The wait staff runs this restaurant like a well oiled machine. Its best to not try to sit a large group as you can get in much more quickly with a single or couple. We saw a few larger groups have to split up or line up. Coffee was fresh and food came out within 10 minutes of ordering it. Its a busy place but you don't feel rushed. Felt like a true diner in the best way.
We stopped here for brunch as we were staying in the hotel across the street. We were pleasantly surprised to find there was no wait on an early Saturday morning and we were seated right away. Our server was amazing! She was efficient and friendly. The food was soooo good, those potatoes practically melted in my mouth! It was fun to watch the kitchen staff make the food as the kitchen is open right next to the seating area. Whenever I get back here again I'm definitely ordering the biscuits and gravy!
Came in a bit before 10:00 on the last Tuesday of the year. True to from, there was a line wrapped around the inside of the place that moved surprisingly fast. Had the chicken and waffles, with sausage gravy over the top. I read some reviews that implied the waffle was meh, but I found it to be delicious. Maybe one of the best waffles I've ever head. The chicken was perfect and the sausage gravy delicious. Only knock I have is the OJ was promoted as fresh squeezed. Didn't taste that way to me, or if it was, it was squeezed a week ago. Service was fast and friendly. When we left, the line was out the door (it was 23F outside).
We had breakfast at the Sun Diner and overall it was a solid experience. I didn't order the sausage biscuits and gravy, but the guy sitting next to me did--and with only counter seating, it really feels like one big family. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs, and my daughter got eggs with bacon and cheese. The chicken fried steak was fantastic, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The potatoes were just okay, nothing special, but not bad. What really adds to the place is the service--it's fun, friendly, and part of the charm.
I stayed in Nashville for 4 days and came here three times for breakfast. All three times I got chicken and waffles. I've had better waffles somewhere else. But, the fried chicken here, topped with gravy, and topped with their house made spicy pecan syrup, is unbeatable. The meat was tender and moist, coating was light and thin. Gravy and syrup balance each other off perfectly. My coworkers have gotten different things and all had very positive feedbacks. Service was fast and friendly. You wait at the door and someone will direct you to where to sit at the counter. If you want some good southern diner food, skip the long line down the street at Pancake pantry and come here. Highly recommend!
As is the norm here, we arrived at brinch time and stood in line against the wall. The line looked intimidating, but the greeter said the wait would be 10-15 minutes and she was correct. There are only 2 booths in here, everything else is a counter style seating- as we were just a party of 2 this was no issue but this may not be an ideal spot for large parties. We did see plenty of parties of 3 finding seats at the counter and several parties of 4 and 5 squeeze into the booths when they opened. I did the chicken and waffles and they were delicious!!! The chicken was well seasoned and hand battered. The waffle was thick and slightly sweet. My daughter did the creme brulee french toast and gave it a thumbs up. Our server was friendly and quick to pour and refill coffees and water. I enjoyed the meal and appreciated the service but suspect its a one and done spot for us because it was pretty tightly packed.
We really really enjoyed Sun Diner. So much we went twice in our 4 day stay. Day1. Got there and 'stood against the wall' to wait for a space at the counter. Wasn't more than 5-10 minutes we got two seats. What to order, what to order. Wife got the million dollar quartet, and I got the Breakfast hash burger (double stacked with egg) and I destroyed it. So good. Fellow patrons told us about the 'secret' ketchup almost at the end of our meal (they have their own brand of ketchup that tastes more like steak sauce). Day2: We were pros. Bring out the 'secret' ketchup please. Breakfast burrito please. Sat again the bar, chatted with fellow patrons and told them about the ketchup so they can pay it forward. It's of the standout places we ate it, food and experience.
Cute, definitely popular, diner in the heart of downtown Nashville with only 2 (big) tables and the rest bar seating. We only had to wait about 20 minutes for a party of 4 on a Saturday afternoon- around 1230pm. The diner was lively and everyone was helpful. The walls were adorned with pics country artists and the space was clean. Their menu wasn't extensive which is surprising for a diner. Typically diners have loads of choices. The menu was only a one-pager! Ordered the "Pick 3 Omelete" [$15] which came with greens & potatoes. Also opted for a side of waffle [$7]. Both items were mouthwatering good! That waffle was sooo thick and the batter was excellent. The eggs were really good as well. The Sun Diner felt like a step up from "diner" food. Fairly priced for good food. Check them out, but be prepared for a wait!
I'm not sure what the deal was but both of us that dined here had upset stomachs halfway thru our meal. The service was really good and the portions are nicely sized where you could share. However, maybe it's something added to the food that messed up both of our stomachs. I had the fried steak with eggs and corn bread. I didn't enjoy it at all. Steak needed seasoning and the biscuit was dry. The seating is barstools and it mildly loud inside. Mostly from the attached restaurant that has performers next door. I wouldn't return. It was a cute concept.

