    Bread packs on display

My sister wanted something for breakfast as we were rushing with our day's schedule. We spotted this shop across the street from the car rental we dropped my sister's vehicle at. Coffee walnut croissant was delicious, egg tart (special $1 each max. 6 per customer) had a light and flaky crust and smooth, egg custard filling, the Ube concha was dense with red bean past filling- not my typer, choco bun pack was dry and tasted slightly stale. Service was friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a clean shop with the delicious smell of bread and pastries.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I usually go to the one in Temple where the choco buns tastes more fresh.

Sunmerry has the BOGO Free Drinks promotion now from today, 3/5, to Sunday, 3/8, and again from Thursday, 3/12, to Tuesday, 3/17. You can get Buy One Get One Free drinks, including Boba Milk Tea, Matcha Latte, and Salted Cream Green Tea ($6 each). They have Portuguese Egg Tarts for just $1 each, or Napoleon Egg Tarts for $1.49 each. I got two Matcha Latte drinks and Napoleon egg tarts today. You must get the same drink to receive BOGO, and ice & sugar must be the same as the first drink. I was going to order both Portuguese egg tarts and Napoleon egg tarts, but they sold out the Portuguese ones. The service was a bit slow because one of the cashiers was a trainee, so she was still learning the whole process. She was friendly. However, I found out that she charged me for two drinks. Instead of charging me $6 for BOGO, I was charged $9 for the "buy one, get 2nd drink half off" offer, plus egg tart charges, of course. But it was not the BOGO promotion. I showed the receipt to the other cashier because the trainee was away, and she was very polite. She apologized to me for her coworker's mistake and gave me a refund for the overcharge. The Matcha Latte was tasty, but it was a bit too sweet; I did not pick the ice and sugar options, or maybe she forgot to ask me. The Napoleon egg tarts were very crispy with multi-layered buttery pastry and filled with a smooth custard in the middle. I wish it had more custard inside and fewer multi-layered crust. They have a lot of beautiful cakes, and I tried many of them, and they taste good.

I happened to be in town to share good deals from Sunmerry Bakery with a friend. We all needed extra sweetness to make our day feel better somehow. We got BOGO tea with salted cream, it tastes good. And one egg tart at $1 each. Service is good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is more of bakery than a cafe, but they do have couple tables inside in a hot day like this.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I usually preferred Sunmerry's cakes and bread over JJ bakery and 85 degrees at one point. However, the cake quality has gone pretty uneven. Taiwanese style pastries still look pretty decent and with wide varieties. I think the focus is to do what you do best, and concentrate on just a few specialties cakes or breads. Just my humble opinion.

Sunmerry Bakery is a pretty well known bakery from Taiwan. I recently stopped in the Rowland Heights location after seeing a sign for $1 egg tarts. What a deal!

Large pastries. Better than 85 degree bakery.

Better than 85 degree bakery. Pastries are large portion sizes for the same price. Really good bakery

I love their bread here! I also tried the Portuguese egg tart, but it was just average. I do appreciate that all the breads are individually wrapped, it makes everything feel clean and well organized. The staff were super friendly and even introduced some of their new items.

Amazingly good snacky snacks for $1.00 each. They are made fresh and unbelievably so delicious!!! Limit 6 per person. Im not sure how long the promo runs.

Sunmerry has the best egg tarts. They have good customer service and varieties of boba drinks.

I had a good experience in the good they baked. I was served with some hot out of the baking machine. I recommend trying h Napoleon Egg tart. The service is fast and easy to get in and out of. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is clean and roomy for a big crowd.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Try it you won't be disappointed.

    Portuguese egg tarts
    Raymond L.

Their Portuguese egg tart is very good, but I had them when they were cold, so not so good. When hot, the crust is super thin and crunchy, so it is extra delicious. I have not tried their other bake goods and drinks, so can't comment on them. Ray out!

