Visited shop yesterday as I like their paneer sweets. We used to eat some deep fried snacks every time we visit. Yesterday I took paneer paratha... it was awful...big chunks of paneer inside, it was not scrambled. It was sweetish. And if you just take a look at the place where they make food, it was very very dirty...only in Devon Avenue, you will get fresh sweets... but after this, I am not going back. read more

This review is based solely on one thing: Samosas! And they are delish here! They were super fresh, meaning they were too hot for my the tender mouth of my friend. I just ate around the edges and gobbled it. Next time I am going to try more and get some coriander chutney to go with the samosas, this time they gave us that sweet tamarind like sauce which was just ok. It was a perfect stop on a freakin cold afternoon! read more

Chats and sweet lovers, stop by right here!. Starting with the best. The jalebis were yumm!!... They have quite a lot of variety. The samosa chole chat was v good but the portion size was tiny ;( . Pani Puri was good too ( the pani was tangy and cold as it shd be) I visit the place if I dont wanna have something heavy but just snack up. Its a must for chat lovers though! Makes you feel at home! read more

I went here for the first time today and thought it was good. I had the samosas as well as the dosa masala. Both in my opinion were pretty good. However, beware with the Galub Jamun- it's not that great. As for service, I did not have a problem. The wait was even fairly short. Good food, good service. I will be back here! read more

If you have a craving for spicy-sweet, crunchy, munchy Indian deliciousness, please look no further. We were here on a weekend afternoon, because of a chat craving that hit as we were passing by Devon. We had the samosa chat, vada pav, mango lassi and the thandai. All of those dishes were AWESOME!!! The staff were courteous and professional. It was very nice for a fast food place. I cannot wait to go back! Maybe this time we will try the one in Hoffman Estates. read more

Love this place! I had no clue what to order but the employee behind the counter patiently explained most of the basic sweets to me. I ended up with a box full of random sweets and I was impressed by most of them! The rose, mango and fig flavors were unique but delicious. read more

Sukhadia Sweets and Snacks - box of sweets!! - Desserts Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Very colorful and inviting interior beckons all to step inside. While their are quite a few negative comments listed, my experience at Sukhadia's was the opposite. The pastry and sweets were very good as was the hot coffee. I enjoyed my visit and will return again. read more

I finally tried this place last Sunday, when it was both very busy and slightly confusing. My boyfriend and I shared a masala dosa and chole served with little round breads that I can't remember what they're called but probably should. Puri? My only complaint is the wait. It was so long. I felt like Bugs Bunny, staring at all the other customers imagining them turning into chicken legs (except not chicken, as this is a vegetarian restaurant). Numbers are yelled out and you have to be a very good listener, or have someone to send up to wait by the counter. The casual sorta-diner image and signs indicating "snacks" said to us "this will be fast food" but that was not so much the case. However - do not let the wait deter you! I instantly understood why it was so busy and why people had such big orders - my boyfriend and I were full with our two dishes, but I wanted more food anyway. My biggest regret is not getting a mango lassi, but I was trying to control myself. I will not make that mistake again! read more

We love the neighborhood and have visited the Kabob House across the street from this place in the past (see review). But we wanted a snack after an afternoon of shopping at Patel Brothers, so we took a chance and went to Sukhadia's. After all, the sign does say "snacks". We entered at about 5:00pm on a Saturday afternoon, and the place was really busy. I was comforted by the fact that the clientele was almost exclusively South Asian. The latino line cooks and fry cook knew the recipes and how to make them so its all good. Now, if you are going to be stepping in, understand a couple of things. First, you are going to have a good long wait for your food. It is 'fast food' but served slow. If that's a deal-breaker, there are other good choices on Devon. Second, if you don't know Indian food intimately, you are going to be venturing into the unknown with the menu. I ordered some vegetable pakhoras, samosa chole, pani poori, and a vada pav. The samosa and the vada pav in particular were great. Savory, fresh out of the fryer, with great Indian flavors. A fellow diner actually come over to us to tell us how to eat the pani poori. Apparently we were conspicuous in our ignorance of the dish. It was a small 'puff' that you are to crack open, fill with chickpea masala, dunk in a cold green broth and pop into your mouth. We both appreciated the young man taking the time to educate us. Anyway, to sum it up...the wait is long and service somewhat chaotic (just like India, imagine that!), but the food is a good Chicago replica of Indian street food. I would definitely go back for the samosas and vada pav. Get in there and enjoy the experience! read more

