Four of us went out for our anniversary the day before. The ambiance was good...typical steakhouse vibes. Our waitress was also very good...she was attentive. My lower stars were for the food. First, it was Arizona Restaurant week (not Sonoran which is Sept) and Sullivans had a special going for $55 for a 3 course dinner. Choice of soup or salad, choice of 4 or 5 entrees and choice of 3 deserts. But on their website and some of the menus, they offer a 3 course pre fixed meal for $46. Guess what? Exact same menu as the offering for restaurant week, but $6. less. Kinda sneaky IMO. We had chargrilled oysters as an app...they were good...have had better. One lobster shrimp bisque...very rich but good. Two Caesars salads that were presented with whole leaves of romaine, croutons and parm. Also good but kinda different...tossed would have been better. My regular salad was good as well. Three steaks were ordered and one salmon. Sides were sautéed spinach or mashed potatoes. When the waiter brought our food, she asked the steak eaters to cut into them to make sure they were cooked properly. They were all ok at the time, but one of them was thinner on one end and that part was well done. But the plating was absolutely terrible! They were on a great big oval plate with this tiny little 6oz filet and a side cup of mashed potatoes. Nothing else on the plate ...no garnish, parsley, anything! All plate! My salmon was on top of the spinach, but the spinach had slid around the plate cuz it also was way too big. Again, nothing else on the plate. And it was leaning towards being overcooked. The deserts offered were cheesecake, key lime pie and bananas foster pudding. They were ordinary. We all agreed not going back for that kind of money. And no anniversary wishes either.. read more

They were over booked and under staffed.We waited past our reservation time and probably would have waited even longer if I had not tracked down the hostess who was missing from the reception desk for a good ten minutes.The food and presentation wasn't that good either. Not for the prices they charge. Finally, the prix fix menu, which was what we were expecting to order from, was not available on Christmas, even though it appeared on the printed menu and on the website.We were forced to choose either from the main menu or the "Holiday menu". BEWARE!!! I met a friend at Suulivan's for HH today. Not feeling like a foo-foo drink after exiting the heat I ordered a simple well vodka and soda with lime. Holy cr**...that will be $12, thank you very much. Signature cocktails are on sale of $7 but everything else is a price gauge. Perhaps that is why the majority of the place was empty. I had a doctor's appointment on the north side so we took a late lunch. We were going to go to a French restaurant near the doctor's office but they closed at 2:00pm. We were looking for another restaurant and found Sullivan's Steakhouse in a small plaza on River road. I didn't know that they were a chain restaurant in many states in the country. Didn't matter because some of the best steakhouse are chains. When we entered the restaurant we were greeted by the staff and promptly taken to a booth ( because of my back injury I prefer a booth). Since it was late for lunch there were not many guests. The waiter appeared quickly, gave us the menu's and took our drink order. When the drinks arrived (homemade lemonade and a ginger ale-it was lunch) he took our food order. I ordered steak frites and Kathy ordered shrimp and lobster bisque and a house salad. She was very pleased with the food. Since this was such a nice steakhouse I thought I would order it blu rare. Very difficult to cook a steak that way ( one of my criteria for a great steakhouse). The steak was cooked to perfection with a gorgonzola garlic butter sauce. The frites were made with roasted garlic and Parmesan cheese. This is the best steak frites I have had outside of France. Of course we can no longer eat as much as when we were young so we had enough left over to make two meals for lunch tomorrow. Because we had a doctor's appointment we had him bring the check after cleaning the table. Looking at the other people in the restaurant, they don't rush you to leave. I looked at the dinner menu and they had typical steakhouse menu (which is a good thing). It looked delicious. I feel that the lunch menu was a terrific bargain. This place is woefully understaffed and what there is is inexperienced or don't care. This goes from the reservation desk to the bar they park you at when your reservation is not ready or even close, to the wait staff and cooks and manager. They brought out a filet for my wife then asked "to cut it down the middle" to see if it was cooked Medium as requested. The filet was like a catchers mitt. The waiter even acknowledged it needed to be brought back. Ok, but they never brought one back after 25 minutes and my meal was eaten and shared with my wife in her butter plate. The manager then in her ultimate grace offered not to charge us for the steak we never got. We sat in the bar and ordered cheesesteak egg rolls, a chicken sandwich and prime steak frites. We sat down a little after 7, ordered around 7:10ish. The appetizer came out decent timing...our food didn't come out until 8:25...which we asked to be boxed because we had to get home. The server said the kitchen lost our ticket and her manager was going to take care us. She comp'd our soda and appetizer :( I think they should have comp'd the food that we waited over an hour for. Poor customer service. Once we finally got to eat the food the fries were soggy and the bun on the sandwich was cold. We found this place because my fiancé's parents told him they would pay for a fancy meal. Our