With all the dishes, I loved their pumpkin soup as well, but it was what we had last time without photo. For drinks, I definitely enjoy their hojicha latte, and of course I ordered it again. I enjoyed the thoughtfulness of each dishes, as well as the trusting feeling of how the owner makes sure to get their ingredients from local farms with reliable source. I appreciate all the patience from my waiters. They do make sure I understand my order and receive what I order. Not everything is perfect though. For some reason, I never had good experience with the host. They always told me to sit outside and wait while there's many empty tables. This time the guy obvious took his sweet time and may had forgot I had come in to get table until all my parties went inside to wait right in front of him. Me with a big 9-month pregnant belly stood there waiting for him to take his sweet time to get us to one of many empty tables. That doesn't bother me much. I still believe in this nice spot for brunch and may get dinner next time.

I am so glad we chose Hide Out Cafe in Rowland Heights to have our celebration. The food is delicious, the staff is so friendly, and the cafe is so cozy and welcoming. My brother was sponsoring our meal since he couldn't make it, so of course we had to go all out and order two drinks and two main dishes. (Thank you, big brother)! I got the Boba Bear Set $8.50, which comes with a drink and two house-made cookies, and my mom got their Tiramisu Latte $7.00, which is heavy on the coffee liquor, to be honest, but we had fun with it. The drinks are crafted beautifully, and with the open cafe concept, you can see they pay attention to the small details of their crafted drink menu. The house-made cookies that were a part of my Boba Bear Set are not to be forgotten. The cookies are buttery, decadent, and delicious; they are the perfect tea cookies to pair with! I can't wait to go back and try more of their fun drinks and maybe bring a study book the next time. For our main dishes, we shared the Chimi Wagyu & Frites $35.00, and the Fresh Avocado Toast $19.00. We both love eggs so of course we had to get something with eggs in our dish. My mom loved her avocado toast, and they were very generous with the avocado as well on there. The salad is a definite hit with us and included a great dressing on the side. The eggs were cooked perfectly on top of our toast and steak. The frites with my steak were crispy and seasoned well. I also loved the chimi sauce with my steak as well. The portion was huge so we were able to take some back home to enjoy another day. Overall, my mom and I had a great experience and would absolutely come back for another sip of their lattes and try another fun drink on their menu. We left with happy smiles and full stomachs, and can't wait to come back soon.

There is plenty of parking in the plaza. This is a fairly casual brunch. They assign you a table, give you menus, but you'll have to order and pay at the front. Not much service after you order and they drop off your food. My boyfriend has their Classic Breakfast ($18.20) and I had their Kimchi Butter Fried Chicken Benedict ($19.20). The food took a while to come out, and they came out pretty spread apart. I noticed with the other tables how one person would be halfway through by the time the other person's food came. My boyfriend's food came out before mines and I told him to eat first but he wanted to wait for me. Both of the meal came with a side salad and potatoes. I was most look forward to the salad but I was disappointed with how overly dressed and sour it was. Very imbalanced. I've been to other Popping Yolk cafes so I know it isn't meant to be this sour. Their plating also makes all the dressing leak onto the rest of the meal. Depending on what you get it can make it soggy and/or change the intended flavor profile. My boyfriend really likes their potatoes here. It's nice and crispy. It can make you full. They overly salted my potatoes so I didn't want much of it either. As for my kimchi butter fried chicken benedict... Mhmm... as a new item I HOPE they are still working through it. They put a kimchi layer directly onto the English muffin making it soggy immediately... Even on the first bite it was already soggy. By the time I was onto the second half, I just removed the muffin because it was inedible. The tasty was good. I liked the flavor combination but the execution was the big issue. The sauce and everything just made the fried chicken soft and soggy too. I want crispiness when I hear fried chicken. Oh yeah! My boyfriend also got a Pepsi ($3.25). On their menu it says the sodas are refillable. The whole time we were there I didn't see staff checking on anyone's refillable drinks. If you're expecting the refill, you might be disappointed. The experience is very casual and lackluster but the pricing is definitely on the high side. I'm not a fan.

Something that affected my stay was the pool situation. I was shocked when I discovered how small the pool area is for such a nice big hotel overall. There wasn't enough lounge chairs or anywhere to sit in general. Everyone was playing their own music loud, some louder than others, a bunch of kids splashing everywhere and I was surprised by this since I was thinking this would be a calm, peaceful resort setting. I was honestly surprised that there was no security at the time to enforce anything. Overall I tried to make the best of the circumstances but I will never return to this pool unfortunately.
