I'm sorry Sugar Rush, but I'm finally going to have to take you off of your pedestal. The honeymoon phase is over. It doesn't mean we are over, but as of right now, our future is becoming unclear. At first, when I discovered that Sugar Rush was now open on Sundays, I was ecstatic. Almost every weekend I had the craving, but not always the free time on a Saturday. How could this go wrong, right? It started with dessert. I love dessert, but I should have been skeptical when desserts were being brought in from another bakery. That was the first time I ate something at Sugar Rush and went... "meh". One day I went, and they were out of salad (it wax 1pm, how do you run out of salad?!). Then the service seemed to change. Parts of our order would be forgotten, like toast or a drink. No more Obi (as far as I can see), and a larger staff. Which of course leads to a less personal atmosphere, when there are always new workers there. I used to be greeted by name when I walked in, but now no one new takes the time to ask what it is. Then today, I walked in and was told there would be a 45 minute wait, despite one free table for that just needed to be cleaned, and no other patrons waiting. And the couch wasn't offered as a waiting place like it used to be. I know it wasn't their fault they were busy, but it made me a little sad that my place had changed so much. It seems that little by little, Sugar Rush and I are drifting apart. Good food is normally worth the wait, but today I actually turned my back on my weekend love. Despite my gripes, I'm happy Sugar Rush is doing well. And overall, the food is still good. But not 5 star good. Sorry my love, but without honestly, we have nothing. read more

I came here for lunch with my best and this place was packed...it seems like they need to hire more ppl...we wrent greeted for awhile but the service is friendly...our server kept forgetting things like our food was delivered before our drinks but she was clearly Takin on more tables than she cud handle yet remained super friendly Chicken spinach melt: wow I loved this ... usually I go for the sweet but this was amazing! Coffee and tea selections were great! I had the La Perla - was delicious! We both liked our breakfast plates. Standard but good. The omelet with your choice of 3 ingredients, and the breakfast plate. Hashbrowns were nice and crispy on the outside, and mushy on the inside, which I liked...but some people might not. Bacon was okay. It kind of tasted like turkey bacon or that they baked it instead of fried it. Would've liked it crispier, but I guess we should have asked for that. Casual & cute cafe decor that really surprised us, because of how industrial the exterior looked. Don't be deterred by the rugged, dirty parking lot and neighboring businesses. It's super clean, warm, and cozy inside. Service was prompt on a Friday morning and server was incredibly nice. New favorite breakfast place. This is a hidden gem in Pomona. The food is delicious and fresh. The portions are huge! I'm always satisfied. The waitresses are a hit or miss: either really attentive and awesome or forgets your there. I seriously LOVE this place though. Love that they let me order off the menu. I ordered just sautéed veggies and hash browns, because I'm vegan and complicated. It was almost perfect, except I had egg crumbs in my veggies. A regular go to place for Pomona Edisonians to go to lunch. I found this place through yelp. It is a definite hole in the wall. Love the chicken spinach melt and chips. Pretty, tasty coffee drinks! The sandwiches are good--I only tried the tuna melt. Not too fond of the fresh potato chips (but no one I know would agree with that sentiment). The fresh fries are the best!!! The basket is huge for a very reasonable price. Like $5 or less. They are my favorite thing about here, aside from the exceptionally friendly owner family. Meh! Sugar Rush Cafe is a tid bit overrated. It took me two wrong right turns to find this place, but I wasn't discouraged when I walked in. It's cozy looking inside! Anyways, I probably just came on an off day because service super lagged. I wasn't walked to my table, I was just pointed by a finger to a small corner in the back with our menus already laid out. I think the owners daughter (dressed in gray sweatpants mind you) helped serve. She was sweet, but I kept getting confused if she was a customer or my waitress hahaha Besides that, I ordered the "Chicken Spinach" and "The Sugar Rush French Toast." I specifically told my waitress to bring out the coffee first, but unfortunately that didn't happen. The food came out pretty fast, but I don't know where my Hazelnut latte and espresso was. Around 10 minutes later, I got my latte. To my attention and good hearing power lol, I overheard that none of the workers knew who ordered the Hazelnut Latte, so it sat on the counter for a bit. Eventually they remembered it was me so I ended up gettin it luke warm and I knew it was going to get cold in 5 minutes. The espresso came another 10 minutes later. Regardless! Food was OK. I expected more out of the infamous Cinnamon French Toast. I prefer fluffly toast to flat toast, it's something I could've whipped up at home. The Chicken Spinach however was good, especially with the Yukon fries. Overall, I just wish the coffee came before my food, not when I was more than half way done with my meal haha. So we finally decided to try this place out to see what all the yelpers were so excited about. We were there pretty much right when it opened on Friday. There was no one else there: no one else for the entire duration of our meal...which was odd for such a "happening" place, but whatever. Anyway, we ordered a stack of pancakes (that's all the kids wanted), an omelet (bacon, mushroom, tomatoes, and provolone) with hash browns, and the french toast. Everything was okay. I liked the decor of the cafe, and I definitely think it would be a great place to hang out and talk over a cup of coffee, but all in all, the food was okay. I don't think i would crave anything in particular. Perhaps next time I should come back to try the chicken and spinach sandwich that everyone else seems to be yelping about(?). read more

