3-1/2 stars Having come to Sullivan's Steakhouse before for a Yelp event, I was excited to come here for our anniversary dinner. Bottom line was the service was great, and the food good. It didn't blow me out of the water, however. We ordered fixe prix style, which is $44 per person and comes with choice of salads or soup, four entrées, and four choices of dessert. My wife had a Caesar salad, filet Mignon, and Key Lime pie. I had the lobster bisque, New York strip, and strawberry cheesecake. They also gave us a dessert for our anniversary and we choose the peanut butter pie. All the food was good. The croutons in her salad were definitely hardy in texture. My bisque was OK, but not the best tasting bisque I've ever had, a bit disappointing, actually. Both of our steaks were cooked the way we like them. My wife really enjoyed her filet. Her mashed potatoes had a horse radish flavor and it was tasty. My mashed potatoes had Gruyere cheese and bacon bits, quite tasty. We enjoyed our desserts. Her Key Lime pie was one of the best I've ever had. My cheesecake was OK. Later, we enjoyed the peanut butter pie. I don't know--it was all good, but just didn't knock my socks off. We both agreed that for the money, Wildflower would have been more enjoyable, and had money not been the factor, Wildflower still would have won. I guess when I spend over $50 a person to eat, I expect to be blown away. It was very good, mind you, but I was not blown away. Apparently, many really enjoy Sullivan's as the place was packed. I enjoyed the steaks at Fleming's better and they were about the same price. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. I wish I can give this place no stars. There's so much waiters and waitresses but there's no reason why I should have to wait about 2 hours just to get served food. We made reservations for 8:30pm was told not to be late or else we would be charged a late fee. They didn't seat us till about 8:45pm then we literally had bee waiting to eat food for over 2 hours for a party of about 9 people. This is not the place to come to eat at all. Been a LONG time since we've been to Sullivan's, say 5 years or so. As Betsy M. put it, "The decor and ambiance had not changed much at all in over ten years......" My Wife & I were here in celebration of my birthday, but didn't reveal it to the staff because we do not like notoriety. There were a lot of servers near the podium upon out arrival, but we still had to wait for the Maitre' d hotel to greet us and assign is a table. Social distancing was in effect; the circumference tables were occupied and the center table was reserved for a party of ten, maybe; I didn't count. Service was slow. Our waiter blamed it on the bar staff being busy but we watched him being a "Chatty Cathy" with several of the patrons. Aside from that, they were out of some of the more popular entrees. Blame being cast upon the supplier. A different review platform had a review that they were out of certain items three days prior. Anyway, it didn't affect our ordering decision. The wait for both the "starters" and the entre'es were overly lengthy. We overheard a comment of a a server to a couple next to us whom he blamed it onto a large, corporate party in the adjoining function room. The appetizers were great, no problems. The main dishes came out after a while. Our entree's were OK; nothing to write home about, just entry level cuisine OK. Mine was missing a component but it was taken care of late, post service, after inquiry. We declined a desert, paid the bill and left. Back at the hotel (yes, we had to travel about 75 miles to get to Tucson), we commiserated about the meal. Verdict; we were both disappointed. Seems as Sullivan's has lost it's appeal that we had for it "back in the day," when we'd travel there for an hour just for lunch! My Wife stated she was disappointed the last time we were there for dinner and equally, if not more disappointed this time, being a family event. Doubtful if we'll ever return. (As an aside, the website lists suggests "Fine dining." We interpret that as "business casual" attire and dressed accordingly. Tee shirts; both logo and lettered, ripped jeans, denim vests, shorts and flat brimmed athletic hats do not appear to be business related to us. Rest in Peace, Sully! read more

Ugh - out of work shape. Busy and out of baked potatoes at 8pm meat was lower grade in quality and service for two over 90 minutes from order time. Not one manager in site and staff would not make eye contact. Over two hundred dollar ticket for two. Service was a 6 and food was a 4. So much room for improvement. read more