Fantastic breakfast spot in Nashville. Atmosphere and service was great. Of course the food was incredible . Had to get the Chicken and Waffles. Tennessee sure knows how to do breakfast. Will definitely visit again next time we are in Nashville. read more

Perfect little diner just off of Broadway to get some delicious breakfast. All counter bar service and it was very good. The menu is accessed through your cell phone but since it wasn't working, they had paper menus. When we arrived on a Thursday morning at 8:30am, it was not crowded so we had no problem getting 2 stools together. There is a hostess for when there is a crowd and the line queus outside. The food is better than basic diner food and the prices are reasonable. This is a great place to go for a quick meal and to get a good food base in tye belly before venturing to the honky tonk for a day of music and alcohol. Good to know that they do have take out food and the walk up menu from the window is a little different than the diner menu. read more

Service was great and super friendly! The food was delicious and the portion sizes were pretty big - definitely could've split our meals between two people and had plenty to eat. We came here for lunch, and it was a super cool restaurant. It had a neat set up that I'd never seen before. Also, the bathrooms were very clean!! Definitely would recommend trying it if you're looking for somewhere to eat while visiting Nashville :) read more

They let us store our luggage near us while we ate and the Elvis memorabilia photos throughout the diner are beautiful!! The waitress was adorable and called me baby The Food: Pork belly tacos are just that so if you're looking for meat, choose something else because it was virtually all fat.. the chicken fried steak was good, but the over easy egg tasted like it was not fresh.. it had an expired egg taste to it so I left it on the plate.. There is a tasty green salsa that helped give flavor to the potatoes. Coffee is 4 dollars and tasted like they need to clean their coffee maker, no free refills on it.. The 6 dollar fresh squeezed orange juice was just OK.. It's mostly all counter and barstool seating although I did see a booth or two as well. We went this one time for the experience, but will not return. read more
There's always going to be a line but it's worth the wait. Located in the heart of downtown Nash. Great in and out spot. No reservations, first come first serve establishment. Cool decor and the food is fresh and flavorful. A southern charm! read more
Was worried I couldn't find a decent place to eat breakfast but an exhaustive Yelp search led us here and we were not disappointed. Yes there's sometimes a line out the door but take that opportunity to soak in the atmosphere, see what people are ordering and look at the classic country artists on the wall. It doesn't take that long to get a seat. Good comfort foods. Reasonable prices. Awesome servers. read more

Great location, nice an welcoming staff, seriously yummy food and the atmosphere is amazing! Seating is a new version of old diner seating. Did I mention the food was soooooo good. lol! I had Crème brûlée French Toast, my son had biscuits and gravy, my husband had short rib on hash browns. Oh and the sweet tea deserves a mention too.....5 stars!!! I mean when you're from the south you will be judged on your sweet tea and this was a winner!! Also, this would have been 5 stars but the hash browns were a little undercooked...but that's the only complaint. Otherwise it was yummy. When in Nashville you should stop in! I noticed a review that said no free refills on coffee or tea.... not sure where they're eating, but we had all free refills. No issues with that. And the portions were huge. read more
A great late night dining spot located less than a half block off Broadway & all the hustle. You can't go wrong with chicken & waffles, steak & eggs, or a sloppy egg burger with bacon & cheese. I mean you need something to soak up the beverages you've consumed on the strip, right? A fun atmosphere and great place to people watch. The staff was engaging and definitely in to engaging with the diverse group of people. A definite place to keep in mind if you find yourself hungry in downtown Nashville. read more

I heard about this diner quite a bit! Pumped to finally try it out given they were closed for a good long while during Covid. The food was decent, nothing crazy spectacular, but good, nonetheless! Likely revisit again, but more probably after a night of drinking. **the bartender was super nice and fun! We had a good time at the bar top! read more

The line was really long when we arrived at 9:30am on a Sunday, but it did move quickly. The food and service was 10/10! Would definitely return next time I'm in town to try more things off the menu. read more
Picked this restaurant to sit down for a bit after walking all over Broadway street and the surrounding area. Most of the seating are stools and a zig zag counter top. The system is to line up on the wall and the waitresses will call you to sit when they deem you worthy enough. Our waitress that sat us was actually quite nice unlike the first crabby one we spoke to when walking in the joint. She came to check on us periodically to see if we needed anything. The food was okay too. Nothing to go crazy over but good comfort food from a diner. The restaurant is in close proximity to the Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline museum and just a block off Broadway. read more

Just came across this place looking for the Johnny cash museum. It is all breakfast besides the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. The service was very quick and great which is exactly what I was looking for. The sandwich and meal itself was perfect! The chicken had so much flavor, sweet and spicy! Highly recommend this little restaurant if you want breakfast or just a great hot chicken sandwich! read more
3rd time back..although there has been some stretch of time. The menu did somewhat change. So this time around I found out the breakfast Flatbread was no more. (Twas my favorite) i guess that's why the French toast had to suffice. read more