I would've never found this place if a friend hadn't told me about it. It's in the middle of nowhere and surrounded by industrial-looking trailers and storage units. I love that it's not super publicized because even with its obscure location, it sure gets a lot of business! Every time I'm in town, I want to go here. I LOVE their cinnamon raisin french toast. It's not super thick and doughy like "gourmet' french toast. I think they actually take cinnamon raisin bread slices and soak it in egg wash, but you get a lot of food - 4 slices of bread! I leave this place completely stuffed to the brim. They also have other delicious breakfast items like breakfast burritos and other good eats. They are also pretty well-known for their coffee drinks! After not going for a few years because I was no longer working in the area I made it back to Sugar Rush since I'm working at Cal Poly again and it's been fantastic. I have visited 2-3 times in the past 6 months during the lunch hour and they get us in and out quickly and food has been fresh and delicious. I finally signed up for an account just because this place was so terrible. The cinnamon raisin french toast was good, definitely worth ordering again, but the chicken-spinach melt was bland and sloppy. Fries were good. Food aside, this is absolutely hands down the worst service I have ever had in a restaurant, especially of this size. We hadn't been before, so we waited patiently at the counter, unsure of their seating and ordering situation. We perused the menu while the guy made coffees and served people. After almost five minutes of standing there (wherein he did in fact have idle time), he finally asked if we were ready to order. We said that we'd like to eat in, so he told us to take whatever seats were open. It took TWENTY MINUTES for anyone to take our order. We timed it because we couldn't believe how long we'd been there. The food was slow, but it was quite crowded by the time we finally ordered, so it was mostly forgivable. We had no silverware and despite employees walking past us three or four times and us actively attempting to get their attention, my partner finally had to walk up and ask for silverware, which took them at least another three to five minutes to bring. This place is not worth that kind of time investment or inattentive service. We might stop in to pick up french toast again, but we definitely won't be eating in. read more