birthdays are less than a week apart and they wanted to treat us. So I went on OpenTable and found this under the steakhouse. It was open during lunch and not as expensive as Flemings. The interior is gorgeous. It is spacious, high ceilings, and a giant wine cellar. We went at a really good time because there was very few people in the main dining area. I think something was going on in the bar area. There was only one waiter working and the poor guy had to run around servicing everyone. And I think maybe the manager was there too. But other than that, they were short staffed. I decided to order the filet mignon. They ran out of the 6oz and 12 oz, so all they had was the 8oz. I was like "Ok". It comes with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans. My fiancé got the steak frites. I also decided to get a glass of red wine...because nothing goes together better than steak and wine. With the entrées, you can add on soup or salad for $4, so I decided to add on the shrimp & lobster bisque. The bisque is creamy, not too salty. And it taste like lobster. There are tiny chunk of lobster in it. It is a small portion but if you have a small appetite, it can be filling. Our entrées were amazing. My fiancé's steak frites was tender, and the sauce on it was addicting. Both were cooked medium, as requested, and it was just tender and so easy to chew. It is also easier to cut (in my opinion.) But the filet mignon was the perfect pink inside, the perfect amount of seasoning so that it wasn't too salty or peppery (well I added pepper). Absolutely perfect. I mentioned earlier that our birthdays were less than a week apart. My birthday had just passed and my fiancé's was upcoming. When I made the reservation on OpenTable, there's an option to put what the occasion is. So I chose birthday. It showed up on the hostess' computer. When we walked in, she said "Happy Birthday". And the waiter brought up again when we ordered. At the end of our meals, the manager brought in dessert menus and told us to each pick a dessert and it was on him. So I got the Nutella crème brûlée and my fiancé go the chocolate meltdown. The crème brûlée is straightforward. The chocolate meltdown is a flourless chocolate torte, topped with chocolate mousse, covered with a half-chocolate dome. The dome gets melted with hot chocolate ganache. The manager poured it and it took some time to melt but it was still pretty good. I don't think the ganache was hot enough. But both desserts were so good. Really sweet and just so filling. Like you feel like you regret it, but at the same time it was totally worth it. Service was excellent and it was nice of them to give us dessert on the house. read more

The worst experience in Tucson. The poor couple next to us waited almost 15 minutes to have their table cleaned so they could sit down. He ordered a Bud - nope. Restaurant is out. My husband ordered chicken. Nope - restaurant is out. So her ordered a burger which took 40 minutes, and during that time my salad had already been brought out (without any dressing) and I had finished. Since his burger took so long he got a second glass of wine. New glass? Nope - no clean wine glasses. Sullivan's Steakhouse is a traditional steakhouse in ambiance and menu. We ordered from the "Sure Thing" menu which includes a starter, entree with sides and a desert for $48. I upgraded from a 8oz New York strip to a 12oz Ribeye for $7. Our other order was a 6oz filet mignon. We both got the mashed potatoes as a side, very good. We also ordered the Caesar salad and the soup for the starters, both were great. Both steaks were grilled to a perfect medium rare as requested and were very flavorful. I grill steaks at home and thought mine were really good but I'm rethinking my seasoning. Lastly I ordered the key lime pie, which was okay. We also ordered the bread pudding which was very good. Also when the server went through the menu when we arrived, they didn't mention the "Sure Thing" menu, if I hadn't reviewed the menu prior to going I wouldn't have known about it. The new GM, Joe Romanosky, not only has returned to his family roots back in Arizona, but brought members from his thriving Sullivan's - Charlotte, NC location with him. Joe is shaking things up and has begun to bring Sullivan's back to the forefront of people's minds for fine dining. Sullivan's has retained some of the best of the best personnel including Sarah and Hunter. This past weekend, I celebrated my birthday with my husband. Little did I know that my husband had called Joe and arranged an evening to remember. As I walked through the front door, Sarah had the BIGGEST smile on her face, and genuinely reflected warmth as she escorted us to our table. To my surprise and delight, we were situated at the prime (no pun intended) table. Booth, back of the room, directly facing the open kitchen on the opposing wall. Rose petals were strewn randomly across the pristine white tablecloth! Oh my goodness..... Moments after sitting, Joe came over and warmly welcomed us 'home'. While catching up, Hunter arrived and greeted us with an expansive wine list, supper options, and begun pouring Peligrino. Our appetizers consisted of champagne, shrimp cocktail, oysters from the East and West Coast, and a French loaf of warmed bread and butter. Our meal included Bone-in Tomahawk aged rib steaks, creamed spinach, asparagus, and garlic mashed potatoes. Dessert consisted of a chocolate mound. To die for! The presentation from Hunter was truly spectacular when he poured hot fudge over the dome so it would collapse inward to reveal a chocolate lover's delight. During our supper, Sarah came and took our photograph. Little did we know that at the end of our meal, we were presented our