This restaurant has a serious management problem. We had a reservation on Christmas day for 4:45. We were lucky enough to get a seat in the bar next to a couple with a 4:15 reservation. At 5:30, neither couple had been seated. People with reservations were waiting over an hour and a half just to be seated. Tim, the bartender, did a great job and actually suggested we consider staying at the bar and ordering there. I'm ok with eating at the bar, and we enjoyed the company of the other couple and really enjoyed the food, but watching all of those people mill around in the lobby waiting for a table was a bit disconcerting. After we ordered and we received our salads and bread and then proceeded to wait close to another hour for our entrees. It seems like most of the reviews recently are the same. Someone needs to figure out how to run that place. On the plus side, the food was outstanding....in particular the filet. And again, Tim did a great job in a really tough situation. read more

We came here for our 7 year anniversary. I chose this place because I wanted king crab legs. Unfortunately, they said they ran out of crab legs. We started off with calamari. We both thought it was too sweet. I then got a salad to start, it was just ok. My husbands ceaser salad was good, but he said it's the first time he had to use a knife to cut up his salad because it was served with whole leaves, instead of cut up. My husband said his steak was also good. I ended up getting lobster tails and it was tough. The drawned butter I dipped it in tasted weird. I had my husband taste it and he agreed. We both thought, "how do you mess up butter"? Service was great. They recognized our special day with roses petals on the table and a card, and a complimentary dessert. This review is for Happy Hour in the bar. You would think being an upscale steakhouse that they could cook some sliders without hammering them, but no. Dry, overcooked and just downright flavorless. Quite possibly the worst sliders I've ever had, even places like Red Robin make better sliders. Service was not good. They left pretty much the whole bar to one bartender/waitress (go easier on the perfume, it was overpowering). The shrimp eggrolls were OK but something you would get at PF Chang's. Oh and the music, way too loud. Ease it back, music in a bar in an upscale steakhouse should be background, not front and center. read more

So, as I said in my last review a year ago, which Sullivan's ignored, we had a Christmas tradition of going there on Christmas Eve since 2013. Last year was so bad we said we would go to Flemings this year, and it was a great choice. Flemings this year was everything Sullivan's used to be. It was worth every cent, unlike Sullivan's a year ago. That brand knows how to do high end steak house. I'm very sad that Sullivan's has turn into just an overpriced Olive Garden. This is the second time I have been to Sullivans when I have come to visit AZ. It was the part of the trip I most looked forward to; returning here to eat. Both times I have had the filet and both times it has been exceptional. The server, Hunter was very attentive to our table and helped to bring an easy and enjoyable experience. Went to happy hour last night and it was note enjoyable. It was hot in the bar area and the bar bites (spicy shrimp eggroll and beef wellington) were awful. The only thing positive about the evening was the hibiscus martini and the wait staff. The air conditioning was broken, staff said 3 weeks, the manager said 3 days. He didn't seem to concerned about it and said we could move to the restaurant. I recommend you avoid Sullivan's until they fix the a/c. read more

Went because we had gift cards as well as it was also our anniversary. Hubby had The prime, New York strip, and the iceberg wedge and the garlic, mashed potatoes. I had the small fillet mignon, loaded baked potato, and started with the French onion soup. The New York strip was good, but no better than any other steakhouse at half the price. He thought there was a little too much garlic in the mashed potatoes, I tasted them and thought they were delicious, but they were not very hot. The steak was also cooked appropriately. My steak was to be medium and came out closer to medium well. The manager came around and actually took a look at my steak without me even complaining and she's the one that said it looks like it was close to well done. They did give an $11 discount, but the steak was not cooked correctly - I added A1 sauce, which improved everything. The French onion soup was four stars but not out of this world. The loaded baked potato was good but if you consider loaded a teaspoon of butter, a teaspoon of sour cream and 12 little pieces of bacon, then ok -I would not consider that loaded. The service was not impeccable. There were lingering wait times, but servers were friendly, and I was impressed that the manager actually came around to each table. Our dog had some nice steak scraps as I didn't eat 1/2 of mine. We won't go back. read more

