs for $200.00. Was told only New Glarus beer would be served for $4.00 per bottle. When we arrived they had the upstairs open to everyone, pizzas were an hour late, beer was warm dumped on ice, really noisy, terrible service. They did not honor the $4.00 per beer. Instead anywhere from $5.50 to $6.00, Bar bill came to over $800.00 and Pizza bill came to over $600.00. Sorry. When confronted management we were put off for days. Finally after several phone calls they agreed to refund $400.00. Still have not received the check. What a crappy place. And after we paid for all the food and beverages, still charged $200.00 for the upstairs that we had to share with general public anyway. I would not recommend this place and they will never have a dime of my business again. TWO THUMBS DOWN. Don't go there. Pizza is nothing special either. Just soggy greasy crap. read more
