We were in a little shop down the street and a lady asked if we were going to eat lunch here in rehoboth. We said we were and asked her if she had any recommendations for places that were close. This was the place she recommended and we found out why. I even came out of the shop and told my dad the lady recommended the summerhouse and some random person walking by said, "Oh yeah that place is great, you have to try it!" When we walked in we were automatically greeted and seated. The restaurant seemed like any normal bar and grill seafood place so we weren't really expecting too much. There were 4 of us and every single plate ended up being delicious. Chicken wrap: delicious Summer bowl with chicken: fantastic. It was a light meal that didn't weigh me down and came with a whole chicken breast and of course you can't go wrong with the avocado....WINNING. Crab grilled cheese with tomato soup: one of the best that my dad has had. Had plenty of crab on it and the tomato soup was a nice compliment. Sliced Prime Sirloin sandwich: came with a generous portion of meat and the au jus was actually perfect and not too salty like they usually are. If you loved the Summer House in years past you will be sad at how a new ownership has changed this once consistently good and reasonably priced bar food and family place has gone upscale and frankly.... mEH. The burgers still remain on the menu but we opted for the crab cakes and was disappointed, tasted of filler not a lot of backfin and was served with Hollandaise.... Need I say.. this is not Maryland style. Not enough Old Bay ;( The other dishes were ok, not great. The salmon served Oscar style was topped with flaky crab and not broiled to a golden top. Service was great. New remodel is beautiful but we missed what made the old place feel loving and warm and a bit of Rehoboth community. The back bar speakeasy should be a hit. I hope they do well. Upgraded/remodeled interior since I was here last at least 4 years ago. Burger was excellent. Fried clams were outstanding as well. Happened to come on a Monday which is half price burgers. They did not skimp out on the size at all. Very pleased as it was cooked as requested - medium. Service from the front of the house to our server were friendly and kind. Don't know why it took so long to try this place again but I'm glad we did. Will definitely make this a regular stop when we are in town. Oh, also the iced tea was good too! read more

My friends and I went to Summerhouse to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant was nice. Before being seated we grabbed drinks at the bar. I ordered the Tequila Smash. It was not a cocktail, it was tequila on the rocks. Following the bar, we moved to our table. Our waiter, Nick, was amazing. He was attentive and had great knowledge of the menu. I also appreciated the care he took to learn the food allergies within our group. We enjoyed everything Nick brought to our table. They have a gluten free menu and they are very careful when it comes to preparing gluten free dishes. Like the other restaurants in their network, they have a manager come and talk to you when you order GF items. I can eat GF food that is fried in a shared fryer so I was able to eat their regular french fries but their sweet potato fries are apparently breaded and have gluten. I had their ribs which I enjoyed and their apple slaw. Parking, like everywhere in downtown Rehoboth, is a pain. Overall, my experience was so-so, I just didn't love the food. read more

Walked in on a Monday afternoon at about 4pm, customers were sparse. We were seen and seated pretty quickly. The place is about as clean as one can expect from a beach bar in summer. Real cloth napkins with the silverware and paper straws. I got a fountain coke which was perfectly balanced (as all things should be) and my wife got a Samuel Adams Summer beer. The staff were nice and lingered at the host table near the door... all of them... the whole time. I got the sirloin sandwich and the calamari both were excellent. My wife got crab cakes and a salad, she liked both of them. The kid got a burger but she does t count. The only gripe I have is the clump of servers standing around at the front of the place. I Never do this. And I wouldn't if it was a one time thing. But the "ignore you and hope you will go away" approach to service is a consistent problem, just read other reviews to see we are not alone. We experienced this as well prior to the new management by Nala owners and hoped it would have improved, hard to believe that management wont make themselves available and I will say, there are lots of other great restaurants in Rehoboth with similar value / food and they do not have the service plague that we experienced here. We have been to SH probably 6 times this season and for 3 of them, service was inadequate. Last night was it. Won't return and as locals we will share this with the many friends and colleagues that visit. We sat at the bar for more than 10 minutes, maybe close to 20 with no acknowledgement. When we attempted to move seats the bartender rolled her eyes at us and served her friends that had JUST WALKED IN. When we asked the other bartender to get the manager, his reply "can't do that, I'm too busy." We smiled a few times as they walked by us, we were shocked when she walked directly to us, removed a glass from the bar and STILL said nothing. Not a "be there as soon as I can.. or hi, be right back". Nothing. We were Ghosts - and we won't be back. It's really too bad because they have good hours, a nice patio, decent specials, and a few pretty good and unique food options. As a final share, I posted on Facebook and linked in SH, I received a response from SH asking how they could help, when I politely responded that we had a bad experience, SH ended the communication. read more

