I don't live in the area, but when I'm back in Oregon I plan on making a trip to Coos Bay to eat here. I just happened upon it 2 years ago when my extended family was camping on the coast. Hmm...Interesting. For a place that is Asian fusion (Chinese, Korean, Japanese food), the sushi is ok considering what is available in the area. Ordered spicy tuna roll, rainbow roll, and maguro. The sushi rice is bland and super dry, and for some irritating reason, the chef thought it necessary to sprinkle our spicy tuna rolls with that ichimi seasoning (the chili powder that is usually sprinkled on udon soup)..what??? Why, I don't know. The staff is friendly though, and maybe give their other foods a try? read more

One of my favorite places in the area!! Friendly staff, good customer service, great food! This place has been our spot to go to for 4 years, when we order takeout its quick! Love the sushi here, teriyaki rice bowl, salmon dinner bowl are all my favorites here. Give this place a try!! read more

Great food, good staff, low wait time, and fantastic atmosphere! I highly recommend the chef noodle special, the homemade pot stickers, and the egg roll. It's a little spendy, but you definitely get your money worth in portion size! The only problem is it's quite busy and in such a small building there's often nowhere to sit. read more

This is hands down my favorite restaurant!! The people are great, and the food is better!! My mother and I have been eating her once a week for the past 10 years!!! If you get the chance, try their tempura veggies, they are great with their home sauce they give. We go their for the sushi mostly, but we haven't tried anything that we didn't like!! The food was ok, but the service is horrible! The server had no idea what was on the menu and refused to ask the chef my concerns, then after explaining I have a food allergy still refused to ask the chef, then when the food comes there is my allergy staring me in the face! I had asked to not let it touch my plate, my husband also told her of my food allergy and to leave it off the plate and there it was. She took my plate back, came back a short time later to which I am sure she just pulled the allergy off and brought back the food, and that was the last time we saw her til ten minutes after we were done. And if it was busy I would not have mind at all but there were only three other tables and another server. I will not be going back any time in the future!! read more

Not sure how this place had such high ratings. I ordered sushi and my wife ordered sweet and sour chicken. Both servings were extremely skimpy and fairly expensive. I would have been ok with with this if the sweet and sour chicken was delicious, but it was not. The fried rice was also poorly made. My sushi (the salmon roll) was good, but looked like they were trying to save big time on the rice. This place definitely wouldn't be my first choice in the future. read more

Came here after the first Friday wine walk. It was my second time and was just as good! We had excellent service from a friendly no nonsense waiter. I had the Alaskan roll with a cup of miso and it was just right. The combos have a lot of food and often you can take some home with you. They have a great selection of sake too! read more

My 12-year-old son and I eat at Sumin's as often as possible (once a week if we can) and we have always enjoyed our meal. He always orders sushi and/or sashimi. We spent several years on a sailboat and were used to having fresh fish, and Sumin's has never disappointed us. Their sushi and sashimi platters are very reasonably price and delicious. They have all sorts of adventurous sushi rolls, and each that we've tried has also been great. Well presented and high quality. The family that runs it have treated my son wonderfully each time and are very hard working. We've eaten at lots of sushi restaurants in many places, and Sumin's is our clear favorite. The fish is always very fresh and high quality. The rice they use is perfect. And each dish they serve is beautifully presented. read more

I've been to this restaurant a few times, it's been ok. Today we went for an anniversary meal, I don't think I have ever been so disappointed the food came out greasy. We asked for no onions and were served extra onions in our food. such a shame. read more

If the daughter is making the sushi, order something else. This place use to be great, not any more. Even if the father is making the sushi these days it is bland and always falls apart, no pride in the product like in the old days. From what I have been able to find in this area Sumin's has the best sushi. It doesn't compare to other restaurants in other towns for sushi though. You'd think that with all the fresh seafood in this area that there would be an outstanding sushi restaurant somewhere! read more

Cucumber salad. Miso soup and sprouts Salad. The cucumber salad was chunky. I prefer it sliced thinly but flavor was good. The OMG sushi....I ordered it based other reviews....was average I found the staff very accommodating. When I mention that the sliced ginger tasted a bit off, they opened a bag from a different vendor that was much better and thanked me for brining it up. I can't say enough about the owner and waitress. They were wonderful. I would go again. read more

I love the food here, and their sushi is great, but the only reason I had to give it two stars is because of the waitress that we had. I am allergic to mushrooms and we had told her that at the begining of the ordering process, that I am highly allergic like hospitalization allergic and she stated that was fine and she would make sure that there wasn't any mushrooms on anything and then the first thing she brought out was our salad and it was covered with mushrooms I then gently reminded her that I was allergic and I watched her go to the back and slightly pick the mushrooms off and bring me back the salad, when I moved a piece of the lettuce back there was another mushroom... ahhhh not so cool... last time I accidently ate a mushroom I ended up being swollen like the Michelan man and hospitalized for three days... Well I guess she really didn't care to much for my health, but the Sushi was good that we ordered, and their wasn't a large wait for the food, I think they should just be more careful next time when a customer voices a concern about being allergic to something. read more
