The best airport breakfast I've ever had. Summer house appears to be a local Chicago business and specializes in English Muffins. They make them fresh! I had the original breakfast sandwich which includes REAL scrambled eggs, tomatoes, breakfast meat or avocado, and cheese on a giant and freshly made English muffin. This is probably the one and only time I've had a breakfast sandwich in an airport where they freshly scrambled the eggs in butter. The sandwich was tasty and fresh. Great airport food. We came here since there are limited options in Terminal 2 and some in our group were disappointed with the other options closer to the gate. Our group of 5 was split into 3 and 2 to sit at the tables on the "outside" of the planters. The hostess/server took our orders (fish tacos and chicken tacos) and brought our drinks, even remembering that I didn't want ice. The tacos were good - fish was warm, and toppings were fresh by airport standards. I would've liked more salsa, as they were a tad on the dry side. Service was friendly, attentive, and fast. My expectations are already quite low when I eat at the airport but this restaurant's rude and incompetent employees & manager STILL managed to disappoint me. I was told my order would take 10 minutes. After waiting 15 minutes, my son went to check on our order. The cashier (Danielle) rudely snapped at him that we "didn't call your number!" Ok, so we wait 8 more minutes (so now more than 20 minutes) and I finally go to ask what is taking so long. Apparently they gave my food to someone else. I tell them I don't have time to wait and I want a refund. The manager (Latina woman) cops an attitude with me and then when she refunds my money - she fails to refund the full amount. She tells me she cannot refund my tip. I tell her that doesn't make any sense and I am not tipping them for wasting almost 25 minutes of my time while trying to catch a flight. The employees and manager at this crappy joint have some nerve being sooo rude when THEY were there ones at fault and the paying customers were being very patient and polite.... Until 20+ minutes had passed AND they were rude to my child. I would give this place ZERO stars if I could. read more

I've reviewed this place before much more favorably. However this experience was less than good. The server took forever to come to our table. When she did, we ordered, and she informed me they weren't making avocado toast that morning because the kitchen was short staffed. Really? They weren't out of any ingredients...just didn't want to make it. I didn't even want the egg. Then I proceeded to order a salad and hummus and was informed they wouldn't serve lunch until 10. It was 9:50. And all the other breakfast items had eggs. Once our food came, it was fine as they'd allowed me to order the salad and hummus. But then again, you expect that with airport foods. Staff was very friendly but the food just lacked flavor and wasn't as warm. The fish felt too chewy and not fresh, and the sauce they provide with the tacos wasn't very tasty either. Had a outbound flight from O'Hare in the AM so decided to stop here for breakfast. I had the three eggs breakfast which came with a slice of wheat bread, hash brown, & your choice of candies bacon or apple smoked sausage, in which I got the sausage. I ordered the eggs over medium and they came out very well. The hash browns had a nice golden color and were crispy on the outside which were delicious. The sausage, personally to me tasted like jerky. Kinda had that fake meat taste. I think the sausage might of had too much of that smoked apple flavor. Wasn't horrible but not something I'd get again. Something to note as well is that they only offer one sausage. If you were to order bacon, I wouldn't know how much they'd give you or how big the slices would be. Overall it was a decent place. The meal did fill me up for the duration of my trip so the price was worth it. read more

I came by here while on a layover from Salt Lake City to Asheville. This place didn't strike me while curb-side but I'm glad I made the stop. I ordered the barbecue double cheeseburger and a sea salt chocolate chip cookie. The burger absolutely blew me away! The meat was cooked just right, it was loaded with cheese, and the bun was delicious. The french fries were plentiful, salty, and somewhat crispy. I'm a huge fan of desserts in general, and especially cookies. So I couldn't resist when I saw this sea salt chocolate chip cookie. It was OK. It was a little over-cooked from what I like but the flavor was really good. The sea salt made a huge difference. I never have high expectations for airport food, but my lunch from Summer House Santa Monica was surprisingly good. I ordered the roasted vegetable salad with chicken. The salad consisted of romaine, shredded carrots, shredded turnips, onions (I asked to take this out), quinoa, ricotta, sunflower seeds, and an Italian vinaigrette. I asked for the vinaigrette on the side as to not get a soggy salad. The amount they provided was perfect if you like a medium dressed salad. For an extra $3, you can add chicken. I am giving this five stars because that's what I do when there was nothing I would change about and experience, and there is nothing I would change about this experience. From the lovely server Antonio, who lavished us with compliments about my baby and excellent service, to the delicious burger (plenty big enough to share), to the great wine list, I am thrilled to have this as an option at ORD. The guacamole was wonderful as well, and you can't beat the location in Terminal 2 between E & F gates. Getting us out of there in time, and with cookies in hand (wrapped up nicely in wax envelopes with napkins, naturally) for the flight, what's not to love? Seriously, Antonio would have been a wonderful server at any casual restaurant in America, so to have someone so attentive and gregarious at an airport restaurant was outstanding. And I seriously loved my food. I think sometimes people dock a star for higher prices at an airport, but it is harder and more complicated to get an airport restaurant staffed and stocked, so I do not take away stars for that. That's just business. And, I think sometimes people take away stars from an airport restaurant, for it just being a kind of odd experience, but this didn't seem odd at all. I don't know if I would've bought $16.95 avocado toast had I not been on a business trip, but I'm pretty glad I did. Summer House was the perfect breakfast and final meal in Chicago. Not too crowded at 8am with just a few people in line and some people waiting at tables for their orders. I waited about 10 minutes, which was the estimate the cashier gave me. The toast came with a small salad on the side and the poached eggs were done perfectly. There were some sliced radishes (I think that's what they were) that were a little too crunchy so I took them out, but the avocado more than made up for it. Very generous with the quantity and the toast it came on was delicious. Maybe a little too cooked in a few places so I was doing some heavy chewing, but the taste made up for it. I also got a chocolate chip cookie because they were massive & in my face from the display case & I couldn't resist. I ended up eating the whole cookie before the toast arrived--it was perfectly baked, not overly sweet, and chewy without being hard. Seating area was clean and plenty of room to relax and enjoy a sit-down breakfast. I'd definitely come back here... maybe not for 17 buck toast but for the breakfast sandwich which was closer to $9 (because spicy mayo = yum). I'm a frequent traveler and Summer House is one of my regular stops at O'Hare. While it pales in comparison to its mother restaurant in the city, it's still one of the best options for a decently healthy meal at O'Hare, an airport that definitely doesn't represent what a fantastic food town Chicago is. Food prep is often sloppy, but I guess I'll give them a pass since they're trying to churn out meals quickly for the airport crowd. Table service is an option, but is nothing more than you now having to tip a lackluster waiter for the same food you could have picked up at the counter (I mean, are any HMS Host restaurant waiters spectacular anyways?) I think that parent company Lettuce Entertain You could definitely see good business in putting in a full sized Summer House at O'Hare with complete table service and a menu to match what you can get in the city at a restaurant that's one of my favorites. read more

