It was my wife's birthday. We have not been to this restaurant since 1997-98 at that time it was so quiet it was dark it was the food was just amazing had Valley parking it was just beautiful so I thought I would surprise my wife after all these years, go and go back to Sullivan's so I called made a reservation asked about the valet parking for this past Saturday night they said absolutely we get there there is no valet parking our reservation is for 7:00 p.m. we get seated at 7:30 we sit there for 30 minutes we get four dinner rolls two out of the refrigerator the other two were very warm then our waiter finally shows up takes our order about an hour or so later our food comes out we are unable to talk to each other without yelling the entire time since it was so loud in there. So we get our food I cut into my steak it is lukewarm on the outside and it's cold on the inside my mashed potatoes for cold on the outside and even colder on the inside my stuffed shrimp was lukewarm at best so I sent that back and while that was being worked on my wife got into her steak and put her finger down into it and it was about 40°. Her mashed potatoes were also very cold so when the waiter came back with my food we had to send her food back. So we finally get her food back the waiter comes back and says everything will be taken care of and then about 5 minutes later a manager came by and said oh we're just taking off the drinks we were fine with that I mean it's a $300 bill it really wasn't about the money it was about Sullivan's completely ruining a surprise birthday that I had planned for my wife that had just beating breast cancer and this was something very very important to me to have this be something memorable in a good way. Great service, particularly from our server, Josh C, who helped guide us newbies through the extensive cocktail, wine, and dinner menu, making great suggestions for us, and keeping pace with refilling drinks and clearing plates. I honestly only gave 3 stars because I only had one appetizer and a beer, so I'm only able to asses that. I had a cheesesteak egg roll with sweet and sour chili sauce and mustard. The egg roll was very good. The sweet and sour sauce was too sweet for my liking... but that's just me. It was very busy at the bar but I was able to sit and enjoy the live music and ambiance. When I say we had too notched service....it wasn't that it was real busy but it was busy for 1 bartender while sitting in the bar. Not only was Jonathan attentive to each customer he also had to make drinks for the other servers. It seemed no one ever came to help him only brought dirty glasses and put them on the bar. Without huffing and puffing (which would have been me) he continued to work the bar tables, the bar and got the servers their drinks. To say I was in awe watching this young man work is an understatement. He took our order and as we were waiting it seems as if it was taking long. I had not gone to this restaurant in years. My 1st experience was great. BUT the service, both in the bar and restaurant was lacking. The waitress mixed up the order and acted like it was our fault. She was hardly present - had to get up to find someone to help us twice. She delivered the bill before we were even finished with dinner. The food was mediocre and the cost high. I was so disappointed and embarrassed as this was a celebration for my foster grandchild's senior send off to college. The restroom floors were dirty and the walls scratched/marked. Sullivan's has been established on the north side of Indy for sometime. My wife and I stopped in for a holiday meal and they didn't disappoint. There is plenty of parking. As the restaurant is next to the mall, there are also mall spaces available if you're willing to walk. Valet service is also available. The interior of the restaurant is dark, with wine lockers and canister lights promoting intimate conversations. There is a dress code, but it prohibits flip-flops, tank tops, and hats (meaning large ridiculous hats). I saw patrons in jeans and sweaters, and suits and ties. The atmosphere is quite upscale, though. The establishment is handicap accessible with a large ramp out front, and a flat floor plan inside. Booths and tables are available. Patrons with mobility issues should have no trouble. If you mention you have a person with mobility issues when you make a reservation it will improve your experience. The food is pricey, but worth it. Dishes are a la cart, but they have specials that package a meal together if you prefer. I had the bone-in tomahawk sirloin cowboy cut paired with mashed potatoes and a wedge salad. The steak was perfection at medium rare. Overall our experience was excellent. Food, atmosphere, and service all a cut above the standard. Sullivan's is not an experience I can afford often, but, as a special treat, I certainly will return. read more

Truly a disappointing experience last evening at Sullivan's. We stopped in for a business dinner and the entire experience fell way below expectations. It began with the wine and an exceptionally unprofessional approach to selection, presentation and pouring of the wine; made worse on our second bottle when we were required to decant the bottle but this was done so out of sight, creating a concern we never got the bottle we actually paid for (no bottle or cork was ever returned to the table). Our steaks were mis-cooked and upon the remake of one, an extremely poor quality ribeye was presented. Ambiance made matters worse with unprofessional staff and zero effort to establish and maintain a proper dress code. Our group will never return and would caution others. read more

It almost looked like we didn't need reservations at all. We were seated right away and our server came right over. Business lunch with 7 people. Sat for 25 minutes with not even drink orders done. Finally asked a manager to help us. She took orders herself. The crab cakes were burnt on one side and soggy on top. Basically inedible (they did remove from bill) and the lobster/shrimp bisque is very watery with little flavor. Very disappointing. Filet was good. Delmonico steak was very thin and not very appealing visually but flavor was decent. VERY slow service. Sadly, the french fires were the best thing served for a $250 bill. read more