Buuuuuut, my chicken on the spinach melt was way overcooked and super soggy. First and for most my impression of this place based on Yelps review was way off. Somehow I envisioned this place to be a 2 story sports bar, with a modern decor.... Instead it's a hole in the wall inside a commercial building complex. You really have to look for it since this whole complex is uniform in color and very little signage to tell them apart. Now for the service, the only lady here as our server was on point. Very impressive! As for food presentation, pictures don't lie. It's half the reason why I came by. Neighborhood gem ! Don't let the location fool you. It is in an older small industrial/storage building. Portions are large and prices are right in line with the quantity and quality. Can't go wrong with the grilled cheese or pancakes. Fresh fruit, hash browns, ....the sides are plentiful and tasty. Fast, friendly service. This location is close to my office so we eat here quite often. Coffee cups are large ! My friend got a cheeseburger and it was good size and tasty as well. This place is pretty awesome. It's small, but I went there on a weekday so it didn't feel cramped. They had some delicious coffee and I had some candied banana pancakes which they are known for apparently, and they were absolutely heavenly. Probably a little too sweet for my breakfast taste, but the home made syrup was very good. My wife had some hot chocolate which was also a specialty, and I'm not going to lie... it was awesome. I have to admit, this place is rather small and so out of the way, you wouldn't even know it was there unless you were either a local, or found out about it through Yelp or a friend. But that aside, I was extremely impressed with the unique selection and quality of food offered here. I am a huge coffee buff and the coffees they have here are amongst the most unique I have ever heard of; mostly because a lot of them have an essence of fruit in them. But I have to say, however it is that they make them, it works. They also have a varied selection of herbal teas, if that's what you'd prefer. No matter the time of day you go there, I highly recommend trying the Cinnamon Raisin French Toast. It's served on a lake of honeyed syrup, fresh strawberries and caramelized bananas on top. This is honestly some of the best french toast I have ever had; which is saying something. And if sandwiches, burgers, and other "real" food is your way to go, they also have a good selection of that, as well. Don't hold the strip mall, industrial park against it - the Sugar Rush cafe is diamond in this area. The staff was friendly and attentive. I thought the menu was a bit limited (especially for breakfast) but it does the trick, its a nice alternative for breakfast options in the area as opposed to the Coco's and Denny's chain places around. Prices are fair to high for the food but again, as an independent restaurant I was ok with it. The french toast with caramelized bananas is every bit as delicious as it sounds! The Intelligentsia coffee is also an awesome complement to their yummy food. Service was excellent when I was there--I hung out with a friend and we ended up sitting and talking for a couple of hours, but the staff never gave us an attitude or treated us like they wanted us to leave and free up the table. It took a while to get the check (but it was fine for us), but otherwise the staff was attentive and friendly. I don't get out to this area much anymore (although I went to school at Cal Poly, I never found out about Sugar Rush until after I was done), but if I were in the mood for a little drive, or if I was already on my way out there, I'd love to go back and try some other breakfast plates that looked great! read more

I'm so glad I FINALLY go to try this place! Seriously, I only had it bookmarked to try for something like two and a half years! I was kinda feeling the cobb salad, but after reading the Yelp reviews raving about the fries, I knew I had to try them. So I went with the bacon, avocado cheeseburger which was huge and really good with big thick slices of bacon. The bottom bun did start to get kind of soggy though. The fries were perfection - crispy and salty. I really need to try those homemade chips next time though. I noticed the table next to us ordered a side of chips to share, even though they both had fries too! Will definitely be back. I need to try those chips and that spinach chicken melt that everyone is talking about! The only sour note was that we think someone keyed my friend's car while we were having lunch! It is so bizarre because she parked right in front of the restaurant and it doesn't seem like there would be hooligans around at noon on Thursday. Weird. read more

I'm a fan of this place. They serve Intelligentsia coffee and they brew it in a Chemex just like I would at home. So the coffee alone gets 5 stars. The food gets a 3. A-OK omelettes and French toast. I would say that it's home-style, like you would make at home. It's not gourmet and it doesn't try to be. My favorite place to eat is at home so this place delivers in that sense. Sometimes you don't feel like cooking so its nice to find a place that is always satisfying, doesn't pretend to be something it's not, and isn't too expensive. The service is a 3. The servers aren't always smiles, but they are efficient. The owner is really nice and he is usually making coffee or cleaning. There isn't usually a long wait so it's a great place for a quick brunch or breakfast. I'm glad that there's a tasty breakfast place in my neighborhood. read more

I wanted to give them two stars, but they had really good service, so I bumped it up to a 3. :/ honestly, waste of money... waste of appetite. I had the cinnamon raisin french toast. It was soggy.. too thin for french toast.. simply not appetizing. It was a little over $10 with tax and tip included... My friends had a tuna melt and a BLT.. comes with fries.. it was okay.. but I dont think this restaurant is worth the try.. if you're in the neighborhood, just drive a little and go to Bruxie instead or something.