The Good: * the restaurant is well lit for a steakhouse * French onion soup was delicious The Bad: * my sister ordered a special with the rib eye and a king lobster leg ($50) .. be aware IT ONLY CAME WITH ONE LEG. omg who does that. * both of our steak plates came out, and it wasn't hot.. normally, the steakhouses i usually go to.. the plates are sizzlin' hot * the steak was warm and almost cold... our steaks took so long to come to the table, so maybe that's why our steak was close to not even being warm! * I ordered the prefixe menu with the mushroom steak? yeahhhhh it was HORRIBLE. it was basically teriyaki sauce placed onto my steak. so nasty. I am up'ping my star rating on Sullivan's based on last weeks visit to Tucson while accompanying my boyfriend on his business trip. We both love coming to Tucson and both love a great steak. From past visits for us both to Sullivan's, we knew we could get a great martini and dinner here near our resort. We took a car service to Sullivan's so that we could take advantage of the dirty Martinis! Do not miss the Sullivan's martini if you come here! It is a treat! There are several vodkas and gins to choose from; even a pineapple infused vodka that you can sample if you are unsure. We decided to sit in the bar during happy hour and enjoy one of these Martinis and catch up on our day before dinner; our bartender, Ayla was above board, amazing! She makes a mean martini and even gave us the choice of olives! Blue cheese, of course! I spoke in depth to her about France, where I lived for a couple of years and gave her tips on her upcoming honeymoon. She gifted me a champagne cork to keep the bubbles in a corked bottle after I mentioned losing my favorite one from Piper Heidseck in Reims, France. She is a 5 all on her own! I told her to find my Yelp page and view my France stuff :) I wanted to spend all night talking to her ! That's a great bartender! On to dinner we went. The dining room was pretty empty so we had our choice of seats. We knew we wanted filets. Scott had the three 4 oz filets with a different topping on each: Gorgonzola and garlic; French fried onions; and a Merlot reduction. He opted for a wedge salad with blue cheese. I had the prix fixe meal. For $42 I had the shrimp cocktail : 3 large chilled prawns and a zesty cocktail sauce ; the shrimp/crab bisque ( so creamy/a little spicy/ yummy!; my filet was overcooked. Since it's a primo steakhouse and it's a pricey steak , I had to send it back. I always feel bad when I send food back, but I also feel, you can't complain if you don't let the staff know. The waitress was sweet and apologetic. I did notice the chef and his assisting chef consult with the manager before doing another filet over at the kitchen, which is open to the dining room. The manager came over and apologized and stated he wanted to comp us a dessert of our choice for the 'trouble' . We weren't planning on dessert, so that was a nice treat. My filet came out perfect and was now the 10 oz! Yikes! The bread here is amazing and so is the extensive wine list. It's cool when you order a bottle to watch the waitress or waiter go into the glass enclosed wine cellar and retrieve the bottle as some are pretty high! Our comp'd dessert was the bananas foster bread pudding. We were so full we had it boxed and bagged and carried it back to our resort. The next day this dessert was amazing! We also took two nice cigars off the cigar menu to bring back home for later. It's treats in a great steakhouse like this that make you want to return again and again.. :-) read more

I've eaten Sullivan's a couple of times and really enjoyed my experiences both times. The first time I came I got the sure thing, which is a pretty good deal even if the options are a bit limited. The most recent time I came, I opted not to get the sure thing so I'd have more to choose from. Our table ended up getting a crab cake starter, which was to die for, and the cheesesteak egg rolls, which I heard were fabulous. I got scallops as my main dish and they were wonderful. They were cooked beautifully and the sauce was tasty. For sides we got mashed potatoes, broccoli, and mushrooms and we enjoyed all of them. I don't eat beef, so I really enjoy all of the seafood and chicken options that Sullivan's has. It's a lot more compared to most steakhouses. read more