We came here (our first time) to celebrate my husbands milestone birthday. There were 4 of us all together. Everyone raved about how great their meal was. My husband thought his lamb was exceptionally good. Our server was very attentive. We went all out- fancy drinks, appetizer, wine with dinner etc. The bill at the end of the nite ended up being the most money I had ever spent in a restaurant in my life (I picked up the tab) - close to $500. That said, it was a wonderful, memorable evening and since it was a special birthday, worth every penny. I would have given them 5 stars, but the woman who came to our table who said she would be back to take our complimentary photo never followed through. A group of 5 of us went on a Monday for dinner at 7 PM. Perhaps because it was the Monday after a busy weekend, but they somehow did not have at least 5 of the items from the food or drink menu that we requested. The food seemed old and not fresh. The service was rather slow and the waitress provided no special effort or care. It seemed like we were a nuisance rather than paying customers. We were sitting on the patio and had to retrieve our own silverware from other tables. When asked for additional plates, the waitress retrieved a plate from an outdoor table. At other steakhouses, waiters bring warm plates from a plate warmer inside. We also repeatedly requested for the heaters to be turned on - no one bothered to check it. So my husband and I are usually a Fleming's couple since our last adventure to Sullivan's but we thought what the hell let's give it another go. We started the evening with Mac n cheese and the shrimp and lobster bisque and both were great!! Actually I would come back just for that bisque. It was amazing!! Our main meals we went with something that we usually don't do. I ordered the French dip and he went with the Hickory burger. Honestly everything but my boring French dip was delicious. My husband was happy with his burger. What was wrong with my prime rib French dip was overcooked, tasteless meat with no toppings to add a punch to it. My waiter mentioned a new cook and sous chef so maybe they are working out the kinks hopefully they read this and decide to maybe add some grilled onions or mushrooms or maybe provolone to it. The key lime was ok, smallest slice ever and 2 people didn't even finish it. The part that was a tad annoying was the service. My waiter literally checked on us over 20 times within a 60 min spread. He would let me know his every move. Not gonna lie it was over done and a little annoying. When you go to these finer restaurants it should be a little in between. Let people enjoy the setting and quiet atmosphere be attentive by watching and only interrupting the table when you observe drinks are low or they are needing something. read more

We went there last night for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. We spent several hundred dollars including a nice bottle of wine. Waitress took our entire order at once, which included appetizers, salads and steak. They practically delivered all together. I asked them to hold off a bit when salads showed up on top of appetizers. They must have had the steaks ready to serve already and somehow kept them warm. We they did arrive they were so dried out they were not very good, so chewy. Will not go back, I'm guessing they try to turn their tables every half an hour! read more

Went for my husband's birthday. We we're both very disappointed. While the cocktails were great and the calamari was delicious the rest of the meal was dreadful. The onion bisque was inedible it was so salty. The steaks were very salty and the filet was tough. The first filet was not cooked as ordered so I had to watch my husband eat while I waited for a second. The food was room temperature at best. The deserts were good but we waited a very long time for them. I ordered a glass of wine to drink with my dinner and I had to remind the server 3 times before I got it. If we return it would be to the bar for cocktails and calamari. We spent over $200 for a very poor meal and poor service. read more

The hostess knew it was his birthday and there was a happy birthday note waiting on the table for him. Our waitress Mo was amazing we couldn't remember the wine we liked and she found it just from description of the bottle. We started with the the calamari and it was delish! Had lunch here today. First and last time. Ordered two simple things burger medium no bun. Came well done. Got sautéed spinach instead of the fries and it was cold and sent back to heat. The Nashville chicken sandwich but in lettuce wrap and it was missing the slaw, which was the only topping. Took server 10 minutes to bring the requested ranch for the dry chicken since the slaw was missing. Very expensive and disappointing. Server slow and unknowledgeable. read more

