I ordered three items for take out so I can't really speak on the service. My review is only on the food. Grape leaves - the leaves had some type of snot-like slimy substance on them and were filled with unflavored mush. Super gross and not fresh at all. Gyro - Meat was completely dried out and the other ingredients were not fresh. Just slapped together. Baklava - A bunch of phyllo dough and a sad, thin layer of nut mixture. My wife and I just ate here for the first time. I was looking forward to some grilled lamb and ordered the GYROS entree. The meat was almost inedible. Based on appearance and flavor It was impossible to tell what kind of meat it was: lamb, beef, something else? It was almost black, overcooked, and without flavor. The hummus and salad were ok. I did not eat anything else but my wife had the falafel sandwich and said the falafel had no flavor. STAY AWAY! The filthy, sticky floor should have been a dead giveaway that we should not have set foot in this sorry excuse for a restaurant. Alas, hungry, we looked over the menu hoping for decent takeout and ordered lamb skewers, gyros, baba ganoush and grape leaves from perhaps the most unfriendly hostess/waitress we have ever experienced. The waitress's demeanor exuded an unmistakable air of cultural prejudice and I feel with certainty that had we fit her mold we would have been treated at least neutrally. Sadly, she was appallingly dismissive and when our food came she basically threw it at us. We left for home unnerved but still hoping for decent food and upon opening the bag we found cold pita bread in its manufacturers packaging (basically like someone throwing in the last three slices of Wonder Bread still in the plastic bag), sloppy and oily baba ganoush, a gyro that looked as though it had been sitting in a hot car all day and lamb skewers that were unmistakably beef. As a lamb eater, one can tell the difference between lamb and beef. The muscle makeup, the fat composition, the color, the flavor and the overall texture are distinctly different from beef. We called the restaurant to get the order corrected, drove back to the place and instead of them making it right the cook gave a patronizing tour of the kitchen and explained how the only red meat in their fridge that isn't ground is apparently lamb but really really tough lamb.... We still questioned this and were told that we could drive to Denver and have a meat expert dissect it and put it under a microscope to prove it is lamb not beef. Frankly there is little more to be said about how appalling this experience, food and "restaurant" are. Save yourself a lot of trouble and eat at Jimmy John's next door. read more

I hate to leave a bad review on a family owned restaurant but our experience today was absolutely horrible. I came in with a friend at 11 when the place opens, the kid at the counter had a pizza out and we seemed to inconvenience him with wanting to eat lunch. We were forced to order at the counter rather than at the table which was the first weird sign, we go take a seat outside after we order. The food finally shows up and it's all in Styrofoam containers even though we're sitting in the restaurant, we ask the kid for plates and he looks at us like we're space aliens, he comes back with more Styrofoam boxes! The Shawarma sandwich I got definitely not fresh extremely wet. The lamb kabob was dry as a bone and very overcooked and the pita had been made days before because it tasted like cardboard. The baba ghanouj didn't have the right flavor at all; I don't even know what that was. I'm sorry but you guys have to get a handle on service and also food quality because this is just not acceptable. read more

I can't say whether this is authentic, but it's good. The baba ghanoush and hummus are excellent. I tend to favor the Greek or fatoush salad with either gyros or shawarma meat. Ask them to go lightly on the dressing on the fatoush or it will come drowned on occasion. The sandwiches are ok too. Be sure to ask for tzatziki; they don't just bring it. My only ever disappointment is the selection of "Lunch Specials", most of which are just meat and rice. Nothing wrong with that per se, but I want vegetables! I've been searching for a good Middle Eastern grill place ever since I relocated out of SE Denver a year ago. I miss Jerusalem, and anything in the 2-block area SE of Colorado and Evans. Roving around this weekend, I stumbled across Sultan Grill (which narrowly beat Royal Thai next door for my choice of where to eat). The inside decor isn't great, but at least you get a feeling of Middle Eastern decor...er, on one wall anyways. 3 friendly Middle Eastern women with head coverings (but not face coverings) bustle around delivering entrees to both dine-in and take-out customers. Middle East-tinged music sometimes pours out of the sound system, but not always; and it's certainly not energetic and frenetic like at Jerusalem. They do, however, cater to the person who sees 12 yummy choices on a menu and suffers brainlock; or for those who like to sample a lot -- just like at Jerusalem. I ordered the King Combo, which is a combo of meat and vegetarian entrees. The vegetarian entrees on my take-out order, and rice, took up the entire to-go container. The hummus and baba ghannouj were both very creamy in texture, the hummus had a bit more body to it. Very tasty though. The rolled grape leaf was small but nice, the falafel was excellent, and their tabbouleh had less overpowering onion and parsley in it than Jerusalem's -- it was actually very nicely balanced. Kudos to them! 2 pieces of grilled chicken, 2 of grilled "sausage stuff" (I think it's kafta?) and a long strip of grilled beef awaited me in another carton; all very tasty.. 2 *large* pita breads (guessing about 10" around) came with the order. I also got the cheese sambusek, kind of like deep fried wontons with feta cheese and egg in it, came with 5 pieces; and of course, had to try the baklava. It's flaky enough, but I was given a small piece -- disappointing (and no syrupy stuff on top like...you know...that other place I mentioned). I ate half of this feast and have the other half waiting in my fridge. What else...oh, their dessert selection is a lot smaller than Jerusalem's. No sacredly yummy kulage. No graybah. Not much besides baklava, nammoura and kunafeh -- and they were out of the last 2 when I was there. For a strip mall, it's pretty damn tasty -- and I will say there were people pouring in about 7pm, and the place was already 2/3 full, so they clearly have fans. Give em a shot if you find yourself in Arvada. Just discovered: on their takeout menu, they have coupons for 10% off for takeout orders (dang, wish I'd seen that tonight). A nice gesture. read more