Visiting Chicago and checked this place out. We ordered the samosas, Masala Dosa, and chaat. Everything was really tasty and inexpensive. read more

Yum jalebi! Reasonably priced. Limited menu but everything tastes great. Try thandaai, it's amazing! 4/5 because the restaurant smells a little weird initially. read more

Sweets were gross with the exception of the baklava. The fully dressed samosa was good. The smoothie was okay. The cashier helped me choose what to get because nothing was in English. Definitely not catered to non-Indians. read more

They took the order for our lunch for our staff on Diwali day on the app online and when you show the guy acts like he is clueless and then he shows a print out that he had but didn't have the courtesy to call us and say they won't be able to service the order - we place the order hours ago - you left us hanging on Diwali day - shame on you! We were loyal sukhadia customer won't be ordering again. Opp sukhadia there is a new store that saved the day and we were at least able to get Sweets there for our staff read more

This place has the best prontay I had in the city, could literally eat this anytime of the day!

ordered some dal vada and south indian chevda. what to say? the dal vada is lightly fried making it very oily, so much so that with a little sqeeze oil will dripp down your finger. Usually these type of dishes like vade takes a little patience and time to well fry, so if the store is charging a certain heafty amount at least they can take the time to fry them properly where customers can get value for their money unfortunately which doesn't grow on trees. the same goes for the chevda. its full of oil and the taste is also oily. your tongue will be covered with so much saturated oil that you might not like any other fried food for a week. if you keep it in air tight container for a week then the chevda starts to smell of oil so badly that even the garbage bag denies to accept the trash. how difficult is it for these stores to sell quality products when they are charging no discounted price?? think twice before ording read more

I have been coming here for years. The food is consistently delicious. This place is a great and very affordable place to get authentic indian snacks such as samosa chat, masala dosa, and pani puri. Don't expect gourmet. Enjoy it for what it is; extremely affordable, satisfying, authentic, good portion sizes. My friend and I each had a chai and shared a masala dosa, pani puri and samosa chat. The total was $16 and we couldn't finish all the food. I highly suggest checking this place out. I haven't dabbled too much in the desserts because I don't have a sweet tooth, but if you want to try a dessert you've never heard of, this might just be the place for you. Only reason I don't give 5 stars is because they could keep it a bit cleaner in the dining area. read more

Quite the mixed bag there. While they have good indian chaats, its entirely far too chaotic. We werent sure where to order for a bit there and it seemed pretty crazy. Once the food was ordered, there wasnt a good way of handing ALL of our order to us. some one else walked off with half my order because they ordered similar things right after us. perhaps take out is really the way to go. read more

Sukhadia has amazing fresh sweets and snacks. The rotla shak was also delicious for lunch as it's gluten free.

Good place for indian sweets and savories on Devon Street. We tried the Gulab Jamun, Jalebi, Malai jamun, Cham Cham and the spicy banana chips and all of these items were good. read more

We've been here twice and the word I'd use to describe what we've sampled is soggy. One trip was purely samosa oriented. And the samosas we sampled were limp, soggy, and oversized. Meh. We decided to give it another shot, and to eat in Sukhadia's since perhaps it was transportation that had led to limp samosas. This time we had the bhel puri and it was SOPPING wet, just swimming in tamarind chutney and coriander chutney. Unpleasant. The place is decently clean (except for the bathrooms) and the broken water fountain (which is how you get water) adds to a somewhat depressing atmosphere. read more

People here are very in professional and the customer service is terrible, when you walk in to give order the person taking order is more interested in watching TV then responding to you. I think they hire old people who come from india with zero hospitality experience, never going back to this place read more

Huge selection of sweets and snacks. Mango Lassi, samosas, and Kulfi on a stick for a quick snack.

