My wife and I had dinner last night. We've been eating at the Wimington restaurant for many years and have always enjoyed the vibe and had top notch food, drinks and service. I searched Yelp out of curiosity and was shocked to see a rating of 3.3. For me this was always a 4.5-5. We had a sushi appetizer that we both loved. I had scallops and my wife had salmon since it was a Friday during lent. For dessert I was going to get a chocolate raspberry cake but the waiter tilted me to carrot cake. Wow! Amazing! After taking a family of 10 (6 adults & 4 grandchildren between 10-16) to Sullivan's Steakhouse last night I am only 50/50 with my review. Everyone - that is, - everyone but the guy paying - enjoyed their meals. My wife and I ordered the Australian Waygu steak and Lobster and included bottle of wine for 2 deal at $199. My wife cooks an excellent steak but I wanted to try Waygu and hearing the hierarchy of Waygu goes: Japan, Australia, USA I was expecting perfection. When it 1st came out it looked too rare. But again, not having Waygu before I just went with it figuring even a fair chef at steakhouse should know the proper temperature to cook this special cut of beef. What a mistake. The 1st piece I "tried" to cut into was like cutting into the bottom of my shoe. Those 1st half dozen bites I had to spit out they were so tough. The 2nd piece of the pre-sliced Waygu was still a very tough slice and very chewy. I asked my son (44) to try it and he took a piece from to other end. He could taste the difference from a ribeye or porterhouse but again, it was tough and not as expected from such a "so called" prized piece of beef. I went back and forth with myself about complaining. But, with the grandkids there, and my son giving his lukewarm evaluation, I just decided to keep my mouth shut. Maybe it was a mistake. But we will just spend our money elsewhere (like The House of William and Merry where we always have a fantastic dining experience) I will add our service was excellent. Came here for an impromptu date night on a Wednesday night. Were in the mood for a fancy steakhouse and we've been to other Sullivan's locations so we knew this was a good chain...except it wasn't that great. The waitress was amazing! Very friendly, nice, and checked on us a good amount. The food on the hand...subpar at best. The oysters were ok, the mashed potatoes were pretty bad, the crab fried rice? I cant even wrap my head around how mediocre that was. It was literally fried rice with plain unseasoned crab meat on top. Not even mixed in. The steaks were dry and had no flavor. Omg, freezing in the bar, 66°, they cant turn it up. Thermostat is locked. My side salad, filet, lobster potato were good. His chicken sandwich had an odd taste, I thought so too. They exchanged it for a burger, but did not come out with lettuce, raw onion like he wanted. Ordered it with bacon,$6. But no bacon was on it. Very odd. And it was under cooked from medium. The big thing is, no management in bar area, Omg, the 20 something staff are so loud and so immature. I wanted to love this meal but it was a bad experience. Service was 5 stars we celebrated our son's birthday we enjoy Sullivans however yesterday was not a great experience. First of all the main menu on the very bottom was listed pre fixe with nothing else listed, no meals I asked the server she left and came back with the pre fixe menus ?? We got there at around 6:15 there were 2 people in the bar area and one couple in the dining room. My son and I ordered from pre fixe I had the filet mignon and my son had the strip steak both ordered medium. Mine was well done and had the bernaise sauce missing, the guy who brought us the food gave me a attitude expression when I requested the sauce. I said it's on the menu included with the dish.We had waited over 1/2 hour for the initial food and I sent my filet back for another and it was more than 15 min before I received it. The quality of the filet was subpar, I expected a tender filet for 50 dollars it was tough and chewy, the stip steak was ok my husband had the steak burger. The presentation of the dishes were not of a fine dining restaurant no garnish just meat and mashed potatoes that were warm. it was very disappointing for over 200.00 including 4 drinks. I wanted to talk to the manager but I didn't bc it was my son's birthday. It was so slow there was no reason for the food not to be excellent and the long wait. The bread was great and our server was great. The chef needs to take more pride in the food and the presentation which was really lacking and the young man who brought the food to the table needs a personality and manners. I have been to Sullivan's several times for happy hour and to dine. It's in an unassuming building. The bar area isn't very big, but the drinks are good and the bar menu is tasty. The meals in the dining are very good. I have never had bad service. The creme brulee is delicious. read more

