The eggs were perfect, over easy, hash browns perfect and the sourdough toast was good. They give you your toast dry with a patty of real butter, I wish they buttered it right out of the toaster. As for the food, I ordered the plain buttermilk pancakes which were just okay. The interior was clean and we were seated right away. The service was quick and the food arrived quickly as well. The coffee was average drip quality. I ordered chicken fried steak and eggs with crispy hash browns. As I said, the food came quickly. The eggs were done, just right for over medium. The hashbrowns were cooked, but not crispy. The entire hash brown was soft potato. Interestingly enough, I could've upgraded to a different kind of hash brown that resembles a tater tot. Not much of an upgrade. The country gravy was satisfactory on the chicken fried steak. The chicken fried steak, however was either deep-fried in a fryer with dirty oil or it was really overcooked. The meat inside was dry and the outer crispy part was dark brown and had a bitter taste to it, like it had been burnt. I would be willing to give it another try at this place. I really want to love this place and give it a great review given its location, small business, etc. Unfortunately, it lands at 3 stars. I have been twice now, and believe this is a fair review. The service the first time was excellent and was good the second. The kids meals are good, with excellent portions and a very good value. If you want to take your kids and just enjoy coffee, this place is a 5 stars. They lose me on the adult entrees though. I know things have gotten more expensive, but $18 for an omelet is outrageous, especially one with american rather than cheddar cheese. The hasbrowns were undercooked, and the coffee is slightly better than average. Tommy's, Apogee, Doofers, The Spot are all local places that are substantially less expensive for them same, if not better breakfast food. While none of them are as well-lit and clean, there are gives and takes. read more

Had breakfast this morning for the first time at this cafe. My friend told me how good it was the last time he was here. Sadly there are small portions for the price and they charge $5 for 3 small slices of avocado! There was only one waitress for the whole place and we waiting a very long time to get more napkins and a refill of water. Wile eating my refied beans, there was a rock that I ended up eating a piece of. The beans obviously weren't cleaned very well. I showed the waitress the pieces of rock and she just told me that it's never happened before. She took the plate away and gave no apology or discount for the food. We won't be back!:( read more

I was REALLY excited to see a breakfast joint open up in this neighborhood, but disappointed that it's just kinda okay (with so much opportunity!). My wife and I came twice, the first time, our meals were mid (maybe a 3/5), but the last time we came, about a month back, we know were served a roast beef sandwich with meat that had gone bad - it smelled fishy and definitely tasted off. The manager was a bit apathetic and proceeded to tell us there was nothing wrong with it (why must we be patronized in this situation?!), but credited us back anyway (thanks!). The other half of the meal (a Greek Omelet) again, was just mid. Overall service has been good and the location is great. Hoping they improve so we can give it another shot! read more

