Sausage rolls were fine - soft and salty. Among donuts, the glazed were the best. I could be happy with just those. The texture and flavor balance was the most appealing. The others just made for an average experience... I found the filled ones to be overpowered with filling and wasn't a fan of how the chocolate icing tasted. By no means am I a huge lover of donuts. What I do love and appreciate from time to time is a really great cake donut. In today's world donut places are coming up with all these different flavors and I just crave a good blueberry cake donut. My goodness did Sunny deliver! I went towards the end of the day order a blueberry cake donut, a regular cake, a glazed cake and a chocolate old fashion. I'm ashamed to say I ate them all that day. The were fresh, moist and most important didn't have that weird residue behind your teeth. I've had May full for at least 6 months but glad I now know where to go! Thanks Siri! My husband and I carpool to work from Allen to Plano every morning and while we do our best to be healthy, there may have been one to many times where we stopped at Sunny Donuts for a quick breakfast. It is your usual mom and pop donut shop with the usual donuts, but what makes us excited to come here are the kolaches and the mini cinnamon rolls. The large spicy kolache is our favorite in the area so far; it comes with a large sausage with cheese, the bread is perfect, and the spice level is just right. The mini cinnamon rolls are awesome, especially since they are served warm. They are good for a small sweet treat, or you can be like me and just eat a bunch of them (we usually get a dozen for $2!). The store is pretty small with maybe just one table (we usually find ourselves just eating in the car). The staff here are always so nice and friendly to use everytime we visit. Overall, yes this is a great spot for kolaches, mini cinnamon rolls, and more! Enjoy. read more

Best Kolaches I've had thus far. I'm not really a donut gal, but these are by far the best donuts in Plano. They have a great texture and a moist finish. Not only is the food great, but the customer service is undoubtedly great. As soon as I stepped into the shop, the cashier greeted me and made great eye contact. Stopped by for a little pick me up with my friend, and lemme tell you, Sunny Donuts has a new customer for life. The sweet woman working the shop was really helpful when we were trying to make our decision, and she even threw in a little extra with or order so we could try out her other stuff. Low key want to adopt her as my mother. My friend and I each ended up getting the large kolache and plain glazed donut. The kolache was warm, buttery, and fluffy, and the sausage had cheese in it which just gave it a rich flavor. I've yet to bite into the true donut, as I'm saving it for later, but the donut holes and mini cinnamon rolls that she gave us to try were delicious. The price is just a little above average. My experience was when I walked in, there were two people arguing, yelling and screaming in the back as if they were having a marital spat. When I placed my order the person behind the counter gave me an attitude like I was an inconvenience to him. At that moment he began to yell at the person in the back in a Asian language that I don't understand demanding her to take my order. I could tell she was very upset. She put both of her hands up in the air and walked away. This puts me back with the guy that was trying to blow me off, he ended up filling my order and setting it down on the counter very aggressively only for the bags to fall sideways between the counter and the register he looked at me, then he looked down at the donuts looked back at me and turned around and walked away. I noticed the store was extremely dirty dried donut sugar on all the glass countertops , the microwave that was used to warm up my order you could see where several things have exploded inside of it and no one cared enough to clean it up. The cash register had dried food that you can tell has been present for a while. I left my donuts on the counter and told him no thanks went outside sat in my car and did a hold on my bank card so that I would not be billed for eight dollars I was about to be charged. Yelp will not allow me to upload a video but I have a file of about three minutes of this couple yelling and screaming at each other. I'm glad this donut store is very out-of-the-way for me I would hate to have to visit this place again. I'm very surprised at other reviews that are completely the opposite of what I experienced. The woman at the counter asked where I was from, and after I told her, stuffed my box with free donut holes and another donut "for the drive home." Let me start by saying, these people seem really nice. 3 of the customers I talked to say this is an "institution" in the area, and has been here 20 years. Unfortunately, like so many restaurants and often places, people's perception of a place is skewed by their familiarity. Let me start by saying, I am not a big donut person..... that being said, I've eaten more donuts than most people on the planet (obsessive and law enforcement/security excluded) I purposefully came here early in the morning to beat the crowd, and also taste the donut fresh and warm out of the oven, so I could compare to Maxes donuts. (Tried them a few weeks ago, and not a morning goes by where I dont have to fight the urge to stop there on my way to work..... even this morning I almost drove 10 miles each way, rather than .25 miles to this place)....but I digress. The first thing I noticed in the case were the blueberry muffins. They look amazing. Then I see the Kalachis and of course a decent size donut selection. The person in front of me ordered one of the sausage type things.....and they got popped in the micro. Hmmmmmm, 6:30 AM, and they need to be heated? Maybe this regular liked his steaming hot. I order a chocolate glazed donut (for a fair comparison to Maxes), and a large sausage roll (kalachi?) In goes the Kalachi to the micro. The very sweet lady behind the counter threw in a few donut holes with my glazed....bonus. She hands me the microwaved sausage roll and the donut. Here I go, about to try the donut which will "blow away Max's donuts" according to several reviewers on Max's Yelp page. I open the bag to take a bite of the warm, oooie gooie flaky Nirvana. Smell, wait where is that beautiful aroma??? Touch....hmm it's cold??? Bite, well, it's not Dunkin Donuts, but it's not far off. It's 6:30AM, and it's cold, not stale, but not seemingly right out of the oven, and the flaky layers and amazing pop of a Max's are no where to be found. I truly feel betrayed by all the Yelp reviewers who compared Max's to Sunny's. They are the same ones that go to Salt Grass and say how much better it is than Bob's, or Knife. Really people???? I'm not saying that these donuts are bad, but they are what they are... average donuts made by very nice people. I'm totally OK with romanticizing something that brings you back to your childhood, or glory days, but there is no reason to put down a business which provides an incredibly better product. I apologize for this rant, perhaps it's the disappointment of the expectation not being met, but let's call this place what it is..... a family owned donut shop, that's been a part of the community for years, and has some very friendly people working there..... But take away the romance, and I'm left with an average donut, served cold, and a dausage roll, which seems overcooked, a little shriveled and dry. And that beautiful blueberry muffin, well, you got it....average --definitely on the dry side Food 2 stars.... people 6 stars. But this is Yelp, not "Friends", so I have to go with the food ranking... 2 stars. Again, I apologize for bringing another establishment into it, but in Max's reviews, there were a lot of haters that kept raving about this place.... arguably more people wrote about how good this place was, than actually have reviewed it......hmmmmm Coincidentally, this place is about the same price as Max's, but the sausage rolls are 50% more. If you want something close, go to the Salt Grass level donut shop. If you want an amazing experience for your taste buds....go to Max's. read more

Here's the deal. Most of the donuts here are average family run donuts (which means good), but the old fashioned donuts are crazy good.