We went here for happy hour and had a nice hightop in the corner. Our server walked over immediately with some water and provided some great recommendations. My wife had the blueberry lemon drop martini and said it was excellent. We shared the shaved prime rib sliders, the sriracha shrimp lettuce cups and the cheesesteak eggrolls. They were all amazing. The sweet chili sauce and honey mustard for the eggrolls was new to us but so good we asked for more sauce. The sweet and spicy chili glaze was also great on the lettuce cups. The sliders come with 3 and fries. The prices were great too. Multiple people checked on us even though our server took great care of us. The staff is so friendly. We ordered a French Dip sandwich at lunch. We waited 30 minutes for it to come out. What came out, I think, was the rib sliders. No sauce, no flavor,very tough!! I mentioned to the server, which was not our original server that we ordered the French Dip sandwich , she said oh you need au jus... it didn't help. It was horrible, it wasn't what we ordered. We went to Sullivan's on Friday 7/31 @ 5:30. It wasn't for any other reason than we had received gift cards. We ordered off the fixed price menu. Our waitress was wonderful. We both ordered the bisque as a starter. It was SO SPICY! Way too much Pepper in it!! My husband had to eat it by dipping the bread in & not spooning it into his mouth to dull the spice level. He got the filet. He said it was delicious but the bordelaise sauce was too thick. Almost a gelatin. Maybe because it was served on the side in a small vessel, or not heated enough? I ordered the bricked chicken. MY BAD, should've also gotten steak. First, I don't know what kind of chicken has a leg as big as my thumb?! Quail, pigeon...??? There was NO breast. Just 2 thighs (with thumb size appendages attached). It was SO DRY & completely overcooked. It was hard to swallow! I also had the spinach as my side. It was just that. Wilted spinach. No seasoning at all. No butter, garlic or even salt (I assume they had no pepper left after the bisque?)! The new general manager walked up to us to ask how things were. She had a very wrinkled blouse on & didn't look professional at all. We said fine because I just wanted to leave. When we left, we both commented on how empty the place was on a Friday night @ 6:30. Disappointed with steaks but pleased with the Seafoods. Quite ironic because it's a steakhouse and we didn't understand why the steak was a flop but the seafoods rocked. Service was excellent. The offering was lunch menu but we had emailed stressing that we r ordering from the dinner menu. They said totally fine. I'm not sure why they didn't deliver good steaks. Came here to celebrate my stepmom's birthday. Had a really good time. Had a Southpaw to start and was pleasantly surprised by how balanced it was. Our server was Malik and they were simply amazing. Funny, helpful, and professional. They were able to recommend menu items for my stepmom who can be a tad bit fussy about food. Service was good. It was a Saturday night and even though it was busy it was still not too loud. We were able to talk without screaming. Everything was tasty. Dessert was good. All my years living in Delaware and it took me coming back home to Philly to finally get to Sullivans in Wilmington. I am not a big frequenter of steakhouses because I don't eat much steak but I was invited to a happy hour at their bar where the food options looked pretty damn good. The ambience and decor here are is very nice. The bar is spacious with plenty of seating and moody lighting. The staff so friendly and attentive. I started with a Hibiscus Cosmopolitan that I found delightful. For my meal I had the crab cakes with a side of caesar salad. Both were good. Someone in my group shared their fries with me but I didn't like them. They weren't crispy or flavorful. The only other negative is it was not happy hour after all on a Friday night so two cosmos and the crab cakes were full price just so you know. read more

This is an update to a previous 1-star review: Wow - what a turnaround. We'd been to Sullivans multiple times but our experience 2 years ago was so miserable that we pledged to never be back. Decided to give them one more "special occasion" shot and are delighted that we did. Our server, Tom, was a full-on professional waiter of the sort you seldom see these days-- pleasant, knowledgeable and eager to see that his patrons had a quality experience. When we arrived our table had been preset with rose petals and a birthday card. Our recommended drinks were well prepared and very tasty. We ordered the Beef Wellington bits as an appetizer (very nice). For our entrees, Cathy ordered the scallops. Well prepared, nicely seared and succulent. That came with an asparagus risotto; flavorful- maybe a *little* gummy (minor complaint). I had the Porterhouse - outstanding - perfectly cooked, seasoned, and delightfully tasty and tender. I had no sauce at all and was glad to allow the terrific steak to stand out on its own. A complimentary flute of Champagne along with a