I'm disappointed with every review of this place. I don't know how long it's been since the sign went up, but it feels like it's been more than a year. When I saw the place opened last week, I quickly checked the reviews. This was the worst breakfast, worst value and worst experience I have had in a long while. This place was so bad that I did something I can't recall doing in years and that is lie. When my server asked me how my meal was, I said ok, full well knowing it was the worst meal I can recall, I couldn't even look her in the eyes, because my expression would have given away my disappointment. So here are all the issues with Sunflower Café. 1. Price. I had the Sunflower Plate. That is two eggs, two pieces of meat and potatoes. I think it was $14. Most places give you 2 eggs, 4 pieces of meat, potatoes and toast for that price. So not only did I get less the portion was child size. 2. Portion. The breakfast was served on a plate, but the plate was just slightly larger than a saucer. The eggs were gross, I'm assuming from a carton instead of fresh and the potatoes were about the size of a McDonald's hash brown. I expect more from a restaurant. 3. Quality, The Orange garnish was the best part of the meal. As advised the eggs were grey and not cooked completely, the hash browns were a ¼ cup at best, and nothing tasted fresh. 4. Service was slow, I heard employees basically flipping a coin to see who would serve me. Do employees not have sections? How about when you seat someone you take their drink order and when you bring that, you ask if they are ready to order? In the end, I don't understand how anyone could speak positively about this place. I know we are on an island here, but I assume the only thing keeping The Apogee from crushing them is the Bar atmosphere and the fact that they no longer service breakfast during the week. Ambiance was a little plain but the service was great and the food was really good. I ordered the biscuits and gravy platter with cheesy eggs and it was really good. You could tell the biscuits were home made they were perfect texture with the gravy. The gravy had sausage in it and the cheese eggs were literally how I would make them at home. I believe they took the spot of the Starbucks in the fairwood plaza. Great addition I will go back for sure. read more

The food is okay! The service is okay depending on what server you get and the ambiance is a little too quiet. We ordered the pancake platter, a wagyu burger, and a hot chocolate (they add rainbow sprinkles on top and they melt into your chocolate and make it 100% sweeter which I did not like.) Staff were not very friendly, the ambiance is basic, the food ingredients were not the best. Over all not impressed.

Refreshing to find a spot in this area open for breakfast. Greeted right away and seated. We ordered the double loco moco. Portions were right for the price. Gravy was perfect. We feel this is the best loco moco we've had since visiting Hawaii 4 years ago. We'll definitely come back and try other foods including lunch soon. read more

This place deserves 5 stars! My omelet was stuffed with different kinds of fresh veggies and was so yummy. My husband's french toast was delicious and our kiddos loved their breakfast items from the kids menu (which also happened to be a great deal!) Service was excellent and our server was super nice and very accommodating. We'll definitely be back! read more

My husband and his 3 siblings pick a small business restaurant for breakfast once a month. Sometimes spouses join. My husband's scrambled eggs were under cooked. I had the chicken fried steak. Big mistake. It's one of my favorites. It was a bit chewy. The gravy wasn't the traditional white country gravy. It was brown in color. Tasted a little off. Then I discovered why. It was a mushroom gravy and I just about threw up. I cannot do mushrooms because of their texture. I've had it all my life. I just happened to bite into one. My brother in law had biscuits and gravy. His gravy was the same as mine. And he has the same reaction to mushrooms as I do. To me food really didn't have much flavor to it. And if you are going to use a mushroom gravy. Please note it on your menu. So someone with a mushroom allergy doesn't order something they shouldn't. Lawsuit waiting to happen. Sadly this is a local business I won't be back to. read more

This is exactly what Fairwood needed. I got the Cali Benedict with ham. It was delicious! I was the first person in there this morning so service was pretty quick. Not sure why it isn't busier in there. I don't think Fairwood even has a breakfast place. Gotta go to Maple Valley. The decor is absolutely adorable too! Definitely feels like you're in a diner from the movies back in the 60's, but brand new! read more

I came back to try the farmer's omelet and was underwhelmed by the presentation and portion for the price. The taste was good, but the food was not worth it's value. This little cafe is cute. They definitely need a little more art or color, but I know they haven't been opened long. As for the food, unfortunately it was mediocre at best. I had the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were hard, the gravy was ok, but it was all room temp, couldn't even call it warm. My husband had the farmers omelet and it was fine. Nothing to really complain about but nothing to rave about either. The kicker was the waitress obviously forgot to put in my son's breakfast order, so it came out as my husband and I were taking our last bite. We couldn't understand why this place only had 3.5 stars. The staff is extremely kind and welcoming. The food was delicious, especially the pancakes. Probably some of the best pancakes we've had. Our first time here. Service was excellent. We were a demanding table with several requests for substitutions and coffee refills. Kahealani was sweet about it all and on top of everything. They opened at 7am and we were there about 8:30am on a Saturday. We thought we would have to wait for a table but they were at 35-40% capacity. They had plenty of staff, which was good to see. The prices are on the moderate - high side with plates and omelettes are around $15 - $16. The proportions are on the small side, given typical "American portions." I'm mostly giving this 4 stars because their Kids menu was good and the kids really enjoyed their food - ate the whole plate, which parents know is RARE. The other breakfast food we order was decent - nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either. Very middle of the road, perhaps they will add something a little less basic later on once they're settled. We ordered a variety of breakfast entrees and were pleased with the quality of food! My son loved the sausage gravy from my biscuits and gravy and his breakfast burrito!