We walked in late after dragging our kids away from Funland kicking and screaming. I've always wanted to try this place but we generally cook at home. At 10pm on a Thursday this was N-N-Na-NA-NOT gonna happen. All 5 kids were in varying states of meltdown and I was rather concerned that our bill would be exorbitant, but alas, there is a late night menu!! It's like happy hour, but better because it's empty lol. The kids enjoyed enchiladas, chicken tacos, chicken tenders, burgers and wings. Everyone licked their plate. The table fries (massive plates of fries for the table) were a huge hit and highly recommend getting these as starters as the food takes a while to fire. Everyone fell on their food like hyenas BUT at the end, they were all FULL and satisfied, which is the best I can hope for. Service was very good, our waitress wasn't super attentive but she was polite, helpful, and responsive when asked! I can't ask for more than that an hour to close in the busiest part of the season!! The wings are also great and their Ranch AND blue cheese dressings are delicious and worth noting, especially the ranch, which had horseradish and was AMAZING! My hubby and I have NEVER eaten here in all the 30 years or more I have come to the beach. We decided to go eat as recommended by our hotel front desk. Wow! I am so very impressed at the feel and look of this restaurant. It's more of an experience than just a restaurant. I learned that they recently took new owners and remodeled. I am over the moon with this place. Such a fabulous time we had. Our server Alyssa was so kind and efficient. She chatted with us and made us feel so welcomed and appreciated. Way to go Summer House! Your staff rocks! I do not eat meat. So, I was so happy to find that they serve 4 options of protein for their burger selections: angus beef, chicken, salmon, & veggie. They offer about 5 way cool titled options for toppings. I also got the lobster Mac & cheese. Amazingly wonderful! I highly recommend Summer House. When I arrived here, we had a party over 10ppl. It was around the dinner hour. The wait they told me was originally 1.5 to 2hrs. We gladly waited. Luckily, after 30mins, they were able to accommodate our large party. Big kudos to the female staff at the front to accommodate our large crowd at such a quick turnaround. My group of 4 chose to dine here for my birthday dinner before walking around Rehoboth. It was a fantastic decision because all of us were thrilled with our appetizers, meals, and dessert. The crab wontons and Brussels sprouts were a perfect start. The texture of the Brussels was spot on and exactly how our server,Nick, described it. For entrees, I shared the scallops special of the day along with their regular shrimp and scallops meal. We couldn't decide and I'm so happy we went for both! The special included a pesto sauce while the regular entree was served with pasta in a tomato sauce. The pesto and sauce almost outshines the scallops (in a good way). We also shared a spectacular crab cake. Like the apps, the scallops and crab cake were cooked to perfection. The brownie dessert was way bigger than I've ever seen and we loved the outer crunch. It was very hot in there and we asked to have the heat turned down. Robert told us to take our shirts off if we were hot. Well, that would be fine if I had another shirt under my sweatshirt. Then he told us of course you are hot, drinking alcohol does that. The bartender, Candace was super nice. We love going there, but did not appreciate the rude comments from Robert. I only seem to be only seeing old reviews online, so I'll give my opinion for a recent visit February 2024. First time trying this place and last time. We were seated in a booth which was obviously ripped and had black tape covering the seat, and not just in our booth. For a newly renovated restaurant, I wonder why the shabby decor? We were brought a carafe of water which was luke warm at best. I can't say much good about our waiter either. Our food arrived with some missing items and we needed to order beverages. Never saw him after the food arrived and I finally walked to the bar area to order a beer. He brought missing items after most of meal was consumed. The food was bland and tastelessness (except for the French fries which were crispy and hot). Sorry you have a nice new place there and need to do much better! read more