birthday chocolate cake rounded out our top notch evening. We called the manager, Marissa, over; not to complain, but to complement her and her staff for an outstanding experience. Turns out she came on board two years ago, probably soon after our previous dreadful experience, and probably there to turn the place around. Well, she certainly accomplished that. Couldn't say enough rotten (but true) things last time; can't say enough complimentary (and also true) things this time. Thank you so much, Tom, Marissa, and entire crew. My family was there on Mother's Day (5/10/26), to celebrate my 90year old mother. We waited over 3 hrs for our food, and we finally left without being served. The table next to us, arrived 1 1/2 hours after us, and was served before us. We were very disappointed, as we wanted to celebrate our mother, and we heard the food was delicious. Six of us went to lunch to celebrate 2 of our birthdays on a Tuesday, 12/30/25. It was horrible. Drinks took forever to come. This happened on both rounds. When I went to the bathroom, I saw our waiter making a drink for our table. Bartender??? We considered ordering our second when the first finally came! The food was mediocre at best and inedible at worst. Mashed potatoes were warm, definitely should have been hotter. Two of our parties ordered the Ceasar salad with chicken. The chicken was not edible. It was overcooked and dry. It may have been leftover chicken from the day before. One in our party spoke up and the waiter said he would get her another one. The second one said she would eat around the chicken as she didn't want to wait for it to come back out. Our waiter eventually brought out fresh chicken breasts for both parties. Of course, by then our party was ready for boxes. They were out of carrot cake (one of the things we were looking forward to)! The service was slow even though there were only 3 tables at any given time and ours the biggest with only 6. When the bill was brought, the waiter did not take off the salads. After we spoke up, he took off 1 of the salads but should have taken off both. The atmosphere was even bad. There was music on and it was too loud. Also, it was cold and we were not near a door. Sullivan's used to be a place known for being upscale, pricey yet offering premier dining. Well, it's still pricey, but it has fallen greatly. We went to Sullivan's restaurant on 12/21/2025 to celebrate birthdays, and I was really excited, but all that was dispelled from the door. Let's start with the "Proper Attire Required" sign on the entrance door. NOT... I saw people wearing sweats, hoodies, etc. which incidently, is a violation of their own definition of proper attire on their website. Then there was the atmosphere, Sullivans boast of dimmed atomspheric lighting again, NOT. We were in the back room and the lights where brighter than in my home. The food: the appetizers were good we had the "Spicey Shrimp Eggrolls, Jumbo Lump Crab Cake, Charbroiled Oysters, and the Angry Shrimp." All was decent except for the Charbroiled Oysters they were cold and not very chard. Things went down hill from there. For dinner, there was a Dry-Aged Tomahawk Ribeye ordered, Herb Brick Chicken with Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Sliced Cherry Peppers, Balsamic Cippolini Onions, Lobster Thermidor: Two North Atlantic Cold Water Lobster Tails, Butter, Cream, Mushrooms, Tarragon, Topped with Breadcrumbs & Parmesan, and the Pan-Seared Chilean Sea Bass "Hong Kong Style". Our sides were Crab Fried Rice w/Lump Crab, Scallions, Carrots, Oyster Sauce, Asparagus Risotto w/Fresh Asparagus, Lemon Cream, Grana Padano Brussels Sprouts Applewood Smoked Bacon, Caramelized Onions and Lobster Three Cheese Mac (with Lobster) First after waiting over an hour between apetizers and our entrees (and NO there was no crowd)our food came out piece meal. we got the sides first, then the entrees. The steak was cold, the chicken was dry, and lobster was over cooked. The Sea Bass was just ok, but the sides were a mess. The lobster mac and cheese at best sat under the warming light to long or/and it was over cooked. The Asparagus Risotto had no asparagus mixed in, the crab fried rice was cold with lumps of crab just drop on it, and the brussel sprouts were shaved (not whole or sliced in half per the wait staff) with no bacon. Trust me I could go on and on, but I am sure you get the point. Also, we were never asked if anyone in our party had allergies. We asked for a manager and got a cook, which leads me to the service. The service started out ok but after intorductions it just went down from there. We opted for spring and seltzer water, instead of opening 1 to 2 bottles each 4 to 6 bottles were open and we were expected to pay for all opened bottles. We had a 2 person wait staff who went ghost on us for over an hour and never checked back. We were there for over 3 hours and once our order was placed we saw them a total of 2 times as other servers brought out our food. We received no table clearing