The vibes are good and the food was yummy! Wait times, once seated, were pretty long when my party came with a reservation. But, the food was hot, fresh, and delicious! I didn't like brussel sprouts, and then SH helped change my mind. Even my pasta leftovers the next day were fantastic. Our waitress was so fun, patient, even joking around with the table. I was so excited to hear that Summer House had opened in the O'Hare Airport, and when I had a bit of time before a long flight, I thought this would be the perfect spot to grab dinner! I raved to my mom about their guacamole and french fries, and I was psyched to get one of the many things I love from their Lincoln Park location. But of course, the menu is much shorter, and unfortunately, the food is much, much worse. The guacamole was very blah, and their french fries were totally different -- thick and flavorless instead of shoestring and perfectly salted! I was also bummed that when I asked about gluten free options, they said "uh, you can get the tacos, but that's about it." The tacos were so dry, and it's pretty hard to mess up something like tacos... I felt so tricked! The string lights and bright white decor is there. The brand is there. But gosh, this is not the Summer House I know. I'll stick with getting my Summer House fix outside the airport. read more

NOT GREAT A fellow foodie told me I needed to try the double cheese burger here because I'm always at O'Hare flying somewhere. So I decided to venture off for something new to eat. I typically always eat at Tortas Frontera since the day it has opened at O'Hare Airport because it's fantastic. On my way there I saw one of my food photos hanging on the wall at the airport. It was a cool moment and a sign that I did not take. I should have turned around and went back to Rick Bayless's Tortas Frontera restaurant in Terminal 3. When I arrived the design was horrible. I sat at the bar and it was like sitting facing a wall. The bar had two levels and my stool was on the lower level. I couldn't really see the bartender. The worse part is that the server on the floor kept bumping into me as she picked up prepared food and then put down dirty glasses and dishes on the upper bar in front of me. Why didn't they build a servers spot for the waitress at the bar. Personally I think the servers are suppose to use the side door but management is too lazy to tell them to do it the right way. Instead dirty dishes flowed right above my dinner. The bartender kept asking if I wanted another beer. She was referring to the empty beer glasses that the waitress on the floor kept putting in front of me on the upper bar. I had to keep lifting my full beer and she would apologize. It was a little annoying. The other bad part was that the waitress would stand there yelling the bartenders name for service. Honestly my ear is still recovering. I know that this is airport food but Tortas Frontera is getting it right so why can't this location do the same? I ordered my fries crispy but they weren't crispy. The chef even came out and said no problem when the bartender told me they couldn't. I hate soggy fries plus the restaurant wasn't very packed so they can't tell me they were swamped. The burger was good but it was nothing more then a gourmet version of an In n Out Burger that was priced $10 too much. Yes this burger was $13 and it wasn't worth it. I was actually flying to LA and I should have waited until I got to LA for my In n Out Burger at $3.90. At least I tried the burger here but the real kicker was when that other foodie saw me post on Instagram. They said, "Its not worth it. It's a little over priced!" What? This was the same foodie who told me I needed to go eat this. Wow! It's the last time I take advice from this person. I also didn't like that the food was served on paper plates. I don't understand that. I'm dinning in, so why not serve me on a real plate. Let's get smart and start saving our planet. All this stuff ends up in a landfill ruining our environment. I'm not sure a fancy plate could have fixed the problem here but I would have been happy they were making a difference. I will not venture over to Terminal 2 anymore for this place. Overpriced for a so-so food. I got Fish Tacos that came with three and I paid ~$15. For what I paid, the food wasn't worth it. The fish itself was fine but their tortillas were so cold and dry.