We looked up the Summer House and were excited to see options for my daughter who has both gluten and dairy restrictions. Unfortunately, it wasn't the menu that caused us to leave before even being served. It was a complete lack of sensitivity toward the handicapped. We arrived early on a Saturday evening during happy hours. Four of our eight walked in first with the other four to follow soon. Despite my mother-in-law being wheelchair bound the hostess would not seat us until the entire party was present. This is a common policy at busy restaurants where seating too few people can result in empty seats, however, this was 3:30 in the afternoon in November. There were empty seats everywhere. So, we waited an extra 6 minutes while the rest of the party found a parking space. Leaving an elderly woman in a wheelchair at the hostess stand didn't seem to be a consideration. When our full party arrived we were offered to either sit at the round-tops at the breezy front door or in the back. We chose to go further into the warm restaurant and all had a seat. After ordering drinks we asked about the happy hour. Our server told us that the happy hour was only for the bar. When we told him that if we had known that we might have taken the round-tops he explained that those tables did not count. Only the bar and the high-top were able to participate in happy hour. Again, I understand the reasoning for the restaurant policy. I am a chef myself and have worked in the hospitality industry for more than 30 years. I get that happy hour is an incentive to boost bar sales, however, we had just ordered six cocktails and (as I mentioned) my mother-in-law sits in a wheelchair. When she sits at a bar or high-top the height of the counter/table comes to her nose. We asked to speak to a manager in an effort to point out the the happy hour essentially excludes the handicapped. Instead of getting an exception to the rules the manager decided to double-down, explaining quite matter-of-factly that "this is the way it has always been". Does anyone in really think that "this is the way it's always been" is really an excuse for a complete lack of sympathy or consideration for those who aren't as capable as they are??? I have rarely seen so little compassion in a hospitality 'professional'. It is obvious to me that this boils down to poor training and direction. The staff at the Summer House knows 'the rules' but not the reasons behind them, nor are they given the trust by upper-management to actually make decisions that benefit their customers. Instead of offering our group the opportunity to participate in happy hour (and maybe giving away $10 or $15 in app reduction), they lost $390 in sales. I am confident in this amount as it was the bill at Mariachis, the restaurant we actually ate at tonight, and let me tell you it was worth every penny. Unlike Summer House, Mariachis treated us like royalty and I feel so lucky to have been treated so poorly at Summer House. read more

Just had a doordash from here, first time from Summer House. Menu sounded great but what a disappointment! I thought I ordered a dinner portion of Oysters Rockefeller that didn't arrive. Got 2 tablespoons of said dish, told it was an appetizer...2 freaking tablespoons, more shell fragments than oysters. The driver said it was very crowded as a result of Burger Night. My wife and I started with a burrata salad, with heirloom cherry tomatoes, and balsamic. The components were fresh, and made a nice start to our meal. We both had sautéed halibut over zucchini spaghetti, and sides of Neva's potatoes, and cucumber salad. The fish was better than you'd expect from a bar. Overall, a solid meal worth the price. Be advised that a noisy bar dominates the space, with a multitude of TV screens producing an electric atmosphere. Our service was good. The food was good, decent and pretty basic bar food. I got the chicken sandwich and my boyfriend got the burger while we split the spinach dip. The reason we went was to dine out on the new patio. The patio delivered! It was very calming with the water flowing from the fountain, and the seating was comfortable. The service was slow and they weren't very busy. There seemed to be a problem with the computer at the bar and it took awhile to get our drink order. Our food came out quickly, however, one of our sandwiches was wrong. Our server was nowhere to be found, I asked another server for assistance and she informed our server of the mix up. Our server did not come back to the table to acknowledge the mix up and unbeknownst to us, went straight to the kitchen. She later came out and explained that it would be a few minutes longer and they would take $4 off the price of the sandwich. She also told us we could continue eating the incorrect sandwich. Presentation was lacking as well as the guts of one of the sandwiches. Unfortunately don't think we'll be going back anytime soon.We did appreciate them knocking a few bucks off the price. read more