We had a party of 8. Our server, Rex, was great and the rest of the staff was very professional and welcoming. The drinks, appetizers, and side dishes were all good. This should have made for an amazing dinner except almost every single steak that came out was overcooked. Imagine... paying $69 for a piece of extremely tough bone-in Wagyu or a tough dry aged tomahawk Ribeye. It was terribly disappointing and we felt ripped off. One person in our party sent her Filet back. Medium rare somehow ended up being well done (gray, tough, and chewy). The filet that came back was perfectly cooked medium rare. The rest of us, mostly full from appetizers and the sides (all of which were delicious) ended up not wanting to make a scene and simply took most of our steaks to go. How would we gracefully send back 8 steaks? My bone-in dry aged ribeye was the worst steak I've every had in a high end steakhouse. My husband was extremely disappointed with his Wagyu which was tough, over done, and no better than a $11 sirloin steak you might purchase from a low end diner. Both of these steaks are special items and should have been cooked medium rare and tasted juicy and amazing. A lot of the meat looked overcooked just by looking at it in the plate. The chef should never have sent it out to us especially in a reputable establishment like Sully's. If you overcook the meat, don't send it out and see who would complain. Do it right. Your high prices should reflect the high standards to which you hold your food. Two years ago, this place was top notch and the food was amazing. I've now come back a couple other times and it's very disappointing that this restaurant has declined this much. read more

Disclaimer: this is a review of the lounge/bar area only Yummy signature drinks, "the knockout" is my favorite, while relaxing with good company and listening to jazz (certain nights only) is a perfect evening in my book. IRONY: spending $150 to use a $50 gift card. So my parents received a gift card to Sullivan's and we thought we would go ahead and use it, but I thought it funny that you had to spend quite a bit more than the gift card value just to redeem it. The ambience of Sullivan's is old money Chicago gangster, with plenty of dark wood and black and white pictures of Capone and friends on the walls. The crowd is mostly older foothills folks with old money. Service is excellent as you would expect from a steakhouse of this calibre. Our waiter was on top of everything, but I recall the bill took a little longer to arrive at the end. The food was excellent and my steak was cooked perfectly. I actually liked my steak without sauce, although I did try a couple of the sauces and they were ok but not mind-shattering. Great happy hour! Came here this evening with a group of 10 or so and the place was busy for a Wednesday evening. While I was there with a group of friends solely interested in catching up with each other, I can't help but watch the bar crowd. Not quite as obvious as Flemings for the foothills crowd meat market but hell, it's fun to watch! Prices are outstanding for select drinks and bar food. I loved my super refreshing drink, the Spiked Mint Lemonade and ate it with The Best Burger in Town, a large burger topped with your choice of cheeses...bleu cheese please! What a bargain this was, just six bucks for that big boy! Across my table, W ordered the Bleu Cheese Chips, a huge plate of potato chips covered in melted bleu cheese and scallions. She let me sample her dish and I will definitely be getting that next time I'm here! I'd love to come back for a real meal but with happy hour prices like this, it's hard to gravitate away from the bar! read more

