I've been to Sullivan's multiple times for various events and just regular dine-out experiences, with each trip superb, until my most recent take-out (funky, fatty cuts and foamy bearnaise sauce, at full-price, which was disappointing). Sullivan's is a more-upscale chain of a steakhouse and generally has excellent ingredient quality and impeccable service, so that's what my ranking is mainly based on. When you first look at the menu, you'll see the standard steakhouse fare, sides, and salads, but then you'll see cheesesteak eggrolls and wonder what is going on. Order them, don't even give it a second thought (unless, of course, you are vegetarian/vegan). They are the most interesting and delicious thing on their menu, without a doubt. Sullivan's also has an excellent wine selection, so this is definitely a great spot to bring a date too. I've also attended corporate-sponsored meetings here and they have a great, quiet private dining room, so if you're in need of a meeting space, this is somewhere to consider. read more

I have dined often at Sullivan's over the years but haven't reviewed the restaurant even though I would have given them high marks. But my experience at Sullivans has been exclusively with the Bar Menu, which is generally quite good. But I had never been seated in their main dining room. But noting recently that Sullivan's was one of a handful of Tucson restaurants to earn Wine Spectator "Award of Excellence", I thought it was time to give it a try. Given the very favorable experience I've had with their dishes in the bar room, I expected the same in the main dining room. But that was not to be. It's a pricey menu, and so one expects a commensurate level of food quality. I have developed an appreciation for dry-aged steaks and they offered a couple of choices, so I ordered the strip steak. I took two bites and stopped eating. This steak was tough -- made you feel like you are chewing gum. This steak may be passable at an Outback, but when a steak has a $45 price tag, you should expect better. The steak was sent back and replaced with a halibut dish. I will admit that the lobster cous cous that came with the Halibut was delicous. But the halibut itself was overcooked and under-seasoned. My wife's filet, while suitably tender, was also lacking flavor. On the other hand, I must commend the restaurant staff for their professional handling of the evening. Our server was attentive and congenial. But especially noteworthy is the professional manner in which the manager(?) handled my tough steak problem. No questions were asked, and the replacement halibut order went in immediately. Also they provided us with a complimentary dessert, a very tasty bourbon-caramel bread pudding. I've experienced prime steaks from the butcher that have turned out tough. I don't fault the restaurant for that. It happens. But the mediocre quality of the 'correct' dishes left me disappointed and would warrant only two stars Yet their bar food is quite good, deserving four stars. So I split the difference with the three star rating. I will continue to dine at Sullivan's, but I will limit myself to the bar. read more

Sullivans did not disappoint on New Year's Eve. The service was great thank you, Hunter. We ordered the 22 ounce ribeye which was cooked to absolute perfection! The flavor was wonderful especially with the side of the sautéed mushrooms that we ordered which paired excellently. We also ordered the broiled salmon which was amazing! It literally melted in your mouth! For being New Year's Eve and a very busy evening the staff worked very efficiently. We had a wonderful time here. We sat in the bar area and enjoyed our conversation while listening to the musicians playing. Our server, Nathan was extremely attentive and personable while making sure we had everything we needed. The manager greeted us, and our drinks were prompt and well made. I had not been here before, usually go to another steakhouse in town. Meal wasn't horrible but I thought the food was just blah. We had oysters which were the smallest I had ever seen. It was someone comical. My husband and I were laughing that at least they served saltines, two! You can head to any Mexican seafood place in town and you get one than one package of saltines. Usually handfuls. lol. My steak was cooked perfectly but the amount of pepper I could barely taste the steak. The waitress was nice but felt the need to tell me salads were a $4 add on. I just have never had someone in a "higher" scale restaurant read prices. Just strange. The dessert key lime pie was boring. Crust was nice but barely any strawberry sauce. Celebrated anniversary and decided to splurge at a fancy place. I was disappointed with basics from a high-end steakhouse. Ordered the $52 New York Strip steak and it was cooked as ordered - medium rare. Sullivan's has their giant steak knives that has their name on the blade (they must be proud). The ones we were provided were extremely dull (I suspect all of their knives are old and don't get much attention) and I would compare them to trying to cut a steak with a carpenter's hammer that has a dull butter knife attached. How is anyone, let alone a small person, supposed to wield something like that? I struggled to cut the steak and I'm not a small person. It left me wondering if the $52 steak was that tough or was it the dull knife or both? My wife ordered a ceasar salad and was brought the short end of romain heads on a plate still in tact with a small amount of cheese sprinkled on top. She asked them to put the dressing on the side and omit the croutons. She had to use a dull dinner knife to cut the lettuce herself. She struggled with that also. For two glasses of wine, a cup of soup, side order of brussel sprouts, ceasar salad, two entrees - scallops and steak - the bill came to $160. Nothing special here and I wouldn't come back for more at that price. If I did, I would have to bring my own cutlery! read more

