Oh no no no. One star is too generous. Ladies' room toilet was clogged. One woman was cleaning it, came out with her GLOVES STILL ON and talked to diners at the table next to us. She also walked behind the cOUNTER WITH GLOVES STILL ON!!! My waffle was cod and snarky little blond server asked me if I wanted it reheated. No. I wanted a new waffle. When I complained to snarky little blond teenager about the gloves and asked to speak to the manager she told me to leave the restaurant. We always stopped at the Summit on our way to and from NYC but never again. And she got a good tip from us. Never was able to talk to the manager. Wonder if she's related? I love Diner food and this restaurant was top notch!! Coffee hot, didn't have to ask for refills and food was delicious. My second trip here, won't be the last;). Unfortunately this diner has had to change their hours to 7am-3pm daily due to lack of help! Although you could tell current employees are tired they were in great spirits and very accommodating. Fun, road side dinner feel that clean and has good food. Love that breakfast is authentic dinner quality and served all day. We also had a burger which was huge, homemade and super reasonably priced. This place is exactly what a diner should be; quick, filling, and satisfying. I showed up at the tail end of the lunch rush and even though it was extremely busy I was taken care of rather quickly and pleasantly. When I pulled into the parking lot it was packed making me think that service inside was going to be a while, I was wrong. I walked in, sat at the counter and was immediately greeted, asked what I wanted to drink and had a menu in hand. When my drink arrived I was asked fairly quickly what I would like to order. I decided to go with the meatloaf which comes with two sides. I opted for the traditional mashed potatoes and a nice starter side salad. The salad arrived almost immediately. Mostly iceberg lettuce, a slice of cucumber, tomato and some onions, nothing spectacular, but it is just a side salad. While I was noshing on this my main dish came out, while it sat there looking good, I kept going at the side salad. While I was greedily eating the waitress passed by several times, on one of those passings she asked me how the meatloaf was. I had to tell I hadn't tried it yet since I was still eating my salad. We both laughed and she asked how my salad was, that should tell you how quickly this place runs. When I finally did get a chance to dig into the meatloaf it was great. A little dry, but that is what the gravy was for. The seasoning was spot on, but what I was really taken with was the potatoes. I don't think that these potatoes where mashed at all, in fact I believe that they were whipped to the point that they could have floated away. So light and tasty I almost wanted to lick the spot on the plate where they once sat after I finished them. When I did finish my main dish my check appeared almost immediately. However I wasn't ready to pay just yet. I had my eye on the gob cake they had in their cooler display. What the rest of the world calls whoopie pies, those of us from this area of the state call them gobs, whatever you decide to call them it does not matter, all that matters is that they are delicious. Between those two thick layers of cakey goodness is an even better layer of icing. Not too sweet, but when mixed with that cake, perfection. After I finished, then the check arrived and I was ready for it this time. Didn't hurt the pocketbook at all which is why I love diners. That and all the chrome. Oh, one last thing, check out the bathrooms, all black and chrome and your are greeted by icons of an era gone by. read more

The Summit diner is located right off the Somerset exit from the PA turnpike. It is modern stainless steel building. Instead of a jukebox at each table they have one centralized one located at one end of the diner. Breakfast is served all day. We opted for lunch since it was later in the day. My husband had the turkey club with chicken noodle soup and cole slaw. My girlfriend had a Reuben with fried and cole slaw. I settled for a turkey Reuben with beef vegetable soup and cole slaw. When we got our soups I noticed the crackers were stale so we asked for new ones. The ones we got we a bit better but not as crisp as I would have liked. Both my husband and I enjoyed the soups as well as the sandwiches. My girlfriend also enjoyed her Reuben as well. Portion size is fairly generous so needless to say we were stuffed that we had no room for dessert. I did take a picture to show what some of their dessert offerings are. This is one of the few diners that serve scrapple which is normally found in diners and eateries in Eastern PA. There weren't very many people there but are waitress was attentive to our needs. Prices are very reasonable. You do not need to pay up front when you are done with your meal. Credit cards are also accepted. Generally speaking we were pleased with our lunches. read more

