It's our first time dining at this place, however it will also be our last. The meal was ok, but the salad bar ($2.95/person) needs be an optional item. The cleanliness of the restaurant was lacking, I saw a lot of spider webs on the window frames. The 12% service fee was a surprise and questionable, why 12% and then putting 8% on the tablet where the customer signs?

Went for their 30% off AYCE promotion. Sashimi & nigiri were good quality. Limited roll selection; I feel like they generally have more options for appetizers & hot plates than sushi. AYCE is def worth it while the promo is active, but probably wouldn't spend the full price based on what's available.

I recently dined at Sumo and found the overall experience to be a bit mixed. Starting with the food: given the price point, the quality was somewhat expected, but still left room for improvement. The ramen was served with practically no broth, forcing me to ask for extra. The ribs were paper-thin and tough, while the salmon skin consisted mostly of soggy end pieces. On the plus side, the food came out incredibly fast--so fast, in fact, that everything arrived before our bottle of soju, which the staff actually forgot until we reminded them. Because of the speed, I suspect many items are pre-prepared and reheated; the yakitori, for instance, was only served warm. They also have an interesting mandatory "sitting fee" concept that grants access to sauces, desserts, and sides. Frankly, it feels like a forced addition for very mediocre items, which ultimately discourages customers from ordering more off the actual menu. The service was where the experience really faltered, likely due to a high staff-to-customer ratio and a younger, less experienced team. My biggest issue was the overeager clearing of tables. Servers were constantly hovering and grabbing plates the exact second they became empty. There were no basic manners like "excuse me," "are you still working on this?" or "sorry to interrupt." Plates were snatched right mid-conversation, sometimes even while my hand was reached out. Later, when I was walking to the bathroom, an employee cut right in front of me to rush into the kitchen. Finally, while we were still trying to finish our drinks, we were repeatedly rushed to cash out. For a franchise, I was really surprised by the lack of basic restaurant etiquette.

Wow, nice place for casual, family friendly basic Japanese food. We went during their first weekend soft opening. Lots of parking seating and friendly staff. Not a fancy place, but minimum of 4 star for this type of place. We ordered a variety of items and most were surprisingly good. Tonkatsu ramen- excellent, chicken curry-good, seared scallop roll-excellent, sumo roll-excellent, salmon skin salad-so so, unami donburi-good, fried goyza-ok, fried spring roll-ok. Desserts were a real mixed bag. The Cocoanut pudding was great, the caramal pudding was good, but the "mochi" desserts were awful; not mochi at all but tasted like colored plastic. I mentioned the mochi to the server when we paid, and she said done of the staff liked it either, and acknowledged that this was the point of teh soft opening, so see what worked at did not. Pricing: $2.95/adult seating fee, which includes the salad and dessert bar. You order the rest ala cart via QR code or tablet. We asked for the tablet, so my wife and I could choose items together. All the dishes are reasonably priced, and are smaller size, so you can order many things. All in all, we will come back, and bring the kids next time too. It's worth it for the variety of tasty things you can get at reasonable prices.

You get what you pay for. Food was terrible. You can find way better Japanese food elsewhere.

Now that's out of the way, Santouka is pretty straightforward - they sell different kinds of ramen and have various appetizers. They also have dipping ramen! Their ramen comes in 3 different sizes and the menu describes the differences (ie more meat, more noodles, etc). I got the karage and it came with a side of mayo and spicy mayo. The texture was crispy and the chicken was juicy. The ramen was pretty solid and the broth was very rich and flavorful. I appreciated that the food came pretty quickly after ordering. Santouka was a quick in and out for lunch. They also have special deals for students - ie discounts, free appetizers, free teas.

This one is completely different, being full service with a much larger, expanded menu. The interior is modern and the service snappy. I've only eaten ramen at Santouka before, but they were advertising katsu curry as the summer special, necessitating me to order that instead given my love for the dish. Tonkatsu Curry ($17.50) - The rice seems to be a higher quality short grain, with a superior mouthfeel as compared to typical Nishiki or Calrose medium-grain rice used by most Japanese restaurants in the US. In this case, however, it's cooked with a little too much water, rendering the rice mushier than expected. The curry is not good at all, almost offensively so. It's thin and watery, with as dilute of a curry spiced flavor as possible. It's like a gritty and unpleasant apple sauce in mouthfeel - in fact, my guess is that they do grate a ton of unripe apple into the curry. So much that it gives bitter tartness to the dish, but not any apple flavor or sweetness. Bizarre. The tonkatsu is decent. It's thinly pounded, relatively crisp on the exterior, and is tender with no tough or fatty bits inside. They drizzle it with tonkatsu sauce which doesn't go well with the curry in my opinion. Although given how flavorless the curry soup is, it might actually be needed here just to boost the flavors up somewhat. On top of the rice,, they include a slice of narutomaki, two slightly fried pieces of red bell pepper and an entire ramen egg, cut in half. The egg is tender but with both yolk and white completely set. It's a very interesting choice in toppings - not typically found in katsu curry dishes. It gives the dish a ramen fusion type of feeling, as befitting of a ramen shop. (2/5) The curry was genuinely one of the worst I've ever eaten at a restaurant. I probably should have stuck to the ramen. Bathrooms - Two unisex rooms