Let me start off with saying that we got to the steakhouse right when they opened. First I ordered oysters Rockefeller, I got for oysters on a plate no bigger than a quarter. They were cold and hard. Not good at all unfortunately, my bad for eating them. Then we ordered steak and a salad with garlic shrimp and a lobster tail.Lobster tail and salad was really good, the steak was not attractive looking at all, it was surrounded by a big thick wedge of fat and then the meat itself was stringy and not edible. The general manager was very nice about it, and we did not end up paying for part of it but still paid a pretty good chunk of change. At about 8 o'clock after leaving the restaurant I became violently ill. It was not a good experience, I don't know what made me so very sick. I wish I would have read the reviews before we went. It has been a very long time since we've been to Sullivans, and the last experience wasn't that great either. The general manager was very nice her name was Sandy and she was very apologetic but what good does that do when you're spending eight hours face first into a toilet bowl. I would not recommend eating at Sullivans. I used to love this place. I would strongly suggest reading reviews on yelp before going to any restaurants! So Sullivans did reach out to me, and asked me to go to their website to explain what happened. But when I went to the website it's not user-friendly so sorry I couldn't do it. But I did try. It doesn't make it any less frustrating when they try to reach out to you to you know see what happen and their website doesn't work. I got to the first question where it asked if I dined in in on what date. When I clicked on the next button it didn't go anywhere, it just kept throwing up open windows in my browser that showed nothing. So I stick with my first yelp review that I would not go back to this place. I wish I could take my one star away, but you can't put up a yelp review if you don't at least give one star. So we came here excited for happy hour. It looks like it would be a super rocking deal for happy hour. I guess we should have researched it better, but happy hour was only in the bar area, and my boyfriend's kids were with us. Even if they are able to seat us in that area with children present there was a VERY LOUD band playing in a very small space. I totally understand live music, and adding to the environment that way, but this was SO SO loud for such a small space. I think if I'd sat there I would have left with a headache, and none of us could hear each other talk. If I want music that loud I'll go to a bar where I expect it, or a club or something. I just wanted to have a dinner with my boyfriend and his kids. We decided on main dining room seating due to the loud band. And that's when we found out happy hour was not applicable. Well, too late. Kids are hungry. We are hungry. We're already there. Zinburger looked super crowded or frankly we probably would have gone there. But my boyfriend loves a good steak, so we decided to go for it anyway. The drinks were fine. Solid cocktails, standard varied wine menu. I'm a vegetarian so I got the tableside salad which was fine. Standard steakhouse salad. I just requested it without bacon. My boyfriend got a steak and an enhancement (Oscar style, I think), and he was so disappointed. He did not particularly care for the steak and found the sauce to make it less edible. Plus they forgot the crab at first and had to bring out later. For spending that much on a steak + enhancement he was really not pleased. I got their cream style spinach, but it's just not as solid as Fleming's . And we got the broccoli, which was completely underdone and almost inedible. All-in-all I was highly disappointed, as was my boyfriend. If we'd paid only happy hour prices, maybe it would have been worth it, but for paying as much as you spend at Fleming's for something comparable, it was about 1/2 the quality. If you're going to splurge on a nice steak dinner and are choosing between Sullivan's and Fleming's, I'd go Fleming's all the way. read more

I used to think this was the best happy hour in town, but I was sadly disappointed from my last visit. The happy hour prices had increased by $1, and the portions of food were drastically reduced. I remembered the "Best Burger in Town" as a generous amount of meat, and this last visit revealed a much smaller patty. I used to love the huge serving of the blue cheese chips at the happy hour price, and this menu item also "shrank." The food is still tasty, but you definitely have to order more now, since all the portions are much much smaller. I guess the economy is taking it's toll? read more

Finally my lady & I went to Sullivan's. We celebrated my birthday complements of my lady. Over the years we have received mixed feedback from friends. Overall, the best part of our visit was the happy hour drinks. Martinis and Margaritas were a cut above. We can't say the same about our dinner meal. A steakhouse of this supposedly top reputation should provide top food for their upscale price. They didn't disappoint on the upscale price but the food did not deserve the price charged. We had steaks; filet & ribeye. Neither were exceptional, particularly for the price! Flavor was almost average although cooked as requested. We shared a large fully loaded baked potato. It surely was not worth the $12.50. It needed at least another 20 + minutes in the oven. Disappointing. We did enjoy the complimentary keylime pie for dessert. The Ambiance is delightful but can be a bit noisy. The menu offers many excellent dishes and once arrived the flavor is excellent; however presentation of the item ordered is lacking, No garnish on the plate whatsoever ( I ordered steak ). Also, it took FOREVER to arrive which is unacceptable hence my star rating. The service was good and attentive. Not the caliber for the prices paid. Beautiful place. Beautiful wait staff that is well trained. I have only eaten in the bar and enjoyed items off the happy hour menu. Some nights they have live music - a jazz band was quite good. I have gone here for a number of Meetup events. They have a great patio that is quite large. After 5 pm the parking can get really tight in that area. read more

