We came here on a Sunday around 9:30am, found parking in front of the restaurant, and were seated right away. Excellent service - our servers were very friendly and attentive. The restaurant in itself is really cute and if you have time you should check out all their photos and information about Summerland - very interesting! My family of various ages has been coming to Summerland for at least 30 years! We love the 'homeyness' , and feeling welcome each time we visit. The meals that we have enjoyed here throughout the years, are always straight on, and so enjoyable. The atmosphere inside is from late 1800s or 1900s ~I forgot exactly when this building was built but it's a keepsake! I am fond of their omelettes, their club sandwich,, and their Burger Madness Day, which is typically Tuesday (I believe). Had a super confusing experience trying to have a large party here. We wanted to find a place some of our friends could join us for brunch after our wedding. I called 3 months in advance and spoke with the manager. I asked if they hosted large parties and explained we'd be expecting 20-40 people trickling in between 10:30am and 11am. I specifically asked if that was okay and how we could best organize that to convenience the staff. He said it was fine and we'd be welcome and suggested reserving some tables for us. I then came in for lunch with my family a week later, to meet with him and he offered to reserve the back patio for our group after our wedding. Even said we could decorate if we wanted to! He was so kind I was delighted. We thought we'd hit the jackpot getting this offer of the back patio for our group. Fast forward to today, we showed up for our reservation, and there were folks sat in our reserved area and the host was continuing to seat people there. We asked to clarify why that was and we were told they were only reserving 3 tables for our group. (3 tables do not seat 20. Let alone more than that.) I explained that we'd discussed 20+ and that's when things got ugly. The formerly nice manager marched outside and when I opened by apologizing if there was a miscommunication he got extremely snippy with me about the number in our party. There was no explanation about if they were short staffed or if they wanted to be able to fill all the tables in our area but it was clear he was upset. He asked if we were planning to pay for the patio for the whole day. (What?) While we waited for the rest of our group (5 minutes) the rudeness was so palpable that half of our group noticed and was ready to leave. The rest of our party arrived and he seemed to back down, but it was extremely uncomfortable and not really how we wanted to end our wedding weekend. Our server on the other hand was wonderful, and apologetic and she did everything in her power to make the experience better for us so we could relax and enjoy our farewell with our friends. But our friend the manager never came back to apologize or even thank us for our patronage. We know people may not be their best selves under stress, but if you're in the business of running a restaurant, I'm not sure this was the move. It left a really weird taste in our mouths which is a shame because we've been eating at Summerland Cafe for years and had been really excited to bring people there to enjoy it. All in all I'd not recommend trying to have a large party here since their policies and operations are not very clear. read more

Heads up if you plan on taking a child in for a free breakfast on their birthday. Make sure and bring a physical ID that shows their date of birth. Not necessarily so easy. They will take a birth certificate, but they won't take a picture of a passport. How stupid is that? At least a picture of the child is on the passport. It is not the way I had planned to start my granddaughter's birthday. I have been taking my grandchildren here for at least eight years and I'm trying to decide if I will ever go back. The interior is so unique as it has a layout of a house with inside and outside seating and many photos and knick knacks around the restaurant. Our waiter and hostess were welcoming and wonderful. We were given recommendations and common ordered items off of the menu. However, I ordered based off of what o usually get at breakfast cafes which is a croissant sandwich. It was not good. I was under the impression that my sandwich would have a layer of egg, protein, and so forth, but it was just an egg scramble with sausage. Still not too bad. But the scramble wasn't seasoned, the sausage had no flavor. I had to add salt & pepper and hot sauce yet it still didn't suffice. Maybe I'll come back if I'm in the area and try something else. I have rarely stopped in Summerland. My uncle lived in Carpinteria and my grandmother lived in Santa Barbara so Summerland was a place I would always remember passing by and looking out the window of the landmark Big Yellow House. We've had an opportunity to enjoy Summerland with my daughter playing Lacrosse tournaments at the polo field the last 4 years. What a great community and what a awsome restaurant. When we come to Carpinteria SB campground with our RV friends, we are always looking for a good/new breakfast spot. We truly found a gem at Summerland Beach Cafe. To begin, the ambience of a turn of the century home turned restaurant is hard to beat. The menu is extensive and inclusive of all types of breakfast goodies. We both ordered omelette; I had a baby artichoke, bacon and cheddar folded into 3of the fluffiest eggs I have ever eaten. The wife had the Mayor something omelette; spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and provolone embedded into the same fluffy egg mix. Can you say, "delicious!" And filling! We both opted for fresh fruit over potatoes and I had an English muffin served with apple butter; she had sourdough toast. The wait staff was friendly and attentive with smiles all around. We love Summerland Beach Cafe! My family has had a tradition of coming here for New Year's breakfast for 20 years now. We love sitting outside, enjoying the sunshine, drinking the delicious cinnamon-y hot chocolate, fresh squeezed OJ, and we've tried just about everything on the menu and we love all of it. Our only big disappointment recently is that THEY DON'T SERVE WATER. You have to pay for a glass Voss bottle. Last time we came with 3 little kids and we even had to pay for them to have water, which was taking it to an extreme in my opinion. From now on we will just have to bring our own water because paying $10-$20 extra to simply have water with our meal is too much. I understand the need to conserve water due to the drought, but I can't help but feel it is an extreme measure and may be more of a business move than anything else. We love this place and we love the memories we've made there, and we hope to continue making them, but the water situation is causing us to think twice before bringing the whole family. read more
