Let me tell you why Sun Auto Service has lost my business for years to come. They lost my trust. I have a mechanic shop in Austin that I have been taking all of my vehicles to for over 15 years (Austin AutoTechs on Hamilton Road in north Austin). I try to take any and all auto issues to them, however, they are not always competitive on things like oil changes, tires, rotations etc but are otherwise very reasonable in price and can be trusted. I moved to Leander about 2 years ago and wanted to find a nearby oil change business and landed at Sun Auto Service in Cedar Park. I took both of my vehicles to get an oil change recently and was told I needed front and rear brakes serviced on one of my vehicles. Austin H ( the manager) told me it was a safety issue and he did not recommend going longer than a week before getting it fixed. My ears had perked up during this transaction, as another customer standing near me was also being sold on fear tactics for what I call up-sell services. I informed them I would be taking it to my regular mechanic for a second opinion and was asked "what can we do to earn your business?". I said I would evaluate the quote and get back to them. The bid was for $671.20. If my other shop validated it, I fully intended on returning for the service if the bid was competitive. I then took my vehicle to my regular mechanic about a week later for a brake check service. They informed that I had about another year's worth of pads left and did not need any work done at this time. Wow! A year - not a week. I can anticipate that Sun Auto Service would counter with a statement that another shops opinion is irrelevant to theirs, and that for "safety" reasons only their assessment counts. I would agree to that if my shop had said, " a coupe of months" or weeks, but a full year? That's a big difference. In summary, Sun Auto Service was another typical car shop that turned out to be a disappointment. Their service was great at the beginning - but they lost my trust by trying to sneak in some unwarranted expensive brake work (a textbook example). read more

Ask them if they work on commission. We initially went to Sun Auto for oil changes but they up sold us repair work we didn't need. When we had a legitimate repair that needed work, they couldn't do it but charged us anyway. We took it back to them multiple times and they never repaired the problem. Highly recommend you use Firestone's $20 inspection as a second opinion before paying Sun Auto to repair anything. They don't work on commission. That "urgent emergency repair so you can safely drive your children" may not actually be necessary. read more

Took a chance on going here simply for location ( close to my job ) ... needed new breaks , an oil change and an inspection. Figured it would be awhile and several hundred dollars but from the first phone call Allen made me feel comfortable and assured me he wouldn't take me for broke OR have my car for days on end. Dropped it off on a Thursday at 4:30pm, car was done by 10am the next day. All under $500( fair in my opinion ) . Great service, 5 stars. Will definitely be returning. read more

I have been consistently taking my van here for maintenance and inspections for about five years. Their prices are very competitive (and they offer coupons) and it's rare that they recommend I have any additional work done, which I believe is indicative of their integrity and only recommending it when it's needed. The waiting room is spacious and bright. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that I've had some long waits despite having an appointment. read more

I went to Sun Auto in Cedar Park, TX for them to recheck their work on my Valve cover they replaced due to the fact my car was still leaking a bit. They were gracious about it and after checking, they told me it is in another area of my car. Which I understood because I have an older car. He told me he would call me in a few days to get me an estimate after the parts they needed came in and he did. I asked him if he could email me the estimate and he agreed. But I did not so I waited a week before calling back and I was told their email system is down, but I could come by to pick it up. When I did I was told by the same guy that they do not print out estimates anymore due to the fluctuation of prices, but would give the final price which I wrote down on scrap paper. I was flabbergasted and thought is it why it is called an estimate? I left the shop and will never return. How can I trust the shop if I can't get a written estimate? read more

Splash Shield on my Honda Accord was falling off after parking too close to a high curb and a Honda dealer was going to charge me over 245.00 to get the front splash shield replaced with labor and all fees, I called Sun Auto and David had me bring my Honda in for them to look at it, (he wouldn't quote until he was able to inspect the vehicle which I truly appreciate now) they fixed it for 0.00 by checking the shield and got it attached back to the car. Truly appreciate that they took time out of their busy day with paying customers to be honest and help me out. I' have other repairs that need to get done on my car and this is the shop that I'm going to keep coming back to since they are in the same shopping center as my job. DO NOT GO TO SUNS AUTO! New management is sheisty. Him and his team Left all my vacuum hoses loose, which caused a EVAP leak engine light. I paid 700 for a full transmission diagnostic and they left my transmission pan off. I just realized. I was doing maintenance because it looked like a oil leak in my drive way, but it was really the transmission pan missing so it was dripping off the last of what was left. They are the worst service I ever had!! read more