For a lot of years, pro basketball teams would stay up here to hang out when in town. Sullivan's is a chain of steakhouses, and delivers a consistent and top-notch product. Have been in Chicago, Charlotte, Detroit and Indy, and the food is always good, the setting is typically a quiet, blues-style club, and the business is always real. The steaks were soso, the sauces were bland, and the lobster risotto was way overcooked. Chef Ramsay never would allow that to be served in hell's kitchen. It's not Ruth's Chris but better than Weber Grill. Also, I really liked the option to book a table via OpenTable and it worked perfectly. The lunch menu had a few appetizers / main courses / sides to choose from - I got lobster bisque and salmon with mashed potatoes. All of that for $24 which is very reasonable. We did the Devour menu and added a few items too We started with salads and probably the best French onion soup we've ever had. I had the ribeye and my lady had the filet mignon. The ribeye was so much more flavorful than filet. We added their mushrooms which were fantastic. We weren't great fans of the banana pudding or the key lime pie, but the meal overall was great. We couldn't have been more pleased with our dinner at Sullivan's to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday. Our 4 and 6 year old boys came too and I never know if that is going to be a problem. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating with our group. We were so pleased and thrilled to be out! We have been here many times and it is always consistently good. My husband and I split the large filet. We added the Gorgonzola butter (which I highly recommend). We had multiple side for the table but my favorite were the au gratin potatoes. The kids menu was good, just be ready to pay a bit more. They even brought a piece of cheesecake for my mom for her birthday. There was miscommunication with our waiter as well. My friend ordered a wedge salad and tuna appetizer and asked that they be brought out at the same time as our meals. They brought his items out as appetizers. He sat patiently until ours arrived 30 some minutes later. The waiter never acknowledged how odd it probably looked for his food to be sitting there untouched for so long. The crab cakes looked divine but my friend said after we left that they were tasty but cold. My steak was cooked properly but was very salty. I was finally able to check this place out with a decent size group. The service was friendly but could have been a bit more attentive. Also the speed of service was a bit off. It took awhile for our appetizers to come out, and then our soups and salads came out. Our entrees them came out pretty sooner after so that felt rushed and off. I was able to sample the crab cake, beef Wellington bites, cheesesteak eggs rolls and shrimp cocktail. My favorite was the egg rolls and crab cake. The crab cake was a bit expensive for the price. The lobster and shrimp bisque was pretty good. The rib-eye could have been a bit better. It was super charred on spots so a bit of a burnt taste. Could just be the cooking style. The cheesecake and bread pudding were fantastic. We did the price fixe menu which is excellent for a group. They also seem to cater to a lot of larger parties which is nice. For the price I'd give it 3.5 stars due to having to constantly ask for water refills, the bit of steak being over cooked, and the timing of service. read more

We came here last night to celebrate a belated Valentines/early Anniversary (since I was hospitalized last month and couldn't celebrate as we had originally planned). Beth was our server and she was very kind and knowledgeable about the menu and made sure we had everything we needed! We each ordered a martini, my husband had their signature one and I had the hibiscus cosmo which was definitely one of the better cosmos I've had around Indy. We started with the calamari, which my husband said was one of the top 3 he has ever had (and mind you, we eat out a lot! We've hit up over 100 local places in the last year alone). We also shared the beef Wellington bites which were good, but probably could have been better (were a bit salty and just warm). Next we moved on to the salads which he had a caesar and me a market fresh salad. The salad was top tier for me and a great portion. The table side bread was also delicious and warm when it hit the table. The butter was the best part! For our mains we did the prix fixe but upgraded our steaks. I had the filet and my husband the NY strip. Both were great quality and served with mashed potatoes. The potatoes were a bit dry in our opinion but the sauce accompanying the steak made it less dry. Beth recommended the sweet potato casserole and it was the highlight of my meal next to the steak, absolutely delicious! We also ordered the cream spinach which we also thoroughly enjoyed. Beth also took note my husband enjoyed the fresh black pepper and was sure to bring it over for each course too! The dessert was great, we had a cheesecake and bread pudding to share. No complaints there and was a wonderfully touch to our meal! The service once we were at our table was fantastic between the older gentleman who replenished our water and bread to other servers removing plates as we finished. The ambiance was really nice - a bit dark in trying to read the menus. The bar had live music when we walked in as well and the couple performing were great.The bar was very crowded so we opted to wait in the lobby until our table was ready granted it was empty when we had arrived. My only real complaint was we had a reservation for 7:45 pm and were told at the host stand it would be about 10-15 minutes and we ended up waiting closer to 25-30 minutes for our table. The lobby was quite crowded after waiting for 15 minutes and they have this large wine chest that is quite obviously in the door way. Because it was so busy a woman with mobility issues and a cane struggled to get through comfortably (between the crowd and the large wine chest) which I was disappointed to see for such a nice restaurant. Just left from having lunch here. It was extremely disappointing. My husband chose this place because he wanted a good French dip. I was excited to try the shrimp and lobster bisque. The shrimp and lobster bisque had absolutely no shrimp and lobster in it and was very runny. It had clear gelatinous things in it, which was really very gross and I put them on a separate dish to show the waiter. It made me quite nauseous. After sending it back, I expected a manager to come over to address it, but no one did. In the middle of sending that back, my husband was informed their bread shipment for the French dip had not arrived, so would he like it on a brioche bun, to which he replied no and had to order something else. He was disappointed because this was the reason we chose to eat here. His burger and fries were fine, but the whole lunch was an expensive disappointment. It was extremely loud, we finally got seated we had rules eventually set on our table two dinner rolls for cold like right out of the refrigerator and the other two were very nice and warm and soft. We ordered our food after an hour and a half we got our food my steak was cold on the outside and was it colder in the middle my mashed potatoes for cold on top and of course colder as I put my finger into them . My stuffed shrimp was lukewarm . I had to send that back everything back and then my wife cut her steak in her steak was about 40° in the center her potatoes for even colder than my potato mashed potatoes . The server was extremely apologetic several times as he had to keep taking our food back because it was ice cold and he said everything would be comped the mgr came by a little bit later and said well we're just going to take the drinks off . We're fine spending the money no problem but this place has gone downhill significantly and I think it's just very sad and we will never ever return to that place again this was supposed to be a surprise this was supposed to be something that we haven't done in over 25 years and Sullivan's found a way to ruin it completely read more