service, we were never offered a desert menu, etc. Just 2nd rate table service. To sum things all up. I ended up getting sick from the food. Don't waste your money you can get better food and service from a chain steak house. I wish I could give them ZERO stars. We went to Sullivan's for the first time. Nice decor. I learned that the place is named after an 1800's Bostonian boxing superstar. You'll definitely recognize the famous shirtless, bare knuckled pic on the wall. Alyssa was our server. Her service was prompt, friendly and thorough. We ordered the deviled eggs with caviar, tuna steak entrée, scallop entrée, and crab fried rice. For dessert, we ordered cheesecake and Keylime pie. I've dined at the Sullivans in KOP before but this was my first time at the Wilmington location. My experience at the KOP location was top tier, so I was expecting nothing less from Wilmington. When I say my expectations were surpassed I mean it. The restaurant was beautifully decorated because it was valentines day. They had balloons everywhere with rose petals as well. The mood was definitely on point. We were able to be seated in a booth per our request. Our waitress Rachel was an ANGEL. She literally waited on us hand and foot. She made us feel prioritized. We started with 3 apps: calamari, charbroiled oysters, and shrimp eggrolls. Im not usually into calamari but because my husband loves them we ordered it. Let me tell you, i'd order their calamari for myself next time. It was fried just right and the sauce that comes with it was so good. The oysters were kinda pricey for the amount you get (4) but they were good and so were the egg rolls. For our main courses, I got the lamb chops and my husband got some chicken. He was impressed by the portions and said the chicken was great. I already knew I would love my lamb chops because I had them before at the KOP location. I am literally obsessed with the sauce they marinate the lamb in. For sides we had crab fried rice, spinach, and the sweet potatoe cassarole. Omg the sweet potatoe cassarole is literally the best side on the menu. I wish I couldve gotten pics of all the food, but I was starving and ready to dig in lol All and all i'll definitely be returning to this location more often! I want to thank the owner and staff for an excellent experience during my anniversary. The waiter was a master at his craft, never missing a beat to make our experience exceptional. He set the scene with rose petals and thoughtful messages, which made it romantic. I can't say enough about the food. It is well seasoned and cooked to perfection with an inviting presentation. A standout favorite for me was the oyster Rockefeller, which were heightened with the addition of savory bits of ham and melted cheese. We are the most low key family ever when it comes to dining, especially when it comes to reviews. Servers were very friendly until the end when they begged for tips/reviews like New York street vendors. The people who asked for these did not even serve us all night. Reservation was late, food was slow, and they brought out the wrong steaks. If it wasn't for the friendly servers at first, this rating would be even lower. We try to be nice but tonight was to the point where it was unacceptable. Not worth the prices. We hope it improves and I think everyone was well-hearted just not very professional. Had reservations for a party of at least 15. I arrived about 20 mins early and waited at the bar until our section was ready. Staff was friendly, funny, and engaging with our entire party. Idk who the manager was that evening but he was out serving the table and made sure everyone was taken care of. Although we were a big party, he made sure that each of us were comfortable, had what we wanted and that everything was perfect to our standing. He was humorous and very attentive. Now for the food. This may have been the only time our section was quite. Not one word. Everyone who ordered steak commented on how juicy and flavorful it was. I made reservations to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday at Sullivan's. We were met by the hostess who said "Happy Birthday" to my hubby and then was taken to our table for two, covered in rose petals and a card wishing my husband a Happy Birthday. Tyler was our server and he was attentive, took a picture of us as a memory and made sure to take care of us. The food was delicious. This place is unnecessarily expensive, the quality of the food is average, the service is great, I ordered the priciest steak on the menu ( the tomahawk steak ) and it was a dud, a doa, it had nothing screaming great. The sides were bought separately $11 a pop, great marketing but if you are charging that much for a side, that side has to have the quality to be a stand alone item, just like a great lobster Mac &Cheese, something tasty and satisfying just by itself. The food was not prepared with pride. My partner and I spent almost $300 and we walked away with a sense of failure to identify a great steakhouse.
