During a busy weekend in Nashville, we were hungry. We stopped in here and were seated immediately. Amanda, our server, was patient and kind. She made a few recommendations so we went with the steak and eggs and the burger. We shared a beer. The food came out in a reasonable time and we devoured it. Amanda was around to check on us. We've been in Nashville for three and a half days and this has been our favorite restaurant experience so far. It was a last minute decision and we are glad we did. Most of the restaurant is old style counter service. You sit on stools next to strangers. Our host/waitress was phenomenal. She did a great job of making conversation, recommendations as we ordered and keeping drinks filled. The place was packed but clean. There was great music playing (sun records greats) and pictures of the musicians on the walls. A great experience. The food was good as well. I had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The breading had great flavor with the right amount of salty and spicy to balance the waffle which was soft and sweet. They also give you sausage gravy whiz I got on the side at the recommendation of our waitress. It had great flavor. I ended up spreading it on the chicken and waffles. Along with the syrup it made a really good combination of flavors. My wife ordered the million dollar quartet. The chicken sausage had great flavor, the eggs were cooked just like she requested and the potatoes were crispy and complimented the eggs and sausage well. So, coming to Sun Diner was definitely my idea. It's another tourist-y place to cross off your list in Nashville. Once we arrived to the location and saw it was on in the heart of Broadway, I was practically begging my boyfriend for us to go somewhere else. It was Saturday afternoon, brunch time....could you even imagine the horror? Very much to my surprise, it was not bad at all to get in and out of here. The way Sun Diner is set up is a bit interesting. All of the tables are rows of bars, diner-style. Those waiting to be seated stand in a line until someone gets up to leave. I didn't like this idea at first, but we really didn't have to wait that long. Service and food were great! I ordered a breakfast burger that was really delicious. A lot of classic "brunch" options; Sadly they did not have mimosa, but they did have beermosas. This is a cool place for tourists to experience in Nashville. My toddler is pretty flexible but I wouldn't consider this a kid-friendly spot, especially for little ones. There are no high chairs and limited booth seats, otherwise there are stools around the breakfast bars. The menu is a bit limited in some regards (no decaf coffee or tea), and the food was okay. You will likely have to wait for a table and when I say wait, I mean cram yourself inside and hover over people so you can snag their seat the second they leave. There's no hostess, it's a free for all. Try to sit at the counter if you can, it's way more fun. The service is no-nonsense from older women who will call you "honey" and "sweetie," obvious diner waitress lifers who excel at their jobs. The kitchen is really fast, so you can get in and out in under an hour once you find a seat. The diner is open 24/7, but they serve a limited late night menu from 10 pm - 5 am. Don't panic! It may be a smaller menu, but it has all the dishes on it that you'll want to order! Since we were here with a crew of 6 friends and all of us had been downing whiskey shots for the last four hours at the nearby honky tonk, we made the most non-healthy choices you could imagine. From our friends and their fries dipped in milkshakes to spicy hot wings on top of a giant cheese omelette, we ate like drunken kings. Hubby got the donut breakfast sandwich ($10.95), which takes a glazed Krispy Kreme-style donut and piles it high with a sausage patty, fried egg, and cheddar cheese. I opted for the chicken and waffles ($14.95), which featured a savory rosemary waffle with a fresh piece of fried chicken on top, finished off with heavy cream gravy. Talk about friendly service. We walked in needing change for the Cash Museum which is next door (they don't take cards and just opened and couldn't change $50). I explained the situation and the waitress was heading to her purse to make change from her personal money when a patron stepped in and made change. I thanked them and said we'd be back later. We did go back, twice. The next time was for sweet tea to go (which was delicious) and it was really cheap like a dollar. The server wouldn't charge us for it because "it was just a tea". We left her a $5 tip saying we'd be back. Our third trip back was to share an order of chicken and waffles. Wow was it tasty. The waffle was fluffy and flavorful and the chicken crispy and juicy. If you're in DT Nashville and it's late out, you should go to this diner for something to eat. It's diner food with simple menu option (1 page), and you can get your stomach full. I would always come here if everything I do ends around 9 pm. Restaurants typically close at 9 or 10 pm, so if you don't want to rush yourself in eating, just go to Sun Diner. I would recommend Chicken Tenders because the chicken actually is tender, and it comes with fries. My fiancé wasn't big on the Egg Benedict because there was no sauce on it, shockingly! When I was here in 11/2018, the diner finally has Jason Aldean's bar built on top, so it was quite loud with live music when I was there around 10 pm. I kept thinking it was music blasting from the cars outside on the street. In 12/2017, I was here as well, and I ordered Chicken Waffle.