I hadn't been here in a long time but a friend suggested it for my birthday. I was able to make a same day reservation and was seated promptly on time. All staff members were wearing masks and polite. The food however was.....delicious! Shocking right? Usually when I spend a lot on a steak I'm disappointed but not this time. We visited on 3.12.22 and had the worse experience one could imagine. We were out celebrating an anniversary and were treated like trash upon arriving. Parties who arrived after us were seat first even though we had reservations. Once finally seated by the back next to the kitchen in an empty dining room the horrible service continued. We arrived on a Saturday night without a reservation and were told it would be over an hour to get a table in the dining room. There was a great little jazz band so we had drinks and a delicious meat and cheese platter in the bar. 80 minutes later (after inquiring about out table) we were led into a virtually empty dining room, I counted, 18 empty tables. Apparently they were short staffed as we were met by other than our waiter. When our harried server arrived we ordered a wedge, steak, and sides. The salad was great, the steak small, and the creamed spinach ice cold. We received our replacement spinach as we were finishing our meal. When we were ready to go it took a long time to get checked out, not out our servers fault as she was obviously being overworked. It was just kind of weird. A high end steakhouse ($$$$), an empty dining room, the lack of wait staff, a maitre d with what looked like food on his suit and shoes. Not impressed. Our group celebrated the holidays in a PDR. Our service was fast and efficient, however all 3 or 4 servers lacked any personality. They were very quiet and unengaged. My steak had no seasoning whatsoever. I shouldn't have to salt a $40 filet. We were offered no sauces at all for the steaks. My husband's filet was even more disappointing because he had tendons throughout his cut of meat. C'mon Sullivan's, you should be using center cuts, not ends. Since when are au gratin potatoes served with cubed potatoes? We got cubed potatoes in a heavy cream sauce. The flavor was good, but they were not the definition of "au gratin potatoes" The worst part of the evening was the dessert. The flourless chocolate torte was the worst I've had. The raspberries were so sour, they never should've made it to the plate. The mouse was thick and heavy, while others, were loose at wet. The presentation lacked any sort of professionalism. We spent $1700+ dollars for a mediocre dinner. How much do you honestly care about your Guests? I got a response from Sullivan's privately, apologizing for my experience and was asked to go to their website to write another review. Well, I did that and never heard another word. So we came here for a work event, and I have to say this was the worst customer service Ive had. We have a room booked in the back and the waitresses seemed so annoyed by everything we said.. my coworker had A BUG in her wine and when I told the waitress about it, she rolled her eyes and walked off, didn't even apologize. I went to Sullivan's for the first time for a group happy hour. The restaurant looks nice and classy. I won't review the food, as I was just there for drinks. When I ordered a beer the waitress insisted on opening a tab. I told her I would pay cash and was told that I couldn't purchase anything without handing over my credit card for a tab, even if I intended to pay cash. The practice seemed peculiar and I questioned it, and the server explained that they have a problem with walk-offs. As I was with a group I didn't want to make a scene so I complied. The place was very busy so service in general was spotty. When I was ready to leave I asked the server for my check. She came back and said that my card wouldn't run, could I give her the card again. I paid cash. When I got home I checked my account and found that they had run the card for the beer as It appeared on my account??? I expect that the charge will drop off. My experience certainly wasn't worth the $6.50 I paid for a single bottle of beer during "happy hour". Solution 1: I won't be back. Solution 2: Go back and have water. Typical high end steak house. shrimp appetizer with cheese melted (Shrimpcargo) was one of the best. I had scallops with bacon that were very good (a tad undercooked, but still good) one of my guest had chili crusted ribeye which looked awesome. Mac and cheese was a tad dry (could have had more "apparent" cheese sauce) all in all, very good meal..............not quite perfect. but Vladimir was. Let me start by saying that our waiter was nice. He would disappear for long periods of time but he always returned with a smile. The food was awful! The cheesesteak egg-rolls were bland. The Filet Mignon was dry and the King Crab legs were clearly previously frozen and over cooked. The only reason we didn't complain is because we had a gift card. We had reservations for a special celebratory dinner back in July. Sullivan's has an awkward mix of fine dining, casual, and corporate touches. The meal pacing was genteel, which I liked, though there were indications it was due to lack of staffing than a desire to give us ample time. Our