No one knew who was attending our table even though there was hardly anyone there.Their co 2 was out, and that meant no soda and some mixed drinks were unavailable. We had to ask for our drink order twice, and then we were told the c 02 was out. It took forever for someone to take our order, and it took forever for the order to come. They were out of some of the dishes. When our plates did arrive, all the food was cold ( I'm not sure the baked potato was even cooked) and tasted bland. If we had gone to McDonald's, at least they have heat lamps to keep the food warm while it just sits there on the shelf till someone gets around picking it up. By far the most expensive and worst meal we have had. At $400.00, I think you should expect a little more. The cost would have been more if we'd been able to get drinks instead of just water. This was absolutely the worst meal I have ever had. Our family went there for Thanksgiving dinner (10 of us) - we had reservations at 7pm. They didn't seat us until almost 8pm. They were out of turkey (grrr), so we ordered steak, but they were also out of baked potatoes. It took them another hour + to bring our food. All would have been forgotten if the meal rocked. It didn't. Everyone's steak was cooked wrong and cold. They cooked the crap out of the mashed potatoes with lobster. We talked to the manager and although she took some steaks off our bill, she clearly should not be a manager. Sullivan's used to be the best. We will never go back. read more

Food: We went with the 3course meal (42$): appetizer, soup/salad, entree. Husband got cheesesteak egg rolls, Caesar salad, and New York strip. Egg rolls were an interesting concept, comes with some sauce on it and mustard which I'm fine with. Husband doesn't like mustard that much. It's also kinda heavy. Also, should be labeled egg roll; it's one egg roll cut into two pieces Caesar salad is normal. Nothing amazing. New York strip was cut into 5-6 medallion pieces, appeared to be cooked to medium rare and generally tasted good. Husband's comments are that it was good but not amazing, not bursting with flavor or anything. Medallions were over mashed potatoes I got calamari, fresh greens salad, filet mignon. Calamari has a sweet and sour sauce. I don't like my Calamari that way, but that's just me. Generally the flavors were good, balanced, crunchy enough and not too much, and the bean sprouts in it were refreshing. I really liked the fresh green salad with a lot of fresh ground pepper. Flavors were light and refreshing, felt great to eat it after the heavy egg roll! Greens tasted great and there was corn on it too. I liked it so much I took half home. Filet mignon was great, lightly seasoned so it still had a lot of its own flavors, and the sauce it came with and the mashed potatoes it came on just added to it. Mashed potatoes had a good butter flavor to them and slight horseradish. Great balance. I'm so full!! Lastly, because it was our anniversary, they treated us to a dessert. Thanks!! We got the banana pudding which, although quite sweet, was really good! The middle was soft and juicy and the outer edges were harder and chewy. I really wish this place was at least decent. We had a gift card so we went back l, hoping our experience would be better but it was NOT. They were out of 6 dishes on a limited menu which was ok, we weren't going to order them anyway. So I got the brick chicken - traditionally baked, broiled or grilled, but this one came deep fried (nowhere on the menu was this mentioned), it was described as "herbed" but there was no seasoning whatsoever; the menu said it came with cherry peppers and balsamic onions - it came with cherry peppers and jalapeños. The mashed potatoes were dry. It. Was. Gross. $30 dog food. My husband got a steak ... steak at this price should NOT need any kind of sauce but this one did. Definitely will not go back. Sullivans showed on their site as an upperclass steakhouse. Their menu prices seem to reflect that. Their steaks are prices along the same lines as a Flemings, Mortons and other high end steakhouses. We went for the happy hour/Bar bites. The bar bites and the drinks were good. We enjoyed them. However, this Sullivans location is in desperate need of a facelift. The bar area has a ceiling that is filthy. Tiles were black or blackened in many areas. The outside dining area had shabby, faded curtains hanging in knots and were in need of updating. The men's and women's bathrooms had broken and missing floor tiles. In general, the whole place looked tired. Our waiter was good until we wanted to pay and we lost him. We were only one of three parties in the bar area. We waited for more than 10 minutes and then I had to go to ask the bartender (who walked past us at least 10 times while we were there and never once caught our eyes or smiled at us). Surprisingly, she asked, where we were seated(?!?) We were directly in front of her in the bar- about 5 feet away. She had waited on the table right next to us. This was odd but not a big deal. Just strange from a high end place that would typically have customer oriented employees who want to be sure their customers are enjoying themselves. First of all FOOD was excellent, I had the bisque and the wrapped bacon scallops and wasn't disappointed at all. Didn't try the food my family order but they looked happy. (Pic: onion soup, fried calamari) Service was good, waiter was attentive and happy to explain the menu. Place is nice, low light, great to go with a date or friends, wouldn't recommend it for children. I'm giving 4 stars to this place because after we ate our entrees it took a long time for the main course to be served. Good thing food was delicious. read more