The hotel bellmen which is a local referred us to this place. First thing he said was do you want touristy or do you want to go where the locals go? Of course we said locals!! Walked in this amazing place which was about 8 mins from Our hotel which was The Omni. The staff/ service/ food were top notch to us. Very welcoming and friendly place plus the food was delicious. Now my wife and I normally share a plate but to be honest we both could have gotten our own plate. As we looked around we seen so many great options we had to choose from but we stuck with the chicken fried steak. To my coffee lovers they do not have flavored cream. Which is okay because once you have the food who cares about coffee this wasn't a deal breaker for us just an FYI. Friendly service, top notch. Ambiance is themed for Sun Recording Studio, so it really gives a 50's old breakfast diner vibe. Small and place is busy... so you might have to wait. Food is cooked right in front of you and man... great breakfast. Biscuits are fluffy and tasty, coffee is hot and poured often. read more

We came here on a hot Thursday afternoon May 2022. We wanted to go and eat at the Kid Rock restaurant but it was so packed and so loud that we opted to walk right across the street to this quiet and quaint little diner that serves breakfast all day long. I got a three egg omelet with potatoes and my sister ordered the same but added the huge waffle. Everything is delicious. It is served with their own brand of syrup and also a smoky flavored ketchup that was really good on the potatoes. We also enjoyed a fresh hot cup of coffee. There was only about four people in the whole place but it was quiet and cool and perfect for our afternoon meal. The prices were reasonable and the decor was pretty cool with all kinds of blues musicians from the past on the walls. I would definitely choose this place instead of the six-story diner of the road. We went there and the atmosphere was not as nearly as pleasant as the Sun diner! read more

What can I say, when you walk in, it's truly an old diner feel, complete with a wrap around counter that literally forms an "S" and an extra tail complete with stools for ALL to sit on! The line forms along the back wall which is adorned with old photos of Elvis and all of the other Old Timers from that era, plus more! It really is quite nostalgic and eclectic. The ceiling looks like it's been gutted and opened for all to see, but not in a rundown, dilapidated way by any means. When a seat or seats open up, they call out to the 1st person in line and ask how many in your party, you have the option to wait and "try" to sit together if you have a few people as it truly is 1st come, 1st served. This definitely is NOT the place for a large crowd, since it is a smaller venue completely surrounded by 5 story establishments all around it! In all honesty, the line really does move fast, at least it did on BOTH days of our vacation we ate there! Yes, we came back for seconds rather than trying something new (which was the game plan from get go on our Nashville eats trip)! Each month we have been flying to a different location/state to explore the city and try new culinary adventures. I ordered the Million Dollar Quartet (3 eggs any style, Chef Tomasz' potatoes, choice of meat and choice of pancake, waffle, biscuit, toast or cup of fruit) with bacon and fruit and an unsweetened tea! My boyfriend ordered the Pick Three Omelet (Chef Tomasz' potatoes, choice of the same sides as me and arugula salad) with toast and a coffee. The drinks come up so fast and fresh you can't even blink! The tea might be from Tennessee, but it was so fresh and strong it put Texas' Bill Miller's and Bushes Chicken tea to shame!! Best unsweetened ice tea ever!!! The eggs were perfect (but who eats 3eggs, 1 was more than enough) the bacon came out perfectly cooked all nice and super crispy with no squiggly parts at all! But oddly enough the Star and I mean Star of my dish were the potatoes! They were a mixture of regular potatoes, purple potatoes (and I know how hard those are to find) and sweet potatoes along with the perfect seasoning mixture plus some herbs for freshness all combined into bliss. The potatoes were nice and crispy on the outside and super soft n fluffy on the inside! The pop of sweetness from the sweet potatoes made all the difference. Next, I chose the fruit as my side, since I like a palate cleanser and they really delivered. These were not your normal melon assortment w/apple or grapes, these were the expensive fruits, a whole cup full of sweet, ripe blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries what a treat! None of them were tart, all were ripe and the absolute perfect ending to a meal I didn't want to finish! Bruce enjoyed the build your own omelet bursting with fillings, he too enjoyed the potatoes (except I ate his sweet potatoes but gave him my bacon, I lucked out on that trade) plus appreciated the arugula salad to help with digestion. The wait staff were extremely busy even tho they were literally running their tails off, they refilled drinks and checked in often. Everything was a complete surprise and left us wishing we lived there so it wasn't a 1 time thing. The ONLY drawback were the stools, they were very uncomfortable for me with my back issues and my feet didn't reach the footrest area below our seats, so I had to sit so far forward on the stool to be able to touch it with my tippy toes which made my legs and machine shake for dear life! They do have 2 booths that will fit 4 people in each, but those are harder to get than signing a recording deal!!! Lastly the price, it was Best Deal in Town! So good that we threw out our plan of trying new restaurants and ate brunch again the next day!! I got the same; however, Bruce ordered the Country Fried Steak & Eggs, (sausage gravy 3 sunny side up eggs, Chef Tomasz' potatoes and a flaky buttery biscuit). Another hit!!! I have a pic of day 1, but forgot day 2. Checkout their website and menu, the photos that accompany their menu is the honest to goodness real deal..you get what it shows and the taste is amazing! read more

Is they're movable chairs or are the tables adjustable to move back and forth?
The stools are not movable, but I am a big guy and they were still comfortable.
What the parking situation?
Not a lot of parking, it's very tight, best to park at the plaza across the street and walk over during peak busy times

Typical Nashville parking. We grabbed a spot at one the parking lots a few blocks away...