I am very much disappointed, never ever recommend this place for your car service. Appointment was in the morning 8.30 and the service advisor said that it's going to be 2-3 hrs. I left my car around 8.30 and no response. After keep calling so many times, got to know that it's going to be ready by 3.30. Tire rotation and vehicle inspection and many other checks as part of major service special package were not done. Finally got my car at around 6 PM. Waste of money and time. read more

Original review below. ----- I've spent thousands (literally) at this shop on my two vehicles. I thought a couple of years ago that I had found a trusted auto resource. My confidence is crashing. A few months back I made a Sat appt for an oil change. When I show up at the appt time, I'm told "we don't do Sat" appt. That's a bit perplexing considering I got a text confirmation from Sun. When I share that I have the confirmation, he blames it on corporate and says it means nothing. They advise they will work me in as soon as possible. 1.5 hours later I'm told it should be done soon. I go outside and looking in the garage I see two techs leaning on my truck, one smoking/vaping. I raise the concern to Homer, he apologizes. Yesterday I have some work done, including a Mobil 1 oil change. I had to bring it back in today to complete a repair on a light fixture, where they had to order the part. I noticed this morning, that after yesterday's oil change they did not change the sticker. When I take it back in for the light repair, I ask if they did the oil change. Jordan(?) confirms they completed it. I ask them to show me the dipstick. It's half full. Jordan suggests it's normal to not fill up. The oil is also dark, not consistent with fresh oil. He insists it was done. I ask if I can see the oil filter. He agrees to lift it. I'll be happy to share the pics, but it was a soiled mess. I'm talking used for months type of soil, not less than 1 day. He offers to do the oil change again. I'm glad I was given the option to watch them perform the change. The tech was courteous. As he was about to pour in the new oil, I asked him if that was Mobil 1. He said no. He went off and checked and came back with a case of Mobil 1. Disappointed to say the least ..... read more

Will not stand behind their work. We are out $500 and the issue is still not fixed. But they will "fix it" for another $300. Seriously!! Took our Expendition in to have the air conditioner fix. They said this is what is wrong and we can fix it. Gave them our money and they "fixed it". Not even 30 days later same exact problem- take it back and that is when they offered to "fix it" again for $300. So basically you charged us to fix it but now what you fixed wasn't what was even wrong with it?! So now you want more money to fix it right this time? No thanks we will take our money and business elsewhere. How hard is it to be honest and do what is morally right?! read more

Hey Austin peep. Don't use sun auto on medical pkwy in cedar park. Took car in for oil change, they tried to talk me into brake fluid and transmission fluid changes, all for a mere $504. I got outta there quickly (after hour and a half wait, I had an appointment too) turns out, ya just top off yer brake fluid and the transmission fluid isn't even due for another 30000 miles. They thought I was just a dumb bunny. Also what ticked me off was the fact that I told the dude that took the keys that the tires were new and needed no rotation. They removed them anyway. My car is under warranty with the dealership and when I called they informed me that they were backed up. They let me know that Sun Auto Service would take the overflow and honor the warranty. I called Sun Auto and Homer answered the phone and was so great! He had a tow truck arrive at my home within an hour and kept me informed along the way as to the progress of my repair. I highly recommend these guys! read more