Do you like good quality, homemade food? How about a friendly staff? A decently large selection for every taste? This. Is. The. Place. I had the SOS on potatoes with a side of the pork sausage they make on-site. It's straight up diner food, I know, but it was done with the care that makes it truly exceptional. The rest of our party had a variety of dishes and all plates were left bare at the end of our meal. Nothing but rave reviews from even the fussiest eaters in our party. Do not leave without availing yourself of some pie. It is worth your time and attention. We've added this to our list of delicious food road stops, and I know we'll be back. You should try it too. We stopped in here for lunch on the way to Fallingwater. We had a great lunch - the menu is extensive and the prices are reasonable. I had the hot turkey sandwich and the turkey was sliced off a real turkey breast, not deli slices like most places serve. The mashed potatoes were the real thing too and the gravy excellent. My son had the hot roast beef sandwich and said the same - great sandwiches for an amazing 7.99 each. My husband had the ground beef steak with brown gravy and mashed potatoes - he loved it. My brother in law had the shrimp basket with fries and was pleased - generous portion of 27 shrimp, perfectly breaded. Service was very friendly and efficient, atmosphere was clean and nice. I only give 4 stars because of their hours. They used to be a 24-hour diner, then scaled back to 11pm or midnight; now they're only open until 2 or 3. The food is usually good, they do have their bad days though where the food will be cold or taste different but overall it's always a nice experience. What an institution. Although the food could use some work, I appreciated the low prices and the convenience of the location, as well as the 50s diner feel, replete with working jukebox. The chicken noodle soup, though homemade, was a bit salty. The meat loaf was the best part of the entree; the accompanying corn and green peas tasted as if they came out of a can. No outside drinks. It's a policy. They don't have it in print anywhere. They wait till you've walked in and decide to ask you if they can throw your drinks away. "We don't allow outside drinks". We walked in with mostly finished Starbucks. I know, a mortal sin. Cause I mean Starbucks is a big corporate meanie. (more on that). And honestly, they can have their policy. I've eaten in places that have everything from no outside drinks, to no sharing, to no taking food home policies. The issue I take with this little place is the manner in which their policy was CONVEYED to myself and my elderly parents. I nursed my mother up their Everest-like steps and into the front door to be greeted with an offer to throw out the two drinks in our hands. My dad was fully ready to order something there. It's a phone booth of a restaurant and so we're immediately a spectacle. Camo hat Dave at the bar has to turn 180 degrees and gawk at us head to toe, along with anyone in earshot (meaning everyone). It was like a record scratched and everything stopped. What a 'welcome' from a 'sweet' little place. Right? We didn't know in the 30 minutes prior to buying our visually insulting coffee that'd we stop in to the Summit Diner. So, the waitress was eager to show her disapproval, huffed that it's "their policy" and sat us down unceremoniously to the baleful eyes of everyone in the entire place. I guess they were trying to figure out if they went to school with me or my dad, or who knows what...they were just STARING. Ok. Cute little diner I know you don't need my business. Fact is, you can keep serving the same thousand people your staff collectively know from high school or girl scouts over the years and never even embrace anyone who isn't from the area. But I'm afraid that being a small diner means you're NOT a "Sorry that's our policy" type place. That's Starbucks. You think they'd even bat an eye if I walked in there with a to go cup from Summit Diner? I mean their reputation as a big corporate meanie is to pull a "that's just our policy". You on the other hand can be inviting to everyone. I know you won't take the advice, I mean I didn't play football with camo Dave or date Becky from the place down the street. But let me give you some anyway. Next time you see some no good out of town so and so like myself sidle in without knowing your policy do this: Simply and politely share a potentially embarrassing tidbit of "policy" tableside, and we can go from there. I bought your coffee and had no trouble doing it. Even though as a first (and last) time diner I was told rudely and quite coldly about your unposted policy over the counter. Believe me, if it weren't for the mobility issue of my parents I'd have turned on my heels and walked right out. 2nd visit to this diner in last couple months and both visits were very good. The wait staff is friendly and the food is good comfort food and the pie is awesome ! With many options to choose from, we tried the graham cracker pie today and it was excellent. Also celebrating my dad's birthday today and when I told the waitress they brought out his pancakes with candles and sang to him. The food was plentiful, tasty, and had a very complete menu. One turn off was the political Maga related shirt the waiter wore.

We stopped around brunch time. I had an order of sausage gravy and biscuits. It was delicious, but could have used more sausage. I also got a short stack of French toast based on the reviews here. The flavor is amazing, but I wish mine had been cooked better. It was a bit underdone for my likeness. Everyone else got breakfast food too and everything looked great. Staff was friendly. I'm in town for business and a friend recommended the diner. Went to go in for breakfast and only absurdity followed. Upon my arrival, I walked into the building and nobody (servers/waitstaff/patrons) were wearing masks, while PA is very much still under a mandatory mask call. I wish that was the LEAST alarming thing. Upon entering the establish, which window is currently painted with an acceptance themed Dr.Seuss Quote, you are greeting by a life size cut out of Governor Tom Wolf with heinous hate-filled messages toward him, the most alarming being "HEIL-HITLER" in bold letters. Being a Jewish person traveling on the high holy day, this was incredibly frightening. As we entered the building, my associates and I (wearing masks) were blatantly looked down upon, whispered about and ignored by the restaurant staff, only being yelled at from across the counter to "CLOSE THE DOOR". Everyone was being seated, but the 5 of us wearing masks, obeying the LAW. Guests were coming in after us and being seated, while they blatantly disregarded us. This establishment was full of hate, and blatant disregard for the safety of any of its patrons or staff. If I could give them a -5 star review, I would. I couldn't recommend any place, less than I could recommend this one. An absolute disgrace. read more