Always love supporting our local businesses, it took a while to come here because I was nervous about the reviews but we had a great time and delicious breakfast! The interior is so cute, old school diner feel but clean and spacious with great lighting. The servers are wonderful and so sweet, we never felt neglected. My husband got the corned beef hash which he enjoyed, and I got the strawberry cream cheese French toast with cheesy scrambled eggs and bacon and hash browns- all delicious! Nice crispy bacon, the cheddar in the scrambled eggs was actually mixed into the eggs. We also had mimosas and they brought us the remainder of our bottles to finish the brut, which was great. Their coffee is also good, and they have the flavored creamers we always look for in diners! We will be back quite frequently to work our way through the menu. Had a friend visit from out of town and wanted to try someplace I haven't been before. It's a humble cafe with a charming diner vibe. Our waitress was cordial and gave great service. The food came out promptly and everything we ordered was delicious. Especially the fries... On the staff is nice and mean well. I was seated quick with the options of a booth or at the counter I chose a booth. Looking at the menu it was not clear I don't swear all of the cart. But on that note 12 dollars for one biscuit cut in half for gravy on it and the gravy was below Denny level . Or the sausage that was clearly pre-cooked generic style. I love that Fairwood now has a new option for a restaurant! The place has a great look and feel with a small town vibe that is inviting. I had the scrambled eggs, bacon and potatoes (not hash browns but more like deep fried potato balls) which were good albeit unusual. Honestly the two pieces of bacon were a little underwhelming and didn't come with toast!?! The service was great and I plan to come back but I'd love to see thicker bacon and toast being included. So glad they are open, and love their food. I hate to be negative, but one issue I have is that portions seem so small. Or that the omelets do not come with toast or muffins (at $16 each). I had the French toast plate yesterday and loved it. they had a special of chicken fried steak, wish I had tried it. next time! My friend had the basic eggs, sausage and toast plate-- and said the sourdough toast was fabulous, but there was only ONE slice, cut in half.. usually places give you two. Now the Food...there is love in every bite, flavor that makes you ponder "what's in there?" My daughter and I visited this adorable new cafe/diner in our neighborhood yesterday following their ribbon cutting grand opening. The restaurant is spacious and hands a few modern art pictures on the walls. Hopefully they will get a few more in time. The food was extremely fresh and delicious, we both enjoyed our sandwiches. I had the Veggie on Marble Rye and a broccoli cheddar soup. My daughter had the hot roasted chicken sandwich with fries. I also had a cocktail, the Salty Dog. I do recommend this new business and I am hopeful that the community will support them as it's been many years since we had a new independent small cafe or diner in Fairwood. Our server was attentive and didn't rush us, which was nice since we wanted to chat and enjoy our lunch, which was so nice! read more

Let's start with you should try out this place. The menu was same yet different than the standard breakfast place which is refreshing. The coffee is great not bitter at all. I wasn't expecting that. The server could have been a little more attentive with refills but she got right to it when asked. The only fail was the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was great but the biscuits looked like thick pancakes. The flavor was okay but the biscuit needs more height and structure. The decor is bright, clean, and new. The tomato bisque had tiny pieces of meat that must have fallen in. This place has potential but the food is just not very good. $17 for a sandwich with very little meat on it. So disappointed. I was so looking forward to trying out this new restaurant in Fairwood since we have very few dining options in this neighborhood. Our server was very nice! I was a little disappointed with the majority of the food but mostly with the prices for what you get - way overpriced. The house salad was $13 and basically just a small side salad without protein, bread or croutons. Also overdressed - but that's an easy fix to request DOS. Bowl of soup (seemed about 8 to max 10 oz) was $8 and an extra $1 if you want crackers or a piece of bread with it. Flavor of soup was a little bland but otherwise decent. No complaints on the pancakes and fries were also good. Roast beef sandwich on baguette was not terrible, but quite bland and very dry, and the sandwich filling to bread ratio was not right....probably at least 75 percent bread - which is sometimes ok if the bread is good and/or grilled, but unfortunately the baguette tasted stale/not fresh and the sauce/aioli was barely even noticeable because there was so little of it. I totally understand that food cost is expensive, but I hope that the owners take a look at the perceived value to customers on some of the menu items.....compared with competitors, a lot of the things are just not worth the price given the very casual nature of the store and the fact that the ingredients and flavors being used are pretty basic. All of that said, the business seemed well managed and so I want to try again in a few months and hope to see at least a few changes given the feedback that their customers have offered. read more

I ordered the chicken fried steak and pancakes, but sadly very little of my order was edible to me. I asked for the gravy on the side, and for the bacon to be crispy. The receipt showed that they heard me, the cooks just ignored it, soggy sloppy bacon and the gravy was slopped on the steak. Both orders came with eggs which I asked to be scrambled with some cheese. The eggs were very runny and did not look edible to me, so I asked for them to be cooked again. They said they would just make me new eggs, these also came out rushed and undercooked (super slimy and gross). The top pancake was mostly cooked, but the bottom one was also undercooked.