I had a coupon for an $18.95 oil change which included oil filter, tire rotation, etc. Because I'm very picky about my oil, I always ask if they have Mobil 1 and if not, I bring my own. Nobody pitched a bigger whine about it than Bob Allen, the Store Manager. He went on and on about the shop's "Liability" for using sealed quarts of a high quality full synthetic oil but ultimately decided that he would do it for $43.19 (no deduction for their oil they're not using). I DID NOT AUTHORIZE any inspection or poking around my vehicle but that's exactly what happened. The next thing I know, they're calling me to "show me what they've found". First he shows me fluid leaking from my AC compressor. Wasn't leaking before I brought it in, everything under that vehicle has always been bone dry. His estimate? $1,550 to fix. Next, the ball joints. He must think I'm stupid or he must think all women are stupid because he's telling me that the angle of the joint is wrong. Hands me a $1,040 estimate to fix the top and bottom ball joints, but offers to throw in a free front end alignment. The fun doesn't stop there, there is now some viscous black slime running from the transmission towards the rear transfer case. "It hasn't gotten to the transfer case yet, but it's only a matter of time. This has been happening for awhile". Wow no kidding? I'm amazed that the Ford Dealership completely missed that when they did a complete Transmission Service within the past six months. He shows me a rubber gasket and then tells me it's the rubber ring - assumes I don't know what a gasket is - that's what's leaking. It's not old, it's not cracked, it's not dried up. $340 to replace that. The final issue is the brake fluid needs to be flushed. It seems that the $1,500 I had spent in the last year on brakes by one of the area's best mechanics, the ONLY mechanic I let touch my vehicle for anything major, failed to flush the brake system. Only $89.40 to flush the brakes. I just nodded, paid them double their advertised price for the oil change and tire rotation and left. Took my vehicle straight to my mechanic who stared in disbelief at the five pages of estimates and problems. His conclusions were that the fluid from the transmission was a normal "seep" for the age and is not a problem and does not require replacement. He also suggested there was no way Sun could replace that gasket for the estimated price since the whole transmission would have to be pulled. Want my advice? RUN AWAY! ignore the coupons, you'll never get anything for their advertised price. Find a reputable auto repair place that doesn't give you grief for using your own oil or stocks the brand you want and do not let them carry out unauthorized inspections. I give Sun Auto Service in Cedar Park one star because I can't give them negative stars or no stars. read more

Sun Auto Service- Cedar Park, TX location is HIGHLY recommended. Today I went in for an oil change and they were done within 25-30 minutes!! The customer service is just amazing. The environment is clean and friendly. The service is fairly quick, and they are very ethical in conducting business. One of the best customer service experiences I have ever had. What could have been a dreadful experience (hauling a 2 year old and an infant) into an oil change and inspection on a 100 degree day) turned out to be the highlight of our day. My 2 year old son is very interested in cars and the men in the shop took him under their wing and catered to his interests - let him behind the desk, gave him a chair to stand on to see all of the cars being worked on, even let him watch PBS kids on their waiting room TV. We've been using Sun Auto for about 3 years now and have always been impressed with their service, honestly and prices. We won't go anywhere else. I had to get a state inspection and oil change done on my truck, they had a full schedule but they were kind enough to squeezed me in. Staff at the front desk were friendly and courteous. I had to get some shopping done so decided to leave the truck with them. They are located in the 1890 Ranch shopping center, so you have a number of shopping/restaurant options and a movie theater nearby. You don't have to sit and wait for your vehicle, but if you do decide to wait, they have a nice waiting area and clean facilities. My service was scheduled for 4pm and they called me back in 45mts to say the truck was ready. The service and inspection was done to my satisfaction and they did find that my battery was pulling low amps. I would definitely consider taking my truck here again. read more

Brother had a problem with his Engine light and Battery light and it turned out to be the belts. They took him in at 11am and had him out by 2pm for about $250. Very fast very reasonable. They called and updated us as we had errands to run. They did initally say about $100 for the diagnositc but only charged half of that since we had them do the work. We were worried when dropping it off since they were closed Sunday and Memorial Day but he said we WILL get your car back today even if we have to stay late. Awesome. read more

I went here, because they had a coupon to do an AC diagnostic for a decent price and to get my inspection done. The quote for the AC was almost $400 dollars and their labor rates are insane. They never offered to repair my AC tube only offered to replace it with premium parts. They also kept asking me to do other things to my car I never allowed them to even consider. The guy at the counter tried to make it seem like I was crazy for getting a second opinion and a hassle to put my car back together. They also left me with zero freon whenever I left. I took my car then to a place off 183 called Leander Inspection Center and AC repair at 101 183 rd. They fixed it for $125 taxes included and repaired my tube. The AC works great and I would never even consider going back here again. If you need AC work done go there instead. They are really nice and honest people. read more