One of my more favorite places to eat in the Arvada area. I really enjoy the lamb kabob, and their falafel, hummus, pita, and baklava are all excellent. The chicken shawarma and gyros selections are also pretty good, and anyone I've taken here hasn't been disappointed with their choices. Also, they do a decent lunch special, and their entrée combo plates are good for anyone who's hungry and unsure of what to get. Not that big on the salad they serve right off the bat with most entrées - I'd prefer something more Mediterranean/Eastern like Fatouch or Tabouleh as opposed to a somewhat bland house salad - but the dressing is delicious. In order to get my Mediterranean fix I decided to try Sultran Grill. The restaurant is nothing fancy but the food is moderately priced for some dishes and quite expensive for other basic dishes. Dishes ordered included the chicken shawarma, gyro and the Kafta kabob all as combo meals for $7.25. In addition to our meals me all shared a sampler plate as an appetizers with hummus, garlic dip, baba ghanouj, green beans, one grape leaf, one falafal and a pita. I really enjoyed my chicken shawarma up until I got down to the last quarter of my wrap where much of the oil resided, leaving me unable to finish the sandwich. Overall, the service was very nice, and food was tasty but sometimes not the healthiest. I would definitely come back for the sampler plate, however it's one of the plates that is priced more than I would like it to be, which also gives good reason to share among friends. read more

I've ordered takeout from this place twice. It's very close to home, so it's convenient to swing by on the way home from work or wherever. The first time, I placed my order by phone. When I arrived to pick it up,I paid by credit card. After I'd paid, they told me they had prepared the wrong dish for me by mistake, so it was going to be a few minutes while they made the new order. Irritating, since I'd placed my order by phone and brought my carseat-clad baby along with me. Nothing more fun than entertaining a baby in a carseat, let me tell ya! Anyway, the food that time was okay. I'd ordered the King Platter, which is a sampler of a bunch of dishes. Everything was ok, but nothing stood out as being exceptional. The 2nd time I ordered takeout was a few weeks ago, and that will be the last time. I ordered us 2 gyros sandwiches and spinach sambusek. Now, the menu describes the sambusek as "deep fried," which they clearly were not. They were burned on one side like they'd been heated up on the flattop for too long. The gyros sandwiches tasted good, but within 30 minutes of eating it my stomach was hurting, and I felt nauseous for the rest of the night.. I thought it was just me, but then my husband started complaining a few hours after I did. I really wanted to support this restaurant as it's family-owned and close to home, but next time we'll head to Ali Baba! read more

On my constant search for a decent place to eat that serves "Greek" food up North, I found this place on accident. I got a coupon in the mail. I like the location and the place itself was clean and nicely decorated. I assume the people that took your order and cooked it were also the owners. They were professional, courteous, pleasant and very welcoming. For lunch one day, my teenage son and I tried the Appetizer Sampler Plate for $10.95. A sample of hummus, garlic dip, baba ghanouj, Syrian green bean salad, grape leaf, falafel, spinach sambuse, and pita. We enjoyed that very much! Then we both ordered the gyro sandwich combo. I've had better gyros elsewhere, but it was good. If you like Tzatziki sauce, like I do, make sure you ask for an extra order of it. I don't think I'd go there for dinner, since those entrees are a bit on the high side for my budget. But I'd go back for lunch anytime. Oh, we took our Baklava home for dessert. We made our most recent visit to Sultan Grill on a Saturday night. Before the Broncos/Patriots AFC championship game. You know, 24 hours before Bill and Tom and Gronk went home with their under-inflated footballs to watch the Super Bowl in their home theaters. Or more likely their mansion theaters. The young woman who waited on us was very pleasant and wore a hijab. And a Bronco tee-shirt. As the game turned out, I think she brought us excellent karma. Or am I mixing my world religions? No matter, it was a very pleasant assimilation of cultures - the kind we all wish there was more of. And, she brought us excellent food. We had the lamb shank and meat combo (lamb, chicken and kafta kabobs). Other options include shawarmas, curries, barg, and of course, a number of vegetarian options - falafel, moussaka, hummus and baba ghanouj. Dinners come with a salad, rice, and hummus with pita. Other Yelpers have commented accurately that the hummus is delicious. Next time I think I'm going to try the Bamya (Syrian okra cooked with lamb meat, tomato sauce, pomegranate sauce, fresh cilantro, garlic, and spices) - sounds pretty awesome, doesn't it? The value at Sultan Grill is good - dinners are mainly in the $12 to $15 range and portions are generous. And be sure to top your meal off with a Turkish coffee. Just be sure you don't drink down too far and get a mouthful of sludge. Atmosphere at Sultan Grill is OK but a little spartan in the big picture. If you want good Middle Eastern food and great atmosphere, go to Ali Baba in Golden - the "upper room" there is pretty much unrivaled in terms of atmosphere. Nonetheless, Sultan Grill brings good Middle Eastern food and good value served by nice people to Arvada, and that's nothing to sneeze at. My only complaint is the bowls of ketchup packets at each table - I really would like a little more Middle Eastern atmosphere than the Damascus Burger King. But ketchup or no ketchup, I'll be back to Sultan Grill. In fact, maybe next Saturday night before the Super Bowl. It worked last week, and a little extra karma against Cam and the boys couldn't be a bad thing. read more

The food is good but this is at least my second less than optimal experience with the waitress, who has an unpleasant air about her. First she corrects my pronunciation of "gyro" as if I were an idiot. There's a way to say things in a helpful manner and there's a way to be condescending - she chooses the latter. This latest visit she seems annoyed by small talk and then makes you meet her at the register to pay the bill so she doesn't have to walk the check back and forth to you.