Definitely not worth the hype that everyone in Tucson gives it. It is a pricey restaurant, about $50 per plate & that doesn't include sides or starters or drinks. The food was mediocre at best, not worth what we paid for. Luckily the atmosphere was very nice, (dark & intimate) and the servers paid well attention to us. Really 3.5, meaning I'd try it again but not for a while. The french dip was expected to be better at $18, the meat was on the dry side. I really hate to say it but the bun was the best part, done well. Fries on deee limp side. I'll take a mulligan , har-har, and give em another swing,hee-hee, but will try something else. The French Onion Soup: I've only had better in Paris ... The 8 oz. Filet Minion (rare): Five stars! Cooked and seasoned perfectly, with crisp thin green beans (could have stood an extra 30 seconds in the pan), excellent potatoes, and a Bordelaise sauce that was heaven. We celebrated my mom's 79th birthday and the staff treated us very well. Sandy, the manager was really attentive and had the most outstanding memory! Our waiter Nicholas knew his menu and his timing was perfect. We loved his personality and he was pleasant on the eyes too! We had the Ribeye filet and bone in Ribeye, crab stuffed shrimp, lobster mashed potatoes, all of which was tasty. The ambiance and all parts of the restaurant were well kept, clean and felt safe with hand sanitizer everywhere. The staff wore masks and the seating was spaced out. I loved the background music! Although the atmosphere is nice the service and food leave something to be desired. The I got the filet mignon and it wasn't any different than what I cook at home. We waited over an hour for our food as well. Very disapointed. Also felt unwelcomed because we were called riff raff by a different customer. We had reservations for two at 6:15. We arrived 15 minutes early so we had a few minute wait. We were taken to a four top with four covers. First impression of a 5 star restaurant not very good. We were seated and waiter took two of the covers off. So now we are left to move the covers over to where we we actually seated. The waiter Hunter tried to do his best. He went over the drink specials and I believe my wife had a Knockout. The drink was fine and she eventually had another. I on the other hand am a 2 beer a year person. I like pale ales and chose one. Off goes Hunter. He comes back and bartender didn't pay the beer vender it seems. I couldn't get a Sierra Nevada. Maybe I should have stopped to the Circle K and picked them up a 6 pack. I chose another pale ale. Off goes Hunter. He came back disappointed. My second choice refused. I let Hunter know just to pick one and bring it back. The vender must have liked Lagunitas IPA and gave the bartender a freebie. We chose an appetizer, the CheeseSteak Egg Rolls. Sounded interesting. Two little egg rolls came back they looked lonely save for the sweet and sour sauce. It saved the day! As I normally do I get up to use the restroom. For a 5 star they could have spent a couple extra dollars in there. You do your business and wash your hands with the sparse soap afforded and low and behold the entire roll of Paper Towels is just sitting on the sink. Where is maintenance when you need them. Hunter did well on my return by offering up specials not on the menu. We declined the Shrimp Calamari I think that's what it was. So we were set to order main course. Hunter recommended to me a 14 oz Aged New York Strip and my wife chose the Salmon. We added sides and we were set. He put in the order and started assisting the next table. When he did his orchestrated prep he mentioned the Shrimp Calamari to the table. That table wanted that item. Off Hunter goes and to no surprise on my face the Chef told him that item was no good and they won't be serving it. I'm now in shock It's 7 ish and not only are beer choices OOS but the Shrimp Special has been 86'd. Well needless to say we received our meals and I'm not a fan of the deconstructed plates. Even in fine dining restaurants I get the entree and the sides on the same plate. This was a tad confusing when there comes a plate of Asparagus, a plate with a potato, and a plate with a steak on it. Folks I don't mind my food touching! The salmon was excellent says my better half. The steak seemed as though it were aged in the desert sun. I've had aged beef before and it was tender and juicy. This steak left me wanting. The highlight of the meal for me is when Hunter through his diligence with remembering details honed in that it was our anniversary. He swooped in with a complimentary desert and two glasses of champagne.