I would give them zero stars but since that is not an option, I have settled for one star. I have been to the store few times before and definitely like the sweet and savory snacks served in the store. My issues are with their customer service. Being the only decent fast food joint in the area, they must feel invincible in some way. While their service has always been very slow even when the place is not crowded, recently their behavior reached a new low. I walked into the store with my husband one Saturday morning. The place seemed crowded but I wanted to get some sweets so I didn't think it will take very long. I waited for someone to take my order, some of the workers made eye contact but just ignored us. All this while they kept taking orders from other customers. After 7-10 minutes I called someone to take my order and we were told that we have to wait or we could leave. We left the store and are never going back again. If the store wants to maintain goodwill, they should have better customer service and need to be polite to everyone. I am definitely telling of my experience to all my friends and acquaintances who ask me (as an Indian) what restaurants or places to go on Devon street. read more

I love the masala dosa here!! It's a good portion size. I have gone here several times.

I've honestly had pani puri here often. I've also brought friends here. However, most recent visits have made me wonder about their hygiene. I mean, if what the customers can see is so disgusting, one can only imagine how gross the hidden areas (i.e. the kitchen) must be. The food can be good, but I gag just thinking about how gross everything is. CLEAN YOUR RESTAURANT. read more

Incredibly bad customer service, never buying from any Sukhadia store ever again. I wanted to put an order of 15 samosas for takeout. The old man at the checkout counter told me very rudely in Indian language 'there are no more samosas and I should get this straight, what's wrong with you?' who would treat a customer like that? BTW running out of samosas for a store like Sukhadia is as if McDonald's is out of fries, implausible!! I will not buy from this store in the future, very rude and impolite way of treating paying customers. This is not acceptable. The food is mediocre quality, laden with sugar and carbs, nothing trendy or exciting to talk about. read more

Extremely bad customer care. I was standing in front of counter to give order but old man who was taking order was least bothered about customer in front of him.He kept talking on phone and I kept standing there for 5-7 mins. I never went back to that restaurant. read more

The worst service ever. Never go back again. We went to pay for our chai, we waited 30 min or more. They told us to come back. We went back to pick up our chai they kept yelling saying we are closed. We arrived back at 9:30. Clearly the place closes later than that ( if you check online). The lady in the back yelled at us twice, very horrible people!!!! Did not feel welcomed read more

Great samosas and sweets! The service was amazing and the food was equally as great, I'll look forward to stopping by in the future!

Don't go her unless you're trying to eat microwaved, stale food. I ordered the aloo tikki chat and mango lassi. The aloo tikki was sitting there for who knows how long, the lady microwaved if and just threw yogurt and chutneys on it. Their counter where they make the food is purely disgusting. The chaat tasted stale and not good at all. They have various other items such as idli, wada that have been sitting there and I noticed when they get an order, the food is microwaved and served. Terrible food and terrible service. read more

I had a very bad experience here! Besides the time wait of 25 mins for a simple order of kichdi, there were worms floating in the kadi they gave along the side. It was gross!! When I took it to the manager at the counter: 1. He did not apologize 2. He offered to give me chole bathura, which did not come even after 15 mins. I simply demanded my money back which he reluctantly gave. There was no apology what-so-ever!! Disgusting! I will never go back to this place. They season curries with dead worms and have no sense of good customer service. read more