First time there, Christmas day lunch 2024 with 9 friends. Called ahead and hostess stated regular lunch menu but dinner menu only on Christmas day. I'm a light lunch eater so I had the Market fresh greens which was good and fresh. One of the waiters told me the Tableside BLT salad wasn't that good, but it looked OK to me and a large portion. Lots of dressing though, so if you don't like lots of dressing don't order. The Spinach Salad next to me on our table looked OK. The Iceburg Lettuce Wedge that was shared on our table was pretty good. The bad news is that the Herb Brick Chicken my wife had was two hard dried out pieces of chicken breast that was like something pulled out of the fridge and reheated. The mashed potatoes and spicy peppers topping was good. Across from me the salmon looked dry with dried out spinach leaves. I'm from Hawaii so I know what good fish looks like and this wasn't it. The Sweet Potato Casserole and Mash Potato sides not sure which one were good but be advised huge and will serve 4. The steaks looked pretty good. This is a high end expensive restaurant north side Tucson where the money is, so obviously a lot of folks there that are spending hundreds of dollars on a meal is no problemo for them. Lunch and Bar Menu are more reasonable, might go back for that. Otherwise value for the dollar IMHO is low unless you have money coming out of your ears. The ambiance is good, just go for lunch, an appetizer, happy hour, bar menu etc. BTW I live in Tucson, don't know how Yelp has me in SF. By the way, the wines start at 13 dollars a glass all the way up to 35 dollars a glass plus. Look at the wine menu before you order and go to the bar and have the bartender pour out of the bottle so you can actually see what you're getting. Almost all the appetizers are worth it! The filet mignon as an entree 10/10. Side dish must are Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes. Dessert for sure get the banana's foster. You could totally live without the shrimp cocktail and the Brussel sprouts! The fish options are ok, but the sea bass and Brussel sprouts are better from Flemings... can't say the same about the filet mignon. We have been here many times and are always pleased. This time we tried something new and weren't as impressed. We didn't even touch the Brussel sprouts and told the serve we were not a fan but he didn't even try to offer us something different or take it off our bill. Overall, we will be back but will not be trying something different from our norm next time. read more

Bottom Line Up Front - 2/5 A classic steakhouse that has all the elements and potential for excellence but needs some adjustments. Service - 5/5 The waitstaff was excellent. Prompt, knowledgeable, and courteous. Every person we interacted with demonstrated a standard that is clearly reflective of good training and high expectations. This is the sort of staff that should be an example for most restaurants in town. Personality - 5/5 This is what you would expect from a "classic" or "standard" steakhouse. Interesting old photos, 50's and 60's lounge music playing as a sonic canvas for conversation and a pleasant dining experience. The menu is not extensive, rather tightly focused on items that indicate pride in what is on offer which leads to the expectations of a high level of proficiency in execution. Quality - 2/5 The problem with being "classic" or "standard" is that guests have expectations and immediately make comparisons to previous experiences. The thought "is this better or worse than what we had at the other place" is always on their mind. As good or better is success, while worse is clearly not. My guest had the crab cake (charred to a crust on the bottom) and the scallops (seared to a dark coffee color and very overdone) with a side of brussel sprouts (more mushy with char than blanched and then charred). I had the oysters on the half shell (3 had several significant pieces of shell in them and two had sand in them) and the ribeye (cooked as asked) with garlic shrimp on the side (these were fine). Because of the quality of execution we decided not to try anything on the dessert menu because they were all "classic" items we enjoy and did not want to see prepared poorly. I do not want to "slam" the restaurant, rather provide a hopefully constructive comment. You have a great facility, well trained staff, excellent wine list, a focused menu, and great products to prepare, so focus on excellent preparation and things will be tremendous. Recommendation - 3/5 If you want a nice atmosphere, great wine, and a nicely cooked steak, I recommend this place. Once a few items are prepared properly this will become the standard other restaurants will have to achieve, not the other way around. read more

We came an hour early sit in the bar and was still overlooked and people was seated in front of us. Was trying to checkout at the bar and could not get assistance for a while. My wife was trying to get us seated while I was trying to get closed out. Could not get anyone to even recognize I needed help. May wife engaged with the manager and then began to get better. I joined three other diners to celebrate a Birthday. Overall my dining companions loved their meals. We ordered a NY rare, crab cakes, Black Snapper, and Salmon. I am a 50 year veteran of Hotel and Restaurant kitchens across the country and truthfully my expectations in corporate restaurant are already low. I looked at the steaming entrees of my companions and watched as one companion touched a HOT plate and drew back with an Oh thats HOT. The Snapper was steaming beautifully presented and looked fresh and enticing. The steak was perfect for my companion. When my salmon arrived the plate was almost COLD I ordered the salmon MR and just from looking at the fish I knew it would be dry and flaky and the lime cilantro sauce uninspired The meal was barely warm at the beginning and COLD and dry by the last bite. It was a bewilderment to me how one entree was so destroyed. I guess it's the age we live in to take these slights personally. As I looked around the Dining room and Exhibition Kitchen, the stainless steel was smoked and greasy beyond the expectation of daily cleaning. EXHIBITION KITCHENS are opportunities to SHINE which this restaurant did not take advantage of. Cobwebs blew in the air around the light fixtures. I understand the dynamic tension between generations and how that plays out in service environments. The low energy level of the staff, to me reflected, the energy of the management. read more
