Missing parts of my order and they refused to refund our reliever. Such a shame because of the decent quality

I ate here twice! The second time was a disaster! My daughter and I walked in for lunch. I ordered drinks, I asked for a glass of red wine. When the glass came out I thought something looked odd. I picked up the glass and noticed that there were crumbs in the wine and the glass had lipstick marks from someone else. I called it to the waitress' attention and she took the glass back. I reordered white, however watched, unbeknownst to her pour the wine that I just returned with a dirty glass back into the bottle. Gross! Next, she brought out the white wine to me, in the same dirty glass with the same lipstick marks. The only difference is I could tell she rinsed it and tried to wipe away the lipstick, which only now smudged it. I was grossed out and felt sick. Never, eat here ever. read more

Damn! This was the best sushi delivery that I have experienced while living in Brooklyn. We ordered the agedashi tofu and various special rolls. So fresh, delicious, and no mushyness from the delivery. No, seriously. I can't remember better rolls that were **delivered** (Seamless) to my apartment. Very clean, very reasonable price wise, fish tasted fresh, server was accommodating, they deliver. Huge portions for the salad. The shumai soup was interesting and tasty and filled with veggies. Rolls were average to large size. The only drawback is if you're looking for innovative and interesting rolls this may not be the place for you. Also only one option for hot sake. But all in all if you want good quality classic sushi for a good price this is a good spot. We were actually the only ones in there on a Wednesday night but the phone rang a lot- they do grub hub etc so a great take out sushi option! read more

Updated review: Ate in the restaurant recently for lunch. The staff is super friendly, but the sushi was not good. The sashimi especially was flavorless, very cold, and a little fishy tasting. The rolls weren't much better. Disappointing! Old 4 star review: I mostly order from Sumi, although it does look like they have a nice backyard. Their sushi is excellent, super fresh. I'm very picky with sashimi and theirs is great especially for the price. I'm not a fan of their cooked food, however, definitely stick with the sushi. read more

That is insanely fast, and much appreciated since I was hangry. The peanut avocado rolls are tasty, and have multiple peanuts in it. I'm used to receiving one peanut per roll. The shiitake mushroom roll was great, the mushrooms were fresh and tasty. For dessert, I got green tea mochi. Mochi is glutinous rice, which is gluten-free, filled with tasty ice cream. Yum. Sumi has been my go-to sushi delivery for as long as I've lived in the area- which is going on 6 years. It was always slightly more expensive than other area places, but worth it because of the quality. I don't know what happened- but unfortunately this is no longer the case, and the change occurred within the last 3-4 months. The last several times that I've ordered from Sumi, I've noticed a steady decline in the overall quality of the food, but my most recent experience was by far the worst. My favorite roll has always been the green hornet roll...when it arrived this time, I opened it and noticed giant black spots several pieces of the roll. upon further investigation, I realized that the spots were only in the tempura shrimp of the roll, in the same spot....ya'll, it was the shrimp's digestive track. Apparently, it wasnt cleaned properly before being cooked. This was enough to turn me off from shrimp for a while. Further - my Kani salad seemed old and watery, the mushroom soup tasted like old dishwater, and the Shumai was still partially frozen. Again- I have been ordering from here exclusively for 6 years...I have always raved about Sumi and encouraged my friends to check it out... Not going to happen again. read more

Bad service. I placed an order online for some rolls and a bento box and asked for fried rice, I called to get an actual ETA on its arrival, they told me 40 minutes then said "by the way, you can't have fried rice, you have to order it as a side." I asked if there could be an up charge, they said no. I asked if they started making the food, he said yes. PROBLEM, why wouldn't you call me so we can address this BEFORE you start making the food? Why're you being so rude? As a result, I cancelled the ENTIRE $50 order. Seamless called me and tried to only give me what I paid for the bento box... I love this place. When I first saw another sushi spot was opening in the neighborhood, I was wary. But all of my experiences here (so far once or twice a week) have been entirely pleasant. Nicest people, fast service, fresh fish, and it's also easy to have a very reasonably priced meal. Very accessible and totally hits the spot. This is probably one of my favorite sushi places ever!! The price is pretty reasonable and their delivery is always so fast. Once you walk in, you're going to be greeted with smiling staffs and amazing interior design. The food also comes pretty fast and the plating is so pretty !!! And because we came with a big group, I didn't expect to be seated quickly but they were able to make quick arrangements too. What's more surprising was how fast we were being served despite having a big party who inhale food. Lol. We also got lucky because the boss himself treated us to a chef special dish!!! This review is for delivery only. This is a great spot for Japanese delivery. I am a vegetarian and they have tons of options for me, delivered quick and packaged well. Their miso soup is stellar, I know this is hard to mess up but it is just the right balance of savory and salty with a robust well rounded flavor. Have had their yaki udon noodles which are DELICIOUS. The steamed broccoli side was plain, but cooked to perfection and great to order to add into a soup or noodles dish. Super flavorful and tender veggie dumplings. Hubs liked his fried rice and chicken teriyaki as well. This is my go-to for order-in Asian, hope to try dining in as well! read more

My experience and go to choices are basically neighbors and there is no shortage of sushi choices in the area. Geido, which is closer to me, offers a bright, busy room full of talky people, Basquiat style graffitti adorns the wall. It can feel like Urban Outfitters became Ikea and in the cafe, they decided to sell Sushi, rather than Swedish Meatballs. Sumi, on the otherhnd, is down the block, is smaller, darker, quieter. ie. you'll grab a table in no time. I've found Sumi's food to be consistently great and easily accessible. I ordered the Sashimi Don for delivery and it was absolutely perfect. The fish tasted fresh and delicious, the rice was nice and hot and the miso soup was divine. And the delivery was very quick! I highly recommend this place and can't wait to order from them again. read more

Sushi dry and mediocre. Just what u want in raw fish. The cooked foods are much better here. Stick to this part of the menu.

Totally average. Not bad on quantity if that's your thing, don't expect a standout in terms of quality or flavor. We were bored of the limited menu at the excellent and authentic Silver Rice, which has become our go-to Japanese take-out. So we took to Sumi for the sake of variety. Ordered the Sumi Sashimi special, thinking it would be the best of what the chef could muster on a given day. It had a few extra pieces on top of the standard sashimi, but none of the fish was particularly flavorful nor worth mentioning texturally. The mushroom soup was good. Very mushroomy, with shiitake, shimeji, and button mushrooms. Vegetable gyoza was greasy. Seaweed salad ho-hum. Vegetable roll turned out to be a sweet potato roll, which was another item on the menu we specifically chose not to order. Why have two distinct items to begin with? This is now my go-to for sushi delivery. This may look like your average sushi joint on the surface, but amazing quality and fast delivery set these guys apart from the pack. My first time ordering the usual spicy tuna, salmon avocado, and yellowtail scallion rolls, I expected to chow down while finishing up some work. After my first bite, I was immediately transported away from everything and my work was abruptly halted so I could savor every delicious bite. The spicy mayo was not used to hide questionable tuna; but to complement fresh tuna. The avocado wasn't too soft, and didn't overwhelm the salmon. The yellowtail scallion was perfectly balanced.