photo in a black frame with signatures from all. The service was impeccable. We were never without. We chose to dine slowly, relish in the rich decor, lively atmosphere, and truly marvel over our experience. Is there a way to give zero stars?? I went there NOT on New Year's Eve but the night before. We walked in at 7:15 for our 7:30 reservation. There was nobody at the hostess stand and we stood there looking around for 10 minutes before anyone showed up. When they finally did, they said they'd try to get us seated close to our reservation time. Hmm. Anyway, they sat us about 15 minutes late. Not horrible, but I should've known we were in for trouble. Our server greeted us a few minutes later and took our order. She brought out my wife's martini which she said was delicious. I had a Diet Coke, and you could see when she put it down that it was completely flat. It was. I got her attention and she brought out another Diet Coke also completely flat. Then finally she brought out another glass which she said she'd poured from a can because she and the manager were trying to get the co2 changed for the soda. Ok, so we ordered lobster bisque Bowls, and she brought out cups-we sent that back and she brought out bowls which looked like the same amount of soup as the cups, but oh well. Unfortunately the soup was quite cold and I was served a teaspoon for my soup so we sent it back, and the waitress finally returned with warm soup but now I had no spoon. Our waitress went to get me a soup spoon and never returned, so we flagged down another very nice waiter who brought me a soup spoon. An hour and a half later, we gave up waiting for our food-the waitstaff was standing around waiting for food to come out of the kitchen and it just wasn't happening. Btw, it wasn't all that busy at the time. We called the manager over and told her we'd had enough and she said "ok, just go". As we were leaving, we saw a party of four that sat down about 10 minutes before us. They were leaving because they never got served either. What a fiasco!! read more

Honestly not even sure where to start with the myriad of issues Sullivan's Steakhouse is treating their customers to, but let's run down the issues in order: 1. Our party arrived on time and was sat almost 45 minutes past our reservation time, which was made weeks ahead of time. 2. Our party was sat at a temporary folding table with folding chairs crammed inside of the dining room. The folding table (albeit covered with a tablecloth) was old, damaged and designed so you have to put the legs between your crotch to fit. The folding chairs were exceedingly uncomfortable and flimsy. 3. It took 30 minutes before the first food arrived at the table after ordering, which was a small loaf of bread which we were not offered and had to request several times. 4. The seafood bisque appetizer took around 45 minutes to arrive and had probably 3 tiny pieces of seafood in it. 5. The entrees are ludicrously overpriced for what you receive -- starting around $41 for an à la carte entree and sides that go up to $16 -- and the food is bland, small in portion and lukewarm. 6. It took over three hours from the reservation time arrival to signing the cheque when all food was quickly consumed. 7. Host and management is rude, apathetic and unapologetic. Blame shouldn't rest with the server; they tried their best given the poor circumstances they were thrust into. So, yeah...yikes. I have nothing but sympathy for service industry workers having worked many years in the industry myself and am forgiving to busy restaurants, especially on a holiday, but to fundamentally fail on every basic level of running restaurant, especially a supposedly upscale one, is shocking. It's 2022 and restaurants are obviously facing staffing issues post-pandemic, but Sullivan's loses all credibility for this excuse as, at least on Thanksgiving, they artificially expanded their dining capacity by squeezing at least 10 folding tables (each a 2-8 top) in the restaurant and seemingly doubled the capacity of their large outside patio, which obviously is enough to push the kitchen, serving and bussing staff to the brink even if 110% staffed. If management is at all worried about staffing at a restaurant, then it is absolutely inexcusable to overbook and significantly increase the normal capacity of the facility. But clearly Sullivan's is operating under the 2022 creed of "smaller portions, higher prices, worse customer experience, maximum profits." It's unclear which of the above issues were caused by local management, corporate management or both, but they are self-inflicted issues that deserve scorn. Finally it's worth nothing that while there are customers that a bad "high-end" dining experience doesn't impact, a lot of people, including those in the service industry, save up to take their families out on holidays. To virtually ruin an entire family holiday meal due to greed and poor management is sad indeed. Based on the vast amount of customer dissatisfaction overheard, Sullivan's will be facing a tough road ahead of them with the poor word of mouth. But hey, at least then they shouldn't need the folding tables anymore! read more

We have given this place so many opportunities to impress us but it just isn't what it used to be. It feels like a restaurant dinosaur that needs to retire. Service is beyond poor and often times weird...meaning their staff makes you feel like you are in a bad dream, like the red room in Twin Peaks. Last time we went, server was awkward, tablecloth had wine stains from previous customers, my side dish had butter smeared all over it as if they just left the plate on the table from the previous party and to top it off the food was.....meh, sub-par, mediocre.