server was gracious, though seemed wary of overstepping corporate boundaries of permissible casualness. I'm all for the austere formality of the rarity of fine dining, but this wasn't quite fine dining enough, so our eventual banter with the server felt stilted and disingenuous. I would have preferred, given the atmosphere, of someone who bowed and gently walked away, or the opposite, a "hey, ya'll, how we doin' tonight?" but this was somewhere in between. I didn't sense a pride in the restaurant from the server, but more of a wilted obedience. Corporate steakhouses are commonplace (not like L.G.s in Palm Springs, which cannot be matched), and there's a typical ambience one expects, but the standards fell below some other steakhouses. I had a much more impressive experience at the Denver airport believe it or not, at Elways. Here's a steakhouse that sticks to its high standard regardless of where it is. Airport? A challenge, sure, but we'll make it happen. And they did. Their servers stand behind their moniker and proudly represent Elways, and there's a confidence in their brand. And there's a formal yet friendly approach that works. And when the food comes out, one can see there's lots to be proud of. The confidence is there, and when the food comes out, it's proven. So now to the "meat" of my review, which is the food at Sullivan's -- and what's more importantly, the steak. Firstly, it was meager. I received a disappointingly thin ribeye that was overly peppered and salted, and fatty. Sure, it was listed at a 16 oz rib eye, but I wanted something better than what I get at Safeway. I was hoping it would fill me, but I finished it quickly and left the unedible fatty parts to the side. It was probably the most disappointing steak I've ever had in a steakhouse. Now, Flemings hasn't maintained their service quality lately, but I've never had a lame steak there before -- I mean, the product is still the star, as it should be. The sides were not memorable. I've had juicier, thicker mushrooms before, and the broccoli was the definition of dull, if not al dente taken up a notch. I did like that the server's crumber was active, again, a touch of formality, and we had a cleaned table for our rich and filling banana's foster. You see, I was hungry because the main failed to satisfy. We also got a cute photo that with a signed frame for our celebration, a nice, more corporate touch. Thanks, but no thanks. My girlfriend and I wanted to go have a nice dinner so we decided to go to Sullivan's Steakhouse. As we arrived, we were greeted and sat immediately. The server was very pleasant and attentive. Everything on the menu is a la carte, so we ordered 3 items. The lobster bisque, cream of spinach, and a New York Steak. The soup was descent , but left much to be desired. The cream of spinach was good. The steak was one of the worst steaks I have ever had at a steakhouse. It was cooked fine, but there was more fat than meat. I understand that there should be a strip of fat, but the marble on this particular steak wasn't good. I was very hungry, so I tried to eat what I could. I informed the server and she apologized and said she would inform the chef. She brought us a complimentary cheesecake for us to take home. We paid for the bill and left. When I arrived at home I was still hungry, so I decided to have the cheesecake. It wasn't good either and I ended up throwing that away as well. Steakhouses are beautiful places where the majority of your meal consists of delicious carb heavy sides, appetizers and wine. Sullivan's is no different. The jalapeño gnocchi is my favorite side. Spicy, creamy and a perfect accompaniment to a massive piece of meat. Also you cannot go wrong with the mac & cheese, mushrooms, and asparagus. If you feel like throwing some apps in, the crab cakes, calamari and for the fish fearers out there (i.e. my husband) the cheesesteak egg rolls are all amazing choices. The steak is great, however in my experience they don't always cook it to preference. Pretty much all the meat comes back medium rare. If you want anything more, you may have to be VERY specific with the waiter when ordering, and even then, no promises. The service is alright. You would think to get more from such a highly priced, fancy joint but usually the meal goes by very slowly. You end up waiting a while between courses when normally the flow should be a bit quicker. We have spent 3 hours + eating dinner which if we weren't slightly inebriated and having so much fun, would feel like quite a long time. But even with all the wine, once we set foot out the door and look at the time on our phones, reality sets in and we realize how much time was wasted sitting around, it is slightly upsetting. All in all the experience is good. The food is amazing and the staff is very friendly. There aren't a lot of options when it comes to steakhouses in Tucson, so obviously I recommend this one. read more

This was my 1st visit @ Sullivans. The atmosphere was great and didn't have to wait to be seated which was great for a Friday night. I didn't care for the wait to get our food. Our reservation was @ 7 and didn't get our food for about an hour, which I felt it was quite a wait fo not such a crowded place. I had the Cowboy steak w/ bourbon peppercorn sauce. It was amazingly delicious and cooked perfectly. The only downfall is the dishes come with nothing else unless you order a side, i.e. salad. For the price you pay you would think more would come with your plate. Will I return? I would really have to think twice. I want to pay for more than a piece of meat and sauce! read more