We had a slipping noisy belt on our 2002 Highlander. We drove by just to see if it was something they could take care of. He said normally they would prefer that we leave the car at closing, so they could start on it first in the morning but after looking at the problem he said if we were willing to wait, he could do it right then and he did. It took less than an hour and the cost was reasonable. We were impressed with the clean looking shop, the clean waiting area, large screen TV, nice restrooms, coffee, soda machine while we wait, and plus you can walk over to the theater, or Target or nearby stores while waiting. I have my oil changes done here. Close by, clean place, friendly staff, and at a great price. They point out any potential issues or maintenance needs going on with my car, but they do it in a way that is helpful without trying to "sell" me on it. (Medical parkway location) Bloodsuckers! Kinda gave me ridiculous estimates for a simple part (almost 4 times) with only 2 yrs warranty where as I got the part from a local retailer for 1/4 the cost and life time warranty. Very rude if you are a person who question the costs! I already knew what the issue was and told them before hand but they would still run diagnostics (God knows why) and charge me for that. Would not even honor their own coupon after I questioned every cost and brought it back down. Robert you need to work on better customer service. read more

I took my truck in for an oil change and a tire rotation (I also had a tire low on pressure) before a road trip. I had my young son with me so we dropped the truck off and walked to a nearby store. After a while the guy I dropped the keys off with called and said my truck was ready. As I walked back I noticed my truck was parked in the exact same spot and in the same position I left it. I thought this was a little strange because I didn't park it near any of the other cars. As I walked past my truck it was readily apparent that the tires had not been rotated and a tire was still low. I checked out and got my keys. When I started the truck I noticed the TPMS light was still on, and the digital dash display still read "maintenance required" indicating it was due for an oil change. Also the sticker from the last oilchange I got at the dealership was still on the windshield. On my receipt it clearly said that an oil change and tire rotation was completed. I went back inside and told the clerk what I observed. He said that the tech didn't rotate the tires because the wear was even and that he forgot to reset the display and forgot to replace the sticker. I said "well my receipt says that the tires were rotated and if that is a lie than how can I believe that the oil was even changed?". I told him that I suspected that my truck was never even touched. They pulled the truck back into the bay and changed the oil and rotated the tires while I watched. I sincerely believe I was being ripped off. read more

Avoid this place like the plague. They wanted to charge me $540 to replace the starter in my Chrysler. I told them no thanks and now the Chrysler doesn't have power. I swapped out the starter anyway and it took me 45 minutes with a set of ramps and a Craftsman socket set. I am not a mechanic either. The starter I got cost me $50. I normally don't write reviews, this is very special and i have to do it for people like me who are always worried to get the vehicle to the shop for many reasons. Let me tell you my story, i have 09 accord and which had rattling sound coming from engine whenever i start my AC, its so annoying. I took it to few shops and they suggested to drain and refill the Freon and some said to replace the pulleys around AC compressor and it was not guaranteed. Sound was bothering me a lot and I need to get this fixed somehow after thorough search online i made a decision to take it to Sun Auto at cedar park as I had good experience with them before. They found issue in no time which need one nut and washer replaced at heat plate and the great thing was they didn't even charge me and no over selling anything. My car broke down around the corner from this location. Sam, a friend gained from another car care business, happened to be on duty. Sam caught a ride with my husband to my parking spot, jumped the car and then took us over to the shop to do a quick diagnostic. Final say: new battery required. Considering it wasn't under warranty, Sam quickly installed a new battery for us. Everyone was super awesome and helpful! Highly recommend this location and becoming a 'friend of Sam'. read more

I love this Auto Repair Shop, Sun Auto Service has earned my business with far above and beyond service, I will never go any place else again. My step daughter had brakes going bad, on her 2002 Ford Ranger found out the axle seals were bad too and were leaking fluid into the rear brake drums. The Manager in the Cedar Park Location was extremely helpful and helped us get her truck back on the road. I felt very good about her driving a safe vehicle again. These guys are the VERY BEST!