I'm not sure what was going on behind the counter when we walked in, but speedy service doesn't seem to be a priority here. We were about to place our order with one lady when she disappeared, and the gentleman who shifted behind the register seemed oblivious to our presence (and the growing line of customers behind us) as he chatted at length with a few people lingering near the counter. When we sat down to eat, we noticed all the tables could have used a good de-crumbing and wipe-down. As for the food, our samosas were decent. First time trying batata vada, so can make no comparison. They were fine. Our mango lassi was just OK--have definitely had better. Am looking forward to trying a different snack shop next time. read more

A lovely place to introduce naive white people to the variegated palate of India's culinary regions. My favorite place to take people who think nasty Saag Paneer and flavorless butter Naan are typical Indian food. A great place to try South Indian and Gujarat flavors. Not the best for either, but the only place I know in Chicago of its kind. Kamdar plaza has some good chaat as well, but I can't go back ever since their Patra gave me a severe case of gastric distress... TO sum it up, the only place in town to get good chaat unless you want to sh*t yourself in public. read more

Worst chaat that I have ever had. Everything has to have choley! Presentation of the dishes horrible. Had heard bad things about the place but still wanted to give a chance. There's a reason why ppl don't think greatly. Only thing good was the malai sandwich sweet which is why the 1 star! Ordered sev puri - terrible, Dahi puri - frozen and kachori chaat. Pani puri also had choley! read more

Worst customer service. We ordered samosa chat, they served very cold samosa, when asked to serve hot samosa, they left me puzzled with bad response. read more

This restaurant has always had excellent catering and delicious food as we have used them to cater food for many events. Most recently we had ordered food for my daughters birthday party where we had chaat stations to include samosa chaat and bhel. The food was excellent and freshly prepared and everyone enjoyed it. The quantity of food is always more than sufficient and prices are very reasonable. The owner explained how to set up the chaat stations appropriately and gave instructions on how to prepare and serve the dishes. The food for catering was very well packaged with spill proof containers and was easy to transport and serve during our party. Overall it was an excellent experience and we would definitely recommend Sukhadia's to other and use there catering for other future events. read more

I started going by here in high school for the jalebi. The texture and taste are incredible. If you haven't had the opportunity, try some. The service here usually leaves a little to be desired, but if you're nice enough and ask the right question they'll usually offer little samples of various treats and candies so you can figure out what you're in the mood for. Bad place to stop if you're on a diet. read more

DON'T GO HERE!!! NEITHER the FOOD NOR the SERVICE is nice here. We went here with really high expectations and were highly disappointed with the service and the food. The food was pathetic. The abysmal service made our experience even worse. We ordered pani puri and the pani was so cold that we couldn't even enjoy the taste of pani puri. Chhola bhatura was a huge disappointment. Food was so cold and we asked the hostess for lemon to go with chhola bhatura which we never got. Terrible experience. read more

This is the worst place I have ever been in the US. Cutomer service is the worst you would ever get ; you are standing in a line for 10 min and the person in the counter doing other things doesnot even bother to even speak a single word to you. The only reason I go there is for pani puri but I have found other good places and am happy now that I donot have to go there anymore .I don't expect to hear English spoken around me and neither am I a adventerous person but as a customer I expect to be treated professionally which these guys donot know how to. I would have given minus if available. read more

Nishan hit the nail on the head with his review, so I'll add a few things that can be helpful: Don't expect someone to explain what things are and how they taste, I honestly stood behind someone who took 10 minutes to order something. It's a snack shop. Google. Probably best not to use their restroom. Questionable, at best... usually dirty. They are all mostly deep fried snacks... and mostly good. The dosa is much too greasy (but good), the jalebi is usually fresh. Always have enjoyed their kajju katri. Sometimes buy their masala boondi. Yum! Are you getting a bottled drink from the fridge? They have a self serve bottle opener at the cash register. Also... please use a straw or wipe the heck out of the rim of that bottle. I have seen some dirty Thums Up/Limca/Pakola bottles over the years. read more
